When I was a 22 year old punk rocker in the late 80s, I dated a really cool girl with a huge music collection. Her taste was diverse. I laughed at the fact she had Patsy Cline in her collection. Then she asked if I ever actually listen listened to her. Fuck no, said I. She forced me to listen, and I was hooked immediately. She not only opened my eyes to Patsy, but a whole array of music I snobbishly dismissed. I'm eternally grateful.
That’s a great story - thanks! I have a similar story, spent my teens thinking Johnny Cash was a MOR country singer, then later my eyes were opened to how great he was. Not by a girlfriend though!
I've always loved her recording of an old standard that she made her own, Faded Love, and at the end of the song you hear her inhale, she apparently cried through the recording and was emotional and it just came through her voice so magically.
When Pasty died in March of 1963 she had the song Leaving on Your Mind on the charts. After that songs run, they released Sweet Dreams and Faded Love both top 10 country hits. Pasty who was a perfectionist and was never really satisfied with her recordings on playback, she was (however) satisfied with Faded Love and thrilled with the catch in her voice, at the songs end when finishing the final chorus. Both of these songs are must listens. Walking After Midnight is from 1957 and was her first crossover hit (on the Pop charts). Crazy which you already reacted to, was her biggest cross over hit, reaching #9 on the pop charts in early 1962. Fun fact it was also the most played song of all-time on the juke box. Pasty as you already have discovered had one of those voices, with emotion and mastery to put a punch into a song. She has also recording some of the standards and made them her own. You Made Me Love You - a song which everyone has recorded; was completely made her own. You can listen to it all day, and no one quite does it like Pasty. She was magic for country music, and it's songwriters, there is a quote I will have to find for you and post it. I want to get it exact. You have listened to 2 of her very best recordings of which there are many. When you get the chance to dive into her more, I would suggest listening to Just Out of Reach and Why Can't He Be You.
An artist you guys should check out is k.d. Lang. The reason she became interested in singing was because of Patsy Cline. Her band in the beginning of her career was known as The Reclines. She has a lot of great songs. Constant Craving was her biggest hit. Big Boned Gal was my personal favorite with The Reclines. She does a fantastic cover of Hallelujah - there are two live performances on line that blow will blow you away. Also her duet with Roy Orbison (another artist from the late 50’s, early 60’s that should listened to) on his song called Crying. If you love Patsy, you’ll love k.d. too. Also, another suggestion since you guys seem to love the 60s, is the girl groups of the 60’s like The Supremes, The Ronettes, and The Shirelles to name a few.
KD also covered Pasty's Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray. She also worked with Owen Bradley Pasty's producer for her 1988 album Shadowland (her solo debut). It was her breakout into the US Market. Her performance of Cohen's Hallelujah at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver is tops, and her performance of Crying at the Roy Orbison Tribute shortly after his passing is also awesome. Both of those songs are actually her biggest hits, on the charts, both #2 in Canada. Constant Craving was her only top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and she did win the her 3rd Grammy, for Best Pop Female Vocal Performance for the song.
'She's Got You' really brings her home. Her voice is the standard you apply to greatness. You guys are my favorite reactioners, you are learning about the history of modern music. You make it fun!!
OMG!! Thank You for saying that you love how CLEAN and PURE her voice is!! Patsy Cline & Mary Ford exemplify how a person with great range can move a song. There is none of this nauseating up & down vocalization that you hear today, ( I feel like I'mm on a roller caster). These women just effortlessly slide into the next note. Thank You for you 2 sharing this music.
I'm no great fan of country music overall, but as a kid in the 70's/80's in Louisiana, voices like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton were the world of music my family was immersed in, so my early years are full of 'family concerts' singing "Coal Miner's Daughter" or "Rocky Top" in a Winnebago in campgrounds across the South. The women of old country were BOSSES. It makes me happy to see people discovering them again--formidable voices, all.
Also a La. kid my mother rest her soul, was a big Patsy Cline fan! She would be cooking in the kitchen singing this song. Sweet memories, music always gets me!!
