Great video, Josh. Thanks to you I've just picked up a CZ 457. The YoDave spring kit is amazing. Very easy installation. Thanks again for all the time and effort you put in your videos.
Never shot precision before. Went to range this past weekend, and a regular let me try his CZ 457. I'm hooked now, just ordered one and studying up on the sport. Great content!
Gr8 Vid. A “friendly competition” friend brought me a supposed (per internet) competition spring that was either boxed wrong or ? I remembered posts of cutting down a pen spring, installing a longer adjustment screw and now have 13 oz measured. Cost 0, labor & fun only. Maybe 30 min job. Clean crisp/lite. FREE!!! My CZ 457 came with 3.5 LB min, adjustable trigger. What a joke. We did it at the competition with a Dremel as I’d purchased the rifle just days b4. I have banged the rifle every way with NO firing. Go Timny & Yo Dave but There’s options. Wish I knew how to post Lapua center x 50 & 100 yd targets.
Your evaluation is spot on, my cz 457 mtr factory trigger broke at 1lb 3oz and with the yodave spring install most broke at an even 8 oz, one test broke at 6oz, thanks Josh put me down for a 3x if you can get them that large, I'll take two shirts
If you polish the Sear and Striker faces combined with a lighter spring, the factory trigger isnt shabby at all. But its never had a very crispy break like the Timneys are known for.
Good video production. Really, triggers that are fully adjustable are adjustable for take up(pretravel), pull length(sear engagement), pull weight, over travel.
a sear profile cleanup & polish would achieve a better result & deal to the over travel.. the CZ sear is well hardened which is the key.. but then its not plug n play 🤧.. springs too are an easy change from any engineering supplies for a buck.. im not sold on Timney.. better to spend on accurising the bolt face & chamber match with head space
I commend your honesty. I know what I said and……. I will still probably purchase this trigger for my VPR MTR since I have a 457 .17 too and will have the best of both worlds.
Great review, I played with my trigger and finally went into a shop and had them test the weight and it was running over 2lbs, fitted a yodave and it feels much better and I will shoot it for the first time in an hour. It would be great if you did a video on adjusting the standard trigger.
This trigger is fantastic and probably my favorite mod to my 457. I like how Timney shows the adjustment range minimum of 10 oz but mine came out of the box at 8.1, and yours at 5.4 lol
I thought the 10 oz was the minimum low end for this trigger. If it can be adjusted to 5 oz. like you have done, I definitely need it. Thanks for a great video.
I like your takes on the cz 457 mtr & ammo just got my 457 mtr put a Athlon Midas tac on it, it like ely match & club match is 5rds touching at a 100yd cot my ruger prr is no were close to that I think I might go with the ODave trigger first, keep up your good work on the cz 457
I shot my new cz 457 mtr for the first time in May, I used a ballistics calculator and shot my gong at 300 yards, the very first mag I shot the cz hit shot 3-4-5 on target at 300 yards. I think you will enjoy your new cz, put an area419 30 moa scope base on it and you will be set, I did put a yodave spring kit in after the first outing it works great for 15 bucks
I have a yo dave kit on my 455 which is a different type of trigger than the 457. It is awesome and now i want a 457 so ill stick with yodave. $150 is a fair amount of ammo to shoot! 😉. Thanks and great videos
I bought the yoDave and after installing it I was very happy but once I got to the range I felt the grittiness and the break felt good but not great. My buddy had his 457 with the Timney and side by side there is no comparison. I ordered one as soon as I got home. Great review
Great video! Definitely answered my questions on whether to buy a timney or not. For now anyways, i will be keeping my stock trigger. Works great for my applications.

Nice review on the 457 trigger options. The spring kit option is the bet bang for the buck if your on a budget. I like the new Timney trigger option if you can afford it. Thanks Josh
I have the 457 atone and put the yodave spring in. I see no need to spend that much on the timney when I can get more ammo for the price difference. Great video !!
