I bought this 2000 Cadillac Crystal Coach Hearse at Copart Salvage Auction with Mechanical Damage. The bid was super cheap but in the end it ended up costing over $1000 to get rid of it. I also bought a Twin Turbo V8 BMW 550i with a locked up engine, I tried starting it anyway.

Hi Sam, as the hearse had a spare, why didn't you put it on?
Dude this is a great question. A terrific question.
@@Samcrac would the lugs line up?
Lmao
He didn't think about it
It's one of those things
Because if he puts the spare on he still then has no spare in the event of another blow out. Spare is only a temporary solution
@@Squishington3rd It looked like a full sized spare. probably same wheel as the ones on the ground.

Still nice to look at, but the price you end up paying is just not worth it.

American Versions of German Cars are so Crap. And those high performance cars get abused like crazy and don't get maintenance
Haha nice
Rofl i love how he avoided using the word "coffin" the whole time.
straycatnip Probably ‘casket’ would be the word he’s avoiding in the USA?
@@markbennett6658 either word is used regularly in the US, at least in the Northeast where I am.
Why would he use the word coffin or casket in this scenario?
really
Coffin is UA-cam demonetization trigger word
This happened to a friend of mine when his car had 65K miles and he called bmw HQ and bitched about it they ended up giving him a discount on a long block instead of paying 7600 for a long block he got the engine from the dealership next to him for 3500 and payed a thousand dollars to get it installed it’s an amazing car
He mentions a long block, then he states getting the old heads reconditioned. A short block would require fixing the old heads, but a long block includes new heads.
Oh man I wish you had that Hearse in Chicago. I had a spare nitrous kit for it!
I’m sure if you chained it to something heavy and drove away it would tear it in half.
Turn your old Escalade into a lifted off-road killer!!
i've worked on hearses and they smell like embalming fluid. The most sickening was the coroner's car. It smelled like old dried blood and had spatters of blood on the floors and headliner.
Just change the engine
I mean swap
I really like the behind the scenes aspect of the video. Nice job. We all love the content and watching things get fixed but getting there is part of the challenge.
Thanks 👍
Absolutely.... not everything is profit!
That hearse needed a hearse for itself!

Superior Coach has been making specialty vehicles for 90 years. I had one that was a 1965 Pontiac Bonneville Hearse with a 421 engine... What a blast that was to drive to the junk yards picking up muscle car parts.!!
Hi Sam. That might have been my old car. If so it was stolen last year. After recovery the Insurance company had deemed the car beyond repairable and Totaled the vehicle. It always leaked oil (would have to add a quart of oil very often) and had battery issues all the time. Though the car is beautiful and very powerful it was a lemon from the time I got it. Best of luck. Happy to give you more information on the car if you can determine if it came from Nashville.
Wait that 550i was possibly yours?!
EA40's Life With Cars he wrote a whole paragraph about it possibly being his. so yes, he thinks it’s his old 550i
@TRUMP 2020 no
Just say the last 4 digits of the vin or something so he can check with that, or of a scratch somewhere or something broken on the interior, wear marks on the key if it was truly yours you could give him some info
The hearse is going to 'rust in peace'.
God I'm having war-time flashbacks watching this video. I've had some rough experiences with those turbo BMWs lol. As the program was, BMW supplies a short engine, it has heads, valve covers, spark plugs vacuum pump, water pump. I put one in and it was $12k with all the other stuff, injectors, turbos, gaskets, seals, one time use bolts and fluids... brand new updated engine with zero miles. It's actually more like a long block, with new turbos and tune it's easy 500 horse and running perfect. The program for replacement BMW was covering 90% of the short engine cost. In other words it's a $30,000 engine that you get if you're lucky it's going to be $9k to $15k with labor and stuff. The one I did took me a a week but held up the hoist for almost a month waiting for parts.

