Robert Plant always seemed wise and gentle. Maybe he didn't know it in his 20's. He has had an easy going sensible demeanor since the first interview I saw him do in the '70's. I admire this man so much (and the head of hair he had in his 20's!... EDIT: he still has great hair! )
He's a better interviewer than most who have had Robert Plant as a guest. Sincere, respectful, and asks the right questions without sounding like a jerk. Good job.
Robert Bykowski Nonsense. I am referring to a 'frontman vocalist' of course, Elvis is in his own category and is easily the most influential musician in history. John Lennon does not fit this category and I disagree, with respect to Jagger. No frontman is more emulated, and consequently, more influential than Plant. Plant spawned generations of vocalists who emulated his vocal style and panache, particularly those in the 80s
Plant's influence as a front man vocalist essentially ended with the '80s. The next generation didn't grow up on Led Zeppelin and could not have cared less. Name a '90s era vocalist who emulated Plant -- aside from possibly Chris Cornell one can't.
He's great. He's been around for a long time. He used to do a punk show on Much Music in the day. That's our Canadian version of MTV back then. He went on to work for CBC in some form or another and ended up with his own show. He is great. He asks intelligent and interesting questions. Robert Plant is so open minded with music. Love what he said about punk.
It is amazing, my friend and I were listening to the second album just the other day, they perform with the confidence of seasoned pro's with decades of experience, meanwhile, they were in their early 20's. Easy to forget that.
The most amazing thing about him is that after all he has experienced he knows his current line up and last two albums are not even remotely interesting to most of us who have followed his journey yet he does it anyway.
Technically speaking, he had n't released those albums, Jimmy had. As in, Zeppelin was Jimmy's band especially up untill Houses of the Holy. He was the band leader, visionary and a producer.

Young man does a fine job on the interview, not easy, he keeps his bounds but asks interesting questions. So many interviewers are dolts but he does this with much respect, kudos.
Brian Bullard - George's interviewing skills have improved over the years. He used to be too much of a fanboy but now he listens well and integrates the research effectively.
Robert Plant has more integrity than most rock stars. Yes, I would love to see him sing with Page and Jones, but I saw him last year in a week when I also saw Aerosmith and Black Sabbath. No prizes for guessing who provided the most interesting show. For the record, Sabbath were exactly what you would expect and Aerosmith played a great rock and roll show. Plant, however, played an interesting, progressive show that also rocked. All power to him.
No tattoos. No make-up. No vulgar language. Only the most notorious history of backstage sexual antics and taking advantage of underage groupies of any band that ever existed. Jimmy Page had a long standing relationship with a groupie who was 14 when he met her. Any average person would have a record and would have been doing time for that one.

He's become old ( or rather matured) in the sense that he doesn't act like he hasn't"aged" and that makes me respect him even more. Zeppelin had their time and have ( so far) chosen to remember the past and cherish it, but are thankfully not trapped there. They don't want to become a "nostalgia act" and chose to remain relevant. So many bands just try to hang on to old glories ( I'm talking to you Deep Purple or whoever you guys are now). His solo stuff clearly shows that he loves music and is so ooen to change and challenging musical styles. His Raising Sand album is one of the most haunting things I have ever heard.
Well put. Don't forget those yahoos who have the audacity to call themselves "Lynyrd Skynyrd." One original member out of 7 and still only known for what the original band did in the 70s.
GodfatherInOhio My opinion, and I'll likely catch some heat for this, is the Stones never put out anything worth listening to. Of course, that's an opinion.
Yes I completely agree! My dad, they've been his favorite band his whole life (he's 63 now), is angry and frustrated that they won't go on tour again and robert won't sing with them, and I try to explain to him that i'm SO GLAD they don't. I mean, I'd cut off my left arm to see them in concert even once, but more than anything I don't want zeppelin to force the music and chip away at what they were in the past - their legacy. It's undeniable that Plant's voice isn't what it once was, Page/Jones would tone down their power/improvisation, and Jason(although the greatest substitute) is not his father. So I agree with Robert when he says he wants to keep the past in the past and not play shows just for the money, or because they can.
the other consideration to applaud Plant is this... they were offered an ungodly sum to go back on tour. That would mean large stadiums and even larger ticket prices (face value alone. Scalped prices? Forget about it) no one could afford to go. Instead he turned that down and plays shows to smaller audiences. I saw him with the Sensational Space Shifters play a small outdoor amphitheater in 2015. It was a fantastic show in an intimate setting that didn't cost me a mortgage payment to see. (even offered lawn seating on Groupon for $15). Now THAT is a working class hero.
Great interview with such a legendary but genuine artist who forges on and evolves with his music. I love all his solo adventures and never tire of his voice. He may not have the vocal range of his 20's but his music is always interesting and ever changing. Still has the magic and charm of his youth at 65...love the progressiveness of his life philosophies. Rock on Percy!
Not surprised that RP comes across in this excellent (but MUCH too short) interview as charming, modest and witty. Met him in the Led Zep office in about '75 when they were at their peak. All the band were there. We had a few drinks and then RP looks over at me with a wink and says, "well, gotta go home now and write some more pseudo-spiritual lyrics!"
+Sage Sealy Very briefly. Not much more than "hallo." I gave him a cigar - he was happy about that. Have chatted with JPJ a few times, and once played darts with Bonham in his hotel room. Probably spent the most time hanging out with their manager Peter Grant. OK, that's enough name-dropping! ;)
It's taken me a long time to understand Robert Plant. He could be playing stadiums with Zeppelin but instead marches forward rather than back around and down the same road again. He's very clear about this at the end of the interview, he can't be "any of the guys he used to be." The world would love, and pay very large to replay the past, and he just wants to go forward. Perhaps is best to remember Zeppelin for what they were.
Well said. From someone who saw them in 1977, I'm happy he's happy. That said , I'm seeing the Stones in a few weeks, and am happy about that, too. Though the path may change sometimes...
When I look at "one of those photos" I think to myself "what an incredible young man", and there's no reason to be embarrassed at all. I was too young to attend a Led Zeppelin concert back in the 70s but my brother did and he will brag about it until the day he dies.

