Another nice video. A few questions for you: How many wrecks are there in Cornwall? What is the oldest wreck? How many from WWII? Thanks for doing what you do.
I won't link it but there's a wikipedia page on wrecks of cornwall, naming as many as possible, tho some are unidentified. U-47 and U-55 were two very prolific U-boats in WW1 and many WW2 wrecks in cornwall were from mines or air bombardments. The earliest known wreck in Cornwall was reported in 1284 when 2 lives were lost at Kelynack, near St.Just. The first named wreck was a Spanish cargo ship known as the La Maudeleyne which stranded in (supposedly) in Mounts Bay and has become a scheduled ancient monument.

If you are serious about getting a boat, the best thing I can advise is make friends with someone with a boat and get him to be honest about the costs involved.
@@conaolaparaic1983 I've owned boats for years. It's not hard but it's probably cheaper to go out on charters, unless you fish a lot, or close to home
Funny story about the guys that have been fishing (or spinning the yarn) for years. I live pretty much the furthest from the coast you can in England, do quite a bit of coarse fishing though! Maybe once a year I nip to the Yorkshire coast and have a day charter fishing on a small break. Everything I know about offshore fishing comes from you, Graham from TAF and bits and bobs from other channels. So last year I booked a 6 hour charter and set off. On the boat I noticed a few nods and winks between 2 local guys (who seemed to be well acquainted) and the skipper! Turns out these 2 were regulars and often got to fish for free as they helped the skipper with the 'dumb tourists'. I found out at the end of the trip and on the way home when they started shaking my hands and saying " sorry pal we had you all wrong". That due to my shorts pale legs and typical tourist look I admit I had, that they had had a bet (turns out they do it regular) that I was a sure thing for seasick/hooking myself or others/losing the most tackle or asking them to unhook a fish. I caught not only the biggest (cod) but also the most fish on the boat! (I know luck probably played a part) and as the so called 'veteran of 20 years' pulled up his 5th wrasse and I looked and said " that's a ballen wrasse right"? He said "maybe not" to which I replied "peacock then" his face was a picture and when we got back on land he was like " your pulling my pisser you do this fishing regular"? I was like "Nah just watch Fishlocker and TAF" haha 😂 sorry for the wall of text but it made my day!
John, what’s your secret to staying upright on the boat without falling over? Every time I’m on a boat I’m all over the place lol great video as usual 👍🏻
Another great video, the ground swell was quite noticeable. Very interesting on your take on seals. I was a friend of the founder of the Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Ken Jones, I'm going back over 40 years, I never ever considered the spin you put on this, absolutely bang on, we humans are guilty of trying to fix things that are not broken, well...! at over 70, by quite a bit I have learned something new dispelling the adage... you cant teach an old dog new tricks...! you just have....Oh and the incursion of the other boat... in future say you know someone who fished these waters over 60 years ago...so don't act like a twat...! Until next time, thanks.
I will add to my comments that I do feel that if something has sustained injury due to human activity. Like one caught in pollution entanglement or from a boat strike etc. we have an obligation to provide care or to reduce suffering. But barring that we need to let nature take care of nature.
Hello John, Another great video, I really enjoy watching all your videos and learning. I am a novice at fishing having only returned to the hobby last year. Please could you explain more about the issues with the other boat so I and others can avoid the same mistakes - the first two points you made about 1. Steaming close and washing you off the wreck and 2. Steaming over the wreck and scaring the fish make sense to me, these both seem like stupid things to do. However I do not understand your 3rd point though 3. Don't fish with lures on small neap tides. You tried to explain this in the video but I do not understand your point. Please could you go into more detail about why this is wrong to do and how it affected you/the other boat?
Glad you asked this as I was about to do the same! Hopefully we'll get an answer. He did sort of explain it later in the video: that neap tides you drift with bait. But no specific explanation as to why.
I have explained the principle many times in other videos - usually lure fishing ones. Predator fish take energy from the water around them. They feed when the tide is flowing. So lure fishing for them is far improved when the tide is flowing stronger. Neap tides are when the tide is running slowest. Also, using long booms and traces when the tide is slack causes unending tangles as there is no tide to keep the trace out straight.
Good morning John, I know what you are saying you always get idiots I have experienced the same issue's when I'm wrecking, these kind of people are not worth losing your aggression over as karma has a way to get its own way back ,its nice to see your catch of nice ling and that you have christened you new rod tight lines John regards to Hannah and James, I cannot wait for some more videos regards ken😅

Similar problem in Hawaii where the shark cage tour companies go to the FADs and chum to bring as many sharks in as possible. Over time they have linked the sound of boat engines to food, so when sportfishing boats troll near the FADs it's common to lose fish to sharks. Much more than it was a decade ago.