I have watched numerous videos on the 457 trigger and also played around with my trigger. The one glaring omission by everyone is the link between the 3 setting parameters on the 457. Everyone talks about the adjusting screw but no one addresses the role the other two set screws play. How should they be set? Is there a connection between pull weight and the other two settings? Safety issues? Even CZ does not talk about those things.
The screw by the trigger pull weight is for the travel after the break. The one by the trigger shoe is the travel before the break. Set both of these to the minimum amount of travel. And set them first. If you go too far with either of these settings the sear won't catch and you need to back off a quarter turn. Set the trigger pull last cause these first two settings actually increase the trigger pull. I have my trigger pull adjusted all the way out and it's still to strong for a competition gun. Get a Timney trigger and you can get it preset and 10 oz.. or more. Can't beat the Timney on any gun.
Perfect..I just ordered the YODave trigger for my CZ 457. I'll take the 9oz. trigger pull. Maybe later i may try the Timney, but i need to shoot as good as you first..
I tried to leave my cz set to factory settings, you do need to remove (1) Allen screw with a set nut that holds the screw in place from turning) to install the Yodave spring, I did not mess with any adjustments for pre/over travel or pull weight, left them alone and got a nice 8oz with he spring kit, Josh made a lot of sense about losing pull weight adjusting the pre/over-travel
Hi. guys - I want share my experience with Timney trigger on my CZ 455. Original trigger on my CZ I little bit modified and it was not bad - but I found after 3 or 4 shots another shot had different pull and jumped over pre-trigger set. So I bought Timney and no adjustment and start to practising .... well first what I noticed was sharp edge on trigger - I filed it down later I found that shiny coating (on my trigger) is slippery ! So with round diamond burs I made texturing like antler pattern. From that moment I am happy happy ! One idea more. I found ammo manufactures using oil or wax for their bullet protection so when I am loading a magazine I try to avoid to touch bullet ! And if I accidentally do that before start shooting I clean up my finger or at least I take some dirt or sand and I clean that lubrication off from my finger - it is working for me. Happy shooting !
one info more - as far as I know CZ make special trigger FLYWEIGHT TRIGGER and price in Canada is flying between $179 - $230 . Because I did not find any references for this trigger in the time for replacement my choice went to Timney. One point more I like CZ guns but I start to feel the quality is going down. When I compare my 22 LR BRNO1 with CZ 455 I have to say that old timer is much more smoother, on cheap gun they made pillar bedding, the trigger is great . But it is my feeling and I use it for hunting or dispatching my game on trap line. I am very critical to gun manufacturers - for example few years back I bought Wheatherby made in Japan and took to me 2 months to bring it to my basic standards !!!
@@PursuitofAccuracy no Josh I wasn’t. I read it though, it was a good article. They’re supposed to be sending me one out of the first run which they just did so I hope to be getting a tracking number this next week. I’m also interested in a shirt also. I’ll send you an email.
Great video! I shoot a CZ 457 Varmint in NRL 22 based class and and I don’t believe you can change the trigger so a Yo Dave spring is the way to go. If I was building an open class gun or a PRS style gun I would definitely go with the Timney trigger.
Another superb video. Dayummm! That hostage target was some fine shooting! You really have me interested in that CZ rifle ! What ammo were you shooting ?
@@PursuitofAccuracy I'm really not sure how much better it can get than that ! If you have a vid of that rifle shooting better, please let me know which one ! You are definitely in Vudoo territory with that rifle ! BTW, I'd definitely go with the upgrade to the Timney. Being a trigger snob myself, the difference between 6 oz and 9 oz doesn't seem like much until you shoot 6 oz for a while. If you go back to a 9 oz, its like "when the heck is this thing gonna break?" Thanks again for another great video.
Josh, Like all your videos. Was wondering if you have tried the JARD trigger in the CZ457 MTR as of yet ? They make three different poundage springs from3oz to 12 oz just wondering what you thought.