@@Cochese59 Ha--awesome! I'm from St. John Parish, and I got to be the musical director when our community theatre did "Always, Patsy Cline" because my grandma had trained me up so well. (I'm a rocker by nature, but I secretly love me some classic country divas!!) :)

Patsy was 31 yrs old when she passed. Her good friend Loretta Lynn named one of her twin daughters after Patsy. Speaking of bundles of joy the time is quickly approaching for Momma to bring the newest Rob Squad member into the world.
Not Patsy Cline's songs, but some from her friend and contemporary, Loretta Lynn: "You Ain't Woman Enough," You're Looking At Country," and, of course, "Coal Miner's Daughter"
That "in-and-out" you mention is not a yodel, but a natural catch in Patsy's voice; it's not artifice. You can also hear that from Judy Garland in a lot of her recordings. Happy Trails, ya'll, and good luck with your new squadlet!
It is so nice to see the younger generation keeping her music alive. I am close family to Patsy and know the real story of her life. She was such a beautiful person she was a beer-drinking hell-raising country girl who grew up hard, as I did as well, she had a heart of GOLD. The first lady of country music will live on in my heart and I hope the heart of you guys as well. Thanks so much for this reaction, keep up the great work.
I’ve heard about her generosity, that she would randomly stop at the grocery store to pick up food for friends, and that she would give them money to pay their rent when they were strapped.
If you truly are close family to Patsy: you will never have to worry about her legacy dying out. She has, and will continue to, affect and reach and touch so many people through her music that generations to come will be humming her tunes while making memories they’ll never forget. Gone far too soon, but i try to take solace in that. The fact that she truly is immortalized; in such a beautiful way.
I'm feel like a proud papa watching you guys react to Patsy Cline. She's a country music legend, taken from us way too soon. She's also from my home in Virginia. We still talk about her reverently to this day. You guys did a great job on this one, and I think you understand why she's a legend as well. Keep up the good work!
I love this woman’s voice. Patsy, Loretta Dolly, Tammy, Waylon and Willie, Smokey, Diana, & Mama Cass were played constantly in our house growing up. My father only listen to country music and my mother listened to Folk & Motown. They would set out the records on Saturday morning and tell us to start playing while we did our chores.
Brenda Lee, Dusty Springfield, Leslie Gore, Connie Francis, The Ronettes, Martha and The Vandelas, The Supremes, The Shirelles, The 5th Dimension (Marilyn McCoo), The Seekers, Carole King, Carly Simon, More Carpenters, More Pat Benatar, More Heart, Nicolette Larson, Yvonne Elleman, More Olivia Newton John, Dionne Warwick, Loretta Lynn, Jeannie C Riley, So So many more.
This was on the jukebox in my Mother and Stepfather's restaurant in the 80s. People used to play it periodically and then I met this girl at school and she liked this song as well. We would walk on wooded roads at night and she would sing this to me. Halcyon times indeed.
Makes me so happy to see young folk listening to classic songs from waaaay back. You both are such a fun couple. I would have loved to have you as my teacher when I was young. I wish you both all the luck in the world.
More Patsy? ok, "Sweet Dreams(Of You)", "I Fall to Pieces", "She's Got You" (which is one of my favorites), "Back in Baby's Arms", that's a good start.
I was happy to hear your mention of the baby; God bless you and your whole family! She's been gone for decades now, but Patsy's music and inspiration are still there for you. BTW, my favorite artist is Springsteen, and I might call it a testament to Patsy's enduring greatness, that I still revere her.
Country Yodeling is a thing I highly highly recommend you check out LeAnn Rimes singing Blue. She was 14 years old when she had a hit with this song and was inducted 8nto Membership I. The Grand Ole Opry. She just recently won The m Masked Singer.! The yodel was a big thing in country music back in the old days when it was mostly radio genre. There are many great country singers who sang with a yodel in their voice.
