I bought a Super Cheap Ferrari California from an Exotic Car Dealer. They told me it was pretty rough, but I had no idea I was getting myself into a problem that could cost more than I paid for the entire car...

Sam is addicted to Ferrari garbage. Sad😢
Since 2015 Ferrari gives 7 years warranty by default, with maintenance included. After 7 years it's your problem. I think it's better than Mercedes.
I guess they dont sell keys for a gl450
It's the sound of your people, who you support, committing genocide. Tell us why you support genocide?
They give 7 years of maintenance, warranty is still 3 years
“I’M NEVER BUYING ANOTHER FERRARI!” OK bub we believe you 😂
he probably already has bought 2
Actually I think he’s bought 6 now that he was definitely not going to buy 😂🤣😂🤣
Sam has cracked the code, buy a trash ferrari, make a video and then sell it at auction and get your money back
@@Chris-hw4mq Ferrari videos are the BEST videos!
@@chrisreimer yes but I would like to see them repaired
The noise you were hearing was synchro and shift related. That's what I was saying, performing that adaptation may eliminate the noise but damage to synchros was most likely occurring. The faults you have are indeed synchro end of life. I do sell brand new synchros with shift collars. And parts you need. Thanks for the shout out, though. We sale all parts for that gearbox.
Would it have been possible for Sam to DIY it with your parts? And what would have been a guesstimate cost for the parts?
Any idea of a diy fix cost? What are the parts worth?
Hey HH just outta interest if the tranny was shipped to you how much to fix the problem ??
Regards from Little Sicly 🇮🇹
@@Deathignatoryou have to selll your kidney and liver to be able to afford to fix that car
@@The_North0 I was asking for Sam, not for me.
The fact someone taped led lights all over the under tray makes you question the history and its former owner
I would’ve said that from the wheels sprayed gloss black lol
That's Nissan Altima level "mods".
True.
I had an AMG GT with this gearbox and it failed and lost all fluid at around 25K miles. The dealer replaced the whole unit and gave me the 8 year warranty for free, and it took about 7 days. Mercedes treats their customers well.
I don't know about that, but Ferrari definitely treats their custies like pay pigs.
Mercedes is well known to be one of the very worst for warranty service and lemon law treatment
they treat you like shit in Germany. They only treat their overseas customers with respect.
I think if you bought it cheap enough it could be a driving project and I still looks very nice on camera
I think I would live with the gearbox and sort out the other stuff as you go
The 8 year warranty is USA only. In the UK you're on your own unless you had extended MB warranty
Dude you got more cars in the pasture then cows.
This is very true. My current ratio is 3:1 Cars to Cows
Well, if you aim to reduce that ratio, you could always put in low ball offers for some basket case Lamborghinis at the auction..
… or buy more cows. If they die you can eat them, unlike Ferraris, which eat you when they die.
His personal junkyard
Here since the domino pizza car days❤️👊
I thought we weren’t supposed to mentions the brand of the Pizza company, just like Sam crac didn’t?
Yes, i remember
That's an exceptionally bad condition. It makes me question the 39k mileage.
Or it was owned by an absolute punter.
39k on one of those is like 250k on a Honda... I'd say it adds up. I have a fat neighbor who has a California. His seat bolster was shredded after 8k miles... Everything is fragile.
Might have been a rental 😮
Odometer fraud is real especially with exotics. I would say 90% of those have been clocked at least once.
Was thinking the same thing, but probably was just driven really really hard lol
Ferrari's don't make strange noises, they make expensive, life altering noises.
That comment made my stomach hurt 😂
This why Ferrari needs a proper Manual for every model. Ridiculous 50k for a automatic "manual"
Lol it's bonkers
@@davethevicar88 This is why Mazda are still selling sports cars with a very standard manual gear box complete with manual clutch etc. Granted some of these also have Wankel rotary engines, but if you buy one of these you accept that it will drink oil and need seal refits regularly.
Tears into a Ferrari
Wears flip flops
Welcome to Florida.
It doesn't deserve more respect.
It's just a piece of machinery, not the Holy Grail. It's also Florida, where flip flops are an upgrade from barefoot but not as sweaty as wearing shoes. I live here and only wear shoes if I am going to work.
He's the rich mans David Freiberger! 😂
Great video, Sam. It really bums me out to see such poor quality from a high-end Italian manufacturer. I'm glad that you got out from under that car. This is probably one of the reasons why Jay Leno owns NO Ferraris.
