Director Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) played the Santa that stabbed Nicholas' hand, and Cate Blanchett played his ex-girlfriend.
Hot Fuzz had been on a regular watch list for me since it was released. It requires multiple views to catch new stuff every time. So glad you two enjoyed it!

This has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. Its so brilliantly shot, every actor in it absolutely kills their roll. The parallels from the beginning to the end. It makes perfect sense when you realize who directed it. Edgar Wright is SO GOOD.

I think this movie is close to absolute perfection when it comes to the art of film making. Especially if you consider the budget.
Same here, it feels like nearly every shot or piece of dialogue has some sort of subtle inside joke. It's just such a comfy comedy that almost feels like having a good laugh with friends.
The 2 characters on the front desk are played by Bill Bailey - one's always reading an Iain M Banks book (sci-fi) and the other is always reading an Iain Banks book (non sci-fi). The same author, but uses 2 different names for different genres, for anyone who doesn't know.
He was a genius. Too bad he died before writing ten more Culture novels.
The amount of times I've seen this movie and still learning new things about it haha. I knew the actor but wasn't aware of the 2 different books and being by the same author lol

I've watched this movie maybe nine times and it only just clicked that the ginger boy in the finale says his name is "Aaron A Aaronson", calling back to when the Andy's were complaining about having to call everyone in the local phone book. Every single punchline in this movie has a setup, even if it comes 90 minutes in advance. Perfect film!
My favorite callback was who had guns - farmers and farmers' mums. The farmer outside the town actually yells out, "Mum!" 😂
One thing I just caught is Nicholas saying "You can't just make people disappear!" And Bill Nighy's character saying "Yes I can, I'm the Chief"
It tells you who the big bad is in the first few minutes
For me it's always the stupidest jokes in this movie that just punch me right in the gut, like:
"You've got a mustache."
"I _knooow."_
“Everyone and their mums is packing around here”
“Oh really, like who?”
“Farmers”
“Who else?”
“Farmer’s mums”
Still get a wry chuckle on the nth time of watching. Such a great script.

This movie was filmed on location in the City of Wells, Somerset. My wife accidentally drove through the set while they were filming because she needed to go to the ATM, causing a re-shoot & her nephew is one of the "hoodies", who were all drawn from the local schools. The "Model Village" is a genuine local tourist attraction, & the pub is actually really friendly.
& most UK police will tell you that "Sandford" is the fictitious town name used in many police training exercises.
This is all true.
You guys have to do the whole Cornetto Trilogy now! The World’s End is one of my favorites of all time. These guys never fail to impress.

Any time I see the movie now, I have to think "Olivia Coleman has an Oscar".
If any film deserves Oscars, then it's this one.
But Hollywood wouldn't know a superb film if it ran them over.

this cast is one of the best british casts ever put together. so many of them only now like Paddy Considine and Olivia Coleman are getting their props. the cameo list is amazing also, and yes thats Cate Blanchete at the ex in the crime scene.

The Equaliser and James Bond on the NWA......also the hedgehog escapes unhurt....(.in real life, swans sometimes escape from the Bishops Palace in Wells where this was filmed. They also ring a bell to get fed )
Fun Fact: There are so many fun facts about Hot Fuzz that you could write a whole book just listing them all.
I think my favourite fact is that it was filmed in Edgar Wright's hometown. Like he went off, made it big, then came back to his small town to shoot a blockbuster movie. That's got to be the ultimate payoff.
My favorite fun fact is probably that Peter Jackson plays the stabby man dressed as Father Christmas.
What I love, is Danny is not a dummy.. He wasn't being a 'bad police officer' because he was 'bad', he just wasn't good because he had never been taught..
The moment Angel comes in, Danny was a sponge.. Soaked in all the knowledge he had been denied.. Words Angel used, Procedures Angel used, The experiences Angel had shared with him..
He listened, learned, and then used back. And of course, in comedic fashion.
And the fact that everything that he listed throughout the entire movie, "Have you done this, No, have you done that, No".. between the two of them, all of them get checked off the list.
Also, just as an FYI, the "running through the back garden fence" scene was a reference to Shawn of the Dead.
The Santa who stabbed Simon Pegg is played by Peter Jackson, director of the LOTR movies, and Lurch is played by the Hound.
I also forgot Paddy Considine was in this.

