- Robert Plant is the eternal Golden God. He continues to forge a path as an itinerant troubadour, staggering forth after realizing that at 32-years-old, Led Zeppelin was over. On his latest album, 'Carry Fire' he digs into "new worlds" as he described, “I rejoice in my previous work but must continue the journey to new worlds, after all there are so many songs that are yet to be written." In a conversation at the House Of Strombo, they run the gamut of his storied life and career - from the impact that traveling to Morocco had at 22-years-old to the spark Radiohead shifted in his musical approach to turning down a role in Game Of Thrones and beyond.
The Strombo Show / House of Strombo is the home of the best records played in the best order, from the 1-2-3-4 to the 808's and beyond. For over two decades, George Stroumboulopoulos has been working on behalf of you to find and champion the songs that'll get you through the night. Interviews, intimate sessions and out-of-its-mind full blown house concerts. The Strombo Show reflects the beautiful and the badass of Canada's diverse cultural landscape. There are no boundaries, with the gamut running from Aretha Franklin to Slayer and everything in between.
We have welcomed many musical guests onto the program, including major international artists like A.R. Rahman, Against Me!, Alice Cooper, Ani DiFranco, Anthrax, Bill Murray, Bjork, Bonnie Raitt, Charles Bradley, The Cult, De La Soul, Diana Krall, Dinosaur Jr., DMC, Dolly Parton, Elvis Costello, Gene Simmons, Ghostface Killah, Grandmaster Flash, James Franco, James Hetfield of Metallica, The Kills, Lady Gaga, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Little Stevie Van Zandt, Loretta Lynn, Maynard James Keenan of TOOL, Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, Missy Elliott, Mix Master Mike, Moby, The National, Neko Case, Patti Smith, Queens of the Stone Age, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Robbie Robertson, Saul Williams, Slowdive, SPOON, Steve Earle, Thurston Moore and Vampire Weekend; Canadian talent such as A Tribe Called Red, Alexisonfire, ARKELLS, BadBadNotGood, Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo, City And Colour, Coeur de pirate, Death From Above 1979, Gordon Lightfoot, Joel Plaskett, Rheostatics, RUSH, STARS, Tegan & Sara and The Tragically Hip; emerging acts that include Courtney Barnett, Dilly Dally, Father John Misty, Jazz Cartier, Jessie Reyez, Kate Tempest, Leon Bridges, Lowell, The Lemon Twigs, Mac Demarco, Margo Price, Partner, Pussy Riot, Sampha, Thundercat and The XX.

I think Strombo is one of the best rock and roll interviewers I've ever seen.
I'm surprised people used to perceive him as arrogant or full of himself. He's always been an enlightened man. He treats life as a big silly show where his ego and soul dont seem to be affected. He reminds me of my grandfather, a man who lived to the age of 93. To his last day he was a student of life. Bless you Robert and please keep quoting your lyrics it's beautifully silly
... and I so hope he outlives your grandfather and keeps being a student of life.

Oh, I think in the early days, he may have gotten a bit full of himself, but who wouldn't? I certainly have never heard anyone say anything bad about Plant at all. Even in 1977 when that big ordeal went down in Oakland between Zeppelin's security and Bill Graham's security people, one guy said that "Plant was the only decent human being there" which I took to mean that since he tried to smooth things over and apologize to everyone.
I got into a fight with someone who called him the Devil 😈 incarnate. She was a silly human and is out of touch with reality. 😂😂😂😂😂 Love the most recent ensemble with songbird Alison and et. al.
I'm not. But, on stage he did ask for ' "the name of that chick' who was good", at the end of his tour with Alison Krauss, who you know lent him immense credibility after Zep had been left by the wayside. The 'chick' ? Name them. Alison Richards, Kelly Lee, Florence and the Machine, Ingrid Michelson....
he's not only a great musician, but a philosopher, a poet, a man connected with reality and with an enormous capacity of love with a brilliant sense of humor. What an incredible human being! I admired him as the front leader of Led Zeppelin (the best of all the times), but I admire him so much more now! He's amazing!
clotclotclot So true!
he's always been a philosopher and poet my friend. Being interested in the many facets of life directly translated into the beauty and depth of their music
Get off your knees FFS.
His a clever man

We need way more Robert in this world, not just through his music, but through his voice. Robert, you make an excellent speaker, author, etc. I think the missing piece is perhaps beyond music. You are such a source of inspiration. I would love to read books about your thoughts, experiences, philosophies, and more. You would be a NY bestseller, etc.
Agreed.