I must interject, its not always "poor quality" .. .more so poor owners who neglect and can't afford to fix these cars! I've owned my California for several years now. bought her with 20,000k and now hit 48,000k ... runs and looks like new (my daily driver). I had to replace the shocks and headers but that's the only major thing that has broken. Excellent car in excellent condition! (no sticky buttons, perfect dash, perfect seats!)
@@dwatteli wish i could own a Ferrari, my c6 z06 is the closest thing I’ve ever had to one, just wondering why you had to replace your shocks with such low mileage? Is that standard for those cars?
California dreaming, but the noise won't go away. Stopped into an autozone I passed along the way. Well, I talk to the technician and he told me to pray...😅
Beware of bad advice.
🎵if I start to walk, can I get to LA? 🎵
🎵California Dreamin, the warranty won't pay🎵
Toyota Matrix vs Pontiac Vibe. Toyota did pistons and rings for oil consumption under recall and GM gives you the bird and tells you that's normal. Same engine.
Ferrari is very good at convincing their customers that because they are expensive cars they are also good cars.
That goes for a lot of luxury cars. A big one is Range Rover. I’d rather have a Lexus LX or GX.
@@keltecdan Another great example, I'm not sure you could pay me to buy a Range Rover. I live in Milwaukee and we bring the world another great example Harley Davidson. An absolutely horribly built bike that sells like crazy and carries a price premium.
@@justinp2993 I’ll stick with Japanese. Love my Suzuki SFV650.
At this point, it seems like a lot of them are meant to be collected and put in a warehouse under a cover, not driven at all.
The words "Wholesale Ferrari" would scare any mortal man!
It's not there because they don't feel like selling it!
RUUUUUNNN!!!
Sam you are truly the master at incorporating ads into your videos. I don't even have the desire to skip through because you make it relevant.
Came here for this comment
Just a heads up @samcrac there’s a recall to remove the key blade on the key fob and provide the customer with a regular key fob on those Camaros. It supposed to be like that
Very strange I just looked it up! Thanks for the information!
@@SamcracI have the blank plastic plug that fills the spot the blade was in. Says Camaro on it.
Don't worry Sam, there are other tubers willing to buy your old Ferrai's from the auctions for more than you paid.
buy it for the right price, put in a corvette drivetrain with the rear trans and make it look nice and reliable.
Hoovie?
@@muskokamike127 you would probably also put an LS into a Chiron and call it an upgrade 🙂. LS swap everything.
That's why it's almost pointless to buy exotics from salvage or wholesale auctions. All the UA-camrs have driven up the prices to the point that it's almost not worth buying anything with a story because you don't have enough gap between those and a decent functional example.
@@heiner71 no, because that would be ludicrous to do to a 4M vehicle.
Now, for a 30K beat up ferrari? why not?
Now the 250 GT used in Ferris Bueller was actually a replica with a corvette drive train and some afficinados have driven it and said it's a great little package.
You know, considering a real one is FIFTEEN MILLION DOLLARS
Everytime we support Sam’s channel, he betrays us and gets another broken Ferrari or Range Rover 😂😂
Sam's going to get some of us in trouble thinking we can buy an exotic and not lose any money.
His Ferrari vids are always guaranteed to be interesting. I always look forward to seeing them. Because Ferrari. 🤣
You convinced me Ferraris are junk. Jay Leno owns almost 200 cars and refuses to own a Ferrari.
Great video, Sam! Very informative.
Love the video Sam wish you would post more often!
Fantastic video, Sam! Very instructive.
This is one Ferrari you have made money on by not losing at the buy and sell process but making your millions in the UA-cam video from it, well done Sam
Millions off of UA-cam 😆
The way UA-cam money is these days, he might make enough to pay for that new key if it weren't already a sponsor.
Yes your correct it is possible to make a lot of many making videos for UA-cam, you can also make a lot of money driving in F1 for Redbull, Mercedes etc, but easy it ain't 😊
What a crappy quality product that ferrari
Right! Not even 40K miles and the thing's cosmetically falling apart with a blown transmission and numerous electrical issues.
I think it’s more the previous owner in fairness
Hey man. I really like this form of video, no fluff, honest review, nice summary and conclusion. Keep up the good work. Thanks!