It's so cool that 'Doris' is played by Olivia Colman, who is now a hugely-acclaimed Oscar-winner. Not mention two Emmys and three Golden Globes.
I was told by a police officer in England that the people working on the force love this movie because it is funny without making cops idiots.
You occasionally see various UK police force Twitter accounts referencing this movie whenever they have to rescue a Swan that's wandered onto a motorway or similar situation.
I love the enthusiasm but it undouobtably DOES look police officers look like idiots
This film solidified Edgar Wright as my favorite director. He truly understands that film is an audio AND visual medium. The cinematography and editing add to the storytelling and comedy as much as the dialogue does. Never been disappointed in anything he's made, and all of his works deserve repeat viewings.
Edgar Wright's filmography is incredible! One of the best screenwriters/directors we have today.
It really annoys me that they have never done a fourth.
And then this guy makes Baby driver witch its narrative rolls around music beautifully . That itself is quite bonkers achievement.

I watched the extended DVD footage with an early film on videotape. Even as a kid, Wright had talent!
I personally believe this is one of the best scripts/screenplays ever written. It’s just so good and so well executed, it’s really hard to even think of anything to compare it to.
As far as the cast being in so many other big movies or shows, well there’s only so many British character actors around so they tend to show up everywhere. :p
I think Bill Nighy once said that before getting the Scrimgeour role he was "the only British actor who's not in Harry Potter".
Agree, it's so tightly written and every joke has a payoff it feels like the movie did not waste a single second

I think the "bulletproofness" of everything was a spoof on all the US movies and TV series, in which there are so many shots fired, but nobody ever gets hurt _(who is not supposed to get hurt)._
Edit: also don't forget how in US movies/TV series simple tables, couches or car doors are always 100% safe to hide behind, _(despite being riddled by bullet holes)_ and despite definitely NOT being safe to hind behind, IRL.
The writing is so great. Everything Dany asked Angel if he had done he gets to do himself during the climax of the movie.
If I was stuck on an island with only one movie to watch for the rest of my life, this would be it. It is endlessly rewatchable.

Ha! I had just said exactly that to another reactor's video for Hot Fuzz. No matter how many times I watch it, I always notice more hidden setups.
This is one of those movies where almost everything that is set up has a payoff. Brilliant writing. You don't get a much tighter script.
I highly recommend the movie Attack the Block. Nick Frost is also in it and Edgar Wright was co-producer. It was also a breakthrough role for John Boyega.
I love that film. A favourite Creature Feature.

I watched it a while back because I heard a lot of good things about it, but I just found it to be average tbh.
Nikki spotted things I never noticed like the new actors on the poster near the finale and a few others. But you guys will spot things you missed when you watch it again. And again. For example, almost all the dialog in the second half is a callback to dialog in the first half. This movie is amazing. Might be the most well put together film I've ever seen. Glad you guys enjoyed it as much as I did. I wonder if you'll also end up quoting it as much as I did. (I fully expect your answer to that to be, "Yarrrp".)
I have watched this a bunch of times as well as checking out a lot of reactions and this was the first time I caught the ginger kids name callback to the Andys going through the phone book bit.
The brilliant cuts, the non-stop innuendos, the ridiculous twists throughout the movie. The best of the trilogy, and one of my all-time favorites.
Yes, he was briefly the Minister for Magic in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. He read out Dumbledore’s will to Harry. So many recognisable faces in this film.
And not so recognizable faces: The Santa Clause stabbing him is Peter Jackson, the masked forensic investigator ex-girlfriend at the crime scene is Cate Blanchett and the Priest is the French villian from Indiana Jones 1: Raiders of the Lost Ark. :D
The special-edition DVD has a ton of extras (and multiple commentaries). Pegg and Wright have a whiteboard with multiple pages that they go through, explaining how the solution that Angel first comes up with was very thought out, makes complete sense, and would normally be the motive/solution in another mystery film. A similar amount of planning was put into the real solution - they killed anyone that would make them lose the Village of the Year contest.
The bloopers are the BEST ever, I was literally wheezing LOL
I've seen this movie at least 10 times. I watched it again with Nikki & Steven on their live channel. And I watched again when they posted this tonight. It NEVER gets old!

