- Today I am have travelled to Eastbourne to fish with me friend Mark on his private boat from Sovereignty Marina. We fish several deep sea offshore wrecks and have a wonderful day on the water catching fish.
Mark has his own UA-cam channel where he shares educational videos about how he fishes his local area. Here is the link to his channel - @ManicFishing
Don't forget to check out our sister channel@thefishlockerworkshop for helpful reviews and videos. Including how to make the log stove used in this video.

Enjoyed that John and Mark.
Well done!!
Cheers Glen. 😊👍🏻
That was a good one. She looked like she was swaying pretty good out there but you guys had fun anyway. Thanks for a great session 🔱
Aye mate it was a bit sloppy by the end of the day.
Welcome to the Sussex coast. I run a boat out of Newhaven and the sea state you experienced is very common there. With regards to breaking off your line when snagged, I keep 6" lengths of broom handles dotted around the boat, just a few wraps around the line and it gives you a safe and easy way of pulling to break off without cutting into your hands.
Good luck with your tour of the UK.
I always have timber in me tackle box for same reason, it really does work😮
Yeah that’s a safe way of doing it. Even better if you slide some hose pipe over it. 😉👍🏻
Such a personable chap Mr locker 😂🏴can’t fail to succeed 🎉awesome
Just sharing what I know and love doing Richard. 😊🎣
That’s looked a tad rough. Glad you found them in the end
It was a bit sloppy but it’s all part of the fun.
Hi John, if your ever in the south you should definitely try and get a line out with one of the best Mark Williams sea angling.. love watching him and he is a great angler
I don’t know of anyone called Mark Wilson. Also, I can’t find his channel.
@@TheFishLocker sorry john my bad.. Mark williams and his channel is Mark Williams sea angling
Well John I had a little giggle on your first comment, I thought you were going to say fishing rods 😀😀
What comment? 🤣
@@TheFishLocker The one when you left the house and you were sure you forgot something
hello John wonderful to see that you are out of port again but can see that it is not always great on your side in terms of fishing catches in the end still caught a few nice pollacks on our side in the Netherlandsit is not really great in terms of fishing there are days when there is a nice filling of the wrecks come, but most of them are not very big for when you can get thight lines again
Sadly that is the fishing all over. It is becuase of commercial fishermen putting nets on the wrecks.
@@TheFishLocker yes putting nets around wrecks should actually be banend ,but as long as money is involved fighting against something that is difficult to get rid of isa pity but reality
Brilliant video and a beautiful boat mark 👍🎣
It’s a fine boat isn’t it.
Most enjoyable 😊
No seasickness watching it? 😉
@@TheFishLocker it’s all in the mind that sea sickness - a lot more comfortable from the sofa mind.
Very informative I just felt a bit bad that you guys didn't do too well but atleast it wasn't a blank and you got a couple nice Pollack. Nice boat I'd love one like that.
That’s how it goes mate. Not every day is a brilliant fishing day. That’s how it goes.
Atleast you didn't blank
If you ever get over to the IOM on your grand tour give me a shout and I'll get you out for a run.
Thank you for the offer.
Another great video shame about the conditions! awesome to see you and mark fishing together! I know mark very well and he is a very talented angler. One of the best videos I’ve seen so far. Showing how real fishing at sea can be, not always easy going
Thanks Ed. I hope the video shows fishing in an honest light. The good and the bad, the rough and the smooth. 😉👍🏻
Great video well done
Thanks mate.
A great boat, a real shame about all that lost tackle, it makes you wonder if it was worth going out considering the cost of all that lost tackle. Eastbourne is somewhere that I knew well back in the 1950s but my hasn't it altered? none of that marina or buildings were there then. Our farm was on the Pevensey levels and we kept the boat at Pevensey bay, it was just an open beach then. I haven't been back down there for over 60 years. It's nice to see you somewhere else but the fishing wasn't as good as in Cornwall and the weather wasn't as good either!
