Absolutely. Compact sand, just like tights lies on grass, give you less margin for error. It can be a harder shot in general, that's just something to accept and amend your expectations accordingly, but you can also treat it more like a classic lob shot and not try to strike it so far behind the ball

I think what is as important is reading the sand conditions…..super hard packed sand a wide open face could bounce right into the ball
