@@ΔΗΜΗΤΡΗΣΚΙΤΣΟΣ-φ1μ Yes and no, they got far enough North to build the Antonine wall and some forts beyond it to try and protect it which is about half way up Scotland but they abandoned it only a couple years after it was built and retreated back to Hadrian's wall. Mostly because it kept getting attacked. They never actually defeated the "Caledonian's" as they called them, which was about everything further north than the Antonine wall. Why that is is mostly a mixture of how much of an undertaking it would have been for them for what to them was not much material gain, the Caledonian's were a particularly unruly population living land in conditions that were entirely unsuited to Roman military tactics. Scotland was way too far north for them and they couldn't hack it. They reached an accord with the low land Scottish populations between the Antonine and Hadrian's walls that they preferred to use as buffer states so they didn't need to deal with the Caledonian's as much.

Bagpipes are ok.
I don't think I've ever heard an instrument that didn't sound great when played by somebody who knows what they're doing. And a complete noob can make any instrument sound terrible. Trust me, I speak from experience.

The history of Scotland has always been some of my favorite to research. Thousands of years of overcoming odds, the heart and resolve of the people in that country in my opinion is second to none.
Roughly 2000, no more than that. However, the disappointing thing is that they chose to stay with the English queen and steer away from independence.

I can understand why, centuries ago, people thought this type of music sounded "savage" and "random," (to use our vernacular), but there is a great deal of sophistication and coordination required for this type of art.

@@sharkgun2716 The Scottish are British, but let's be clear on a few things - Britain is NOT a country, it's the name of the island that holds Scotland, England, and Wales. Also, Britain is NOT the same as the U.K. which I and many other Scots are hoping to leave very soon and be independent. Scotland will still be British even after independence, becasue it'll still be a part of the island of Britain, but it will no longer be part of the United Kingdom which is ruled by Westminster in London.

@UCTw0Txik9QlRlRq30dIY6Nw why did they build the fuckoff massive hadrians wall then?
@@joeljanssonhernstrom1819 to prevent the picts and other tribesmen from invading the badly defended roman Britain
