I’m a metal head. When I met my wife 18 years ago, I went to her house and sat with her in her room and watched her fold her laundry, in awe of the prettiest girl I’d ever seen, while she listened to this song and others. Today is our anniversary and I still love it. I’m a sap.

I've only recently discovered what feels like hidden treasure: female Canadian indie folk singers such as Be Good Tanyas, Sarah Harmer, Kathleen Edwards, Amelia Curran, Emilie Kahn, Whitney Rose, etc. Incredibly gorgeous music that should be getting more exposure.
Im from the 60s and 70s folk movement , so when my daughter introduced me to these gifted young ladies some years ago I immediately became and continue to be a big fan.
This was one of my little brother Jim's favourite songs who was ten years younger than me because he told me that it's how he felt about my oldest daughters Tanya and Lacey who were only eight and ten years younger than him. Because my dear kind hearted wonderful brother had so much pain in his heart, not much gave him pure joy, which ultimately took him from us two years ago 💔 So I pop by now and then to listen to one of those rare things that gave my beloved brother and best friend pure joy. Thank you to the Be Good Tanya's for giving my brother those moments 💕
Thank you so much 💗 I was missing him today a lot. It's been almost 3 years now and my heart still aches for his lost friendship. The other song that I always listen to is "In the Blood" by John Mayer. He introduced me to it because he identified with it. I did right away as well because, well we share the same blood and many of the same issues. I'm just a little bit stronger than him and beat my addictions for the most part, where his accidentally killed him. I know without a doubt that his troubled soul is finally at peace now though 💙
6 years now? People are still reading and caring 💙 I hope your heart grew the space it needed to live with that sadness more comfortably. Peace and love to you and your family
loved this song for years... so sweet...makes me just wanna sit in the sunshine at dusk & enjoy a smooth drink, feel the soft breeze on my skin with the golden soft sunshine rays warming me...
I just found this talented band and this song on Spotify tonight and it is one of those songs that speaks to me so deep it just physically fills my heart right up and brings happy tears to me. Cause I love the folksy bluesy country sound and for me I translate the lyrics into being about the long time I spent wandering (not lost but wandering) often living in my car and building my confidence and voice like a little bird with a big heart while sometimes feeling pent-up, heartbroken, and invisible as I flew around seeking out nests. I'll cover this song one day.
This is my whole childhood. I would go to my yayas house and dance around the giant living room my late grandfather built, and my mama would sing to me. This song is so peaceful and always makes me cry hearing it. I wish I could go back to those days🥺
LYRICS Well, I feel like an old hobo, I'm sad, lonesome and blue I was fair as a summer's day, now the summer days are through You pass through places and places pass through you But you carry them with you on the soles of your travellin' shoes Well, I love you so dearly, I love you so clearly I wake you up in the morning, so early just to tell you I got the wandering blues, I got the wandering blues And I'm going to quit these rambling ways one of these days soon And I sing, the littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs Well, it's times like these I feel so small And wild like the rambling footsteps of a wandering child And I'm lonesome as a lonesome whippoorwill Singing these blues with a warble and a trill But I'm not too blue to fly, no I'm not too blue to fly 'Cause the littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs But I love you so dearly, I love you so fearlessly I wake you up in the morning so early, just to tell you I've got the wandering blues, I've got the wandering blues And I don't want to leave you, I love you through and through Well, I left my baby on a pretty blue train And I sang my songs to the cold and the rain And I had the wandering blues, and I sang those wandering blues And I'm gonna quit these rambling ways one of these days soon And I sing, the littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs I don't care if the sun don't shine I don't care if nothing is mine I don't care if I'm nervous with you I'll do my loving in the wintertime
I love this song,I feel sorry for myself cause I didn't know about it until recently. My 2 years old hyperactive Cat seems to like this song too.(He smiles whenever I listen to the song)Thank you Canada!
I first heard this song on the Johnny Walker show on BBC radio 2 back in 1999. I thought it was brilliant and bought their CD Blue Horse which this track comes from and it was brilliant. I would definately recommend it.
Its one of those beautiful happenings... if you dont catch it......it will just flutter away.. and why do you want to catch it in the first place...... well lets just say the muse (or muses) shall never be caught....... thats the love ov The Be Good Good Tanyas....
best song of all the songs if you're sad and sad enough to hear these littlest birds sing and not so sad that you can't hear 'em and I hope you dance or at least wriggle your toes with glee and I hope you'll stand you'll stand with me because we we are all together we are in this together and if we have the good we have each other even if we are alone and if the worst thing is people then the best thing is people too. be happy my lovelies. if not today then another day. but be happy.
Traveling myself and my summer days have long past. Started singing this in the morning when I am hopeful and waitin around to die when the road is rougher. But I have a good man who is around when he can with hands so warm and strong I think he could have built the Colorado mountains I love.. the universe has a strange sense of humor. But I don’t forget my blessins.
Someone else said that and I don’t see the similarity at all. This is bluegrass and that is not. There are no mandolins, violins or banjos on Paul Simon’s tracks. Or Simon and Garfunkel.
Really like this song, & this offical video, and adore the quote of Syd Barrett from early Pink Floyd's Jugband Blues (himself adapting a lyric from itself an older song).
Beautiful little tune. The last lyrics caught me by surprise tho... They're from a song on Pink Floyd's Saucer Full of Secrets LP. A very old album when Syd Barret was with them. Jugband Blues. I believe Barret wrote it.
I was a drunk, druggy, fugitive for almost 3 years at the time I first heard this song. I would wake up at 4:53 before my alarm clock would go off at 4:54. I would grab my lunch and my little mp3 player with this one song on it and I would run full speed in -20 to -40 at the time in Calgary, Alberta to make the first train for 5:00AM to catch the number 52 bus to transfer to another bus to go work in a factory as I wrote rhymes. The people who were jammed in sitting next to me on the bus hearing this song play over and over and over and over from my headphones for those 3 months. I often wonder what they thought.

I often danced with my infant daughter in my arms to this song. She turned 18 yesterday and is heading off to college. So many feelings. I hope to dance with her at her wedding to this song some day.
Mate, if she doesn't have a wedding then create as many treasured opportunities to dance with your daughter as possible

I am amazed by the precision and gentleness of their music. So beautiful.
Precision gentleness should be a way of life.
Absolutely love the Syd Barrett Pink Floyd reference at the end. She actually quotes the song Jugband blues. So cool, so trippy 🥰
