Everytime I feel like it might be too much for me to handle, I see the young lady managing the recoil like a champ. Love the Vids, I come here when I'm researching my next purchase.
The 4.25" Anaconda is a beautiful revolver that is very well balanced for it's size and caliber. A very good option for a woods gun, especially if you live in an area that has Mountain Lions or Bears hanging around.
Great review! I am planning to get the 8" for Christmas. I am tempted to go with the 4 1/4" and to try to carry it, mostly with .44 special. Of course, no rule against getting both! Thanks for showing the 4.25 inch and reviewing it Sir!
The wood grips on the 4 inch Anaconda just sold me on this handgun. Been looking for a 44 and am not willing to pay scalper prices for a vintage Model 29, especially with how they wear down quickly firing full magnum loads. The 4 inch on this seems perfect. I have a 6 inch 586 and I find a full lug 6 inch gun too front heavy.
I have a 6” Anaconda that I thoroughly enjoy shooting. I can’t imagine the increase in recoil with the shorter barrel, but hey, Mom looked pretty good with it!
I had the older Anaconda until somebody made me an offer I couldn’t refuse and it had the Hogue grips on it. With magnum loads the gun was trying to jump out of my hands I would have thought the wood grips would give you even less recoil control. They look real cool though. If I bought a new Anaconda and carried it for possible social work I would either load it with real mild magnum hollow points or hotter loaded 44 special HP’s. Years ago I also owned a S&W 629 6-1/2” barrel Power Port (compensated) which is no longer in production. That gun was much easier and pleasant to shoot. Edit: My boss back in the 1990’s had a 44 magnum pretty sure it was S&W and think it had a 10-5/8” inch barrel. It was so front heavy holding it on target was a challenge but it sure tamed the recoil.
I carry the 4" S&W Model 57 .41 Magnum Mountain Gun in the Craft Roto Shoulder Holster for my Fall and Winter CCW. The 57 Mtn Gun was my last "Unobtainium Unicorn" gun and I found it NIB in January, leaving one unicorn left. The 4.25 Python. But now I'm thinking the 4.25 Anaconda.......thanks! Thanks a lot. LOL Spring and Summer CCW is between the S&W Model 19-3 2.5" or the M&P 2.0 9mm 4" I'm 61 and the Colt vented rib make those two guns beyond beautiful. I just wish they would put them out blued like the first time I fell in love with the looks of the Python. Been a S&W revolver guy my entire life but always wanted the 4" Python. Nice review. Thanks!
Proper holster, I’d conceal carry a 4 inch 44 mag anyday! Personally I feel 6” even 8” barrels really say “old world gunsmithing”…. Makes me think of Cpt. Jack Sparrow’s .50 cal English pistol. Obviously Dirty Harry (Model 29) and Broken butterfly from Reaident evil 4! This was a great review! Keep up the good work bro!
Love watching your reviews and seeing the difference in recoil control for each caliber. Been thinking of getting myself a revolver specifically for my hikes, camping, backpacking and it’s been between this Anaconda 4.25 or the 3inch Python. Just want something that has the power to take down a predator and just a blast to shoot at the range also.
Thank you very much. I appreciate your kind words. If I had to pick between the Anaconda or Python for trail carry I would go with the Anaconda. It would be more efficiently against larger predators and you can run .44 Special for social carry.
I had a 6" and just never got comfortable with it. Sold it and got the 4.25" (bead blast finish) and its like a different world. Better balance, quicker back on target, and if you use one, clears the holster quicker. Recoil with specials is negligible, with magnums its hefty but not much more than the longer barrel and the maneuverability is worth it. good video and review
Yeah I remember the interview but not the name of the cop. The shooting was in the 1980’s with some Mariel boat lift drug dealer. I think he hit him with all six rounds and the dude still kept fighting for a bit before he realized he was dead.
The Colt Anaconda has been a Grail Gun of mine for 30 years. I just picked up a 4.25-inch Anaconda yesterday, after watching Kamala certify Trump's victory. I figured it was a pretty good way to start this year off right. I got the 4.25-inch for all the reasons mentioned; it has the best balance of pack-ability and performance. But aside from that, the Colt Anaconda checks all the boxes. It is well made, looks good, and feels good. I spend a lot of time in bear country, but I am not convinced this isn't an option for street carry as well. I was never a fan of the mouse guns. My other carry gun is a Glock 20. Yeah, I love me some 10mm, too! Of course, that means I am a fan of Double Tap Ammunition, and of Mike McNet.
@MTMILITIAMAN7.62 I watched that on TV as well and it was epic. You picked an excellent way to celebrate. I agree the Anaconda can be an EDC for sure, especially with some Doubletap. 44 Special.
Used to live down the road from you a piece in Shelby, but ended up here in Wyoming, dont have to worry too much about two-legged varmints up here, but this looks like it would be perfect for the four-legged variety.
Thanks for the review, helped me decide on the 4.25 barrel. Now all I have left is whether to go for the polished or the matte stainless. Or should I wait for the Royal Blue that will be available soon⁉️😵💫
You are very welcome. If I had the option of blued that is where I would go but I am not sure when Colt will release this in blued. I like the polished stainless over the matte personally.
Hunter,I really like your reviews.I can tell you really know what makes a nice handgun.I own a Bruin thanks to you and I love it. This year I hope to get a four inch anaconda. After tax season and paying Uncle Sam,I will hopefully be able to come up with cash for a new Colt. Don't buy cheap guns, right? Good advice.
Hey Hunter, is the actual trigger shoe a smidge different on the Anaconda vs Python? I've not seen an Anaconda in person but on video it looks a little different. Outside the rear sight, only complaint I've ever experienced w/the Python is the trigger felt squared off. When shot a bunch, from the first joint forward on my trigger finger at least, a nerve got squirrely and didn't feel the best. I've heard others experiencing the same...certainly not everyone, but enough I don't feel alone in the world. Just wondering if the Anaconda trigger is a bit wider or more comfortable as compared to the Python? If yes, it may be better for us boney handed folks and I'd be interested in calling Colt to see if that's a swappable part. Anyway, beautiful revolver, excellent review, Thanks & God Bless.
Not sure if you're a ruger guy but the old security six models are hard to beat. Very pretty and shoot quite well, can't go wrong with a 4" gun 357. Or 44.

