Back to the start! Ritual was one of the first songs Tobias wrote for Ghost and it was part of the famous upload to My Space. This is so basic it could be. Tobias wrote every note and all the lyrics. Recorded in a basement studio in Linköping with Tobias on guitar and keyboard, Ludvig Kennberg on drums and i think Gustav Lindström on bass. Simon Söderberg was the technician and Tobias produced the album under the moniker Gene Walker. Tobias still had his daytime job here because he and his wife had baby twins so it was recorded after 8 hour's of work and changing diapers at home on the kids when he could get a couple of hours to focus on this his new project. Good reaction. NEMA!
You guys are spot on in the analysis at 6:13. Tobias has said he wanted Ghost to sound like a band that had played in the 1960s and 70s. If wanna listen to one of their “re-releases” from the 1960s, check out Kiss the Go-Goat. 😉
My mom loves Ghost, she is turning 77 this July, we are going to see them live in a couple of days, we went to see them in Mexico 2020 in the arrival of Papa 4, all the concerts and bands I have seen, never witnessed such energy that night in Mexico ❤️🎶 take care you guys 🙏🏽 enjoying the analysis
What she said about the anti Lords prayer is exactly right with the bands typical themes and meanings. The dead human sacrifices also flips the Catholic communion on its head...if the eucharist (bread) represents the "body of Christ" then it's also "dead human sacrifices" on an altar. Ghost is all about that, but it's of course all theatrical. I think of it as a horror movie in music form. There are some Christian fans of Ghost that Ive seen. Ghost's lyrics are not meant to be taken literally for sure, the members are not Satanists.
As a Christian myself, I fully appreciate lyrics criticizing hypocrisy in the church because that really is a true evil. Also I can't imagine anyone really being a Satanist in earnest, but maybe I'm being naïve. Seems all theatrical and satirical more than truly promoting devil worship. Am I wrong?
@@FlameImperishable Most satanists I've seen and know don't have any religious grounding anyway, in a way the image of Satan is used by them for the shock factor, a counterculture statement and as a criticism of churches and really toxic practices of clerical higher ups. Also, if they guide the sinners and blasphemers to the devil, are they not doing the lord's will too in a twisted way~?
Listen to Stand By Him, a part of the same album as Ritual. Also it was conceptually the first song for Ghost, the riff and chord progression inspired Tobias to start the band.
Honestly, all of Opus is amazing. It sounds very different than their current stuff. Tobias is very good at writing catchy lyrics/phrases and Opus has a LOT of that. Elizabeth, Ritual, Con Clavi, Satan Prayer, etc. All on Opus!
I know I’m late but I think the guitar riff in the beginning is reminding you of Symphony of Destruction by Megadeath. I had the same feeling but I connected it to Guitar Hero for some reason. I chewed on that riff for a bit until the lyrics to SoD started rolling out. You take a mortal man And put him in control Watch him become a god Watch people’s heads a’roll
Not gonna lie: I do miss the more... doomy/slow kind of stuff they were doing in the beginning. Yes, they had doom metal elements there, which made sense. It's what made me a fan of the band. While they're no longer the band I remember, I still enjoy their tunes and had the pleasure of seeing them 3 times on stage.
Ghost is from my hometown Linköping. I 've spent a lot of time with this band, both off and on stage. So if there's anything you want to know about them....😊😊🤘
@@FlameImperishable Tobias is a funny guy for sure. He is also very polite and smart. A little timid sometimes. Off stage that is😊. Glad you're enjoying their music🤘
@@shortdude-xc1ok Tobias has stated on multiple occasions that that angle of the band's mythology is not to be taken seriously. (Tobias) has said several times their image is all tongue-in-cheek, citing that "We have no militant agenda. We are an entertainment group."[5] Infestissumam also deals with "how people relate to a deity or God, themes like submission and superstition, the horrors of being religious."[108] Additionally, a Nameless Ghoul said the second album is about "how mankind-predominantly men-what they have deemed to be the presence of the Devil, throughout history and even nowadays. And that’s why the record is so fueled with sexual themes and females ... the Inquisition was basically men accusing women of being the Devil just because they had a hard-on for them." This is well-represented in Kaisarion from the soon-to-be-released album which reads: "Kaisarion, a matter of love When Mother Earth is calling for a father up above Kaisarion, put on the smiles And throw your holy rocks right at her for her satanic wiles." Relax. Enjoy. Kiss The Go-Goat.
The ghost song Cirice is actually about the church hurting people with faith... One one level of meaning at least I mean their whole thing is. Just cirice really hammers down on it imo
You mentioned they seem to be inverting the Catholic image, and it's funny you say that. Their new song Kaisarion (being played live, with limited pre-release access) from Impera has a VERY pointed line about this very thing. I would love to see a react to Kaisarion when you are able to access it.
Idk how I feel about how some of the fans that have reached out to you have tried to gatekeep their sound and discredit the new stuff in favor of the old. They’ve always been pretty poppy. They never release the same kind of record twice. I get having preferences, but Opus and Infest era Ghost fans tend to be a little averse to change. Not that I blame them, I think infest is probably their second best album.
Yeah there’s a few instances where it works well. I still love the Metallica acoustic guitar fade in and fade out bookends on “to live is to die” . It wouldn’t be the same without it.
I think Tobias is just showing how fables can be twisted. He knows many people take this stuff seriously and he's tweaking them. But on a serious note, he has looked at some of the evil things religion has perpetuated throughout the centuries. The control of other people through belief systems has been a scourge on mankind since we've been walking upright.