Some days you don’t lose anything and catch more fish. It is what it is. 😊🤷🏻♂️
@@TheFishLocker Fair enough.
great vid,can i ask about your sunglasses are the polarised expensive ones, i like the look of them,thanks,14:16 thought engine was overheating🤣🤣
They are made by a company called Calcutta. I bought them in Florida.
@@TheFishLocker cheers john
Great video John and Mark! Shame about the conditions, looking forward to the next one 🎣
You can’t do much about the weather mate. 🤷🏻♂️🌊
Eastbourne is a nice place
Yes it is.
You doing Coastal/underwater foraging is great. Fishing, not so much!
I disagree.
At 10:46 Manic is sitting in the most dangerous position :( Never sit on the edge of the boat as a sudden lurch will have your feet off of the ground and you going over the side backwards !
Mark and I are both experienced with boats and boating. We were both wearing PFD’s and it was a clear day. Don’t be that guy Steve.
I’d love to see you on a fishing trip around west wales, some great fishing around Pembrokeshire and cardigan bay, don’t forget your passport!
Haha. Ill look into it. 😉👍🏻
Good one John, I shall really look forward to the different harbours. Greetings from Cyprus. 🐟🐟🐟🐟
We shall see where the year takes us. 😊👍🏻🎣
I can see you up grading the camper 😂
Bigger vw t4
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕🦄😁🤞✌️
I like to say your videos is very useful .
Thank you so much for all your tricks,
fishing Captain 💯❤🍀👍💪🔥
It is my pleasure. 👍🏻
My partner Ben and I live in Eastbourne harbour. Would be great to meet you one day! We really enjoy your videos and have learnt a lot! (Especially me 😂 Ben's been a sea fisherman for a few years so knows so much more.) 😄
Well I will be coming back at some point so you never know. 😊👍🏻🎣
Great video John! Shame about the conditions but good to see yourself and Mark coping with the rougher sea conditions further offshore. Your videos have inspired me to finally swap my old boat on the Avon/Severn for a Quicksilver down on the Solent, and we relocate down to Southampton next month - and start doing some real fishing again. A change of lifestyle partly thanks to the inspiration of the Fish Locker 'team' and all your great videos and story. Keep up the great work!
That is fantastic to hear Philip. I’m really glad to hear that our videos have helped. Please let us know how you get on. 👍🏻🎣
Actuellement mes deux meilleurs chaîne de pêche réuni ensemble 😁🙏🐟🐟🐟 merci a vous 🤘
Win win.
Looking forward to seeing the new adventures.15 minute early or more is always better than 5 to late. Losing gear is Pollux pun intended. Glad y got on the fish. My 11 year old would be love to get out and fish next time we are in the Uk it’s a something we will do. He is right into fishing he freaked his older brother and sister out by eating the eyes of a dorado we bought not to mention his mum. Me and him had been watching survival stuff and saw people do it. The look on their faces was priceless.
Thanks for this adventure.
Haha. He sounds like a character. 🤣
Just another typical day, chasing fish trying to source them out and sometimes just the odds are against you with conditions. I've a pike trip planned this weekend in flooded rivers and loughs but I'm still going because it's better than not fishing at all 😂😂 Great video that we can all relate to 👏👍
Our videos are honest mate. The good days and the hard ones. It’s what fishing is really like. 😊👍🏻🎣
Thanks to you both for sharing your session.👍👍
Shame there wasn't more fish for you both.🎣🎣🎣🥺
But nice to see the boat angling community working with each other.😃
I look forward to seeing future videos.🫣
Thanks John and Mark.👍👍
Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
That’s what fishings like mate. I hope the videos show that. The good and the bad, the rough with the smooth. 😉🎣
Hey John. Sometimes in your vids i can see a rock mark we fish when on holiday in Cornwall for fresh Mackerel & Sea Bass & it always makes me smile & want to be there instantly (even if the seals spoil the swim & I end up photographing them instead of fishing). Your vids are wicked mate. I watch bugger all tv these days & most films are gash. Your channel just keeps on giving. All the best to you & fam.