Your content was very enjoyable! I liked and subscribed. I'm adding your podcast to my "go-to's" for guns (Hickock-45, etc.). You obviously know what you're talking about! I'm a "Smith revolver" guy, but I've always wanted a Python, but I've seen videos that rave about the Anaconda '44 compared to the Smith M-29 and the Anaconda walked away from the Smith in quality! I can't get over that Smith "internal lock" especially on the Performance Center guns. I'm trying to consolodate my ammo to just .357 and .308, but jeez, that Anaconda is just to cool and a must have! As far as quality goes, in your opinion, does the Python rival the Anaconda for fit and finish? I'll be checking out more of your podcasts! Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much. I appreciate your kind words and welcome aboard. As far as that S&W internal lock I am with you. That is ridiculous. In my opinion the Python and Anaconda are very similar in quality and finish. I have shot several examples of both and they were all excellent. With that said, I think I prefer the Anaconda just because I really like the .44 Magnum/.44 Special.
Everytime I feel like it might be too much for me to handle, I see the young lady managing the recoil like a champ. Love the Vids, I come here when I'm researching my next purchase.

I love when he says that the 44 special "is gooood medicine for a two legged critter"..lol
Good to see you and the crew out enjoying that piece. Your mom is a hoot, looks like you slipped a magnum into her 44 specials. Take care.
Oh she asked me to try one so I loaded a single .44 Mag for her to try.
Thank you very much my friend.

I agree with you on the longer barrels being front heavy.
Wow! A pistol that shoots as good as it looks!
definitely wood grips on any colt revolver wood and stainless is such a beautiful look
This is a good carry option for people who live and work around big critters. Awesome review.

It is noticeable over the 6" but not bad.

Excellent. Thank you very much.
Must have been sleeping for this video. Happy to watch your videos man. Got my python because of your video. Might need an anaconda now.

Wilson Combat steel adjustable rear sight is an upgrade over the Colt Anaconda and Python 2020 improved versions.
I have heard about that but I am hoping for a fixed sight option.
I have them on my Python. No doubt a big improvement!

The 240gr hardcast by a little over the 300gr hardcast, but to be honest that 300gr was hard to shoot from a rest.
