"why does michigan have terrible roads?" we have been asking this forever. it's horrible :( glad you liked Bigby though!
I would guess corruption
@@girlingoldboots5273 It's actually not. It's to do with the fact that Michigan has a *lot* of roads, but not a lot of people. It's got a *lot* of infrastructure, but pretty low density of infrastructure.
Which means there are many towns in michigan where for example, if they need to replace the sewage system, it would cost the town the entire years wages of everyone in it. They've just got too many suburbs. Suburbs are great at first, government subsidizes the building, new money floods in, then they're cheap enough to maintain *until* the roads need resurfacing. And the sanitation systems need changing. Etc... However, there's no more money coming in from new home purchases, and no federal subsidies to pay for it.
So any money that gets saved gets spent trying to keep that infrastructure alive. Starting with the most vital (gas heating, sanitation, the roads rich people use), and then spreading out to the least vital (gas heating, sanitation and roads for the poor people)
The problem is, there isn't enough money for everything. So they hold off resurfacing for a few years to actually save up the funds to do so.
@@deathhimself1653 your poor cars my heart goes out to those poor struts and tye rods...in which will need realignment every fluffing year probably
Litearlly the truth. We live on the Michigan/Indiana boarder, and as soon as you cross over, the roads smooth out.
California has really bad roads some are so old they are gray not black
The first thing that popped into my mind as soon as you said you needed a name was Mai Tai, for Madi and Tyler helping you bring him home.
Thats so cute! Seconded!
That's clever!!!!
Love this one ☺️
I love this :) also bc its a fruity drink that's colorful like him too.
Yes! It meets all the criteria!
Thanks for visiting! So glad to watch the little dude grow up with you guys.
Remind us to take you down the bad dirt roads next time you visit! 🥴😂
hi just past your comment wanted to say hi so
Ahhh so excited to watch the little guy grow up! I love that he got to go to the best possible home he could end up in 🥰 and yeah Michigan roads are the absolute worst…next time you’re here we’ll have to take you down the dirt roads 🤠
Gratiot county roads are the worst that I have encountered.
You should visit their zoo
I think you should get a Rubber boa, they are native to Wyoming, for the zoo because they are a therapy snake to help people get rid of their fear of snakes
Thanks for sharing this bit of info! I'd never even heard of a rubber boa
@@edibleknowledge4716 wait wait if someone gets a rubber boa can we name it rubber band?
Good idea! I love rubber boas, I currently have a kenyan sand boa.
I second that, they are neat snakes, they only breed I think every 4 or 5 years
I this it would be a great idea!
I saw him and immediately thought of a mango 🥭 🦎 I think that would be an incredible name! I can’t wait to watch him grow. That is the most incredible enclosure, I’m totally blown away…it’s just absolutely stunning 🤩 He is one very lucky lizard 🦎
Yes MANGO IS SUCH A GOOD NAME
Yass
yes
👍
Mango is rlly common though so papaya would be awesome too!
Mamy papaya
You should name him Ammolite after the gemstone. They have a green and orange appearance and are often called “Canadas Opal,”. The gems form from fossilized shells also!
I love that so much!
Omg seeing Emily and Ed going to Michigan and trying bigby is so cool! I’ve lived here all my life and the comment about the roads is hilarious.
My first thought for a name was mango, but Aelius would be cool too. Its ancient roman for sun, since he looks kinda like a sunrise/sunset in a forest vibe for me.
I think the name Mango would be great because of his green and orange colors!
Great name idea!
Brian B has one called mango too xx
MANGO
Me to
Yea mango
Name him, Miles, in honor of the miles it took to bring him home.
This should have more likes and comments
That's alot better than the top comment "mAnGo"
@@dreeew141 “but- but its green and orange 🥺🥺”
@alastari shut up miles is a good name
Hey there! Recent Patron, loving seeing all the new animals and can’t wait to actually visit you guys (hopefully) in the summer!
Also name suggestion- what about Leviathan? He’s small now, but one day he’ll grow to a huge, semi-aquatic sea monster! Lol
hi i am goying to all of the comments without replys
And Levi for short!