I haven’t watched mainstream TV in years mate. It’s rubbish.
The boat rocking reminds me of fishing for walleye on Lake Erie or parts of Lake of the Woods but in those cases it was unpleasantly windy....thanks for the video!
My pleasure Peter. 😊🎣
Great video as always look forward to seeing the next one 😊
Cheers bud.
Awesome video again John, nice looking boat, shame big fish didn't come out 2 play ,i fished Eastbourne pier a few times in my teens, i could not believe how Eastbourne has changed when i was there about 4 years ago. Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick
The fishing all along the south coast is not a shadow of what it once was.
Ahh gutted! My boat is here and I didn’t get to see you! I was here on the same day I believe.
Small world mate. 🤷🏻♂️
Great to hear your doing other boats and various charters, looking forward to seeing them.
Thanks Steven 😊👍🏻
My dad has a light collapsible "cabin" mounted on his boat (which is a bit smaller than yours), made of thick plastic foil that goes over a light aluminum frame, somewhat like a small greenhouse. Doesn't look great but it's cheap, light, easy to install (by yourself with basic tools), takes very little space folded down and minimal effort to operate (you can fold it up or down in a couple of minutes). Down here it also doesn't require a permit as it's not considered a permanent modification, they allow even home made contraptions of this sort as long as they don't restrict visibility. Might be an option to improve quality of life on your boat in harsh weather, at least while sailing to and from more distant fishing spots.
My boat serves the purpose it is used for. 👍🏻🦞🎣
Hi John,
Your friend’s boat is a lovely boat indeed, you seem to handle it well out at sea without your fleece mate, could hear the wind howling in the mic and looked a good swell with a bit of rocking. You both had some good catches and we all loose a rig or two which can be quite frustrating but that’s fishing and it happens but at least it never ever spoils a good day out fishing especially with a friend. Great video mate🤝🇬🇧🦞 Thank you
Thanks Glynn. Aye I hope the video shows a days fishing in an honest way. Losses and all. 👍🏻🎣
That was different, and we have more on the way, great content to look forward to, this is great stuff John, thanks for sharing with us all, look forward to all these, all the best
My pleasure mate.
Great Video. Nice to see you down my way John. looking forward to seeing more likely collabs. Hopefully without so much tackle loss.
Haha. You win some you lose some.
have you ever fished at an identified wreck? If so, which was your favourite?
Haha. Good one. 🤣
@@TheFishLocker I was serious mate! I feel stupid now.
Brought back memories of Eastbourne as I lived before moving to Australia. The Sovereign Marina didn't exist in the 80's when I left, the area used to be called White Horses where it shallowed out after Langley Point. There was a wreck called the Barnhill that on a low tide you could nearly walk out to.
I could see that wreck as we were steaming in I believe.
Great video thanks John &Mark. John would you now consider getting a boat with a wheelhouse? Cheers mate. Graham🐟🐟🐟
No mate.
@@TheFishLocker 😂😂
Still a good day out, some of them were really nice in my scale of fish, landing any size of fish keeps the mind focused you just never know what the next tug is going to have in store, looked a bit lumpy at times , but stellar boat and a great looking day out all the same .
We had some difficulties but we had a great day regardless. 😊👍🏻🎣
Well done John on your Sussex boat trip.🎣🎣👍🏻
Thanks mate.