Blue was actually written for Patsy Cline. One the Nashville record executives that discovered Leann said they actually sat on the song until they found a voice worthy of the song.
If you ever get the chance to see the video of LeAnn singing a medley of Patsy Cline hits at the ACAs in 2013, its emotional, . It was the 50th anniversary of the plane crash, Patsy was in. LeAnn was 30, the same age Patsy was when she passed. As it has been said, LeAnn has been compared to Patsy vocally, since she was 12. Her first hit "Blue" was written for Patsy, but never given to anyone until LeAnn.
That into. Steel guitar, which is played horizontally almost like a keyboard with strings. It twangs. I always thought of Patsy Cline as a Country Jazz singer.
I too am a Patsy Cline fan and I noticed that y'all reacted to Crazy (Willie Nelson song) and her first ever number one song Walkin' After Midnight, but for me and maybe some other Patsy Cline fans the best song out there is Sweet Dreams. I get goosebumps every time I hear the introduction. Also if y'all get the chance try listening to Keith Whitley. Especially Don't Close Your Eyes or When You Say Nothing At All.
Y'all fill me with so much joy! I love your reactions! Side note: the album title is "60 Greatest Hits" -- as in 60 songs, not the 1960s. Her career did arguably hit its peak in the early 60s though, before her death at age 30, yes, in a plane crash in 1963.
Hey Guys, it's your old fan David. I love you both, I love Patsy Cline to. One of my favorites is her "You're stronger than me". When I was 14 I had tickets to see her in Louisville, Ky. She was killed in a Plane crash before her appearance there. There was a benefit show, there we several " Stars" of the time, but none could take her place. I'm 78 now and still loving her music
She died in a plane crash in 1963 at the age of 30. A couple other hits for her were: I Fall to Pieces or Sweet Dreams. She first sang Walkin' After Midnight on the Arthur Godfrey "Talent Scout" TV show in 1957.
Amber, Patsy's first HUGE crossover (to pop) hit was I Fall to Pieces. The story goes, she struggled with the first couple of takes, but then she hit a magic take, and the guys in the studio all ended up crying at her passionate and powerful vocal. My personal favorite Cline song is You Belong to Me. She's Got You is also a great tear-jerker.
You guys are such fun and it's great to watch you discover some of the music I've loved and listened to for 50+ years. Here's a recommendation for female Friday of a little known artist who died tragically at only 33 of cancer just as her music career was beginning to take off. But Eva Cassidy left behind a body of recorded work that dazzles with it's purity, artistic integrity, and sheer beauty. There's a UA-cam video of her performing Autumn Leaves that will break your heart---just Eva, her guitar, and that amazing voice.
She’s Got You and Sweet Dreams. I think they’re some of her best and really showcase her vocals. No one like Patsy. So cool, so influential, and a firecracker at that!
My favorite singer of all time. Hey Amber, as a Momma, it's time to consider some of the fantastic songs we loved as children. I would love to hear you react to the best proposal song ever. Burl Ives singing : Lavendar blue dilly, dilly Bring in your girls and have them listen, give their reactions. Your family is so beautiful and they could stand in for you when Luca(Luka) arrives. Imagine having us listen to all the songs that they love or would like Daddy to hear in a new way. Do not worry about being swollen, your are near having a beautiful baby boy. You look great!
Hey guys. Patsy was amazing and is still the inspiration of many female singers even today. Patsy was not one of the 27, but a great loss none the less. She was just 30 when she died in that crash. She was best friends with Loretta Lynn who Patsy had taken under her wing. There was a stage show about Patsy and her music and the gal who played Patsy is a wonderful singer as well. You should check her out too. Her name is Mandy Barnett. Amazing vocalist. Stay well you two. Amber you are glowing more with each day.
One of my favourite songs from Patsy Cline and my baby girl was one -and- half she was running around singing this song from Patsy Cline and many more... brings back good memories... thanks for sharing❤
Totally recommend listening to Patsy’s “Sweet Dreams”. If you’re looking for another artist comparable in voice and talent, I would totally recommend listening to Roy Orbison. Especially “Crying” or “Running Scared”.
