The Sleeping Tune: Bagpipes

- The Sleeping Tune is an inspired lullaby written by Gordon Duncan and featured this week in #SlowAirSunday in memory of Gordon Duncan, who was a very influential piper that broke the boundaries of traditional piping music. Gordon was well known for composing over one hundred tunes in his lifetime and being the two-time winner of the Macallan Trophy. Gordon won at the Interceltique de Lorient in France in the solo Bagpipe competitions and walked away with a trophy and a bottle of Macallan whiskey! After a long night of celebrating and drinking his winnings he woke up the next morning with two things in his head... a terrible hangover and this tune. After playing it for his friends who didn't recognize it, Gordon figured he must of written it himself. Thus naming it, The Sleeping Tune. Gordon never released his own recorded version of this tune, but he did record it for Tony McManus, a fellow musician and friend who has performed it many times in his memory.
This weeks Bagpipe journey took me to "The Shaman's Cave" in Sedona Arizona. This cave is off the beaten path and not a place that many know about which gave me the opportunity to have this quiet moment of reflection and peace. It is believed that the Native Chiefs and Shaman came to this cave to perform ceremonies to receive insight from the spirits of nature. Looking out through the natural window and over looking the beautiful hills of Sedona in the distance was so magical. Playing the Sleeping Tune felt right. This recording is the actual sound that moved and flowed off the cave walls and now into your ears. May it bring you peace.
Dedicating this performance in memory of Gordon Duncan.

I suspect the spirits of this beautiful place rejoiced to hear this music, and even the old rocks smiled and felt less forlorn.

From far away, your music brings my soul from earthly shadows as if the first dawn rays of the glowing orange warmth of an early spring sun begin illuminating the light green buds of high meadow wildflowers not yet quite in bloom. And presently from these same solemn shadows my now warmed heart as one of the unblossomed buds is gently revealed. 🌼🌸🌺🌷🌹💗 Your beauty shines so deeply within your music. Thank you. 💖

Selena Weber I had a feeling you would love this one!! Now we need to figure out how to bring a full size piano into this cave and play together!
Dark Isle Bagpiper Oh my goodness! I am SO there! I’ll call the helicopter company about lowering a piano down there to the cave. I’m sure they do that sort of thing all the time😉 What a dream that would be with you!! ✨ 🎹 🎶 #TheyNeedABagpipeEmoji

I love this tune and well understand why it has crossed over to other instruments e.g. Tony McManus the amazing guitarist. Whenever I hear this tune it always makes me think of it's composer Gordon Duncan and his untimely demise......a sad lament for a very sad death.
Could you tell me what reeds and chanter you have in your pipes because your set up is excellent?