Had a really stressful crappy week so far and got home and needed some thing to watch to help me unwind did a catch up on your last couple videos. Was great to watch loved every single one if them. Look forward to your next video mate. All the best tight lines 🎣🎣🎣
Cheers bud and glad we could share a little bit of positivity with you mate. 👍🏻🎣
i was planning to move to Eastbourne as i used to live nearby in Epsom,Surrey...finally i ended up in St Ives.🙂
I feel you made a good choice. 😉
Great trip...it's kind Mark took ya out on the fish. He has a beautiful boat as well. Thanks guys 👍
Yes he does. 😊👍🏻🎣
Brilliant idea to see how other boats function and what it’s like to fish in other areas. I need an outside helm station on my boat, that was a good set up. Great video.
Makes working on deck so much easier doesn’t it.
Enjoyed that- looking forward to more - hope you have some contacts in Pembrokeshire!
I do know a few guys that way.
What's your thought on using the crazy eel on a flying collar rig or a portland rig and fishing it the usual way? Does it work like that? Cheers.
There is too much weight in them. The flying collar rig wants a lightweight lure
Looking forward to the next adventure, great show 👍
Thank you.
Nice day out in a different location. Just goes to show how different areas fish completely different and the size of the fish varies. Still a good video John
That is what I wanted these videos to show. 👍🏻
Be great to see different locations, types of fish etc, exciting stuff!
I am looking forward to making them.
Always nice to see someone else turn a wreck into a Christmas tree with all the shiny trinkets dangling on it! Top vid as ever
Haha. Today was not my day mate. I might as well have turned by tackle box upside down and emptied it over the side. 🤣
Great job in testing conditions lads 👏🏻
It is what it is mate. You can only do your best and this time of year can be very hard work. See you soon bud. 👍🏻🎣
As others have said John another cracking video. Love your reasoning about using green braid as you can identify it as a seaweed yet your using a Bright Pink Lure lol.
Brilliant love watching the channel..
Everyone loves a bit of pink mate.
Love the idea of you fishing in different areas on other you tubers boats, should be some great viewing fishing adventures coming up over this year.
Lovely set-up Mark has there. Conditions looked tough out there but rewarded with a few nice Pollock. Till the next trip John, best of luck. Arthur.
Hopefully it helps to show a few different methods and tactics as well as what the fishing is like in some different areas.
Nice one John 👍
Cracking looking boat, I can't figure it out, leeward?
Leeward what?
I'm laughing when you talked about the locks. I spent a week on one of those canal longboats in the mid of UK. I clearly remember ALL those LOCKs. Four women from age's 50+ to 80. I heard they talked about us upstream. It was fun. No fishing but did eat some in those taverns along the canal. Beautiful country you live in.
Good fun but a slower pace.
@@TheFishLocker Yes it was. The 80-year-old insisted on steering the barge while we opened and closed those numerous locks. Picture it. LOL.
3.30 in and you just know this and the rest are going to be great. Cheers John ❤
😬👍🏻
Is that going to be your new boat John. I think your family might appreciate the comfort.
Haha. No sir. I like my boat.
A nice change of scenery, but a tough fishing day. Thank you John
Aye mate. But we had a few fish by the end. 😊👍🏻
Ah we get to see the Folks and the Fish of further afield I affirmatively focus my feelings on this format and your films to come😁🤷 top work as always pal, can't wait to see where you get to.ooh maybe create a Top Gear style leader board based on Catch,Conditions,Cost to charter, skippers experience..etc for us that can't get around as much?😮
Haha. Who’s going to be the Stig? 🤣🎣
YOU! Everytime mate we watch you,we know your skills and see your catches.you are the constant.you are the stig.
Or create one..an impartial angler covered in oil skins that can be fair and impartial....Ladies and gentlemen "The Rig" just don't leave me behind when your banking them bucks man
Nice one! I’m well looking forward to monthly adventures out in different areas great idea.
If the weather allows. It might be none one month and 2 the next. 😉👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker that’s it hard to plan boat trips more than 24hrs, haven’t my boat out for 3months now weather In Northern Ireland hasn’t be good to us. Summer can’t come quick enough. Keep doing what you do it’s great watching Thankyou
Two nice blokes doing what they love best! Love that boat too, I have a feeling you will get one like that john!