I guess that guy doesn't watch your videos John. Every time I watch your videos, I come away with two things. One, I feel I am on vacation fishing with you. Two, I get an education about rods, bait, plants, creatures, different fish and techniques on different types of fishing. I fish every spring for American Shad. They are migratory. They come up the Delaware River. They do not bite on live bait, you have jig for them with lead lures called shad darts. They are single hooked lures painted different colors. I catch and release mostly. Shad have a lot of bones and difficult to eat. I go fishing in Delaware County New York. Great catch. All the best John. Greetings from Wood-Ridge New Jersey.
@@TheFishLocker There are seven varieties of breed of shad worldwide. I would imagine they are all close cousins. American Shad is lilac silver skin and scales, streamline, around 3-5 pounds in size. Very pretty fish. The most fun is to watch the fish follow your lure in. Where I fish the visibility of the river at times can be excellent. Twelve to fifteen feet. The rig I use is a 6 foot 6 inch Tournament Ugly Stick Blank that I put the thread, guides, and resin on myself. I used an old barbeque rottiserie motor to turn the rod parts because the resin took a number of hours to dry. I put on numerous coats. I came out great, it looks like blown glass over the thread. I matched it with a Shimano reel and Brekley limp cast six pound test line. They come up the river in diamond shaped schools. They enter the Delaware river at its mouth in Philadelphia. Supposedly they return to the Delaware after several years from around Norway and the other Scandanavian Countries .I fish for them almost 5 hours north of Philadelphia. My fishing spot is about 140 miles from where I live in New Jersey. They will be in the river in about 2-3 weeks from now. I am looking forward to having fun catching them. I will be thinking of you while I am going after them.
Well done John on another fine video! My first ever UA-cam comment. Just launched my new pro angler (Blackpool) running engine in a little bit boring. Your videos have inspired me to re kindle my boat angling again. Keep up the great work! Regards Eddie
Hello John, I very rarely leave comments on youtube channels, before i say anything your channel is probably my favourite, I admire your honest approach to life and and the especially enjoy your videos with your son, your knowledge and explanations have taught me a lot since i started subscribing to your channel. Sadly for the very first time I don’t agree with you. Your view on Seals being a nuisance ? Im sure there are many (if not the majority) fishermen like yourself that find seals to be a nuisance when your out fishing (and thats all it is) So you go out fishing for the pleasure of being out on the sea and when its suitable to do so you keep fish for the table (the same as i do) A seal however is fishing to survive so should take priority. If the seal doesn't succeed it and possibly its pups may die of starvation, if you or I don't succeed we will pick up some food from the local shop on the way home. The reason seals starve is due to the massive over fishing by commercial boats close to out shores, hence seals going further out to sea to find food, If perhaps our Government band all commercial fishing within 3 miles of the shore then fishing for anglers like yourself and seals would not be a problem and it would very likely help with restocking/breading for all fish and fishing including commercial boats. As for that person that deliberately tried to mess up your fishing in his boat he should be ashamed of himself and well done to you for holding your composure, I don't think I would have done so well.
There are other instances where seals are a problem. My wording of the argument could have been better. Instead, seals who have come into contact with humans are a real problem and a nuisance. They not only damage fishing gear but eat only select parts of fish in nets - wasting vast amount of it and making it unsalable. Plus when they move into an area like a bass nursery or upstream into a weir pool they kill everything. Exactly the same as when a fox gets into a hen house.

