Roman centurion: Don't worry Quintus, Britannia is not Germania, it will be a piece of cake...Mars is with us. 2:33 Celtic tribes: Good, you wore the brown tunics!
It's nice to perpetuate the romantic myth that warrior Celts repelled the Romans so fiercely that they had to build a wall, but whilst the Romans controlled Britannia (England, Wales and lowland Scotland) their forays into Caledonia were probably not worth the trouble for the sparse resources and inclement weather. That and the fact the tribes would not be one coherent unit but several warring factions, they would be left to fight amongst themselves. Rome did heavily influence Scotland north of Hadrian's Wall up to the Forth/Tay, and in this was the area that eventually grew prosperous enough to overthrow the Romans when their empire was in decline.
@@drey8 Caledonia had the same size of forts and garrisons as germania which suggests the Romans did try to conquer Scotland with some force. Of course they made progress in Scotland but after the resistance of the lowland celts and the Highland picts they knew they couldn't keep control of Scotland without placing a legion specifically for that area. Rome simply didn't have the manpower to do so and were forced to build a wall to maintain their empire in the British Isles. But even then Scottish tribes raided the wall and northern England. The influence Rome had on lowland scots was miniscule as lowland scots would be executed and punished for associating with Rome. The idea of Scotland not being worth it is itself a myth. Rome had knowledge of various valuable resources found in Scotland. Gold being one of the main ones. Hence why Antonine's wall was built in order to try and secure those resources but they failed resorting to Rome falling back to hadrians wall.
@@CalumOH Much of what you're saying is simply inaccurate but I'm not going to bother arguing it out. Just bear in mind the differences between Caledonia in Imperial Rome and what we refer to as Scotland nowadays, very different things.

This is what any army would hear if it tried invading the Appalachian mountains, with a little bit of banjo thrown in for dramatic effect. We’re Scottish, Irish, Scots Irish, and any other “undesirable” group the English sent over here to get rid of.
A yes, the traditional Scottish testicle drum. This is not just a musical instrument, but also how Scotsmen used to carry their balls on the battlefield.
We had a bard-off between an NPC bard and our bard, with our bard on bagpipes and the NPC on ukulele. Sadly the DM rolled a nat 20 and played Through the Fire and Flames on ukulele, while our bard didn’t take my advice and merely played Scotland the Brave, the damn coward.
Drums are heavy and a major work out. You need serious core strength to wear the harness and drum correctly. In marching band, the percussionists on the field were always pretty muscular and low body fat due to this.

Roman centurion: Don't worry Quintus, Britannia is not Germania, it will be a piece of cake...Mars is with us.
2:33
Celtic tribes: Good, you wore the brown tunics!
@@drey8 Thats nice and all but have you heard the Carnyx?
You seem do not have heard of the Varus battle
