    Pre-ordered this as this was perfect for my needs. It came DOA. I immediately send it to Asus for replacement. This was back in May. I haven't heard anything except for the canned responses saying they will replace it but waiting on stock. Still waiting with no end in sight. I'd advise to steer clear until they get their act together.

      @@lottexy Feel that way. I bought from newegg. Admittedly they did say they would accept the return but they went immediately out of stock and had no idea if they would be getting any new stock in so I decided to take my chances with an RMA. I bring my Ghost S1 for travel around the world (or at least I did prior to COVID). Use it for both work + gaming / media station. But I never bring a screen. I always connect it to the TV in the Airbnb where I'm staying. Then I use Parsec App for streaming the screen to my laptop when working, and use the TV itself when gaming / watching movies etc.

      Wow, I was thinking about doing the same! However I did think about the Apex 15 instead (the name depends of the company selling it, its a Clevo laptop) since you can put a desktop CPU in it and is much smaller than the desktop equivalent)

    • @odinsplaygrounds
      @odinsplaygrounds 3 роки тому +5

      Felix Cravic the main reason I have this setup is for GPU power. I had originally planned on getting an eGPU. But then I found out it’s extremely limited bandwidth, even with thunderbolt. So much of the GPU power is lost. And about gaming laptops, remember that even a 2080 in a laptop is about same power as a 2060 desktop. They’re much weaker.

    • @TheMode911
      @TheMode911 3 роки тому +1

      @@odinsplaygrounds The 2070 mobile max p GPU is effectively equivalent to a 2060 desktop, but the 2080 mobile max p is similar to a 2070 desktop. @@RideTheTrack Of course it will leave things a bit up to the circumstances. This is actually perfect. My career will require me to travel a lot, and I already do. Proper laptops for gaming and editing software are just too expensive and come with a lot of problems-at least in the experiences I’ve had. My laptop with an Nvidia 1060 is starting to chug now and I don’t feel like shelling another $2000 or so just to get up to speed for mid range again when I could pay that amount or even less to get a better build that can be upgraded. This video is a year old so I probably won’t be doing any copying but it’s the first one that showed up and it proves that what I want is VERY doable. Thanks for this!

    Hi mate, one of main reasons why I bought this monitor was because most gaming laptops require the power cable to be plugged into the wall. Then I thought about if the gaming laptop will be upgradable or not. Another reason was HEAT. All these questions were answered with my dan a4 case using a mini 2070 super, asrock h470m itx, i7 10700, asetek 645LT, corsair sf600, hyperx low profile 16gb ram. The accessories I used was logitech wireless g502, wireless corsair mini keyboard, razer hammerhead true wireless and a samson gomic. This all goes into the alienware Vindicator V2.0 backpack. The portable mini pc (in my opinion) would smash any gaming laptop on the market purely because it doesn't suffer from overheating and being non upgradeable pc. Setting this up also takes under 2mins.

    I'm the niche audience being in the Navy and I already bought this monitor the moment it came out. It is the best by a MILES! I used to use the sibolan s17 before it and that used to be the best portable monitor (1440p, 120hz, 17in, TN panel) and it was terrible, and you still had to fork over 400$usd for it. The XG17 finally completed my setup, and it's amazing and worth the price. Extra engineering goes into making it really thin on top of the already amazing stats, I think it's fair. Being able to pick up my system with one hand and move it from my dorm to the student lounge, back home on the weekends, and wherever else I might want to bring it is very appealing to me. And since I'm a college student, my budget doesn't allow for any really high end components, so I'm not limited all that much by the size of my case - I'd probably be getting a Ryzen 5 3600 and 1660 Super even if I was doing an atx build. I use a laptop when I go to classes of course.

    I am absolutely a use case for this.
    I have a Dan A4 build I use for travel, LAN parties, etc. It fits into a camera bag that airplanes allow as a personal item, along with a keyboard, mouse, and portable monitor.
    My portable monitor rn is a 1080p 60Hz IPS from AliExpress. It was about $130 CAD, and works well (unlike many that use usb and special drivers, it's mini HDMI and driverless). Only issue is response times, as gaming is pretty noticeably difficult for it.
    I'd love something similar to this. 240Hz is unnecessary, 120 or 144 would be better (to save cost). I don't know if 17" would fit in my bag, so a 13 or maybe 15 would work better. I just stick mine in a laptop sleeve, which allows me to use the stand it came with, which has full tilt flexibility rather than 1 angle like the cover stand for this thing. I prefer that, cause the full fancy stand on this might take up too much space.
    So if Asus or someone else wants to make something like that, and do it a bit cheaper, they'll definitely have a customer out of me.

