Not to mention, the senator clearly hasn’t got even a remote clue regarding the subject matter. He literally doesn’t even know what Facebook is.
No. He’s asking mark to give any evidence that Facebook is not a monopoly. FB buys all its competition, but if Zuckerberg can name one competitor that does what Facebook as a whole does, then evidently FB does not buy all its competition. Zuckerberg could not name a company because he does in fact buy out the competition
This is just stupid, everyone can already tell" how lacking the Congress is on technology. I was actually curious at first about what's the general situation is about... But after hearing that man comparing an App to a Car I just lost all hope for humanity.
depends what you mean when you say competition. everyone uses the app for different aspects of its service. for example, im sure facebook doesn't have a monopoly on messaging since thats more of snapchats thing. It does however have a monopoly on FACEBOOK (and yes instagram too but thats not the point). the point is that the metaphor the senetor uses doesn't really work because the two cars he mentioned doesn't really have much of a different in terms of usage purposes (simple way to say it is it gets you from point A to point B). HOWEVER, if the senetor used the metaphor of Tesla and a Ford, THEN it would make more sense because Tesla and Ford overlap in terms of geting from point A to point B but Tesla is electric while Ford is gas and DEPENDING ON THE PERSON'S PREFRENCE FOR THOSE PERTICULAR ASPECTS OF THE CAR, the person will choose one or the other. If you use the same logic the Senator is using, every company is a monopoly of its own company.
I agree. Everyone here is defending ol' zucc but he really weaselled his way out of that. "There are different communication apps like texting".... mhm. Only instagram provides a similar service to fb, and hol' up... you *own* that...
The thing I don’t get is- Facebook isn’t vital to human day-to-day survival. Why aren’t we going after real estate fat cats and calling out their monopolies?? Here in California, you need 4 jobs to pay the rent (and every job would prefer to have you part-time and it be your only job.)
@@alwaysyouramanda probably because if fb holds a monopoly, it's global. These "real estate fat cats" possess far less power than facebook. It is good that world governments are (at least trying) to reign him and his company in.
I don't think Facebook is a monopoly. A monopoly should be a basic product or a service, that people has no other choice, apart from consuming or buying it. For example, if there are no other gas pumps other than the ones owned by the Government, then the Government has a monopoly over gas distribution. But people do not have to consume (or use) Facebook in order to survive, it is not even a basic necessity. Just my two cents.

Its cringe when politicians wont let the person talk or answer the questions that they were asked. From my view, they should just have him sit in the middle of the room while they all lecture him on their points then he just leaves. This is why people turn to other platforms to actually have a discussion.
Hey, I’m no Zuckerberg fan, but this has to be the most annoying interview I’ve ever watched. Ask a question then interrupt before he even begins to answer. Over and over. Wasting everyone’s time.
Not to mention, the senator clearly hasn’t got even a remote clue regarding the subject matter. He literally doesn’t even know what Facebook is.
1:01 woman laughing behind the senator lol 😂
0:35 He is literally asking Mark to promote competitor lol

But after hearing that man comparing an App to a Car I just lost all hope for humanity.
Facebook does have a monopoly. Twitter is not your competition, it’s a completely different service.
depends what you mean when you say competition. everyone uses the app for different aspects of its service. for example, im sure facebook doesn't have a monopoly on messaging since thats more of snapchats thing.
He was trying to explain that about twitter but congress only accepts yes or no answers.
Senator: Are you a human?
Zucc: I think parts of me are.
These old timey senators should have come prepared for the questioning and not act like big shot
Kandi Sofia Dahlan
Monopoly
Thank you
But you don't need gas in order to live too..
Bad analogy
Gas is not necessary for survival either. The product being necessary for survival is not a requirement of a monopoly.

FB isn’t a monopoly because it’s business is diversified and hard to define (unlike “cars”). However it’s far larger than nearly every company that has ever existed. So it absolutely needs to be broken up.
I love how they aren’t even really asking Facebook specific questions they’re just asking internet questions
