    Caiman lizard looks like a tegu, has the scales of a gator, the skin patter of a green iguana, the personality of a breaded dragon, and the woah factor of a monitor lizard. I really want one after watching videos of these cool animals.

    People should really talk about finances when talking about enclosures. To hopefully scare the cheapskates to not get an advanced lizard like this

    Can you recommend a site that gives extensive, and (to your knowledge) accurate care taking Information for Caiman Lizards specifically, and how to recognize when they might be ill, and what to do in those scenarios as well?

    • @TheReptileProject
      @TheReptileProject  5 років тому +1

      Lala Araki I like your suggestions! Unfortunately I find mistakes in almost every care sheet so the best thing to look for when you are checking out care sheets on the Internet is to find the most consistent information. Typically the most repetitive information is going to be the most correct. We are still learning a lot about the species so not everything is set in stone.

    • @mattslev
      @mattslev 5 років тому +1

      Lala Araki There are two or three user groups on Facebook dedicated to keeping caiman lizards. You should join them and read over the posts there. Lots of good information. Definitely do a ton of research before you commit to getting one of these lizards. They are super cool animals, but they need huge enclosures set up for both a semi-aquatic and semi-arboreal lifestyle, their diet is fairly specialized, and they often come in as imports loaded with parasites. It is imperative to have a knowledgeable reptile veterinarian to help with any issues you may encounter with this species.

      Lala Araki I’m on All About Caiman Lizards FB group. I’d suggest that one.

    75-100gallon tank sounds pretty small. I got a 180 gallon tank that's 6ft by 2ft. How big does these lizards get? Is 75-100 gallon tank really enough for these guys to swim?

    • @marquanreese7895
      @marquanreese7895 3 роки тому +1

      No not really but tbh it is sufficient for them to just be able to submerged themselves completely. However it's more optimum to have a larger swimming area. Especially as adults however u could just potentially use a larger tub seperate from the regular cage that u use every once or twice a week for optium comfort

    So my caiman seems to be losing his appetite. He was good for almost a year. Any ideas? Parasite? Maybe time for a bigger enclosure? Also not tame at all. Will not take food from a tong and freaks out if i get to close. Any suggestions for that? I so badly want him to be my buddy. All his temps are spot on.

    • @TheReptileProject
      @TheReptileProject  5 років тому +4

      Joanee Grylls a Caiman Lizard would be a lot to take on at age 14. I would recommend these to someone who knows they will be committed and can provide a lot of water and space. I believe that Large lizard and fish keeping experience is a must. You must have knowledge of how to identify parasites and infection in lizards. It’s not uncommon for them to die in the first year due to illness.
      If it’s her first lizard and she wants something unique and cool check out the jeweled lacerta or the gold tegu. they are far easier to care for, a little larger than a bearded dragon and they tame out really well.
      I wish ya the best of luck!

    • @professormoo2
      @professormoo2 5 років тому +1

    • @cloudyday8279

      I would convince her to get a smaller lizard 🦎 to start. Geckos and bearded dragons are a lot easier to care for. Or even a corn snake, king snake, or ball python.

    Hey man great video. So quick question, for this lizard, if you keeps it’s enclosure outside would you still need heating pads and be mindful about temperature? I live in South Florida so it’s similar to its natural environment.

    I have a question so I had a huge pentagon tank and I’m planning to make half of it water but I don’t know how to add a land feature in the middle for it to stand on and I’m also adding a extra top part for it to clubs to bask above but I need help adding the land feature obove the water like what materials are okay to go under water to hold it up? My only thing I’m thinking of is using pvc pipes tounchinng the bottom with them making a square type of land with a beach that goes 3ft up to its basking spot