    I got mine at 6kg (12.5L 12x26x40cm fully 9900K+2080ti water-cooled with 360 rad) I'm using EK FluidGaming aluminium series loops (Damn be EK for discontinuing the lineup!)
    NOTE: the 9900K is overclocked to 5GHz and undervolted a bit thanks to OptimusTech great video on exactly that topic! So many thanks for that!! :)
    Currently I think the heaviest single component is the PSU, sf750 comes at almost a kilo (so I even wonder if I can reverse engineer the PSU housing to get its panels copied and machined from aluminium in some metallurgy-studio)
    I had to shave 200gr with custom (cablemod) cables, though I did it primarily for the space savings (can't really claim cable-management as they're just dangling around there, but the PSU cables are just about the correct length so not much to dangle, however the SIX fans' cables are a bit ugly :D)
    Just as comparison a desktop-parts gaming laptop like Alienware Area-51m
    Weight 3.87 kg + Power Supply: 2.16 kg comes to above ~ 6kg (though that includes the keyboard and display obviously, but the rtx2080 is not a TI model)
    But while even the lightweight SFF PC is rather chunky and heavy (compared to most laptops) at least it has no real upgrade limitations (I plan to upgrade it to the new Ryzen 9 5950X hence doubling the cores & multi-threading speed, and adding ~19% to single-threading at the same or lower power consumption ... not something you can do with a laptop)
    Here's an old picture from the first fill-up:

    Like you I like SFF mostly for desk/office space, but I also (used to) travel a lot. I have found a very cheap no brand screen with foldable cover that I am really happy with for travelling (AILRINNI Portable Monitor - 15.6 Inch Full HD 1080P IPS). It's 60Hz but it's also 140 GBP. Comes with the foldable stand and also supports USB-C and mini HDMI .

    I bought this monitor and did the unboxing video too on my channel, but after 5 days of use 8 pixels went from normal to total green and it was so annoying while gaming and watching content, so I sent it back. Good thing I had 1 month return back.

    My reason to buy is to hook it up to a series s console for some light gaming on the go, plus I can also use this in a dual monitor setup with my gaming laptop.
    But the price is definitely steep tho..

    Yes, this something I'm looking for to build, after new GPU's and CPU's are released. I travel a lot for work, sometimes all week, and I need something for my gaming habit. I have a Predator laptop from 3 years ago, did and still dose a good job, but the problem with laptops is upgrade. with an ITX you can swap GPU, CPU, whenever you want or need more power, plus the extra performance from a desktop variant vs laptop one.

    I would love something like this as a secondary display for watching/reading things while gaming as I don't necessarily need the full 24" or 27" size for just a second monitor. But at $500+ that's a steep ask...

    came back to this video recently since i compete in valorant but have to take my desktop for lan, but right now the most cost efficient way has become laptops. what I do now to travel is i bought a budget lenovo loq16 with i7 13620H. since all i play is valorant i get some crazy performaance averaging 400 fps which is the sweetspot for me, take my 25 240hz monitor with me and its the perfect little setup that allows me to play without compromises, sure the 25 inch monitor is a bit of a hassle since you need a suitcase but i always take one anyways since i spend several days so no prob. and with the mobile 4060 sure is not the most powerful gpu but i can still stream and get clips with it without any real performance impact. I initially wanted a NUC kit or build my sff setup but the laptop was so cost efficient, only 1400 for a package like that over having to spent 2-3k on a nuc kit or sff build.

    You can get similar monitors for really cheap on AliExpress. I've been using a 17 inch, 1080p monitor as a secondary monitor when i travel for 2 years and its been great. It gets power from the USB of your laptop/PC and uses mini-HDMI. Super thin, come with a small foldable stand.
    Im sure they arent they same quality as this ASUS one, but they are much cheaper and work OK!