Point of fact - this song was actually released in 1957. Patsy was 25 at the time. Sadly, she died at age 30 in a plane crash on March 5, 1963. (Just over four years after another plane crash claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper.)
I discovered Patsy Cline watching Coal Miners Daughter. She was Loretta Lynn's best friend.. I loved her the second she started singing. I was actually upset that I was 18 before I discovered her and I was denied ever seeing her in concert because she was taken so young. Same as Janis Joplin. Janis I loved at 3 years old.. Those 2 women were gone before I was even born and they were my first female musical idols.. I have lived music from the day I was born. I'm always so happy to see you 2 reacting to do many types of music and actually digging it. I love watching people discover new music.. It's great and it makes my heart smile. I know I'm late to the videos but it wasn't that long ago that I discovered you. Consider doing "She's Got You " By Patsy Cline. The way she sings that song is beautiful.. I used to do a lot of karaoke and my friends would laugh because I would scoff at anyone who did Patsy Cline. I would almost get angry. I always said no one can do Patsy.. NO ONE is worthy... I'm still mad I never got to see her and that she didn't get to grace us with more songs.. Watch Coal Miners Daughter. You will fall even more in love with her.. Oh, and by the way, your family is beautiful.. I Love your whole vibe. Thank you for the smiles..
I would spend the weekends with my grandpa on the weekends When he couldn't sleep, we would go for walks and and he would sing me this song. Thank for the memories ❤
Dolly Parton's first "album" appearance was in 1963, which was entitled "Hits Made Famous By Country Queens", which featured Patsy Cline songs recorded by Faye Tucker, and Kitty Wells songs recorded by Dolly Parton (one Dolly Parton song, "Letter To Heaven" was also featured). The album was released on the Somerset Records label. My late mother bought a copy of the album, and played the Faye Tucker side with the Patsy Cline songs A LOT. Dolly Parton may have learned how to do the "Patsy Cline Yodel", by watching how Faye Tucker imitated it in the recording studio. "Hits Made Famous By Country Queens" is available for digital download as of 2018.
One element of her voice is referred to as a "cry". You know it when you hear it. At one point, you compared the sound to dolly parton. It summons up a primal reaction in men.
My mum had the old Patsy singles . We grew up hearing her beautiful voice. Play some of the sweet songs to your stomach. Babies in the womb love music too ❤✌👍
LeAnn Rimes recorded a song called Blue when she was THIRTEEN and was hyped as the next Patsy Cline. She was not...but that song will blow your mind. Did I mention she was THIRTEEN?

2 of her most amazing hits and also "She's Got You"

Patsy line “She’s Got You” patsy has always been my favorite. “Sweet Dreams”.
Dusty springfield. Son of a preacher man is a must
Yes!!!🥰

That's good, but her best is You Don't Have to Say You Love Me.
Or....You Don't Have to Say You Love Me......another great one.
Oh heck yeah.. along with Ode To Billy Joe by Bobbie Gentry.

I highly highly recommend you check out LeAnn Rimes singing Blue.
Great suggestion!
Definitely a great choice. They actually compared a young Leanne to Patsy Cline
I 3rd this.
She was a natural. No effects needed . Immaculate voice
You HAVE TO listen to "I Fall To Pieces" by Patsy. It's really good.
My most favorite Patsy Cline song is Faded Love. In my opinion it's probably her best recording.
I heard her songs since I was a kid in the 60's and I'm 64 and I get goosebumps everyone of her songs 🎵
Amber needed this one after her emotional Martina McBride reaction!
yes I agree!!!
This song and Crazy are my favorite songs from her. So classic.
“blue moon of kentucky” has a lot of that fun in-and-out that she does
I FALL TO PIECES - My all-time favorite Patsy Cline
I just love watching y'all listening. J sits bobbing his head up & down. Amber closes her eyes & sways back & forth. So sweet.