I define perfect movies as a film you can watch repeatedly and it never gets old. There are not very many perfect movies in my book but this is one of them.
Nikki gets all the points for being the first reactor I've seen to recognise that "it's THAT Romeo And Juliet!".
And spotting the poster in the shop window. I've seen this movie maybe 20 times and never noticed that tiny awesome detail before . :)
I grew up in the same area as Simon Pegg. This is basically a documentary about the best-kept village competition. It was serious business.
54:06 hearing you say all that makes me and I’m sure millions out there feel so much joy to see another two get introduced to such gold. This was a instant favorite for me the day I saw it back when it came out. And I’ve probably seen it over 30 times since yet it never gets old.
Fun Fact: One of the Cartwright police brothers was played by Paddy Considine, our dear and beloved King of the Seven Kingdoms, Viserys Targaryen in House of the Dragon.
Also Fun Fact: The big bald dude who only says the word 'Yarp" was played by Rory McCann, or you might know him as - 'The Hound' Ser Sandor Clegane from Game of Thrones.
Know it's obvious, but the man who cut the hedges and has the "Sea Moin!"is Walder Frey/the First Doctor/Argus Filch, David Bradley.

This movie saved my sanity. Years of depression and manic episodes, this was a movie I could watch to keep my spirits buoyed. And the Academy Award and nominated actors in this is impressive!
someone has already mentioned "hidden" hollywood actors and directors that have cameos but the 3 judges are also cameos one of the women is Simon Peggs mother the other lady is Edgar Wright's mother and the man is Edgar Wrights high school english teacher. the location for Sandford is Edgar Wrights home town aswell.
The Cornetto Trilogy is a modern masterpiece in terms of script writing/screenplay alone, the timing of jokes are constant but gives you time to appreciate pretty much every single one of them.
"You want to be a big cop in a small town? Fuck off up the model village!"
Final fight takes place in the model village. I love this film.
The truly brilliant thing about this movie is that every line has a payoff later on in the movie. Watch it again and I can all bar guarantee that you'll pick up stuff that you missed the first time

you arrested the whole village? not exactly, Angel proceeds to arrest almost all the characters we meet
ever jumped through the air firing two guns, shot your gun in the air and gone AAARGH? been in a high speed chase while shooting a gun, etc etc etc, all happens later.
at the fair Angel takes out all the figures and then danny shoots the doctor in the foot, same thing happens in the town square shootout.

This is probably one of the best action comedies I've ever watched. Mile a minute jokes, but they were clever. And a wonderful plot, amazing cinematography, great sound design. And the script is so tight and concise, there is hardly a wasted moment in the movie. I love the Monty Python movies and the Cornetto trilogy and this is my favorite of them all! Also Simon Skinner is played by Sir Timothy Dalton, James Bond for The Living Daylights and License to Kill.
Them pulling over Martin Blower was Edgar Wright's attempt to write the shortest car chase in cinema history.
I won't ever forget my mom recommended this movie to me. It was really the first time we discussed any sort of films together. I think it's time for a rewatch myself!
This movie so good. the lines that Danny said is lines for love interest, they just gave them to Danny, so it a bromance also. So many action movies reference in this movie it beautiful.
I've loved this movie for years (after already loving Shawn of the Dead). We have the dvd and watch it frequently. The more I watch it, the more I realize this is one of the most perfect comedy/action movies ever made. Not a scene or line is wasted. Absolute brilliance. Loved enjoying it again with you guys!
The guy that plays Viserys also stars in a really good movie called Dead Man's Shoes. Its a revenge movie that really hits in the feels.
He co-wrote it and he wrote and directed Tyrannosaur, another tough movie that won a slew of awards, and that provided Olivia Colman her dramatic breakthrough (right after they made this film).
Yeah - Dead Man's Shoes is one of my favourite movies. Considine is incredible.
It's Toby Kebbell's movie debut, too, I believe.
The film is perfect from script to visuals. A true masterpiece.
This is one of those movies that gets even better with rewatches; you notice more and more little bits of foreshadowing every time
Edgar Wright is a god damned genius when it comes to editing and cinematography. The guy just has this style that works so well. And Nick and Simon are unstoppable together. This cast is stacked. The humor is awesome, and some how this still manages to feel like real life in a small town.
OHHHH this is an instant UK Classic. Used to be terrified of it growing up and now it's one of my all time favs

First time I saw this it was with friends who had seen it before. Before the reveal I was convinced it was The Living Statue, because it would’ve been out of nowhere. When Angel found his body among the NWA’s victims, I shouted “NO!” like Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith

I have watched this movie SOOO many times, plus an uncountable amount of reactors watching it as well. Worth it every time. To the point that I was sure you guys had already reacted to this years ago, but no matter. Every rewatch of Hot Fuzz is time well spent. Never gets old.