Haha. No I wont mate. I would be working pots in a nice boat like that. 🤣🤣
This channel never disappoints. Y’all need to watch begin to end. You will learn so much and see what family goals are lol. But we love to watch. The hubby my boys and me. It gives us an opportunity we won’t have. Enjoy!!❤❤❤❤❤
I am so happy to hear you are all enjoying our videos. Have a wonderful day and enjoy your weekend. 👍🏻😊

I am very new to sea fishing mate and I love your videos so much! They really enspire me and motivate me to get out....still ain't caught nothing tho 😅 please keep doing what ya doin
I am glad that you find the videos inspiring and good luck when you get out fishing. 😊👍🏻🎣
Nice trip, thanks for taking us along 👍, you needed some custard to go with all that roly-poly !! 😂
Oow. Now I want to eat jam roly poly and custard.
I only use crasy sand eel 220 to fish pollack on wreck! Or Black minnow 200 but home made because thé are too expenssive! I tried others but not good as fiiish lures. 🇨🇵
Those crazy eels are deadly for Pollack aren't they. 😊👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker absolutly😆
Great footage. Great Idea, fishing around the wider coastline. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure Andy.
Thank you Mark 💯😉🍀👍💪

Thanks John and Mark, that was a fun outing I enjoyed it tremendously, Thanks for taking us along.
It is my pleasure Jim.
Nice one John. Nice to try different areas to fish. Glad you had a great day up here in sussex 😊
Thanks Dave. 😊🎣
If you get a chance try r jayol in pagiton most popular charter boat in pagiton
I shall look him up. 😊👍🏻
John, what an excellent idea to take trips with other fishermen and their boats. I can't wait to see many of those videos. So great that you have made so many friends through you tube. I have been fishing on the open water and I'm 59!! One day hopefully before my name is called!! Keep up the good work and say "hello" to wee James.
Thank you very much Terry. I hope the series of videos is interesting for folks. 😊👍🏻
Great idea
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕🦄😁🤞✌️
Hard day fishing. That's how is goes sometimes. Thanks for the video.
Absolutely right mate.
Most of the our British waters are over fished and poor for the angler, Cornwall and far north ie Shetland isles etc are the only places worth sea fishing now.
That is the situation the commercial fishermen have left us in. 🤷🏻♂️
I agree with the first part, but not quite the second. I agree, and have said numerous times to John, and others, that the SW and Northern Scotland have the best of it, there’s still great sport to be had along the Bristol channel in winter for cod, Hampshire and Dorset for sharking, and in Eastbourne we get a great run of bass, codling and bream on the rocks from spring to late autumn.
great stuff John
😉🎣
Great video John. I think I would need motion sickness tablets In that swell. I'm still trying to sort my Facebook out. If you didn't get the pictures you asked for. James stringer does drone videos from Yorkshire to Scotland. You might like the Amble by the sea video. I'm not trying to promote someone else on your channel, hope you dont think I'm taking the p*ss.
I don't know the lad, but if he does good work then good luck to him.
Welcome to East Sussex John, Glad to see you found a few fish in the end. Do you keep any of the Pollack or return them ? I thought they were good eating fish, Look forward to some more of your adventures fishing different ports around the coast.
Excellent channel, thanks for taking the time and effort to make these videos.
Paul
I was down there in a hotel so had nowhere to store them. So let them all go. 😊👍🏻
Your water is so beautiful...teal....mine is green/brown...not so beautiful. I live in Virginia. But I am from the jersey shore...still green/brown...again not so beautiful. Why are the ocean waters so different?
The land that surrounds them. Here it is chalky which is why the water is cloudy green. My area is granite, so the water is clean. If your land is clay your water will be brown.
Top job John nice to see you venturing out to other areas keep em coming crack on 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
The fishing is so varied back at home it’s hard to pull yourself away.