Love your videos. I too have a 457 Varmint MTR wirh the Yo Dave trigger and I'm quite pleased. I'd consider the Timney just to have the best of the best. That being said I'm afraid of screwing up the action. I'm not sure of the torque settings at all
@@mariogaudiomonte5866 so the t20 that holds down the trigger group has a lock washer and it just needs to be snug. Your action screws will like something between 15 in lbs and 30 in lbs. Anywhere in that region will be fine.
Great stuff...very informative and honest. Interestingly, i have a old Hawken 50 call muzzleloader (which is a wall piece) it has a double trigger the first to "set" and a second to fire. The first trigger i am guessing (I will measure in near future, is maybe 20 pounds...the second I would guess is 5oz (or maybe less)...super simple design s well..
Hello, Nice review, I ordered the Timney and have a question for you. Was your Timney at 5oz out of the box? Or did you adjust it down? Website says 10oz-2lb range? I’d like mine at around 5 oz as yours is. Thank you.
Why buy a yo Dave spring kit, get a bick pen snip the spring in half and use it. I did it on my Cz 457 and get 8oz pull weight. Still put the Timney in because I love the flat face trigger over a curved shoe.
Unfortunately I’ve been having lots of feeding issues since installing the Timney. Seems to happen on average every 10 rounds and the last round of the magazine. Sometimes the bolt jumps over the round and sometimes the nose of the bullet hits the top of the chamber before it even clears the magazine catch on the back of the round. Going to install the factory trigger and see if the issue goes away. Maybe I just got a out of spec trigger and it is putting to much pressure on the bolt as the bolt doesn’t seem to be quite as smooth.
Good review. For my preferences, the Yo Dave is not only better value but also superior. I prefer a 2 stage trigger and have a 2 Stage TT Diamond on the big rig. Allowing me to keep the take-up and adjust the over-travel to replicate the feel of my centerfire is far more important than having the lightest, crispest, & least movement. Also, retaining some over-travel can be beneficial to accuracy as a safety margin when you get “hurried” in a match. There is really no need to try to eliminate it, except on a semi-auto.
Salut Josh, I can now confirm that I am indeed your undisputed equal in two regards …. I own a CZ457 MTR and a white cat. After that things sort of go downhill considerably …. but wait …. I also own a White West Highland Terrier. Seriously though I prefer the factory trigger on my MTR to the set trigger option on my CZ 527 Varmint in .223. I feel more in control with the heavier pull wait. With the 1lb pull weight option on the CZ527 it simply “breaks” too easily if you know what I mean, and please do not suggest it is simply my old age. Regards Robert
Im not a huge fan of a set trigger. I think i could get use to it on a bench rest only rifle but outside of that i prefer a single stage trigger almost always
@PursuitofAccuracy, be careful with the pull weight on Timney trigger. I set mine at 8oz and it felt very nice. However, when closing the bolt aggressively, the trigger would go off.. and it did so until I got into a 1lb weight range. I'm not sure if this is just my trigger or this is a normal behavior.
@@emalyuta its a sear engagement thing. Too light of a trigger with too little sear engagement can do that. You can adjust some more sear engagement into the trigger so its not releasing on bolt close. I typically adjust mine then use a rubber mallet to smack the action to make sure it wont release on me
@@PursuitofAccuracy thanks for the note. I could not find any information about adjusting the sear engagement on the manufacturer website, and sent an email to tech support.
@@emalyuta im not sure its technically a “sear” adjustment but you can add a little more pretravel if you have that adjusted to close its pushing the sear close to the break and with the trigger really light it can bump fire
I've been watching you for a little while now Josh and I can't recall seeing you shooting the 457 with the at one stock do you not like the app one I was considering about maybe getting one of those but I would respect your opinion on that
The at one has a lot of feautures for the price. I find its a little small for most adult shooters and the inletting is pretty bad on all the ones ive seen.