Great episode Sam!
Your format is top notch. Bring us an issue, show us how and what you did to remedy it - in detail. Also providing all the background details and some tips and tricks along the way. Love it.
How many Ferraris did Sam buy to date & how many are functional completed projects?
After he says he won’t buy another “cheap “ Ferrari he usually buys another Land Rover.
zero is the answer to the second question.

@@ianmangham4570 way more purchased.
At least 3 360s and the fire f12
@@user-od9iz9cv1w FUNCTIONALITY
The Camaros actually are supposed to be like that. It was a recall. The flip key apparently is really easy to shut itself off which is why the key isn’t a part of the fob
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that noticed that
Sam has taught me that never get a Ferrari if you win the lottery. lol
You just need to win enough money. If the Ferrari fails after 2 years, you have it hauled to the junk yard and buy a new one. The way these auction Ferraris look, they get treated like that by their newly rich buyers. 10 years old or much less and totally destroyed, inside and out.
Nah, you clearly buy a Ferrari and LS-swap it.
You can get one, just make sure it’s new and leased rather than bought!
New to this channel but got to say thus guys pretty good to watch. Keep up the good work fella
When you loaded the reprogram, it triggered the "miss a gear" syndrome. It is electrical, not mechanical. Mine only did it when warmed up.
That build quality is such a surprise. I honestly thought it would be better for a later model.
Very awesome Video Sam, you nailed it! 🙌
sam what i like about you is you don't just fix you explain what the common man can do to fix the problem including your very good suggestions on your sponsors too i respect you very much and just sold my Ferrari and enjoy your input THANKS
Those little things like burnt out gauge lighting is really frustrating to owners of any car. Just from interior wear and tear, it doesn’t appear that the previous owner really babied the car, and had ‘fun’ driving it.
Ah yes, Ferrari. The Vauxhall of Italy. Has a price tag of a house but the quality of a trailer home.
It's a noise from that valve for that gear, so if it's in 5th, it seems like when the transmission pump pressure drops you're not getting a clean shift or engagement of that clutch pack
Do ANY cars actually get fixed and finished on this channel?
No, never, not once.
i really admire your ingenuity and drive for doing these high end cars, and like a lot of others, im sticking to my 911 gts4
Love it man! You rock!
Been patiently waiting for new Sam content and of course its a Ferrari lol. Im not mad, but not surprised either ha.
What ever happened to the Ferrari you left with Vtuned? I don’t remember it being finished
8:25 broken off bolt head on far right.. still watching
Great eye, I didn't even notice. This transmission has already been opened once!!!
Easy and free fix. Turn up the radio.
At least until the transmission explodes.
Cheers Sam great video👍🇬🇧
Ferrari treats there customers just like Harley does
Often based on the dealer expecting the owner to be too rich or too busy to care…
Sam should be congratulated for walking away from a disaster. I think this is the first time I've seen him do that.
A Ferrari up on jack stands with questionable mileage just begs for a reference to Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Yeah... I bought a BMW Z4, drunk on New Years ( No I didn't test drive it ) with 100,000 miles on it. Generally, I do a market search, and it was a good buddy I'd bought cars from before, but I was just waiting for something to fail and total the car. I'd just bought a 4RUNNER the week before so I was down about 25 k. Since I live on my sailboat, and park on the beach, I kept it at a buddy's house across the bridge. Fun little car, no major problems , few upgrades ,but needed some minor cosmetics. Still made me a nervous wreck. Felt like I had to pay attention to ,and drive it. Owned it about a month. Took a few k bath , but got rid of it. All this looks easy, or fun, but unless you have deep pockets ? Buy something you can pay cash for that doesn't kill you at the garage. Even if you're the garage.
Great video Samuel
The gear skipping is a fuel saver function. New Ferraris are disposable. That's why there is an included maintenance schedule with every purchase.
That's why I sleep at night without nightmares because my old toyota Carolla takes me from point A to point B with unnecessary dramas .
Hi Sam. Hello from Ireland again 😀. God, I was sure it was going to be something simple again, no such luck. It sounds brilliant, good engine. This car might be a great Fixer-Upper for someone. Good job, Sam. Wicked video 😅👌👍🥰🚗🇮🇪
as always, amazing.