Happy B-day Robert, I doubt you ever look at this stuff but if you ever do know that i look at the music news daily on the internet hoping for my dream of seeing a reunion tour with Jimmy JPJ and Jason. When i was 20yrs old in the Army and in Izmir Turkey i picked up the Stars and Stripes and on the front page was the death of Bonzo. At that time In through the outdoor had just came out and i know a tour would have come soon after, my loss. All said and done you are and have been my idol since 1972 from zeppelin to band of joy i wanna thank you for all of your music. If the tour ever happens ill be there and if it dosnt it dosnt. Have a great Birthday and once again Thank you for all youve done for music. John
Go check him out in 1994. Ego was rampant. Some of the pressers from Page/Plant. Robert was insufferable and overcompensating because of Jimmy being there.
I would have been fine knowing that, at some point in time, somewhere in the world there was the seductive Robert Plant moaning into microphones on stages, but this witty, unpretentious character (able to be so nonchalant about his past, yet introspective) that he's also become.. is absolutely fetching!
Yeah, I'm 60 yrs. old and saw them twice, while in High School It was different, I think because of no music video, they held such a mystique. We just listened, shutting down all other senses.Just say'n, yeah, when we finally saw them live, it was quite emotional. search: The Truth Explodes.
Hes one of the best ever in my opinion, not just because he was part of Zeppelin but just his energy, his lyrics, his voice, hes like a magician evoking sounds of the past brought to the present, to me its like Zeppelin were in a league of their own, listening to them raises your consciousness.
They couldn't write lyrics to save their lives. Comparing their lyrics to those of people like Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, Dylan, Springsteen, Pete Townshend and Ray Davies shows how weak Zeppelin was in that department. All they wrote about was mystical lands and cosmic energy when they weren't stealing blues songs and claiming them as their own. I mean, c'mon, compare Zeppelin's lyrics to songs like "Eleanor Rigby", "Sympathy for the Devil", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Tangled Up In Blue", "Darkness on the Edge of Town" or "Waterloo Sunset". No comparison.

Robert dressed to the left by the way. Hahaha! This is a fantastic interview! One of the best I've ever seen with Robert Plant at this point in his life. "Just give me bigger maps." I love it! What a character he is! This man is a rock Icon in my estimation. I admire him, and tha'ts putting it lightly. I watch anything and everything I can about this man because of Led Zeppelin, but he's gone on to do so much more, and he's an inspiration!
I remember George back when he was working for Much Music in Toronto, and always brought intelligence and humour to his interviews. He is very good at his job, and you could tell Robert enjoyed this as well. Robert is a true Rock Icon. He was always a class act with eloquent and intelligent language, and superb talent. He is also especially handsome and well aged.
As far as interview hosts go, Stroumboulopoulos pays 100% undivided attention and makes full eye-contact, it's amazing. I also think he's intelligent too. Stephen Colbert is also a great interview. High praise for George Stroumboulopoulos and Stephen Colbert
He´s a a Black Country Bloke : Still has the accent, still has the house, still supports and is involved with Wolves,. (football team) he used to play local clubs (post Zep) and one night when a tribute band called Fred Zeppelin were playing he showed up and scared the hell out of them ! When they had done their set he said "That guy did me better than Me!" Haha, Black Country! We can move away but we will never leave .

