My favorite was 3 nuns sitting on a park bench, a streaker ran past. Two of the nuns had a stroke, the other one couldn't reach ! But i love when Billy goes off topic, he can suddenly go off on one and it takes him half an hour to get back on again. saw him in 1994, at a small local theatre, he did nearly 3 hours, when it finished i'd been laughing for so long and hard, my sides were sore for 2 days.

Sir Billy, is one of the UK's top comedians and has appeared in a few movies as well. If you don't mind hearing the F word he is hilarious. His humble beginnings as a welder in a shipyard then led to him playing music with a group and then turning his hand to comedy. He has been knighted by the Queen. He has many videos all of which are worth looking at, "Colonoscopy" being one of them. Thank you guys for choosing him to react to, you will not be disappointed (if you don't mind the F word being used that is).

My first experience of the F-word was a kid sitting on Billy's knee in the back seat of my Dad's car on the way home during a drive up the Sma Glen in Perthshire. We were sitting at a roadworks waiting for the green light to turn, when a low-flying RAF Phantom F-4 screamed overhead and Billy stuck his head out the car window and let rip with a stream of obscenities that would make your toes curl, which received a round of applause from the line of drivers in the queue. That's a true story, by the way!

Those two reactors are fairly po-faced and have watched but 'bleeped'/ 'silenced' words from Sunderland's comedian Sarah Millican before...
I don't see them as being 'overly enthusiastic' over Billy...
The guy - sorry, I forget what he said his name was - said he was waiting for the punchline, "waiting for Billy to be funny..."
I felt aggrieved on Billy's behalf, despite the fact Billy himself might just as likely shrug off such inane criticisms himself. 🤔😐🥺🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️🇬🇧😏🖖

I'm from England UK and when growing up in the 1970s, this Scottish comedy genius was always on TV (also through much of the 1980s and 1990s)
My parents loved him and he always had us all in hysterics. Someone bought me a vinyl album of his as a Christmas present when I was about 13, me and my friends couldn't play it enough!
In the 1970s, the top interviewer on TV was Michael Parkinson. His show was 'Parkinson' and he was our Johnny Carson or Letterman, without the jokes. He just used to let the guests do the talking. Anyway, he said his biggest viewing figures were always for just two guests - Muhammad Ali, and Billy Connolly.
What you see here is an older-era video of The Big Yin, his younger years material is also great.
    A real comedy legend!

As a young man Billy was a welder and boilermaker in the Glasgow dockyards. He heard a lot of stories about life, and he would also sing some folk songs with a banjo, with a few stories told between, Eventually the humour overtook the singing. As others have said he doesn't tell jokes as such, He just starts talking and sees where it goes. Nothing is prepared, he just has a way of remembering comical events from life, and telling them in his own style. He's quite the character. He used to ride around on a huge Harley Davidson trike. He has appeared in films as well and now lives in the US. Recently though he developed Parkinsons, so no longer does any stand up. He also has ADD, which might account for his rambling style of repartee.

Billy used to be in a sort of folk group called the Humblebums with Gerry Rafferty of Baker Street fame, and his early stand up comedy routines are fantastic, but the accent was a lot stronger back then so not as easy to understand perhaps.

Actually, The Humblebums originally consisted of Billy and a guy called Tam Harvey and Gerry Rafferty joined later and they continued as a trio on the folk club circuit. Tam Harvey got tired of life on the road and left the group in around 1970 and Billy and Gerry continued on as a duo after that for another couple of years. Gerry and Billy eventually went their separate ways: Billy to do his solo stand-up and Gerry headed to London and joined Stealers Wheel before eventually pursuing his solo career.

The Monty Pythoners grew up listening to this show. Bob and Ray were a comic duo on US radio and TV from the late 1940's to Ray's death in 1990. And last but not least, The Firesign Theatre which started on radio in L.A. in 1966. They produced record albums, one of the first comic CD's and a number of movies. Enjoy!

Fun fact! Billy in the 60s was half of a Scottish folk duo, think Smothers Brothers, with another Scottish musician named Gerry Rafferty, who went on to form the band Stealers Wheel and then a great solo career.

The folk band in question was known as The Humblebums, and it was a duo consisting of Billy, a fellow called Tam Harvey, and then became a trio with Gerry Rafferty. Tam Harvey left The Humblebums in around 1970 and Billy and Gerry continued on together for another year to 18 months, until they came to a mutual agreement that they'd taken it as far as they could and they split and went their separate ways. Billy went into his solo stand-up shows and Gerry headed for the bright lights of London, initially as part of Stealers Wheel and then as a solo artiste.

Billy Connolly launched a ‘new’ style of comedy, moving from the wisecracking one line comedy style into story telling. He was seen as bold & brash but nonetheless hilarious in the 1970’s for his observational style delivery of stories about everyday life. I would say he’s the grandfather of modern comedy with the likes of Peter Kay, Michael McIntyre, John Bishop & Rhod Gilbert following in his footsteps. It’s an acquired taste but the amazing thing is that he became an actor & was very highly regarded in his dramatic role of ‘Mrs Brown’ amongst others.

Try his wildebeest story. This story is a good one, but probably not the best introduction to him. Also the old woman on a bus is great too.

You need to watch Micky Flanagan, one of the funniest English comedians that we have. Warning, he is from London and has a strong Cockney accent, I'm from the North East of the UK and struggle at times.
