We have some talented singers now too. It's just the music business that forces artists to use it, convincing them they aren't marketable without it. Here's hoping that tendency fades with time, and that in the near future artists insist on clean recordings with the management of the label they're signed to. PS: wanted to add that although artists of the past didn't have auto-tune, in all fairness some of them DID use some overdubbing effects during recording.
@@sadee1287 ...I agree with you.. Alot of today's real artists are not signing with major labels because they don't want to be a "product". They want to be able to play and show their gifts. Most of the people I listen to are not radio personalities they are real musicians and singers!

They most certainly did have the ability to record in studio and use production techniques such as mixing and effects like echo. They could also splice and rearrange the audio as desired, adding or subtracting percussion or changing the layering of vocals over instrumentation. These weren't "scratch vocals" as it's called in the music business. This video was in no way live - she's lip synching her studio recording in front of the camera. That's not to take away anything from Patsy's vocal abilities. Her studio recording was not overproduced (and a good music producer knows the difference between too much and too little), so the pure quality and range of her voice is maintained.
"Crazy" was one of the first big hits written by Willie Nelson. Even more impressive, this song holds the title of the all-time #1 played record in jukeboxes!! This is one of her four big Country hits that also hit the Top 20 on the pop charts.
Patsy Cline is legendary and Iconic who's gone to soon tragically. Even her biography is legendary. RIP to our heavenly country music singer Patsy Cline.
Written in the back of a cab in Houston! Willie worked a club on one side of Houston, but he lived right on the other side of town, so the cab ride home was his writing time.
Many people say this is the most perfectly-sung song of all time. Every delay, every bent note, every soft breath. The legend is that she was sick with a fever and said "I'll give you one take, boys."
Patsy was amazing. She was the first female country singer who had the nerve to be sexy. She was not treated well in her early career by her partner but she came through and became a role model for singers like Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton.

