Is playing drums like that hard on the hands? I have a fair bit of osteo arthritis in hands and wrists. Bad idea?

Just make sure you warm up before playing and go easy. If you feel any pain or experience swelling, stop and rest and/or apply some medication. Drumming won' pose an issue when done in a way that avoids strong impacts.