One of the greatest voices ever!
You're 1000% right..Angelic voice❤❤ Rest in Eternal Love Patsy
I love me some Patsy...try “She’s Got You” and “Leavin’ On Your Mind”
Another great underrated one by her. Three cigarettes
That 10 seconds from 3:49-3:59 when you were both feelin’ it. That’s exactly the type of reaction any artist hopes to get from an audience.
Singers call that thing you refer to as a yodel as a "cry"
Another excellent Pasty song. 2 of all time favorites.
Amber, if you like bluegrass you really really need to hear Alison Krauss. After listening to Alison Krauss then we can talk about an angelic voice!
Alison Krause has the true voice of an angel.
Oh, yes! Alison Krauss, "When You Say Nothing At All"! Love that one!
💯💯
You guys are such fun and it's great to watch you discover some of the music I've loved and listened to for 50+ years. Here's a recommendation for female Friday of a little known artist who died tragically at only 33 of cancer just as her music career was beginning to take off. But Eva Cassidy left behind a body of recorded work that dazzles with it's purity, artistic integrity, and sheer beauty. There's a UA-cam video of her performing Autumn Leaves that will break your heart---just Eva, her guitar, and that amazing voice.
You guys are obviously a huge hit look at your subscribers increasing so quickly Keep it up guys love you guys
Now this is the true Queen of Country.
She’s Got You and Sweet Dreams. I think they’re some of her best and really showcase her vocals. No one like Patsy. So cool, so influential, and a firecracker at that!
My favorite country singer and The movie sweet dreams. Is a great way to know this beautiful lady.even more.
Patsy Cline is an amazing voice. "I Fall to Pieces" is my favorite of hers.
Leann Rimes also does the Yodel. She covers some of Patsy's songs.
The Stunning Patsy Cline
I fall to pieces .
Fair play to both of you i can see how much you truly love the iconic patsy beautiful reaction .
Give a listen to "Back in Baby's Arms."
One of my favorite songs by Patsy. She did so many great songs! “She’s Got You” is another great one by her.
Do a reaction on Loretta Lynn "Coal Miner's Daughter"
One of my favourite songs from Patsy Cline and my baby girl was one -and- half she was running around singing this song from Patsy Cline and many more... brings back good memories... thanks for sharing❤
You guys would absolutely love Loretta Lynn’s song called Fist City. It’s just as humorous as Boy Named Sue.
"So Wrong", "Sweet Dreams", "I Fall to Pieces", "Strange", "San Antonio Rose", "She's Got You" are all songs i have on my playlist
Totally recommend listening to Patsy’s “Sweet Dreams”. If you’re looking for another artist comparable in voice and talent, I would totally recommend listening to Roy Orbison. Especially “Crying” or “Running Scared”.
Love watching you guys. Too sweet!
Love it! Future female Friday suggestion…..Mazzy Star - Fade Into You
I absolutely love seeing and listening to you both reacting to music that I heard my parents play while I was little .
You might really enjoy, from 1967, "Ode to Billy Joe", by Bobbie Gentry. She really brings you into the song with her voice.
Good call, I see they have already posted a reaction to this song tonight!
I would spend the weekends with my grandpa on the weekends
When he couldn't sleep, we would go for walks and and he would sing me this song. Thank for the memories ❤
Think about Linda Ronstadt "Blue Bayou " vocals are superb...
I just suggested that song. I didn't think anyone else would. Also your correct about the next Patsy and was not.....she went way to pop.
My grandmother absolutely loved Patsy Cline. She is an ICON!!!
Try something from the Wild Side of this era - Wanda Jackson singing 'Fujiyama Mama'.
Miss Patsy Cline ….. 😊😊 thank you Amber & Jay …. I’m reminiscing of all my old nannies & grandfathers …. 💚
need to play a 13 year old LeAnn Rhimes, a patsy cline song "Blue"
Walkin After Midnight was actually Patsy Clines first song she recorded in 1957 when she recorded with 4 star records.