@@TheFishLocker MY 64th day on earth John, Wow so happy you upload make my day!!
Well done and many thanks for bringing us an amazing series of videos. Still throughly enjoying them. Glad you bagged some Ling, those fillets looked very good indeed. Shame about the run in...proves that age doesn't necessarily mean experience. The worst was the intolerance! What century are we in? Still, looked like a beautiful day to be out, looking forward to the warmer kayak fishing, and as soon as I have shifted this cold that my daughter has give me 😊 tight lines and best wishes, Kev
I always kind of think. If your fall back argument is “go back where you came from” you don’t have a very strong argument.
@@TheFishLocker As always, you sum things up perfectly! Best wishes, Kev
Hahaha I had to watch back your impression of Captain D!#&head a couple times it was so hilarious!
Glad it brought a smile to your face mate. 😉
Absolutely love your vids John. hopefully one day I can get my own boat !!
I am the same would love to get my own boat I find fishing very relaxing even if u catching nothing
Another great video John. That other guy. What a tool.
It happens. 🤷🏻♂️
You can't fix stupid. Some folks are clueless.
Great video as usual, John.
True mate.
Well I’m glad that the information has transferred across well to you mate. And well done on a successful charter. 👍🏻
John, what’s your secret to staying upright on the boat without falling over? Every time I’m on a boat I’m all over the place lol great video as usual 👍🏻
Time at sea after a while you body just knows
Unfortunately mate there is no trick. It’s just experience and sea legs.
@@TheFishLocker 🤣 oh well i guess i will just have to keep falling about 🤣 great videos though John, thank you 🙏
Bend your knees and go with the flow dude
Sea legs.. is that fins? 😂 You might try Wing Tsung basic stance
More successful than my Saturday session 😅, great watch john
Haha. I was a bit further offshore than you bud.
Knowledgeable and informative thank you so very much indeed..from a Grimsby angler envious of the clear water you fish in
Thank you very much James. You get far more cod up there than we do here
Hello John, Another great video, I really enjoy watching all your videos and learning.
@@TheFishLocker Hello John, that's perfect thank you for taking the time to reply to my question.
Nice couple ov ling there John, that Pastie couldn't hold a candle.
Haha.
Good morning John,
I know what you are saying you always get idiots I have experienced the same issue's when I'm wrecking, these kind of people are not worth losing your aggression over as karma has a way to get its own way back ,its nice to see your catch of nice ling and that you have christened you new rod tight lines John regards to Hannah and James, I cannot wait for some more videos regards ken😅

Another great video John, excellent job containing the northerner for the younger viewers😂
Haha. I’ll let him out when the cameras off 🤣
I really want to get one of them reels, but does the clicker being permanently on not annoy you? would drive me mental
you can take a washer out which will stop that, lovely reels but heavy and bulky.
The click is the anti reverse mechanism. If you take it out, the reel doesn’t work properly.
Sadly that is the sound they make.
@@TheFishLocker have a look into it fella its been a discussion for years, they use twin anti reverse, I only have two speed reels though maybe the single speed is different.
I 🥰 This channel brother/// 100 percent ACE!!

Another great video John. Thoroughly enjoyed watching it this morning while waiting to start my shift. Keep it up mate. Cheers
Have a good day at work bud.
Brilliant video John as always. Glad you got away from them boat anchors. They really need to learn the etiquette of boat fishing
Times like that it’s often better to just walk away.
You still caught two great fish! I like to see the cleaning of the fish and I’d even love to see when you dispatch lobster and crab. If some people can’t handle that they shouldn’t watch these parts of your videos.
I feel it is important too, but unfortunately those that don’t complain longer and louder than you would believe.
Just watching this..... But just wanted to say as you brought it up at the start of the video.... Actually lived the video with your little lad as always you show excellent child cars and education with him, and you can tell he is engaged and learning when he is out with you. I think your a excellent educator. Just wanted to say.

Another great video. Good on ye for 'walking' away. Life's too short. Too many humans go through life with their eyes closed and ye can't wake them up. Only they can do that themselves, if they see the light. (Hard to follow the previous comment. Well deserved appreciation).

That’s really interesting. I hear there are issues with this in the Red Sea.

Interesting facts about seals John. Makes sense.👍
😉
I’ve heard of Gizzard Shad. Are they similar?
Class John! Some right 🛎️ 🔚 about. Great video as ever 👏

Simple and honest mate. That’s all we make.
Cracking video buddy … even though I don’t go sea fishing it’s great watching someone who knows their stuff ….. some lovely fish and well done !!!!! Shame about the toss-pots that tried to spoil your day ….. let’s hope they caught nowt but snags 🤣🤣🤣… all the best buddy 🎣👍😁