The curse of the hearse falls mainly on one’s purse.
Sam keeps buying cars that I have, and have the same issues. My 2011 Range Rover is about to need a timing chain, and my 2014 550i got a new engine under warranty six months ago. Keep it up sam you rock and these videos are great!
You literally bought 2 of the worst cars you could possibly get lmao
murry001 depends what you’re looking for in a car. Personally, I don’t care about reliability so high end European cars don’t scare me. I’ve been able to manage the costs of my Range Rover through a great independent mechanic, doing some work myself, and good parts suppliers. The BMW is under CPO warranty and they’ve now covered about $48k of work on it. If I REALLY need to get somewhere, I have a Tacoma.
A 535i with an N55 modded and tuned is far more reliable than one of these engines stock. I know it is because Alpina's variant has twin turbos and revised tuning making more power and torque. Crazy how badly they messed these up.
The hearse is rusty but I don't think it's splitting in half. It looks like the join has been disguised with body filler, and some surface rust on the metal underneath has expanded, blown the filler and cracked the paint.
Hey Sam, I have a 2012 BMW F07 550i GT. It was serviced it’s whole life with my local BMW here in South Florida. At 114,000 miles, I’ve had an above average high mileage BMW ownership experience. Car is in great shape except for a fuel supply/drivetrain malfunction warning. Codes showed low pressure from high pressure fuel pump and bad O2 sensors pre cats. BMW replaced O2 sensors and gave it a clean bill of health. I have a sagging panoramic sun visor, a result of a shattered spooling mechanism. At 2,600 to repair, that alone nearly totals the car. Haha. I love the car. I will completely fund the engine swap even as it runs perfectly. I want to swap up to the S63 and fully bullet proof this engine. I’m a machinist and would fabricate all fittings as needed. Would you be interested in a collaboration? I would leave the car to your channel and your expertise. Either way, thanks for all the content.

Those headlights aren’t full LED. The actual low beams are HID xenon inside the projectors. 2014 up LCI got option for full LED low and high beams.
Great video Sam, appreciate watching someone humble enough to admit their losses. Keep up the good work.
5 mins in and I bet this has a snapped timing chain which is located way in the back of the engine....around $10,000 at repair shop to fix.

Sam, there was a video series with the Beemerr. Imagine an LS swap, that would be cool t to see.
Sure would, but tough to do. Lots of stuff that doesn't plug and play, from engine mounts to gauge cluster wiring etc. A nightmare for someone that doesn't do stuff like that all the time and even for those who do, its usually a bitch...

The TwinPower Turbo (also called twin scroll turbo) is a single turbo powered from pairs of cylinders in an alternating sequence from two exhaust down tubes. The Twin Turbo Power has two turbos, each fed by one of the two exhaust down tubes.
Going online to scroll over hearses and buying one really sums up your car choices.

I used to work as a mechanic for three years, and we had more BMWs coming in with eitehr sensor issues or something that was hidden in the OBD2 scan. Since then,I would never buy a BMW. BMW - Great looks, bad maintenance costs

Pour oil with the spout at the top. it's farther from your target, but it doesn't glug as it pours.
Keep the hearse to carry Sam's hopes and dreams for some of the other cars.
I really like bedtime stories.
Caddy secret. It's not the head bolts causing the problem. It's the reverse cooling system. There is a hose that comes off the engine inlet housing that runs under the intake cover to the bottom of the expansion tank. They clog and cause over heating issues that resemble a blown head gasket. Most times the car becomes undrivable because of the over heating. If the owner keeps over heating the car the head will warp and blow a head gasket. I flip these cars using a coolant carbon monoxide tester. I have not found one car yet that had an actual blown head gasket. The fix is 4 foot of hose and making sure the nipples are clear too. Dex-cool is pure garbage.
Your little rap about your earbuds and your life was the funniest thing I've heard all day.

Because they're all broken
Hey @samcrac if you ever get a seized motor Try draining the oil and replacing it with marvels mystery oil! Let it sit for a few days and you may be surprised! Honestly I’ve never tried it on a Euro like that BMW but I’ve un-seized a few motors with that method! It worked for me on an old chevy truck with a V-8 a Saab 9000 also a older VW Golf and a few others! I’ve also had it not work.... but the Saab was locked right up let that marvels sit for 2 days drained it out filled it with some 5w30 and drove it for 2 more years
The little "washer that falls out" is called a "crush gasket" and is super common on almost all cars, basically because you have different metals in the oil pan and the drain plug... also the crush gasket should be replaced on every oil change to ensure that the pan doesn't leak.
10,000 oil changes later, ya I sort of have a few under my belt.
Why sam? Why invest in money pits?

Stigma of owning a hearse? You mean like the stigma of being the coolest baller of all time, being in a hearse!
I always wanted this year hearse. I thought it would be a perfect daily driver, then I found out about the engine problems.
IT's totally worth it to look for as much as possible original-used parts for the hearse, from one of the car junkyards, and also some would be new parts (aftermarket or OEM), but once sorter out, you end up with kind of modern hearse, if you have a funeral service business. In this case, you invest, in a car where a frame damage is scary, so it you work this, andmanage to have it nicely sorted for 60% of the used retail, you are a champ. You don't worry about demolished value, as you buy to serve, and if it has been working 5 years when you decide to to sel it, you will give the VinWiki story, so byer know he is getting an old, but a daily driven car, which is a goodsign it keeps on working, with regular maintance.