Patreon *
@@notjoroblox No, it’s patron. They’re subscribed to their patreon, but they are themselves a patron.
Gorgeous mini water dragon! Them colours! He's an absolute beauty. Levi, short for Leviathan might be one.
A lot of people suggested Mango, but I do prefer more complex names, so I really like Leviathan more XD
This is a pretty cool name ^^
that'd actually be pretty cool, ngl, especially cause the leviathan was a water animal
Oh I love that
I was thinking Galeus, (means lizard in Greek,) or Gale for short. Good suggestion, I love the mythological reference!
"The Caiman lizard is a tegu-crocodile hybrid that a wizard would make." - Clint's Reptiles
Maybe Gandalf? :) What a magical creature.
Gandalf the rainbow 😂
@@amandafernandez7111 saruman of many colours
Or Wizard the Lizard xD
As someone from Michigan I loved seeing some familiarity (sorry about the roads). He's a truly gorgeous lizard.
It's so awesome that you guys have your own amazing zoo now! I discovered you by accident thanks to my two girls who are in love with reptiles and showed me your videos. It's been really great to see you make your dreams come true. Maybe some day we'll make the journey from AZ to come visit. My girls would lose their minds! 💜
Emily: "McDonald's fries are my guilty pleasure"
Also Emily: Has (almost) never been seen eating anything but snacks and chocolate😂
I guess crickets are just a snack! 😅
It's just one of her many guilty pleasures...
Ah, but she doesn't feel guilty about eating those!
Last video I watched she did get Ed to drive somewhat out of the way to go to Buc-ees and get like four bags of junk food from them. Good looking junk food too. As a Canadian nowhere near a Buc-ees, am jealous now :P
@@Lowlandlord Same, those snacks look soooooooo good!
I love how Emily always refers to when Ed does something as "we did something." My mom always does the same thing with my dad, and it's always super funny lol. He doesn't mind tho. They almost enjoy each other's company too much 😆
He's already my favorite, I've been in love with Caiman Lizards since I saw them on Clint's channel and maybe in 10 years I'll be ready for one.
He looks like a little pistachio and I think that would be a cute name for him💚
Emily: Yay road trip
Ed: 12 hour road trip
Emily: Ya-"realisation setting in" ayyy...
“Why is MI roads so bad?”
Me, a Michigander: *laughs and starts crying*
Seriously tho, love the vid! It was cool to see some familiar sights during the trip 💙
They haven't seen anything, as a Michigander who lives on dirt/back roads they havent seen anything. But in agree love the vid!!!💚💚💚💚🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Lol same
Two words, Lori Lightfoot
@@zbn898 love your icon lol!
@@Lillpixeychic thx so much! I drew the person in it lol!
This is one of my favorite reptiles ever. In my herpetology study group I was shown this genus (Dracaena) for the first time, and I could not have been more in love with an animal, literally the main reason I study biology is this animal and every other reptile out there, I just love them so much
“He’s gonna be a great new family member.” He was never mentioned again.😂
I was inspired to do some research on the Caiman Lizard and found out that the scientific genus is Dracaena. I think Drac would be a great name to reflect this. Emily is such a great advocate for in-depth learning. I really appreciate that :)
Or sense Emily loves Harry Potter they could name it draco.
I think would be funny if they put a fake dracaena plant or real one.
@@amberemken4855 that's also really good!!
When she said the colors often brighten as they age I nearly dropped my spoon because he's already one of the brightest lizards Ive ever seen!
what were you eating?
And now I need an excuse to book the room just so I can see em
This enclosure looks so beautiful! It'll be so exciting seeing him grow into it. And I definitely second the idea of naming him Mitch; as Nicole Curren suggested! Mitch, from Michigan :D
Emily I am so happy for you! This is my dream lizard too. I got to hold one at NARBC a couple years ago and it just reinforced me wanting one! Please show him on the channel alot! So happy for you!
My daughter Elise thinks he should be named Mitch, because you got him from Michigan. 😁💕 He’s gorgeous! And Elise loooovvvveees Snake Discovery!!