One of my top 5 movies. I love how you rewatch it you notice more little things, like how every main bad guy was taken out by real accidents when they were using fake ones to hide the murders.
Such a great movie! I never realized that was the actor who played The Hound either! If you’d like another British movie with a lot of action, and fast paced editing I’d recommend watching Snatch if you haven’t seen it yet.
I was going to recommend they watch Snatch. One of the best movies ever. This and Snatch make my movie top 10 list. 👍
Great movie that gets better and better with every rewatch. There's just so many references in it.
There are so many easter eggs and quick things crammed into the movie hiding as jokes. I still find new bits I never realized before. It took me like 12 or so viewings before I finally figured out the front desk clerk was 2 different guys, even though there's a scene that shows them both at the same time.

Cultural background:
In the 90's, Britain made it illegal (or harder, in case of hunting rifles) to own guns.
It's _heavily_ implied Sandford funneled a whole lot of hand-ins to that shed, and the Watch picked whatever guns looked cool for themselves, without ever practicing much. Which is why they all aim like A-Team villans.
My ex forced me to watch this movie at gunpoint and I'm SO glad she did. For the greater good!

I've seen this film a few dozen times. It's certainly one of my favorite comedies, and the one thing that makes me laugh the hardest now is the look of absolute horror on Simon Pegg's face at the end of the Romeo & Juliet play.

The awesome transitions with the quick editing style is a recurring thing in the trilogy, along with the fence jumping. I hope you guys watch the third one because it's just as great and sooo underrated.

Even though I've seen this movie easily over 30 times, I noticed something new today. When Nikki pointed out that there are new actors on the Romeo & Juliet poster in the newsagents during the shootout in the village square.

I saw this movie when it 1st came out. This was the 1st foreign film that made me laugh so much. I needed a movie like this one during the dreadful 2000s.
For me foreign movies are those outside of the english language market.
The creme de la creme of British acting talent just having outrageous fun.
All of the members of the NWA ( yes, that was intentional) are played by British character actors. At the time, Timothy Dalton (a former James Bond) was basically retired, but they really wanted him to play Simon Skinner. He was sent the script, loved it, and told his agent he would do it.
The priest is Belloq from "Raiders of the Lost Arc".
Correction: they wanted someone like Timothy Dalton to play Simon Skinner until someone asked why not Timothy Dalton himself? The rest was history.

It was so great to watch you two react to this absolute gem of a movie. Being from the part of England where this was set the humour is so relatable (such as the incomprehensible speech). Seeing awesome humans from elsewhere in the world fall in love with movies like this is the best feeling. If you ever happen to seek out the tv show Spaced with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright (From 1998-99) you would love it. Packed with movie references. There's even an episode that's Resident Evil inspired due to Simon Pegg's character constantly playing it. A foreshadowing to Shaun of the Dead a few years down the line. Keep it up Nikki and Steven!
I saw his one 8 times in theatres, absolutely fell in love, but every single showing at least 4 ppl would walk out before the "Greater Good" reveal 😂😂😂
The fact that one of the Andys is also viserys Targaryen from House if the Dragon also makes me laugh, shows how good an actor he is!!
Seriously, Nikki's enthusiasm makes everything so much better. I feel like she is the embodiment of the voice in my head.
For me this is one of the best action films ever made, it’s just brilliant. The best way to parody a genre is to do it perfectly.
The cast in this movie is unbelievable. You recognized people from Harry Potter and GOT, but there is so much more.
Kenneth, the chief of police in London is not only Shaun's step dad in Shaun of the dead, but you should also recognize him as Davy Jones from Pirates of The Caribbean, among many other roles, Bill Nighy has quite the resume. Martin Freeman, another London officer, was Bilbo, Watson in Sherlock, he's in the Fargo TV show, and was the "Jim" from the British version of The Office. The Reverend who shoots at Nicholas has played Belloq in Raiders Of The Last Ark (Indy's rival). Skinner, the owner of the supermarket, is Timothy Dalton, the James Bond before Pierce Brosnan, and has recently played Niles Caulder in Doom Patrol. The police woman is Olivia Colman, who has won an Oscar by now, but started as a mostly comedic actress. Cate Blanchett (Galadriel) plays Nicholas' ex girlfriend, though we never even see her face.
I also recognize a bunch of other people because I get a lot of British shows in my country, mostly the amazing British comedy shows that are so innovative and clever. Many of these actors have worked together several times in other shows, including with Edgar Wright, the director, and there are so many smaller parts being played by classically trained British actors.
It sounds like this movie was just people who really like eachother coming together to make something fun, as it as for all movies in the Cornetto trilogy.

