I've always been told "if you can't make it perfect, make it adjustable" and it seems Beretta are applying the same philosophy to this, not a bad thing as it means Beretta only have to make one model the same way to have it suit a lot more people.
Funnily enough I was handed one of these in a gun shop to look at on Thursday. If I’d been blindfolded I’d have said it was a Browning as there was a bit more meat in the action and wrist than I’m used to in a Beretta. I’ve got smallish hands for a full size man and it didn’t feel too big. I looked it over and was impressed, then looked at the tag and it was genuinely £1000 less than I expected! I’m not an expert on Beretta nomenclature so 688 didn’t give me a clue as to where it sits in the lineup, but it makes sense when it was explained. I was impressed overall - I like laminate on a clay gun and my only gripe was the checkering was a bit sharp on my soft hands!
lol……. Nahhh it just takes more man hours to manufacture laminate…. But heyho why should you pay for those man hours ….. sounds like sour grapes that you can’t afford it 😢😢😢😢😢😢
@@Geoff-n1dWhy would it? I assume they glue one big sheet of laminate and get 10-20 stocks. Then saw them out and cnc-machine them. If it takes longer and gets more expensive than dealing with "live" wood they are maybe doing something wrong 🤔...
Exactly. The reason for laminate is margin - simple. All this marketing bs about recoil and flex…rubbish. Stock flex is orders of magnitude less than the heel pad or the various levels of digweed shoulder behind it
A new Beretta, never a bad thing .. I have a 686, love it, too poor to "upgrade" but this looks like would be a great candidate. Thanks for the cool review.
For the stationery bird/fowl hunter that shoots clays to warm up for the hunting season. It'll be interesting to see if this one sticks or heads to the closeout rack.
It’s nice to see a push towards a modern look and style. We so many guns only being shot on a clay ground then why not! Laminate wise, Shot a B525 laminate and prefer that to the standard 525. There is something about laminate that allows a gun to have a lovely weight. If you haven’t shot a laminate gun then strongly recommend do before judging. Not too keen on the lines on the action. Think more could have been done but it’s inoffensive I suppose. Would be interested to see if they do another version on give the 694 family the same treatment.
I am a big believer in adjustable combs. However, I don't understand why manufacturers don't make them so that you can go lower, not higher. I have a long neck like you, and lower is almost always what I need. Otherwise I need to bury my snout into the comb .
Yep nice to have a gun you don't mind getting wet. When i was younger and bird hunting in New York and when it was snowing or raining i hated getting my gun wet. That is a beautiful shotgun, but im saving money for a 687 silver PIGEON 3 EELL 28 & 410 combo , Joel Etchen s in Pennsylvania has some beautiful high end guns. I would like to buy in Washington State, but no premier dealer here on the west coast, so will purchase from the East Coast. Thanks for the great video. You always have good video's, maybe the hot sause shoot not so much LOL , have a great Holiday Season.
I think it a great looking gun. I like the adjustments and improvements but I don’t think it’s worth the extra 1k over the 686. Laminate is so much cheaper and finicky compared to walnut. Maybe if the barrels were steelium plus?
I didn’t like this gun when I first saw it but I do think it has a place it’s just a shame they didn’t use the 690 action over the 680 series to base this gun on price wise I think it sits too near a 694 if it was a few hundred more then a 686 it would be incredibly good value and probably sell more. I really love the look of the laminate and the stippling on the action and the look of it in general it’ll be interesting to see how well they do.
Was looking into getting 828U Sport as I'm not a fan of the classic look of over-unders (I'm new to clay shooting). That was pretty much the only shotgun I liked the look of even tho it is quite expensive for me. I'll definitely consider this over that gun as from what I can tell it's also cheaper while I only want the gun to look good - I'll be doing the shooting.
I would strongly recommend NOT buying an 828. They are horrible on recoil, I would go as far as to say “punishing.” Look up almost any review not put out by Benelli and you will see what I’m saying is true. I would strongly suggest shooting any gun you’re interested in before making that investment. This 688 would be twice the gun for clays that the 828 is and yes I’m well aware Beretta owns Benelli. But the 828 was a huge misstep for whom ever designed it in my opinion.
I have a 682 evo it was my first gun. Been looking for a replacement and I think this is the one. Great review. Bet I cant 50 straight with it though.😂
Brilliant review. I’m looking for a spare 1 for when my dt goes in for service, ( I hear GMK is around 10+weeks ). I was going to get a dt11 black (second hand), or should this be a contender? What’s your thoughts mr c ?
The 688 will fill a long-needed gap in the Beretta dedicated clay target line that won't break the bank. I think most shooters would agree that a new 680 series introduction is by no means a bad thing! 😀
Looks nice, not sure about the orange, you’d definitely need a matching vest if you got one😬,still prefer the 525 laminate, I sprayed my chokes Matt black,, 👍👍

