I am a harpist and former piano, guitar, bass and uke teacher. I’m now entering a whole new musical world because I just inherited a great conga set and a very small set of bongos from my neighbor, (three tambourines and a guitar, too.) I UA-camd Congas and found you. So excited to learn.
Kalani, you are an excellent teacher. 🎉 Saying your audience is smart is sweet and kind, positive reinforcement really helps me stick with learning a new instrument. Thanks for your encouragement ❤
New subscriber here! Recently inherited a Bongo Cajon and me and hubby are learning to play it from you! Thank you so very much. You are very easy to understand and follow along with!
Ya man this was a great play along, I’m a drummer for my band but I love my bongos, always glad to hear what others can through down with just two bongo heads 👊
At 61 I love to sing .never tried instruments .maybe a little hand beat nothing serious and fumbling most of the times .and out of the blues" NOT! I decided I want to learn bongos . I'm in love with the sounds it creates. So I pick up a cooking pot and a hard plastic bowl and flip them over 🙃 I came across this video as my first introduction which was like a few days ago " I'd say like 4 days ago ' and I heard all the groovy sounds the instructor played and was delighted to want learn them " even though I was nervous and uncertain I came with eagerness and hope .I went through all five lessons about 5 times the first night I wasn't able to remember them all so I started the tape again .and realized it's not about memory as much as timing and tempo so I open my ears and when the instructor said the beat stays the same and showed how to keep the beat " I did exactly what he said and just kept the beat at the right pace and time And it sounds like I know what I'm doing? I find myself staying with the band and even putting my own pizzazz into it .I still need the hand transfers and the independence of singular hand .but I'm impressed with how much I learned by following the rules. I even made home made maracas lol and I like playing them also .well thank for listening may your day be filled with love and 🎶
I had a set of bongos until age 14, but somehow forgot about them. *I started learning to play other instruments.* I remember some lessons but not much, but I miss hearing them played practically everywhere during summer. *This just so happen to be in my feed.* OUTSTANDING! (strong bongo song.)
Just stumbled on this channel. Fantastic instruction! Thank you very much! I am just getting back into playing a drum kit plus bongos/conga. Glad I found you!
Thanks dude! Decided to use a Christmas gift card on a set of bongos and here I am playing along and giggling to myself because I’m having so much fun. Thanks a ton!
This is a fantastic video - just what I was looking for. I'm a guitarist and at our local music group I'm trying to encourage the guys who just sing to get into playing percussion. Liked, subscribed and I'm going to check out your web site now 👍
I have YT playing in the background, and what I heard was Patton Oswalt teaching bongos so I had to check and see... Disappointed it's not Patton, but glad I found another awesome channel to follow, which is almost as good as Patton teaching bongo.
Love to see your teaching vids. I know they have helped many people find their rhythm!! (I met you at Remo RMC in N. Hollywood) keep up the great work!
I am a drummer, Drummed for years,I have Excelled on the Bongos on my Own after someone gave Me the basics at the jams!I Like playing to Soul sacrifice, What going on And stuff like Sade which does fit for those African Styles, latin, what Ever you want to call it! I am More gross motored to Instruments, Like also the Bass for example but bass and guitar I have to rely on The frets and What key I'm in. The guitar for me is more fine Motoring skills And simply playing chords.
SUBSCRIBED* I take ownership of this gift! I just received my Bongos today. 😊 This was my very first lesson. Thank you! It's not as intimidating as I thought. #4 came natural to me. I kept going on #5 while you were doing variants for timing. I did it! I enjoyed it! I'm going to take this lesson every day for 30 days before I move on. I think this will give me good foundation. ~ Mary 🦋
Thanks very much, these are great. However I find when I’m playing with people, that the rhythm of the guitar strums or piano chords will influence what I can do on the bongos.
I started playing congas a few months ago in a cover band, and I’m thinking about adding a set of bongos. This tutorial was great. Do you have reverb added to the tone for this video? The tone is really nice.
I'm 75 in March, they have a fri night acoustic jam and I was thinking about taking my bongos up bty it's the American legion, what should I just play along or lead some
Can anyone explain why the right hand bothers playing the left bongo which could be simply played by the left hand? I tried to play both ways and see no difference soundwise.
Hey Kalani, thanks for another great lesson. If I might make a suggestion, when you are doing the breakdowns please turn off any and all backing tracks/beats (if they are running). I keep hearing ghost notes or something which makes me think I am missing hits in the patterns.
You know it's too late I'm going to be watching this Bongos I love your video thank you so much I'm going to learn how to play themFor sure thank you🙏🤲
I cannot understand why I am the only one who can't pick this up and be able to play properly. Saying that, I only have 1 bongo drum at home and have to have it between the leg section to get decent sound. If it stands on the floor, it sounds flat. I'm in need of getting the correct hand and finger contacts with the drum and I need a bigger drum to compliment the playing so that learning techniques is feasible. Once I get to a drum circle (which is 5 weeks away much to my disgruntled dismay) perhaps I can drum to this clip as I do love it. I'm quite new to bongo drums in general. I have some natural rhythm apparently (I like dancing which is an emblem of drumming but without instruments)
Just started myself, everyone plays guitar n my family but me. I started bongo just have one drum. Due to my NEW diognosis parkinson which I have a hard time excepting! I'm stubborn I guess....wish me luck nervous 😬
I switched to a Mieln x bongo it’s a wooden x shaped canjon box thing easy to play easy on your legs goes for about 80. Dollars I’m going to get the turbo cajon with volume a tone knobs 219. $
In my opinion I’m pretty decent at improvising myself, but trying those out is difficult. I think my play style is just different from this particular example. Mb it’s same for you too :)) Important thing is: don’t give up, try things that are hard for you, it makes your brain think in new ways. But also maybe you’re just different and like different things :>
I was just wondering Being a drummer...it might be a little getting used to playing the timbales being that it’s the opposite of the way a regular drum set is set up, but the conga drums are the opposite of timbales. Is it ok if I set up the timbales the way I’m used to with a drum set or should I just get used to the traditional set up