I agree, it seems like a good name
Due to your daughter loving snake discovery, maybe she’d like to know my snakes name is her name! ❤️
goodnamegoodname
sorow
I also love this idea!
When I saw the name suggestions for “Mango,” I immediately knew what you were getting. Such spectacular lizards. Beautiful and, so I’ve heard, personable with handling. I can’t wait to see him grow up with you guys.
as a fellow michigander i can relate, some roads are so bad i get whiplash
Name him Riddle or Jigsaw maybe even Puzzle! He looks like he’s trying to find things out and he’s very colorful. Congrats guys 🙂
I think that “Rheo” or “Rheno” would be a good name, it’s original, and it sounds exotic.
Although it doesn’t mean anything in a separate language, it still sounds awsome.
I do like me a cool-sounding name.
The mollies are a great pick for that setup . Constantly making more of themselves. he is definitely going to keep the population under control.
i agree the mollys are a great edition
I like the name Yoshi. The colors of the character are kinda similar to the lizard. Yoshi has orange shoes with a green body and the lizard has an orange head and a green body,
Yay!!! In love how everything really looked, I just thought to meditate watching it and hearing the water falling lol so beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
I have been so afraid of lizards an snakes my entire life until I started watching your show.
Thank you so much. For helping me with my fear.
As a Michigander, we’ve ALWAYS had terrible roads lol. I’m glad i moved away so i dont have to deal with it. Have had a few cars get eaten. What a cool lizard, he’ll be so happy with you guys!
This state definitely has the worst roads. At least everyone knows to go at least 10 over. I’m moving asap 😂
See how his appetite is ambitious maybe call him pothole. these michigan roads will eat a car
About the roads, sad but true 😑
haven't had the time nor resources to move away yet, but my mom just lost 3 tires and 2 rims to a monster pot hole on i-75. At least the state has some loss recovery for damage from potholes. Congrats on getting out!
It still my fav state. It is really really pretty there.
those are definitely becoming more popular now and glad to hear people are successfully captive breeding them .... anyways great lizard for the zoo 🥰🎉 congrats to yall 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for not spoiling the species
He's absolutely stunning, and so cute! Like a baby dragon. I'm so excited for you guys!
MANGO!!! I think that his name should be mango cause he looks like one! 😆 ❤ I'm so glad you got your dream lizard, enjoy it!
hi i am goying to all of the comments without replys
Congrats on the new member to the snake discovery family!, such a unique species. My name suggestions are Mango, Papaya, Persimmon, or Hala (Hala fruit, I think it matches his color and appearance) because of his coloration.
Papaya! 😊
@@melissajarvis4829 I second papaya!
Brock, for some reason, is a name that feels good to me. Blocky head, strong jaws, kind of rocky looking with the back scales. If he were a Pokemon, I could see Brock training him.
I love that you guys were responsible and didn't get one until you knew you could provide a good enclosure for it and all the right food! I know its the bare minimum, but it's still refreshing to see with so many people just getting exotic reptiles for fun nowadays
omg this enclosure is beautiful! I am so jealous. I have a crestie and African Dwarf Frogs and I have actual dreams of keeping both species in one enclosure. I would love to make it a reality one day somehow if possible/safe. And your new lizard is gorgeous. Seems like a sweetie.
That is the cutest lizard I've ever seen! I hope we all get to watch him grow as well! I'd love to see him become friendlier and more handleable as time goes on!
Would also love to see any progress pics you have of that setup, that thing is *sweet*!
I have been watching this channel for years now, I just want to thank you for being such a positive space for everyone in this community! I’m so proud of how far Snake Discovery has come and can’t wait to see where it takes you guys in the future!
Extremely agree how great it is that SD is so positive as well as being so educational and hardworking!
Yeah, this channel makes me very happy I would be very very sad if yall quit
I think Autumn would be a super cool name, his coloring reminds me of leaves in the fall!
Omg what a cutie! Love his chonky head, and i can see where they get their name, very awesome Lizard i'm so glad you got him!
For the lizard’s name, i think naming it after a multi-colored gemstone would be neat! A few personal suggestions are Tourmaline, Agate, and Ammolite.