About time something different look how air rifle have come alongin last few years different designs and at end of the day its a clay muncher if it breaks clay great
You kept mentioning price point but didn't tell us how much the thing is. Second if it's that good go back and do the same set but using 3/4 and full chokes to see if it really is that well handling.
Its probably one of the better looking lammies out there, don't get me started on that black plastic browning 525 mess. I still don't like the fact the big names sell the cheapest guns to make higher than standard due to them looking spicey, laminate is a budget process, looks the part has good features but that money will get you far more gun elsewhere
I think it’s a fantastic looking gun. But the big question is, is it as good as a 694 ? Yes I know it’s a lot cheaper, but I’m genuinely asking because I have a 694 that I’ve been thinking about changing, but until I saw this, I didn’t know what I would have.
I guess the 694’s main benefit is the barrel tech and longer potential life span. pound for pound handling wise I think they are very similar in quality.
Alright J - lovely video and gun. But 6/7 years ago i can imagine this review being very different. More critical. The sponsorship from B 🇮🇹 has really changed the channel and IMO it has lost its edge (which is why your channel grew).
Türkische Flinten haben für wenig Geld einen wunderbaren Schaft. Warum kann das Beretta nicht? Die 688 ist eine schöne Flinte, hätte sie eine Walnussholz würde ich sie mir als Zweitflinte kaufen.
Personally 3k for an “entry level comp gun” is ridiculous. Especially for a laminate stock You can find amazing guns for less price like the browning b725pro sport. Yes you’ll struggle to find a brand new one for less than 3k Mine was 2.3k second hand and I’d say is a better choice
@only with the 725pro sport don’t like any other ones browning makes I’ve got a few browning but I started with a beretta 686 onyx then an essential both brands are great imo
Tbh if its a double of any kind and doesnt have spring ejectors and i have to manually shuck shells it better be less than a grand. Otherwise why wouldnt you go with a cheeper option. All you are getting in reality is an adjustable cheek riser and im struggling to come up with other benefits compared to other options. And even then buy a cheeper gun and put a cheek pad on it for 20 so why is it so impressive? I just dont see it...
Gotta pay the bills but personally I have zero interest in new overpriced ugly shotguns. Course it’s still worth watching just for the production value. Hopefully they still let you talk about the wonderful old guns that are an incredible value 👍🏼
It looks as if Beretta doesn’t want to work in actual wood. Their great guns have been limited by poor finishes so now they shove laminates at customers. Will anyone desire that gun 50 years from now? Is that an heirloom gun?
I've always been told "if you can't make it perfect, make it adjustable" and it seems Beretta are applying the same philosophy to this, not a bad thing as it means Beretta only have to make one model the same way to have it suit a lot more people.

That would be a sweet gun for hunting. Laminate and then the steel cerracoted matt/satin black with those small orange details. Love it 👍🏼👍🏼!
The pricing for these laminate stocks are ridiculous there is no reason they should be more than good walnut
lol……. Nahhh it just takes more man hours to manufacture laminate…. But heyho why should you pay for those man hours ….. sounds like sour grapes that you can’t afford it 😢😢😢😢😢😢

@Geoff-n1d go buy some plywood and some solid hardwood, let me know the price difference!
@ as I said man hours …. Not material cost , go get an education, laminate isn’t bog standard plywood
A new Beretta, never a bad thing .. I have a 686, love it, too poor to "upgrade" but this looks like would be a great candidate. Thanks for the cool review.

This has just made my pending purchase of a second hand 694 adjustable much more difficult, thanks for the review very impressed.
Picking one up Tuesday.
Cool, when are they coming out with a EELL version with exhibition grade plywood ? ...................
I see quite a few 694's at my local clay ground.
Have a feeling will be seeing a few of these in the near future.

Another great review Jonny. The price point for what you’re getting seems reasonable. Two thumbs up!
Had my eye on this since launch. It's really tempting me...

50 Straight! Good job! Will have to track down one of these guns, in the wild, and give it a look/feel.
I’m waiting for stock on a left hander and I’ll be grabbing one
I am also left handed and I want a 690 black but I can't find anywhere in my country

Been waiting for this review love this gun. Hope it's at British shooting show next year so I can have a good look at it 😊
Had a look at one, in the hands it feels just like a Gold E.
I've had the Browning xs pro Black laminate on order for a month then this comes out and I'm all over the place now.
I really like it, annoyingly I’ve just brought a silver pigeon 3 sporter two days before this came out.
I think it a great looking gun. I like the adjustments and improvements but I don’t think it’s worth the extra 1k over the 686. Laminate is so much cheaper and finicky compared to walnut.

hi john , try putting some black tape over the chokes, i covered mine and 4 years later its still on them, loved the vid m.
I didn’t like this gun when I first saw it but I do think it has a place it’s just a shame they didn’t use the 690 action over the 680 series to base this gun on price wise I think it sits too near a 694 if it was a few hundred more then a 686 it would be incredibly good value and probably sell more. Beretta blue stock and forend gold graphics 👌
Looks good but i do wish it was slightly less blingy.

Looks like a nice tool for the trade. Never owned a Beretta, just Browning, being laminated by, it looks good. Hummm. Take Care and Be Safe.
I like how you've gone the extra mile with the Beretta hat and vest 😂
Sweet looking gun !!! Lot of gun for the money too !!!

1/4 & 1/2 How would it do with 3/8ths ?
Nicely done
Love the look and will consider it, it would be my first rifle, thoughts?
This is a shotgun not a rifle.
You kept mentioning price point but didn't tell us how much the thing is. Second if it's that good go back and do the same set but using 3/4 and full chokes to see if it really is that well handling.

Hmm.... looking for a new Trap gun. May the 688 be a decent one?
The trigger feeling in comparison with 692/694 ?
These look absolutely awesome!! How much are they coming in at?
On shelves at £3k
hi which would you choose 694 or 688?
This is gonna give the 725 sporting some competition in its price group
Love your channel

if you have a gun that works for you.a guitar that you can play and a fishing rod that catches fish what more do you need?
Great review! LOVE the hat!! where can I get one?
I picked this up in the Beretta Store at the NSC for #pinkoutfriday
Not sure if they are available in the U.K.

looks the business laminate is great and hard wearing its a bargain at 3k
Honking looks, honking price. Beretta have dropped a clanger on this one 😅
if its heavier than a siver pigeon why is it more expensive?
Weight generally isn’t an indicator of price, but of intended use
