There are three different types of cookies that websites can make which stores almost of all your metadata and can get information from your computer or device. First off you have Session cookies which only stores on the session. The second and biggest that can be abused by any websites or app is called a permanent or persistent which is saved and stored on your computer so even if you clear your browser's data and website data, websites, and programs can still access that cookie and get even more info. Last but not least is Third-Party Cookies which almost all websites and programs use to get your data from websites and such. So in more of a technology since you don't even need to allow or input data in order for websites to get it. People need to understand this and the simple fact that once you're on the internet there is actually no real, complete privacy. The internet is a globalization which people need to understand. The human world is heading towards a global society which people need to understand and prepare for, but as time goes on and the older humans get they tend to hate change and are very stubborn about it.
When you download an app, at least on Google Play it tells you before you download, that the app may have access to your phone calls, texts, pictures, location, etc. Its YOUR responsibility to be able to decide how much information youre willing to share. As much as I hate facebook it really seems to me that this hearing is pointless considering a good number of these questions are coming from people who are out of touch with technology. You have to be old or gullible to be dumb enough to let your info be so easily accessible.
cookies/ google ad service collecting your info. google ad service is used by a lot of website so they show similar results. someone correct if I am wrong. but that's what i know about this
CocoPlayer yeah maybe your right but when you travel to a place to much it actually knows how long it will take to get there or sends you a notification. Then what's that?
Yeah, google does record your voice too when you said "ok google" or accidentaly pressed the voice search. You can check your voice activity by log in on *myactivity.google.com* , then search in voice category. The funny thing is when you play one of your voice history, you'll hear your own voice before you said "Ok google".. So yes, they listen to you all the time, wkwk. And also you can check your own history of everything you did with your smartphone that connected with google then delete or disable that if you want to, have fun..
would be easier if Zuckerberg himself would use the correct terms instead of AI machine learning and AI are not the same thing everything done by Facebook by now is deep learning - nothing more
Definitions are always important. I find it interesting that in policy and legal documents, they always define terms. But in hearings, there's no attempt at establishing a baseline for common understanding. ESPECIALLY jargon. At the surface, I can see why artificial intelligence and machine learning sound like synonyms and might be discussed as such. I think Zuckerberg understood what the congressman meant, and rolled with it. When you're in a hearing, its ill advised to constantly correct the people questioning you.
Quarknjaguar Machine learning is a large part of AI. Therefore, if you use deep learning or any other machine learning tool, it's not incorrect to refer to it as AI. It's simply a broader term, which is more relevant to the discussion at hand since the congressman wasn't only talking about deep learning. Also, don't pretend you know what algorithms Facebook does and does not use; that information isn't even available.
Why? Because they have to gather information about us to sell to advertisers (which these companies are pretty open about if you actually read the TOS) to get the money they're owed for providing an expensive service to us that we refuse to willingly pay for? Nothing is free, but everyone feels entitled to free stuff and free services, even though they have every right to charge us a subscription fee for these services, they don't because moochers will complain about "greed" and leave the site, so instead of directly charging us what we owe, they sell our information to recoup the cost of providing said services plus a the profit they're entitled to for their work, that's the deal we all agreed to when we created our accounts and started using these social media websites, that's capitalism, and it's beautiful!
They don’t listen but Siri does. In order to figure out if you said “Hey Siri/Alexa” the audio feed from your microphone needs to be listening constantly. What you say is too complex to be parsed on your phone so the audio is transmitted to a server, I think in Nevada, where it is parsed. So the company that parses what you said can then sell that data linked by your Facebook id to an ad agency that then uses it to target you directly on Facebook. So no in a legal sense it is not Facebook themselves that does the listening. Everything is ultimately linked together behind the scenes while each individual entity is protected behind a web of Eula’s designed to make sure the users have no recourse.
*1.* Privacy is a human right. *2.* Having nothing to hide is not true nor realistic. Don’t confuse privacy with secrecy. I know what you do in the bathroom, but you still close the door. That’s because you want privacy, not secrecy. *3.* Information in the wrong hands becomes dangerous. *4.* You can’t predict the future. *5.* Your information has value.
Welcome to an ecosystem where the moment your child is born today, they make sure that it will join FB and be the victim of hyperactivity and impulsive buying behaviour. Algorithms, Machine learning models running in plain sights are designed to hook you up, giving you that shot of dopamine that will leave you on FB for hours, because the content is new every time you log in. If I am wrong, ask yourself how is FB is still in existence at present? Because there business model involves new content feed system which will get you hooked and increase hyperactivity and useless stuff that you don't wanna buy. Think about it, it's your child's future on the line.
Rahul Singh Yadav I agree with you. I thought it was interesting when they were asking him about research in rises of dopamine and how to increase that dopamine high so ppl become more addicted to fb and the internet in general. Did you hear them talk about that during the testimony?