Thanks Sam - Always love your videos. Will stick with my 2005 - $2000 toyota avalon (what I paid) , currently no issues, touch wood. :)
Great video - as always! - Sam. Convinced me to never own a Ferrari. And I thought my '72 Karmann Ghia was troublesome! Sheesh.
Sell it to Hoovie .he'll buy anything
Ha ha yes! Crac, Hoovie, Wizard. (The eternal triangle) 😂🤣
Lucas has helped many sticktion and synchronization issues in Ferrari but you have to run it 50% or more in hot weather climate.
thanks Sam
Hey Sam crack, can you give us a vehicle update? Possibly a list of cars that you have fixed and now own. Also a list of cars that you've purchased to fix and sell. I have lost track of the many cars that you've had. TYIA
Hi Sam
Love your content. Build up my confidence to work on my own car.
Visiting florida from Denmark in a few weeks and want to find some parts for my 2015 tahoe.
In europe it is a special car, i belive only two in my entire country.
Any recommendations for junk yards or chevy dealers in Florida?
Need some plastic panels, door wire harness. Etc.
Awesome video..! I don’t think owning a Ferrari in the near future is a realistic probability for me, but I found it interesting.
The Camaro key wasnt broken. There was a recall back in 2014 or 2015 on that key specifically. Dealers were told to cut it and separate it from the fob
For me the funniest part is the owner of that Ferrari rearview mirror came off they glued it on see that extra glue and cracked the windshield
You my friend are a glutton for punishment. I applaud your tenacity.
Thanks I think. My C300 doesn't have that transmission but I think I hear that kind of griding while idling. I'll ask my dealership to take a look at that if that 's an issue. No warning lights yet but it sounds suspect.
you do very good video lot of knowledge
True to the meaning of Buy Cheap Buy Twice
Missed the heck outa this guy
Really want to see the ZL1!!!
Sammy crack 24 on trending let’s go🎉
DDE block beater!
Yep the Block beats them useless 😅
I love that body style!
That key system is cool
Always wonder if I’d see Sam drive past Avila
I absolutely love your channel though 😊
When you closed the door to listen for the sound it sounded like a screen door on a mid 70s trailer house screen door.
I have same noise in the pdk in my 991.1 carrera S. This happened immediately after changing the engine and gear Coolers. I did the maintenance for the pdk including readaptation. And still same noise at 4 th gear, not always, but annoying
Thanks!
8:54 look at the upper arm, the noise is cooming when the arm moves.
Sam is the bravest man EVER!
Pity Getrag has fallen like this. They used to make epic gearboxes like the F28, which was a legendary transmission. I think the Kadett 200tS and Calibra 4x4 used it.
I wanted to see you rebuild the transmission!
2:30 what is he doing on the tablet😂
Random Mercedes-Benz exec…”We take ownership of known problems like the Getrag transmission and SBC failures, and cover repairs beyond the basic warranty period.”
Customer…”What about the BCM failures that cause 🔥?”
Mercedes-Benz…. “What fires? We have never heard of that…sorry, it’s not covered …..”
😬
the gen5 ZL1 key wasn't broke off, it was a recall because some people managed to shut their car off while driving by turning the key with their knee. so they just removed the key off the fob and made a seperate key.
1:33 had to get a replacement key
1:33 I thought the red car and the blue C4 were police lights on top of the Camaro. Just for a second. Maybe half a second. Or whatevs.
I can’t believe how things have changed so fast. I never imagine saying that Chinese made cars today is way better build than italian made super cars
I usually don’t buy products that run ads on UA-cam just because but I might actually have to check this one out!
Sam…as soon as I saw the ferrari I knew what kind of video this was going to be. If I were in the legislative government of FLorida I would pass a law prohibiting you from purchasing any more Ferraris! lol! Thanks for the content though!😂
Sam finished a car! 🎉
thanks sam crack
Love the vidz
My 1992 BMW 525i with 200k miles with no service records has less problems than this. It's crazy how the dash is falling apart, and the lights too. It's crazy that Ferrari sells ticking time bomb transmissions, but sues people for rebuilding their cars. I now understand why some people refuse to buy Ferrari.
U done it again! Glutten for punishment this guy 😂
The cheap hands free speaker speaks to how much the car was cared about, cartoys special lol
This just proves that Ferrari is king. They can do whatever they want and it’ll never hurt their brand. You have a stupid expensive problem every time and you keep buying