Hi! Can you make a comparison of the same rifle but of different barrel lengths? 457s have quick change barrel so A comparison of group size between the longest and the shortest barrel will be very nice!
Hi Jack. The only issue is every barrel is going to favor different ammo. For instance my lilja likes the eley match and a 16" mtr barrel i have really likes a lot of sk standard plus i have
I just picked up a 457 varmint in left hand and want this trigger but its a bit pricy right now. Im going to play with the factory trigger and see what i can do. Due to a hand injury i need my triggers light, around 1 pound. Hope i can get the factory one around that.
You can definitely finess a factory trigger to 1lb, especially if you order the yo dave spring kit. It's pretty cheap, and if your willing to research it people have found compatible springs for the 457's to use
@@PursuitofAccuracy No need to use the overpriced Yo Dave spring. You can order 12 of the same springs he uses from McMaster 9657K611. 12 springs for the same as one Yo Dave. My 457 breaks at 7oz with no pre or post movement.
Did you have any issues with the trigger after the install....just put mine in and about every 6th time you pull the trigger the firing pin doesn't engage until you start to lift the bolt....still waiting on a call back from timney
Excellent video. I don't competition shoot but am just an old geezer that likes to shoot my rimfire rifles at our range. I realize the lightest trigger pull possible would be needed in competition so help me understand are b/a precision rifles like yours inherently designed to be safe with trigger pull weight only in ounces? I am a air gunner primarily and thought the T06 triggers in both my Diana 34's @ 1.5# are exciting.
Thanks Rude Dawg, not quite living up to your name haha. The CZ factory trigger can be taken so light that it becomes un safe in a drop scenario. The Timney was designed to remain drop safe even at it's lowest setting but I haven't tested that theory. Most of the bolt gun matches for precision you have to move with the bolt open and the bolt only closes when your target is in your crosshairs. This prevents the possibility of anything bad happening if we were to drop the rifle. Of course all things are possible but most good triggers remain drop safe to their lowest pull weight settings.
@@PursuitofAccuracy Thanks for responding, ok got it now. If I can ever find a CZ457 synthetic, which I really want, it sounds like the stock trigger is all I'd ever really need. Thanks again.
Good video. How is the Timney trigger working these days? It's been over a year since your original post. I read the posts below and saw where you had adjusted it down to the 5.4. Do you still have it set at 5.4? Have you checked it for slam fire?
@@jimreed6653 its been in and out of different chassis and being shot by different people. Its not my main competition rifle so 8 ounces is just where it ended up at.
Can you provide details on the arca you installed? I notice it protrudes out of fore end. Does this induce movement via flexing when bipod is installed at the end and loaded? Thanks for vids!!
Thanks to you I have caught the CZ bug. I am a bit confused about the best model, and I am budget limited. I would want a MTR barrel (I think) but also 20 inches and I am left handed. So I can't go with the Varmint MTR stock because it is set up for right handed shooters. Is the MTR overkill? What do you have? I understand the Bentz chamber is better than Sporter. Pardon if you have already covered this in another video since I haven't watched all of them (yet). I have seen a couple of older 457s advertised that have 20 inch barrels and a beautiful Turkish walnut stock that would work. But the wood stocks don't necessarily give the best performance.
In your particular case id get whatever model you like the most thats lefty friendly. The mtr barrels are match chambers and usually very good. The standard barrels are usually very good as well. But in the event its not up to par the aftermarket avaikability of barrels is abundent (proof, bartlein, lothar walther, lilja, IBI).
Maybe I missed it but was the 5oz. trigger pull weight as it came from Timney or adjusted before the trigger was installed. Sorry for question I found you already answered.
I notice that you have a blinder on your scope which I assume is to block your left, dominant eye. How do you it attached as I am cross eye dominant as well.