Does congress not think cellular companies collect data through messenger services? The backup data services are on by default by many large companies like Verizon, Att. Metadata is worth billions and every company is trying it's best to get it's hands on it. Every major company does this not just facebook.
Im always amazed how shameless the US gov is in accusing people and big companys for things they do themselves boldly and openly... i dont even want to start about the stuff they do in secret...
Right Derek JCG lol. It's like why don't people answer other people's questions directly? A: Because they're hiding something. B: Because they want to bring forth another point/idea (thus, eluding they are hiding something) or C: Because they don't understand the question. And C'mon 'C' doesn't make sense for someone like Mark. Hell! I can figure out why most people do what they do, so he definitely should be able to understand and answer all of these questions.
Zuckerberg is great at answering questions he wants to be answered and avoiding questions whose answers he wants to conceal. Even a whole gang of senators can't crack him down . There's just no outsmarting this guy.
Oh yes you do!!! I am not even on facebook but answer me this.. when I talked about buying a reciprocating saw to my wife why does an advert come up for one on HER phone on facebook!???
No they don‘t delete your data, last month i deactivated facebook, afther 2 weeks i returned back. So what‘s happend? My old messages i deleted 2,3 or 4 years ago, are still available for me to read them in my messenger, and i can if i wish to answer them to the people i wrote few years ago.. afther this i deactivated facebook again, i hope one day the will shut it down, and Zuck is gonna have to work at McDonalds.
The real story is the lack of awareness/insight the senators had and the shallow/brief questions that occurred. They would have been better off with a handful of competent experts asking the questions rather than giving everyone a shot for a couple of moments. They were so caught up with time constraints that when they finally cornered Mark into a corner where he needed to contemplate a response, time was up and the issues changed with next examiner. On another point, they looked star struck to have the opportunity to speak to Mark. He was so comfortable in his answers and this is due to the style of the enquiry. This was a strong sign that tech companies will always be so far ahead of law makers that they will reign supreme at all times. The process was concerning and congress has as much to answer for in relation to the poor examination as Mark under oath as does FB itself.
One day I was speaking to my colleague about a special kind of soup which I had a chinese restaurant called "choy sum soup".... I never googled it.... Suddenly I started receiving ads about a nearby Chinese restaurant with served those.... *Weird... Guess what? They do have access to your microphone* 😱

Older humans ? What are you a gerbil?
This guy unintentionally ruined the world and profited off it. Idc what anyone says
I was talking about a brake disc with my step-father, 10 minutes later facebook shows me a brake disc for sale on my feed.
Y'all should be grateful that things are laying right in front of your lap.
I was shopping online for some basketball shoes then a day later I got an ad about the same exact shoes I was looking at lol
How helpful..!! Lol
Cookies right ?
I just tested it and it actually have microphone in it... Was surprised lol..
But you didnt explain why what you talk about can suddenly show up as an add??This happens to me all the time??How is this happening??
Every modern sites does these. When you search in Amazon they pop out on Facebook explain that.
Felix S. Its cookies..
Research bridge company that combines them all.
cookies/ google ad service collecting your info. google ad service is used by a lot of website so they show similar results. someone correct if I am wrong. but that's what i know about this
CocoPlayer yeah maybe your right but when you travel to a place to much it actually knows how long it will take to get there or sends you a notification. Then what's that?
You can turn this function off , I did and the ads have stopped
I like this senator.
Its the fbi or cia that is watching through your camera right now :)
I hope they’re enjoying the millions of double chins lol
Its mostly the NSA ..
Well I hope they like seeing my dead face lolz
That's why when I think about it I flip off my camera..lol. Then carry on
@@randomyoutubeperson6954 no doubt!! LOL
When I got a red vine ad on Facebook, I knew something was up
So basic the tech is broken
Yeah, google does record your voice too when you said "ok google" or accidentaly pressed the voice search. You can check your voice activity by log in on *myactivity.google.com* , then search in voice category. The funny thing is when you play one of your voice history, you'll hear your own voice before you said "Ok google".. So yes, they listen to you all the time, wkwk.
And also you can check your own history of everything you did with your smartphone that connected with google then delete or disable that if you want to, have fun..
Fajar Setyadi are you from wkwk land
My son told me he wanted mcdonalds and 3 seconds later I got an ad for mcdonalds on youtube
Fucc Facebook!!!!!
Zucc* lol
I don't get what's wrong with the personalized ads
The easiest way to get rid of someone who catches them is to call them a "conspiracy theorist"
You are simply the best
would be easier if Zuckerberg himself would use the correct terms instead of AI
machine learning and AI are not the same thing
everything done by Facebook by now is deep learning - nothing more
Definitions are always important.
They sold our data? Where to do we sign up for lawsuit? Those suns a beeches needs 2 pay!!!! and pay big.