I love your attitude and easy to follow instructions. The overhead showing the bongos as I'm looking at mine is super helpful. This is fun. Thank you.
Thanks Kalani. I enjoyed the rhythms and your positive energy.
My pleasure
Thank goodness
Simple, well-chosen, well-presented rhythms. And you're right. They're versatile! Thanks for adding some new flavor to my playing!

So glad to see someone doing bongo rhythms instead of the martillo that has been done to distraction. Thank you 👍🏾
Ah same. Glad to see someone else also tired of that.

7:00 You, I get you!
Which of these beats can be used in Bachata? The funky one (3) might not work so well with bachata.
Cool
Thank you for your help, time and teaching. I'm a beginner and I need help tuning my bongos. Do you have a bongo tuning tutorial?.Thank you.
I have a couple on tuning bongos. Enjoy!
@@WORLDDRUMCLUB Thank you so much. Have a great day.
What Machine is playing the drums?
Thank you for this lesson , very helpfull, sorry for my ignorance but i dont understand why the 2 &4 is on the low unlike the classic drum beat??

I was just wondering
Being a drummer...it might be a little getting used to playing the timbales being that it’s the opposite of the way a regular drum set is set up, but the conga drums are the opposite of timbales. Is it ok if I set up the timbales the way I’m used to with a drum set or should I just get used to the traditional set up
You can setup however works for you. It’s OK. Just know the difference if you want to share instruments with others or learn traditional skills.
What about Reqq or Tamburin
Wish can find a freedrumming circle in London..
Can I find a pdf file with sheet music on Patreon?
No PDF for these, as they are clearly shown and broken down as is, but if you are a Patron, make a request for notation and I’ll create it.