I could listen to Robert Plant talk all day ever day. Even in conversation he is poetic, intriguing and mysterious. I love how he continues to experiment with different musical instruments, sounds and in different styles of singing but yet he still sounds like classic Robert Plant. My generation was blessed to have pioneering musicians and artists.🥰
He is so true to his art, not in it for anything else other than his fulfilment, we are lucky to get a peek in. I just always find throughout it his career he has brought me music I never knew that I needed. And now can’t do without it. It’s so worth following his journey and all of the interesting nuances and places he can take you.. he really is an artist
Lord, I love this man's heart and soul, intelligence...and sense of humour!!!
Robert Plant is a very intelligent human being...and a great singer too...
Beyond what we will ever understand. The world would be a better place if he was in charge.
John P M
What?
Yes he is very intelligent and down to earth person.
Great singer ? His vocals are out of this world...
There is only one Robert Plant! God help all us girls who saw him Live in the 1970's...we were never, ever the same! ;-) Still making us crazy, Ramble On! xxx
Dallas, 1970 or 71... 14 years young, rock and roll w LZ! The rush! Oh my God!
How I wish I lived on that day. 😭😭😤
Could have listened to him for hours. Time stood still. A true poet.
I can't imagine just being in the same room with him like this and listening to him talk about his experiences. A living legend.
I love how respectful the Canadian crowd is, they are quiet and absorbing the vibe....George you are the best.
Best front man to ever strut a stage
Fan of Led Zeppelin since '69 - what a treat to chat with Robert Plant! Great interview, thoughtful questions - thank you George and team.
Sane here. Fan since October of 1969... So agree... North American radio is shite.
All the interviewers I’ve seen interview Plant have had no idea what they’re talking about and don’t know how to act. This guys does. THIS is how you interview Robert Plant. Politeness, down-to-earth connection, getting on his level and making sure that he is comfortable. Just the little things like offering a drink of water after a simple cough. Nobody does that. Well done - possibly the only person to interview Mr. Plant in the right way.
The more I see, the more I appreciate the depth of this man. He’s way more than a rockstar.
I appreciate the interviewer who can bring out a bit of the real Robert.
Wow. Just wow. What a brilliant interview, credit goes to both sides of the table.
Corn Dog 🤘
Definitely, A great interview; ping pong engaged me!
I could listen to Robert talk all night. Great interview!
And I turned it off after 3 mins. I can't bear to listen to these stars drone on and "philosophize" about where their music "comes from". I don't give a shit. I rather hear him tell stories about his past experiences with other famous artists and being in Led Zeppelin. I'm happy listening to the music, but I don't care about all the BS.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH... Well, but it all intertwines /intersects & has genuine relevance, sincerely much more so with this very unique character's nuances of an amazing life🌠☯️
Being a native Nashvillian, i can tell you there was a buzz and an honor in the air when we knew Robert Plant had moved here, I'm sad to think he had a bad experience in our town....we really where HONORED.
Ed O'Brien from Radiohead said in an interview that he met Plant and Plant told him that "after seeing Radiohead he understood that the age of virtuosity was over". Cheeky.
A very relaxed and happy Robert Plant, great to see! It wasn't your typical interview, it felt like a real conversation.
Ok fellas take note, this man, Robert Plant, he is a fine definition of a man who is so truly comfortable with everything, hisself, life, his easy nature with people, eye contact, the usage of eloquent english with communication and his song writing skills, no dirty foul speech and his general all around coolness......hes a straight up man that sooooo many women would love to accompany. Robert, the older u get, the more I listen to interviews, any new song/band projects, u broaden my interests in the many cultutral flairs, showing me a true love experience with music.... I adore you through and through. You are def the Lion King in my book. Thank you for always being in so many folks lives.... it's been a trip and a pleasure!!! Love you!!!!
R Hawk well said!
My son adores him.
Cool interview!
Money fame makes everyone comfortable in life youngster
Yes, Thank you...
Single-handedly the best interviewer in the business
Such an intellectual Robert is,not just a lame ass rock star, easy on the eyes as well! Always was, still is.
Beautiful smile, gorge eyes!!!! My forever crush 😀🌹❤️
Well Tiffanyrose I feel the same way for Jimmy♥ As you do for Robert♥ too bad we can't go om a double date♥
My backdoor man since I was 14 years old Love him ❣❣❣👍
Best line ever!!! "Is that for me teeth?"
That and "The way I haven't found."
I saw that one. , pretty funny he is !!😅
This was a fantastic interview. I'd never seen this interviewer before and he asked great follow-up questions to continue a conversation instead of one-off's as most interviwers do. Robert Plant was, is, and always will be an amazing artist and fantastic wit. The only thing that distracted me during this compelling interview was the shaky camera man's apparent obsession with getting a shot from above with the chandelier in frame. Dude! Trust me when I say there's no need for 'artisitc' shots whilst filming a legend. Simply hold the camera STILL on his face. That is enough. Otherwise, this was quite enjoyable.