ha, that's awesome! I think it'd be fun to introduce them to my dad.

“Year zero” is peak evil ghost. Enjoying your guys reactions 🔥
It's been a blast! Glad to hear people are enjoying it! Year Zero is a hotly requested song!
Definitely Give Year Zero A listen Definitely 🎶

Hey guys. Our boys are nominated for Grammy's. Congratulations..
Love the Ghouls and Ghosts game in the background. It’s pretty fitting lol

oh man, Elizabeth is a must. I used to be obsessed with Cruelty and the Beast from CoF.

And put him in control
Watch him become a god

I presented Ghost to my grandma, she's christian. She loved. She doesn't speak english, though. Anyway, she loves Ghost.
I showed my dad, He Is, and he loved it. Of course, why wouldn't anyone absolutely love that song?

Best intro ever!

They mix rock and pop into some really great music. Thier concerts are called rituals .
hard game to finish!!
Yup, definitely alcos
Its not like they fade it out live guys lol. They crush every song exit. Fantastically and even comedically at times haha
Now a fade out live would actually be pretty dang cool!
@@FlameImperishable i could see them doing that as a joke, honestly.

Caesar and Cleopatra = Christian? ...wait about 400+ years for that one :-P
You have to react to Elisabeh its amazing, great videos…
Elizabeth Bathory was not a nice lady! We'll have to do that one next!
I re-watched your reaction for Ritual. You're still interesting to listen to. :-)
I watched it the first time you released it of course.
AW thanks man, we’re just having fun with it! Looking forward to when they release new songs in the future!
@Flame Imperishable Great! And your music is great as well! 👍
Appreciate your kind words!! ❤️
I like how the arcade game had a game that was named ghouls and ghost 😂
Ghost - Zenith is a good one.. 🔥

Hey that’s a great idea! We tried it in one video and should bring it back!
12:27: You go for the Elvis look and take 'em to the river... ;-D
Normally I would agree with your take on fade outs, Jason. But there are songs where it's appropriate. Rainbow's Stargazer for example.
Yeah there’s a few instances where it works well. I still love the Metallica acoustic guitar fade in and fade out bookends on “to live is to die” . It wouldn’t be the same without it.
Man I just listened to stargazer again. What a great song! The fade out works well!
@@FlameImperishable I still contend that Stargazer is one of the best metal songs ever, and one of the greatest vocal performances of all time.
It’s been a long time since I listened to Rainbow. Time I should rekindle that! Long live rock and roll was one of my all time favorite albums ever!
Do "Stand By Him", "Absolution", "Pinnacle To The Pit", "Kiss The Go-Goat"
I’ve heard pinnacle to the pit and I love that song! Wouldn’t be a first reaction for me but still worth doing!
megadeth symphony of destruction is the song your thinking of
Tobias has an interview where he talks about a teacher who docked points off his grade because of religion.
If you like to hear some Early things if ghost check out elizabeth and stand by him
If you listen to the inverted Lord’s Prayer the last word NEMA is AMEN backwards
Huh, and I thought he was talking about the National Electronic Manufacturers Association! 😬
IThe riff is more like Megadeath.

can? Are being twisted. What we do :-(
And no you're thinking of megadeath.
You two blab way too much without saying much. I had to move on. Geesh.
the main intro riff is reminiscent of Symphony Of Destruction - Megadeth.
Their big shot at Christianity is "Rats". Catchy song, fun video, but if you pay attention to the lyrics, Christians are the "rats" he's referring to.