I've yet to watch the video, and I know that I'll learn from it.
Balance has a key,
Unlocked, truth remains....
Fishlocker , you will see,
Shares logic , hope and gains. ..
Thank you for that Darrell. 😊🎣
Another silly question……but I’m wondering “does it cost money to go thru the canal?” Boy am I curious. Best wishes from landlocked, Saskatchewan, Canada 🇨🇦
It depends on the area. Most it comes in with your marina fees.
Always enjoy your solo videos. But a great idea to show different places and boats. I fish from Ramsgate as it's one of the nearest place to home but want try other places and hope to get idea's from you. Can't bet fishing from Cornwall though
Yes Ken that is what I thought. It also shows different styles and tactics. Different fishing in different areas and as you say other types of boats. 👍🏻
Another cracking video John 👍…..seen surfers on smaller waves 😂I would’ve been curled up in a ball in the corner of the boat .. be sick as a dog 🤮🤮
The conditions were worse than the camera portrays. 🤣🌊🤢
There is a fish-and-chip shop in Marske (near Redcar) called Locker's: any relation?
It’s not mine if that’s what you’re asking. 🤣
@@TheFishLocker I thought it might be run by one of your relatives - I know you are too busy elsewhere to be running a fish and chip shop!
I can properly recommend fishing at Kincasslagh, Co Donegal. Chartered by Paul. Amazing catches, ling, cod, mackerel and right beside Arranmore Island, I have Paul's number if you fancy it
Wonderful.
Nice idea to go out of a few different harbours John, Mark’s boat looked very nice , and at least there was some sport to be had out there bud, tho it didn’t come easy (hardly ever does!😂) your efforts are appreciated mate 👍🏼
Some days you really have to work hard for every fish. This was one of them. 😉👍🏻
john, i would love to see you catching monster coalfish off the coast of norway, actually, both you and slippy nathan, that would be great. thanks for the midweek upload btw 👍🏻
I’ll have a chat with him about doing a trip.
Have you ever come to the east coast in the USA to go blue claw crabbing? Ide like to hear your take on it. Ive been crabbing since I could walk...but I will always welcome a fresh approach.
Sadly we have not yet, though we do plan to.
Thumbs up from somewhere close to Fort Knox, Kentucky U.S.A.
Thank you Michael. 🎣👍🏻
You smashed those pollock mate I swear by the pink lures for pollock and one of those multi colour brade guys every 10 meters it does help but you still loose your favourite lures 😂great video you mates boat was beautiful nicely set up
They do like a pink lure don’t they. 😉👍🏻
Love the video! I know how exactly how rough that water is! The camera never showers how rough it is.
No it doesn’t. 🌊
It's not often we don't see your mackerel flapper rig producing some bigun's John. At least you caught on the pink panther lure 👾 to put a smile on your face 😊
Thanks as always
Jason
Every day is different mate. The flappers just produced lots of pouting.
How many lures did you guys lose, seemed a few..??
Yes it was. 🤣
Dynamic conditions...good camera angle on boat...great advice as ever....ever think of scaling down to about 6 lb mono and targeting the mullet that are sure to be cruising such harbours in warmer months....Mullet are a great fish.....
Watch the mullet videos. 👍🏻
There is a metal contraption that you can attach to your line and it will fall all the way down to your lure and it helps un snag your lure, I'm thinking you may be the perfect candidate for such a device!!
That won’t work Stephen you are thinking of something that works in 10ft of water when there is no tide.
I was wondering, what type of a life jacket do I need, and what would I pay for a decent one? Thanks for another great vid. I do envy you both that lovely boat you have there. Thank you both.
You are so right about the camera making the sea appear calmer than it is.
What about weedless versions of lure to try and avoid getting stuck in the wreckage? Do you think they lose some action compared to hook prominent ones?
For this type of fishing I have just never really taken to weedless hooks. And at the end of the day, what you have confidence in makes a big difference.