He's been around for a long time
The mirror still shines through those eyes
Strombo is pretty good.
Such a real, self deprecating guy. Still adorable. Utterly love him.
This is the best thing George has done in his career. Raw and honest.
Me encanta Robert Plant desde siempre...lo amo!!!!
I could listen to him talk all day, and hang on every word he speaks💜💜💜
What a gentleman, what a legend, what a man!
Saw Robert's show Friday in Toronto Friday night, great show great interview, great Robert , Zeppelin Rules!!!!!
An absolutely brilliant interview. Informative and humorous at the same time. Well done to both.
I agree. I've been very critical of his last few albums but when you hear him talk about things he's like a really really good salesman. The explanations are better than the new songs! Oh well.... he is the best. No question.
Robert is so intelligent, I could listen to him talk or sing all day. This was a blessing to watch. Bloody fantastic
Robert has never come out and claimed to be Pagan, but he is obviously very interested in the Old Ways. This really was a lovely interview, maybe the most personal one iv'e seen him do. Even if he had never done everything he's done professionally he would still be a very interesting man, just for the way he looks at the world and interacts with whatever he encounters along the way. Long may he continue his journeys within and without.
Ive loved this man since the beginning. yeah im as old as he is.
Great interview.
He speaks so beautifully, so brilliant. Lovely realness. I could listen to him forever!
Robert seemingly NEVER makes an unintelligible point .. he is admirable beyond words 👊
Apart from the fact that he's Robert freaking Plant, what an interesting man!
Smart and humble man. Big fan of his!
Morrocan influences in carry fire ! Amazing song indeed.
It's weird to me how he seems so happy and so sad at the same time.
Whenever I see Robert I think HAIR. He's definitely had some of the best.
His Smile❤️
Robert is water--you cant catch him, hold him or posses him. Ever onward. Sentimental yes but driven to explore EVERYTHING.
Ah Sir Robert not everyone sinks down when they hear songs like "Turn it Up" in between Zeppelin tunes. That is a masterpiece of which I wish you did more of in that vein. He has been mysterious for one reason or another, so good to see an interview with him!
Awsome Interview, love hearing Robert,it's always magical listening to a actual voice from onces past that was (in a sorts ) a Rock God.
Perspectives of there opinions of things today as aposed to back then are the Best :)) , I would Love to Chat up Robert some day over a cup of tea & then just chill a bit Strumming the acoustic Guitar and Colaberateing with Him :)) ,
Thanks for the Dreams
HugS !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!!.
great interview! Letting him talk so honestly and lucidly while subtly steering the ship ...
Could listen to Robert all night long ❤️
i like how the audience is staring at Robert like hes basically God
He is
A golden god
@@patrickwalling1636 Yup✊
As am I.
Strombo you did it again... another insightful conversation with another one of our icons, who has moved forward, and gives us a perspective from the other side of success. Robert Plant has moved on from his days of superstardom, and found a place where he can still be creative and comfortable in his own skin and his boots. Thank you.
Very well read, educated and "aware." I can see why he wouldn't want to live in the past and tour with Page and or Led Zeppelin. Much respect.
What a brilliant person, such eloquent speech ❤
Going back to my youth in 1969 hearing that whole Lotta love album to the present for a articulate intelligent person Robert Plant has turned out to be one or the greatest !
Awesome guy! He lives near us (sorta) my mum used to cut his hair! He also comes to our local pub for a drink. Love the guy!
Jade L whats the name of the pub?
@@prepro595 The Potted Plant.
@@edmundmcgrath213 Cute!
Lucky you! He's a doll, always loved him ♡
Can you imagine touching and cutting Robert’s iconic hair? Omg
What a wonderful interview. Plant is fantastic
how can you not love this Man!!!!??????
13:45, Turn It Up...great Plant song. Robert is just the best...man talks in poetry.
I could be wrong, but I get the feeling he goes down the pub in his local village and sees the same folks and they have a good old chat about everything in the workd. I hope so!
For the young people viewing this, Robert Plant was the lead singer in The Honeydrippers before he started The Sensational Space Shifters.