Edit: the replies also have great suggestions!
I was thinking Abalone it’s pronounced: a • bah • low • nee. It is a type of marine snail 🐌
I like unique names 😂
oooh thats a great idea, ill also add in zultanite based on his colours
That would be super cute!
Or Ametrine!
fluorite
His colors remind me of a mango. I think Mango would be a really cute name!
Yes!!!
Gorgeous colors! The best combination of tree leaf green and sunset orange I have every seen, so pretty 😍
I agree mango would be a perfect name he’s adorable. I am concerned about the enclosure size because he’s still so tiny. Might want to Put a little ramp or something in the water just in case. Will look forward to the updates congratulations!
hi i am goying to all of the comments without replys
He's color reminds me of mango so why not call him Mango if it's a male 🙂 love your video by the way, I've been watching them for years now 😊❤
Yes! That’s exactly what I was thinking.
@@jeanabonny9981 thanks 😊
OOOHHH mango! I love them so much, my family has a mango tree.
Yes!!
I like this name a lot.
9:04 He realised he'd be perfectly camouflaged on that tablecloth! 😂🦎🌿
he was
My kids suggested Jazzy...we were there for a birthday party a few weeks ago when he was just introduced to his new home!
Its awesome what you guys do and what this channel turned into. Love your content!
The amount of effort these two have to get just one reptile is insane, I always watch the videos where they get new reptiles. They’re always going on road trips for reptiles. I appreciate the amount of effort put into these videos.
Apple or Blossom could be a cute name for the little guy since Michigan’s state flower is the apple blossom 🌸
My dad's from MI, he always thought that's just how roads were until he moved away in his teens. He was shocked that roads aren't supposed to be horrendous and most other people had normal roads
This is crazy! I learned about mollusks in science class yesterday and now you're talking about them this is why science is my favorite subject.
Oh, he’s adorable! I can see why you’ve wanted one for so long!! My name suggestion is Miles, because you had to drive so many miles to get him!
Name suggestions- He's huffy but could learn to be friendly. So the geek in me says Smaug, as he was quite huffy but still struct up a casual convo with Bilbo AND he lived by laketown. Semi-aquatic. :)
OML, I REMEMBER WATCHING YOU WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. IM SO GLAD YOU STILL POST😭
We need to see more of this guy! I would love to see how big he's going!
The way Ed looks at Emily around 8:00 is so sweet. I want someone who looks at me like that.
Yes. I said to myself "that's a man in love". I just love to see people who are genuinely happy in their relationship.
A lot of people are saying to name him Mango, and YES! His colours would match perfectly with the name Mango!
He's so cute! ^w^
hi i am goying to all of the comments without replys
As a Michigander paramedic I can confirm our roads are VERY bumpy lol. Partially due to the weather (freezing and thawing) and partially due to the trucking rules being less stringent on weight and wheels needed. This time of year is awful for roads
Ed.. Suuurrreee lmao I know that feeling. I drove from Jacksonville FL all the way to AZ just over the Texas line none stop. I never got tired. My car was super comfy and rained the whole way.
He should be named Mango because his/her head looks like a ripe mango.
Brian B has one called mango too xxx
I also thought that! and another person, too! There's problaly many people who thought that, but I do think it's a good name.
Some sort of pepper for a name would be cool. Jalapeño or related. I totally get mango but having worked in a bird store where every other lovebird (and some non lovebirds) were named Mango I feel they deserve something more unique.
Love that "We hate the color purple" gets the color purple during the patreon names thing
Thanks to this channel I dive in to the reptile world
Omg! He's absolutely adorable! Maybe you could give him a tropical sounding name since he looks like a tropical fruit with his gorgeous orange and green coloring! Maybe something like Mango or papaya?
He's going to grow to be big and strong, and his home is the water. My two name suggestions are Kraken and Neptune
Neptune is a way cool name
Agree! Neptune old be my pick :)
Love these guys! Ive met really beautiful and tame Caiman lizards. They are fond of cat perches LOL.