As mentioned below, this movie is part of the Cornetto trilogy, named after the pre packaged ice cream cones they sometimes eat in the movies. With all the actors you recognized, I am surprised you did not recognize Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins) from The Hobbit as a London police officer. He was also in Shaun of the Dead, and appears again in the third movie World’s End. Another fun fact of the movie involves the judges at the end of the movie. The two ladies were portrayed by Simon Peg’s and Edgar Wright’s mothers for the scene. Another movie with both Simon and Nick is Paul. It is just as hilarious.
Glad you both liked this as much as you did and so happy how many actors you noticed. Most people don't catch half as many as you both did. I love everything with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. May not be quite on Hott Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead level but World's End and also Paul are both Pegg and Frost movies that could be poll worthy in the future.
Great movie. The thing with British cinema is that our actors will happily take smaller parts in movies, so we get stellar casts very often.
My favourite trivia about this all-timer movie:
- Father Christmas was played by Peter L. Jackson
- Janine was played by Cate Blanchett
- The Doctor describes the entire plot of the movie in his dialogue during the scene where Simon Pegg plays the shooting game at the fair. Edgar Wright also did this in Shaun of the Dead where Ed (played by Nick Frost) describes the entire plot of that film in converstaion with Shaun (Pegg) in an early scene.
- Timothy Dalton spikes the lense in the pub and Edgar Wright fiound it so funny he addied a cash register sound effect in the edit.
- The NWA features some legendary actors for instance Paul Freeman (the reverend) you may recognise as the main villain from Raiders of the Lost Ark, Edward Woodward (the head of the NWA) is the lead in the Wicker Man.
- When Jim Broadbent's character is introducing Angel to the rest of the Sandford Police Service, if you freeze frame it on Kevin Eldon his head is in the middle of a spider diagram that states all his character's negative traits.
This film is just infinitely rewatchable and you can catch so many little easter eggs and jokes on repeat viewings. Also, I'm so stoked to see Paddy Considine start getting some recognition. Man's been one of the finest actors in the world since the early 2000's. Check out Dead Man's Shoes and The Journeyman for other incredible performances from him.
The deleted scenes and outtakes are amazing. This movie has some of the best bonus features ❤
Hot Fuzz is one of those movies you can watch over and over and laugh just as hard as the first time you saw it!

This has been regarded as the best cop film ever. It is so well written and put together, if you watched it a dozen times you would still spot something new.

the writing and callbacks in this film are so good. the two ringleaders of the bad guys get taken out by exactly the sort of ridiculous accident they were pretending happened to everyone else. at the fair, Angel takes out all the little figures and then Danny shoots the doctor in the leg, same as in the town square. Angel using a PEACE lilly as a weapon, you cant just make people disappear, "yes i can I'm the chief inspector" same as the Chief in sandford making people disappear, all the last names that tie to the characters, Blower (talks a lot), Tiller, (grows plants) Merchant (owns a big supermarket), Messenger (writes for the paper), Angel (saves the day), Skinner (murders folk), Porter(runs a pub) Walker (Saxon's handler) Armstrong (is massive and strong)
Paddy Considine is an underrated treasure. I haven't seen any House of the Dragon yet myself, but glad to see him get some more high profile roles. You'll be seeing him in The World's End, too.
This film is god tier. First watched this at school when I was about 12 and watched it most years since 😂
I loved Steven's smile and Nikki's reaction when they realized that was King Viserys's actor
Gotta love it! Bilbo Baggins, Davey Jones, , Viserys Targaryen, Galadriel, Walder Frey, James Bond and The Hound all on the same film ❤❤❤
This movie is also super awesome in how it portrays the police-force, not a single person is killed by the hands of the police. I also love seeing everyone get their comeuppance in a dramatically ironic fashion.

If you've ever watched Snatch, or 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' you'll see where they got the inspiration for those cool transitions from. And if you haven't watched those two movies then you _absolutely_ need to. Iconic British movies!

I love how absolutely jam packed this cast is. Harry Potter and Game of Thrones as you said, but also Doctor Who (which would be fun to see you watch. It's silly and cheesy, but also can be serious and make you cry.) and The Crown (another good one).

and Belloq from Raiders of the Lost Ark!
Thats because its a british cast. We dont have a huge amount of actors and if you ever watch a british film you will see the same quality actors in them lol.

Whooo!!!! One of my favorite movies of all time. I rewatch this all the time.. It covers so many genres. Buddy cop film, drama, comedy, action, horror, suspense thriller... Favorite Edgar Wright film for me. I use "Yarp" all the time.