That is actually not a blinder. Its a dope card so i can write down my elevation dials for targets and have quick access to them. I shoot both eyes open
Have you noticed a heavier bolt lift when cocking your rifle? Mine seems about double the effort to cock after I installed on my CZ. Love the pull weight though.
@@PursuitofAccuracy that’s what I rolled with. It is in a manners vpt stock so the vertical grip drew me to try it. I can always try curved if I don’t like it but I noticed you’ve had both in your videos. Thanks for all the Cz content BTW!

The yo dave is very good for what it is
The price for base class “excludes” aftermarket triggers. Implying you can change them and it doesn’t add to the rifle/scope price for base class.
You are correct
Another superb video. Dayummm! That hostage target was some fine shooting! You really have me interested in that CZ rifle ! What ammo were you shooting ?
Hey Jeff that was with eley match. I didnt take much time to shoot it so could have been better but i was trying to focus on the trigger
Great video was waiting on this one, great info thank u
No problem at all
Love your videos. I too have a 457 Varmint MTR wirh the Yo Dave trigger and I'm quite pleased. I'd consider the Timney just to have the best of the best. That being said I'm afraid of screwing up the action. I'm not sure of the torque settings at all
Action tongue? You wont screw up anything replacing the trigger
@@PursuitofAccuracy tongue was a typo
@@mariogaudiomonte5866 so the t20 that holds down the trigger group has a lock washer and it just needs to be snug.
Your action screws will like something between 15 in lbs and 30 in lbs.
Anywhere in that region will be fine.

Good review, Josh. Thanks. Not in the market, but this review would help me if I was.
Appreciate it Cmndo
Great stuff...very informative and honest. Interestingly, i have a old Hawken 50 call muzzleloader (which is a wall piece) it has a double trigger the first to "set" and a second to fire. The first trigger i am guessing (I will measure in near future, is maybe 20 pounds...the second I would guess is 5oz (or maybe less)...super simple design s well..
Yeah the set triggers are pretty crazy. Still popular too
I was amazed by the 150 (?) something year old machining precision.
Hello, Nice review, I ordered the Timney and have a question for you. Was your Timney at 5oz out of the box? Or did you adjust it down? Website says 10oz-2lb range? I’d like mine at around 5 oz as yours is. Thank you.
I adjusted it down. The adjustments are pretty easy though
Great video. Truly appreciate. Which bipod is on the competition rifle?
Atlas bt46
Great video on trigger upgrades. My question is who's add on piece to the comb of the stock is that?
Victor titan
Why buy a yo Dave spring kit, get a bick pen snip the spring in half and use it. I did it on my Cz 457 and get 8oz pull weight. Still put the Timney in because I love the flat face trigger over a curved shoe.
Good review Josh. Finally sub you. Need to get one of your shirts to go with Ray's
Thanks snakeman. Your on the list
you need to test the nox3d trigger kit spring for the CZ ;-) available on the eshop
Shameless plug eh
@@PursuitofAccuracy no, test one , give me your adress
Unfortunately I’ve been having lots of feeding issues since installing the Timney. Seems to happen on average every 10 rounds and the last round of the magazine. Sometimes the bolt jumps over the round and sometimes the nose of the bullet hits the top of the chamber before it even clears the magazine catch on the back of the round. Going to install the factory trigger and see if the issue goes away. Maybe I just got a out of spec trigger and it is putting to much pressure on the bolt as the bolt doesn’t seem to be quite as smooth.
Yeah thats interesting
@@PursuitofAccuracy on a side note I love your videos. Would be fun to visit and shoot with you sometime.
@@tobinbennett I appreciate that. Looking to do several youtuber match meet and greats next year, would love to see you there
@@PursuitofAccuracy great. I’ll keep an eye out for dates.
Great review! Thanks 👍
Thanks King, appreciate it
Nice, informative, video Josh! Regarding the Timney; Do you prefer the curved or straight faced trigger?
Flat
Thumbs up for the white cat.