John S. And before The Honeydrippers he was the singer of Led Zeppelin. ☺
Andrea Heyers
yeah, yeah that's it. I knew he got "famous" somewhere. 😝
Fraevo10 Okay, okay. Was just kidding.😉😁
John S. Led Zeppelin ❤️
And on record the Honeydrippers included Jeff Beck, Paul Schaffer, Jimmy Page and Dave Weckl... though the band that appeared on Saturday Night Live was quite different with Buddy Williams drumming, Brian Setzer and members of the Saturday Night Live band and Blood Sweat & Tears... while live gigs included a band of relative unknowns except for guitarist Robbie Blunt, who also was in Plant's band during his MTV hits era...'Big Log', 'In the Mood' etc.
AT 0:27 I LOVE THE WAY HE WALKS UP THE STAIRS NO ENTOURAGE OR ANYTHING BECAUSE REAL TALENTED MUSICIANS FROM MY GENERATION ARE NOT NARCISSISTIC THEIR TALENT GIVEN BY GOD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF WHAT A HANDSOME TALENTED AMAZING MAN ✊🏾
An interview with a legend that breathes...well done
Such an intelligent bloke old Percy, long live the Price of Peace! Great Interview by the way.
"If you lose your mojo, you can never get it back."
Real talk from a legend.
So human.. Really good to get a glimpse of this man. To say he is a true musician, who lives and loves his work, would probably be redundant. I enjoyed this interview. Thank you.
Un seul mot, je l'adore👍🏼💖, je n'adore pas seulement son talent de chanteur mais aussi l'homme plein d'humanité et de simplicité.
Brilliant interview
I thank you soooooooo much for the upload!
Robert has always been highly intelligent.Great sense of humour. And never taken himself too seriously. As" The Golden God". Always humble, honest, and down to earth. Perfectionist in his work. Greatest male Rock/ blues lead singer, performer, entertainer ever. But so much more. Than just the most beautiful sexiest man i ever clapped my lustfull eyes on in the 70's.with that incredible vocal range. I love Carry Fire. Its my favorite track too. What you see is what you get. Aguy after my own heart. Always a joy to hear Robert interviewed. Loves his footy. And still plays in the UK. Passionate guy. So well travelled . You never stop learning aye Rob? Life is short. Flies by. Robert has made the most of his life. In my experience. A great sense of humour helps...You are still a sexy georgeous man Robert Plant...never stop..makin music...look forward to seeing you live in the UK with The shifters. ❤❤❤❤❤
Not too many people left that are "famous" that I'd like to sit with. Robert come sit and have tea with me.
Thank goodness I saw Robert Plant in 1988. Loved the concert!
Thank you for this fine look of Sir Plant!
Carry Fire is just beautiful! I am amazed and happy to have Robert Plant through Life. He is...very genuinely a good man.
Love my golden god.....
BRILLIANT.
Robert Plant is a normal down to earth person, was in wolverly pub in Worcester and heard someone arguing and laughing with Rob over a wolves game , just a pub
regular who happens to be a singer in a band.
Robert Plant is the Golden God of the Greatest voice of Rock and roll!
And thank God Jimmy Page chose Robert Plant as the greatest Rock band instead of Rod Stewart...don’t get me wrong, Rod Stewart is awesome in his own style of music 👍🤙
Terry Reid was Page's first choice. Reid declined and suggested Plant.
Finally someone who knows how to properly interview. Great questions meet great answers.
What a lovely lovely man. There really is nothing else to say about it.
Thanks for the share.
Great interview❤🎼In his true expression❤
Love Robert Plant!>>>fantastic sensibility!--still has those pipes, and love the years on his face!
A few cool things.....Robert Plant is a God and I am glad he's still putting out good music. 2. George does not age, he looks 25....drinking out of the fountain of youth! 3. George actually let's his guests talk and asks great questions. MOST inteviewers try to make interviews about themselves, but george always made about the guests and knows when to have a conversation.
Good job George!
Wow. Great interview.
Excellent interview. 😊🇨🇦
He's so 'enlightened'. pretty much a supreme being. smart, smart man, this Robert Plant.
This was a great interview, excellent questions, thank you :)
So humble and grounded. what I cut my teeth on growing up in the 70s. And still get substances from now. Great conversation.
Excellent interviewer. Knows exactly when to pick out something RP has said and have him talk about it in further detail.
So grateful to say hello!
I couldn't imagine the stories he could tell from the zeppelin days
We'll never know. That's part of the mystique.
I love Robert.
He’s so humble.
Lookin good George & awesome interview with the Golden God!
Robert Plant isn’t God.
That’s the guy’s name: Bub Bossman.
I believe the guys name is Bob Makowitz so piss off bub
Matt Markus, That would be Matt *Johnson.*
This was amazing
WONDERFUL,WAY BEYOND WORDS,MY LOVE FOR ROBERT GOES ON ENDLESSLY

Damn good interview.