I love this interview! Robert Plant is charming, witty, and playful.
He's still very handsome
John
What a great interview Plant is. A smart in-depth guy.
this guy's facial expressions and eye contact he makes good connection with the interviewer
Greg Dahlen His eyes are very clear and bright. I think he is a very honest and very naughty boy! ;-)
+morganfisherart ...More naught than honest. Lol!!
morganfisherart it's good to be honest
A legend in his own time. Always inspiring, charming and super cool. He has to be one the most gorgeous men who ever lived
A Legend for ALL time!
Mega Star minus the ego = Robert Plant
@Timothy Gray no he's not lol
Go check him out in 1994. Ego was rampant. Some of the pressers from Page/Plant. Robert was insufferable and overcompensating because of Jimmy being there.
@@kewu89.53 Well, in any case, if that were true, that was TWENTY years before this interview, Chuck. TWENTY years is a looong time, Chuck.
@Timothy Gray why you here then goofy?
I HATE ROBERTO PIANTA
Such a gentle voice! But when he sings the lion roars. Our very own Golden God of rock!!
I could listen to him talk for ever 💛
I love George's interviews. He's very warm and personable...asks decent questions.
I love his positive attitude. :)
Hes one of the best ever in my opinion, not just because he was part of Zeppelin but just his energy, his lyrics, his voice, hes like a magician evoking sounds of the past brought to the present, to me its like Zeppelin were in a league of their own, listening to them raises your consciousness.
Ikr
Pam Stewart Whats Ikr??
+irishelk It stands for 'I know right' :)
@@robertbykowski1398 alot of their early work was a bit adolescent in writing lyrics but they progressed and came up with better serious lyrics
Well Percy, you've certainly changed the musical world. And no one has topped you since. Good on ya
Sir Robert, what a beautiful spirit and true gentleman .
A Genius with class! i Just Love this guy!!!
I never saw him interviewed before and I was very pleasantly surprised at how open and charismatic he was/is.
Always so honest, humerous, best Rock vocalist of all time. Lovely georgeous , good looking guy... Always Such funny stories ..Always makes me laugh...fascinating life you have led Robert...generously shared with us lot...What a great interview...always so humble..about his achievements....eloquent , hilarious cool sexy guy...Love you Robert Plant...xxxx
I absolutely love this interview and this man! He has so much charm and personality!
Not only did he have a great voice, but he is one of the best lyricous that ever was.
Once he got the hang of it, sure, but those first two Led Zeppelin albums are chock full of silly lyrics.
ROBER PLANT IS THE BIG LEGEND OF THE ROCK !!!
I did not expect Robert to have such a great wicked sense of humor....awesome!!!
The Golden God RULES!!!!!!! Thank you Robert for all you have done :-) ROCK ON!!!!!!!
Wow, great interview. And what a lovely, creative, metaphorical personality!
No idea who this gent is that did the interview but he nailed it. Well played!
This interview was way too short.
I watched this again today 4/24/24. RP has evolved and continues to evolve; his new music, Raise the Roof, then Raising Sand, superb. He's going to continue giving his fans what they want... music ❤😊
Its really nice to listen to an interview with Robert Plant.
I ❤❤❤ this man, he’s brilliant and has a great sense of humor - Robert Plant!🎤😎😉🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Robert Anthony Plant. The man. The legend.
Fronted the greatest rock band in history like a titanium-throated demigod. We love you Percy!
I liked those questions he asked Robert at the end of this video, the answers were really very good and funny.
As far as interview hosts go, Stroumboulopoulos pays 100% undivided attention and makes full eye-contact, it's amazing. I also think he's intelligent too. Stephen Colbert is also a great interview. High praise for George Stroumboulopoulos and Stephen Colbert
Very Very Smart Man
He´s a a Black Country Bloke : Still has the accent, still has the house, still supports and is involved with Wolves,. (football team) he used to play local clubs (post Zep) and one night when a tribute band called Fred Zeppelin were playing he showed up and scared the hell out of them ! When they had done their set he said "That guy did me better than Me!" Haha, Black Country! We can move away but we will never leave .
Classy and a legend.
My favorite rock singer of all times, he lifts me up when I'm down, and he gives me life when I need a swift kick in the ass. May God bless you, Robert, for bringing all the love in the universe.
Μεγάλη ‘’η Χάρη σου’’ αγόρι μου να παίρνεις ή να σου δίνει συνέντευξη ο Mr. Robert Plant!