Shut it down
Steppin Razor not gonna happen lol
Steppin Razor that isn't a good solution lol - google does the same thing and so do other companies lol
He's not under oath for any of this, it's a charade.
1:56 "We listen to what's going on in your microphone and use that for ads"
lmao thats the part media will cut out to make him look bad
then after that “we don’t do that”
Except facebook does exactly that. The snake is lying.
Best answer I have seen yet
just delete facebook. someone else will come along and make better platform.
MEWE is a better platform ... far far better.
It's called Myspace.
PREACH!
Try Vero
Man I want Orkut back
*1.* Privacy is a human right.
????????????????
Rahul Singh Yadav I agree with you. I thought it was interesting when they were asking him about research in rises of dopamine and how to increase that dopamine high so ppl become more addicted to fb and the internet in general. Did you hear them talk about that during the testimony?
Rahul Singh Yadav dude ur on UA-cam, its even worse than fb
Idk, I was talking about 4 Lokos and I started to see 4 Loko ads on FB
Snowden exposed what happens. Never forget
Had my device in my pocket the other day speaking to a co-worker about the benefits of fiber in your diet, and my device started talking about the same thing, tell me this crap isn't surveiling us
This my first time seeing mark on suit 😂
Definitely not surprised by this. Bill Gates said that internet would get this point. Long time ago.
well if they're using a neural network then technically even they don't know how the decisions are made?
you don't need to listen in for audio, you have our spotify playlist information.
so they do listen. That sucks no more Facebook on my cell phone no more Facebook at all a computer is more capable to do smarter things than the cell phone imagine the kind of information they getting from us using or owns computers.
Where can I watch the full thing of this
Why doesn’t Zuckerberg actually answer anything? It’s always just changing the topic and saying stuff that’s completely just unrelated.
It's how liars speak
He wasn't programmed to
He acted the same way in the movie... He works with computers and logic. So he a sound in putting up a fine sounding argument. Philosophy: Its all about Input to Output. Nothing else matters to him except getting the right answer to solve problems.
Uninstall Facebook app and use a mobile browser for Facebook.
Liar liar pants on fire!
Does congress not think cellular companies collect data through messenger services? The backup data services are on by default by many large companies like Verizon, Att. Metadata is worth billions and every company is trying it's best to get it's hands on it. Every major company does this not just facebook.
Im always amazed how shameless the US gov is
in accusing people and big companys for things they do themselves boldly and openly...
i dont even want to start about the stuff they do in secret...
That it goes in the direction that WE WANT... he said it!
omg he is so nervous
Yusra K his human suit looks pretty uncomfortable
Yusra K he has aspergus
No that lizard is trying to be human
It's not outsmarting when the man goes "oh I don't know!" For every single answer 🤣🤣🤣🤣
But, they could scold him so that he got a stutter, and then truth will come out by his body language that he does bad things..
sooo what about google and amazon...
Oh yes you do!!! I am not even on facebook but answer me this.. when I talked about buying a reciprocating saw to my wife why does an advert come up for one on HER phone on facebook!???
They say when a person looks in different directions when listening or speaking they’re lying because they’re self conscious about it.
So how do ads pop up for things your only talking about?
It certainly does. It's right in the permissions... it needs access to your MICROPHONE and Camera.
Avery Haqq But people are way too ignorant to understand that
Avery Haqq They need that permission for video's.
Easy solution. Ditch all social media and call someone you care about.
Liar!!
Can you please provide evidence?
Shouts out to the fact that the microphone data and the "I talked about it and got an ad" is completely Google and they're just keeping quiet
That's so messed up, facebook leaks our privacy?!!
Athir Ashrar No they sell it. How else does this guy make billions, off a free service? Sending you ads?!
Not only that...but it spys on you...It knows more than you know about yourself
Athir Ashrar you’re not very clever aren’t you
Athir Ashrar Let's assume they do listen. Who cares? It's ai anyway. It's not a real human listening.
Athir Ashrar harvesting your data isnt privacy its no privacy.
The face on the 2 people when he says mega data, think you mean meta data
Of course they do. I talked to my wife about a camera a couple times and the next day I had an ad for cannon.
Mr.peters coming with the good questions
Did we all forget that the CIA gave Suckaberg an Award?! WHO GETS AWARDS FROM THE CIA??? and WHY?!
Thats not true i know for a fact that instagram knows what you was talking about during the day. For example: i talked with a friend about snowboards the first time in years and a few hours later we see snowboard and snowboard aparrel ads
That absolutely happens!
The like detector determined....that was a lie.
Why is Nicolas Cage there?
Me and my wife where talking about switching insurance carriers. I log into FB and see an ad for the one and only insurance company in my small town of less than 500 people. WTF??? No way that was coincidence.
They are listening. Sent a vn on WhatsApp about a product and 2min later it's on my news feed as an ad for me to purchase smh
It’s like trying to explain Facebook to my parents