Haha appreciate it
Oh. That white cat is so beautiful. You should have let it stay on the bench with you for the video.
He doesnt like me so he wont hang around too long 🤣🤣
Gotta get one !
Timney makes a good trigger always has
Yeah they have been great in my rifles
Good review. For my preferences, the Yo Dave is not only better value but also superior. I prefer a 2 stage trigger and have a 2 Stage TT Diamond on the big rig. Allowing me to keep the take-up and adjust the over-travel to replicate the feel of my centerfire is far more important than having the lightest, crispest, & least movement. Also, retaining some over-travel can be beneficial to accuracy as a safety margin when you get “hurried” in a match. There is really no need to try to eliminate it, except on a semi-auto.
Never thought about that. Thanks for commenting
Nice cat. You are in fact “The Man!”
He's one of two, and the most annoying / funny of the two as well. Thanks for the comment and support.
Great Channel 👍
Thanks I appreciate that
@PursuitofAccuracy, be careful with the pull weight on Timney trigger.
For instance my lilja likes the eley match and a 16" mtr barrel i have really likes a lot of sk standard plus i have
@@PursuitofAccuracy so this means, length got nothing to do with accuracy provided optics and not ironsights are used. Thanks! More power to you
@@jackstone2993 yes sir
Nice vid, dude. I've got on of the T's on order. Might I ask what kind of bipod you're using?
The bipod is an Atlas bt46
@@PursuitofAccuracy Thanks!
Great video! But I also noticed your scope, a Athlon. Which model do you have?
Athlon Cronus btr gen 2
Just waiting on the flat blade trigger shoe.
Yeah i hear that
I just picked up a 457 varmint in left hand and want this trigger but its a bit pricy right now.
Thanks
No problem
Good video. How is the Timney trigger working these days? It's been over a year since your original post. I read the posts below and saw where you had adjusted it down to the 5.4. Do you still have it set at 5.4? Have you checked it for slam fire?
Its still going strong. Its set around 8 ounces and no slam fires and very bump safe
Why did you change the weight?
@@jimreed6653 its been in and out of different chassis and being shot by different people.
Its not my main competition rifle so 8 ounces is just where it ended up at.
Have you ever tested the CZ 457 Proof barrels?
Can you provide details on the arca you installed? I notice it protrudes out of fore end. Does this induce movement via flexing when bipod is installed at the end and loaded? Thanks for vids!!
Its the area 419 weighted arca rail.
Its solid as a rock
I can’t get my factory trigger below 3 lb it’s so heavy
That was after adjusting. The timneys come set at 1lb
@@PursuitofAccuracy Thank you.
I did notice a slightly heavier lift at first. Its either smoothed out or i have got used to it and no longer notice
How many spacers do you have under your cheek riser?
The cat ♥️🐈
Lol
I’m trying to decide between timney flat blade and curved. Do you have a preference? It’s for a hunting rifle so freehand more than bench shooting.
I prefer flat shoes
@@PursuitofAccuracy that’s what I rolled with. It is in a manners vpt stock so the vertical grip drew me to try it. I can always try curved if I don’t like it but I noticed you’ve had both in your videos. Thanks for all the Cz content BTW!

Hi Josh
As I have told you in the past I have a CZ455 Varmit , I don’t know if you have had anything to do with the 455 but i though I would ask your advice as you love your CZ . I want to replace the trigger on my rifle I have fitted a yodave spring kit but find it still to heavy for me , I have been thinking about a CZ Fly weight assembly which I believe can be adjusted down to less than a pound , have you had any experience with them , I would go with a Timney but they aren’t available over here , Thanks Mate , Steve from Australia
I have not personally shot that trigger but i hear good things about it.
What is your opinion on carbon wrapped barrel for the CZ varmint 22lr. Also what model scope is on your CZ?
I dont like carbon wrapped barrels for precision shooting. They can get hot and change your poi.