For feeder crayfish set up a tank of self cloning crayfish, you heard me correctly there are crayfish that can produce offspring without a mate
I’d name him Bowie! He’s so colourful and will probably have a very vibrant personality so it would suit him wonderfully!
Yaaaas
If you liked the coffee that much I feel like you might need to name this guy Biggby in honor of the trip and his place of origin 😅
I’m excited you tried Biggby! I’ve been frequenting since they were called Beaners! And yes, MI is known for its terrible roads.
I wish I knew you were coming to Michigan! Iid be so psyched to meet you two!
I grew up in MI (but now live in KY), the roads are one of those "Michigan things" like the UP and Biggby.... gods i miss Biggby. I always think its funny how the roads immediately change once you cross the state line.
I like Apricot. I hope we viewers get to see the enclosure every now and then...because...THAT ENCLOSURE!!!! I agree with Emily this time Ed, breakfast foods are best!!
Finally, you guys came to my home state! Let's go Michigan State!
Yes, our roads suck but we have a lot of great reptile spots like the Reptarium, Preuss Pets, Lou's, and Josh's Frogs. It's a trade off I'd willingly accept. Plus we have our own season in Michigan called, "Construction Season"
Ok hear me out, Kai
The Name in Hawaiian means “sea”
And in Japanese it means “shell”
Since he’s a semiaquatic reptile I feel as though a name related to the water would be perfect for him
It’s also short for the name Kaimbe, which means “warrior” in the Frisian roots
He also just looks like a frikin dragon, and the name kai for a dragon, it just fits
I feel like Yoshi would be a great name for him , you guys did such an amazing job with the enclosure for him , sooooo beautiful 😍🥰 I'm already in love with the new lizard and Shelly OMG we also can't wait to see more of Shelly and Justin the Timber snake
Yoshi would be super cute!
IDEA TIME!!!! I think a milk frog care video would be cool!
As a huge fan of fries, I approve of Emily's snack grab. xD He's a beautiful lizard and so graceful in the water.
So cool to see you got a new lizard, he's adorable! I have a few name suggestions for him:
Huron - like the great lake near (roughly) where you got him,
Mangrove - like the semiaquatic tree,
Reed - like some plants that live in the wetlands where Northern Caiman lizards are found?
Have a great day, I'm excited to see him in the future!
Emily and Ed, you two are so adorable! Couples goals, right there! For the newbie lizard, since his species lives in Colombia, how about "Agustin", or "Luis" or "Alejandro" ?
I can answer you Michigan question, I live here 😅
It’s because since we have the Great Lakes, we are vulnerable to the freezing and thawing cycle, at least some of us are. This can mess with the roads and will cause erosion, leading to pot holes… many many pot holes. What’s funny is we even have a ice cream called Michigan pot hole. Also, we are known for the Auto-Industry and water. I hope this helps!!
-A Michigander
(The lizard is super cute too)
Ooooooh, a Caiman! Well, I hope I'll be able to stop by the zoo and see him someday. They are so cool. I love the colours too!
aaaaah, he's so lovely! Definitely worth waiting for, his enclosure is stunning too. For his name, I like Monty.
Minnesota is known for the Juicy Lucy (if you like cheese lol) you can recommend the Blue Door Pub for the home of them.
Also, omg this guy is so cute! What about a fruit name like Mango or Kiwi because of his colors?
hi i am goying to all of the comments without replys
That lizard looks more like a dinosaur than any other reptile I've seen. He's gorgeous ❤
Welcome to Mi ! Sorry about our roads--- We do love it here !!!!
I live in Michigan! Glad to hear you got a lizard from here. I can’t wait to visit the zoo soon!!
I would love if you named him mortimer! I’ve seen some funky lookin’ mortimer’s before, and i think it’d be a wonderful name for him!
Wow he's amazing! Great enclosure too!
Kai, Mou, Topas, Haku, Mushu, Draconis, Vedic, Ronald, Steve/Steven, Nagini. Those are just some names, also hello to Ed and Emily if you read this!
Also, fun fact Nagini means serpent or water lizard. And if these names aren't for him, an idea of mine is to name if after a Pokémon!
