I think Tobias would love this reaction channel. You guys are A+ on with the theory, lyrical analysis, and humor every time. Nobody ever catches the “bewitch/ be with”. 😉 Also! Tom Dalgety was the producer for this album. He was nominated for a Grammy for his production work on this album.
It's kind of funny that I can tell when someone hasn't watched the more than 3 minutes of the video because they complain we didn't catch the bewitch/be with pun! :)
Fun fact. Tobias originally thought that this song wasn't for Ghost but was perfect for someone else and try to convince his writing partners to give it away. But they said it's a Ghost song and they started to work on it together and sure it's a real gem. Prequelle is a theme album about The Black Death and is best listened to from start to finish but every song has so much quality you could listen to them separately also. Dance Macabre deals with when they got the disease they party and dance all night because they're going to die and wants to go out happy.
The Swedish thing really lends a unique element to the sound overall. The vocal harmonies. He unabashedly digs ABBA, and their influence is all over those harmonies.
This is one of the most fun rock songs I’ve heard in a very long time. As a musician I really appreciate the brilliance of Ghost. Ghost is resurrecting Hard Rock for a new generation and making it cool again.
I agree, but sadly it looks like they are listening on Spotify. Spotify truly has the worst quality of music. Their algorithm for discovery of new music might be top notch, but the quality is just not good.
@@gargaduk my Spotify premium is a priority expense for me. I cannot live without my music, and the quality on Spotify premium is juuuuust fine for me. 😁
To answer your question. Tobias plays all guitars on the first four albums. (Except nylon guitar on Helvetesfönster and the solo on Year Zero. But on the upcoming Impera album Fredrik Åkesson from Opeth has takes over that part because Tobias just doesn't have time. Fredrik and Tobias are friends. You need to understand that Ghost is only Tobias Forge. It's not a band it's like Alice Cooper or Ozzy Osbourne.
*We are happy that you are enjoying ghost and that you like his journey through his songs, the first album is called opus eponymous, you should hear something from that album, greetings from México* 🇲🇽
To be fair... Tobias has an outstanding ear for melody... From vocal harmonies to guitar solos he just has a gift that plants that melody straight into your mind... The cover of "if you have ghosts" is a perfect example of how to create a melodic masterpiece from an obscure song but also make that cover a musical gem at the same time 🖤🖤🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thank you so much! What a nice comment! :) I love guessing how songs were originally composed and how it might happen if I had written it based on my normal workflow!
@@FlameImperishable Im gonna be home for 3 months with a broken knee that im ot supposed to walk on alot so i need something to make me sit in the soofa
I believe everything was recorded by him, including the solos, in this song for sure. With the exception of a few of the instrumental tracks which featured the lead singer of Opeth on the strings.
@ 6:21 you mention the counter-point melody the background singers are doing. The best part of this is what they're singing... I don't wanna end like this (Cataclysm) But there's a sting in the way you kiss me (Armageddon)
Indeed, tobias forge is the brain 100% of the band, he writes and plays the instruments in the studio, his musicians just follow the steps to get the scene ready in the show...
I exercise my calf muscle by tapping it through all Ghost songs!! Check out older Ghost. The album, Infestissumam, has some rocking music... Learn the roots that all these newer songs come from!!
Yes! I know exactly what you mean. I'm that way with early Blind Guardian, Opeth, Soilwork, In Flames stuff even though they sound barely recognizable to their newer stuff. Still you catch glimpses of their roots!
My friend Invited me to one of their concerts back in Febuary and i only listened to a few songs to get a feel and i could tell i would like them then waited. I enjoyed their songs but this Song resonated something inside me. I knew that they just skyrocketed up my personal favorites Bands. Watching this song live is an experience. But I've been watching your reactions (specifically to the Ghost ones atm) and I like your breakdowns of them. You put into words of what my hindbrain picks up on. And I'm Glad your enjoying them and their unique style.

Omg, when she says that he sounds like an Italian guy saying I want to be witch you, I nearly fell out of my chair. That's hilariously accurate! But it's just Tobias Forge being his genius self. Hail Satan!
As a member of the congregation , I have to say that we are not giving the ghouls credit due. TB writes the music for every instrument, but in general, others play it.
I'm watching this now....so far you missed the Bewitch you part...the pun is the best part...cause it sounds like be with you. But it's bewitch you...cause it's Ghost lol
@@FlameImperishable right on...enjoying your stuff so far guys. I just recently got into Ghost myself and am blown away. Also I can't find much of your music on UA-cam do you have a link to any? I'd like to check you guys out.
I'm pretty sure this channel will be huge someday. When that happens, come back here and remember this comment. hahaha.. Great reactions, guys, for real! As a Ghost fan I really enjoy the way you listent and feel the music. Keep doing the good work!
Thanks Filipe! That is so encouraging to hear! :) I'd say the only thing negative about doing these reaction videos is I can't just go ahead and immerse myself in all of their music immediately. Saving each individual song for a reaction video is still worth it though! Kind of like enjoying an excellent wine, one small sip at a time. :D

Tobias said he wrote this song about living during the black plague. Some folks partied like there was no tomorrow. Hence the party sound.

The Journey song you're thinking of is Dont Stop Believin'.
That counterpoint background vocal melody is two words: "Cataclysm" and "Armageddon." This is fitting, as the song is about the Black Plague.

The Journey lyrics you're referencing are from "Don't Stop Believing," but the concepts you're talking about are from "Separate Ways"
The lore of Ghost is an Interesting rabbit hole

Too many pauses
Stopping the song at every transition negates the impact of its essence. Stop doing that and listen.