Yes that is my favourite. unfortunately, it was kind of ruined after sadistic serial killer Mick Taylor from Wolf Creek was playing it whilst dismembering one of his victims!
Another artist with major Patsy vibes... who I don't actually expect them to react to because she never really became a big name... was Mandy Barnett. Her 1996 debut album was eerily Patsy-esque.
Written by the one and only Willie Nelson. Although he doesn't own the rights to it. My bad, I had to look it up. It isn't Willie Nelson who doesn't have the rights to the song but Bob Seger who doesn't have the rights to "Old Time Rock N Roll". They are the two most played songs on jukeboxes of all time.
They used to call her "the woman with a teardrop in her voice". She was amazing. She died so tragically and so young. In addition to the other Patsy Cline songs people have suggested here, you should check out her song "She's Got You".
Patsy Cline was ahead of her time. She was NOT a country singer, they just had her singing country music. She should have been singing blues, soul, or jazz. But, I'm glad she sang country music, because it is how I learned to love her....A Legend...
Oh yes. Patsy is another one, like Karen Carpenter, who should have been recording big band era standards...and doubtless would have done had she not left us so terribly soon.
Crazy sounds like a standard song to me. I don't claim to be knowledgeable about what makes a song fit into whatever genre, but I don't see what makes this a country song, other than we all think of Patsy Cline as a country singer.
@@natescott3832 You are so right. Especially back in the late 50's, early 60's. This song did not fit the Country genre. But, that is how they billed it and Patsy Cline. I am just grateful that we were blessed with her beautiful voice.
Patsy was a staple in our house when I was growing up, therefore I knew every word of this song. She was amazing, many great songs. In Texas we have a Patsy Cline Tribute Band and they’ve been around for years. The girl who does Patsy, almost gets those notes, but just a hair off. There will never be another Patsy.
Patsy is the Queen of Country, she is the greatest female singer in the genre, and she is the one whonall the frames in country, aspire to...We all love Patsy... She was killed in a plane crash...She is Country Music's Angel..
@@lisalotwin3154 George Martin, Gus Dudgeon and Tony Visconti were great music producers. Today's producers create music that are worse than demos of the 60's. A great example is Neil Diamond's Cherry Cherry which is a demo recording. After doing a studio version decided to go with the demo. Have Neil's 12 Songs and After Dark. Both albums are poorly produced. The same can be said for Bob Dylan's Time Out Of Mind which won an Emmy for best album.
This song was written by Willie Nelson if you can believe that! Like others you've covered, Buddy Holly, John Denver, Jim Croce, etc. Patsy died on March 5, 1963 in an airplane crash. She was a mentor and friend of Lorretta Lynn, who even named one of her twin daughters Patsy in her honor. A voice like hers comes along once in a lifetime.
Patsy Cline, is legendary in Counrty music. This is old school, true contry music. And Dolly Is from the same era of legends. Charlie Pride.....is a must. His voice has a deep rich tone that is soothing to experience, as well.
Patsy Cline is a rabbit hole definitely worth going down! I'm 51 and she's been my favorite female singer since I was 17. Her voice is sheer perfection.
This was recorded before high fidelity audio was even invented, and still her voice is still so clear and pure over the static. She's definitely once the top five female singers of all time. With Etta James, Dolly, Allison Kraus, and Dion Warwick.
Alison Krauss. We all have our favorites. When I heard Alison for the first time, I was hooked. As a fan of many of an eclectic assortment of genres, that's happened with very few singers and composers I've come across. No disrespect to the other four mentioned here, they are great singers in their own right and I like them. It's just that Alison's gift is so powerful and clean and hits me in the depth of my soul and spirit. Beautiful.
I love Patsy, I grew up listening to her beautiful voice & was devastated when she passed away so young😢 Crazy is written by Willie Nelson 💥Not sure if you have watched Sweet Dreams a movie about her life 🥰 Walking After Midnight is another great Patsy song 💎💎💎
Quite possibly the greatest female singer of all time. An absolute legend who left us too soon. And one of the greatest songs of all time, written by the iconic Willie Nelson.
When you factor on the short time Patsy was with us, it's really remarkable to see the everlasting legacy she left behind. One can only imagine what the world could have had with just 10 more years of Patsy. #LegendsNeverDie
She almost didn't record it. Willie has such weird phrasing when he sings, and she didn't think she could do the song. Listen to Willie"s version--it's much "choppier".
Singing a Patsy Cline song is the yardstick many people use to see how other women vocalists can hang. There are some ladies out there who do Patsy's songs justice, but she will always own them. Give walkin' after midnight a try next.
Saw her sing that at her ranch in '94 acapella and she is amazing! You could have heard a pin drop and she didn't need the microphone her voice is soooooo strong. You could have heard a pin drop when she started to sing! Such a sweet lady as well!
This song was written by none other than Willie Nelson! Patsy originally didn't want to do it! But she passed away after a plane crash in 1963. And in the video, the live shots in the video were from a TV show she did a few months after a horrific car crash she was in. The headband was holding a wig on her head. Other songs to listen to: "Walkin' after Midnight", "I fall to pieces", "Please Come Home, Bill Bailey", "Blue Moon of Kentucky", "Back in Baby's Arms", "Three Cigarettes in the Ashtray", "San Antonio Rose", "Sweet Dreams", and "A Poor Man's Rose (or a Rich Man's Gold)." She's one of the most important figures in country music!
Omg, Hearing patsy Cline singing this again after soo many years, had me crying like I did when the News came out that she died in the plane crash. Such a beautifully talented woman who left this world entirely much too soon.
This isn’t just good… this is one of the best vocal performances of all time. This is perfection. Sublime. Patsy was on a different level, even from other great singers. If I could pick just 5 songs to broadcast out into space to demonstrate the best of what we produced and that encapsulate the full the range of what it means to be human - this would be one of them (Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, would be another… not sure of others, but Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma might be one…)
Patsy is one of the best vocalist of all time male or female. She's my all time favorite singer. She's got so many great songs you should listen to much more. This song is the ultimate song to slow dance to. I taught my nephews how from this song.
The piano that you liked so much was played by a session musician named Floyd Cramer, who had his own hit in 1960 with an instrumental called "Last Date". He played piano in a lot of country/country rock records over the years, and his technique, which he called "double fingering", is instantly recognizable, as it is here.
Patsy was an amazing talent. So sad that we lost her at such a young age. So glad that she sang this song. Although Willie wrote and performed it as well...NOBODY delivered it like Patsy did.
''I got a head full of feeling higher and an earful of Patsy Cline Theres no one who can touch her. i'll hang on every line''............with thanks to Jimmy Buffett. Patsy is simply the base line on who all female vocalists need to better, and i've never heard anyone who can. So pleased that greatness is being realised by younger generations.

"I Fall to Pieces" is a must - It's not a a falsetto, it's a head voice...
Head voice with a bit of vibrato, maybe that’s what made them think falsetto. (?) Wish I could sing half as well as Miss Patsy!
@@sharonkame471 Agree. Falsetto NEVER refers to a female singer, only male. If she sings high, it's a high range.
Sounds like a yodel to me.
@@sandrasofiahsexton3917 Patsy could yodel, and did incorporate a bit of yodeling into her songs, when it fit.
Yes that is my favourite. unfortunately, it was kind of ruined after sadistic serial killer Mick Taylor from Wolf Creek was playing it whilst dismembering one of his victims!
Check out LeAnn Rimes "Blue" (1996)
LeAnn gives off a big Patsy Cline vibe on that one.
Great suggestion !
And she was 13 when she recorded it!
Another artist with major Patsy vibes... who I don't actually expect them to react to because she never really became a big name... was Mandy Barnett. Her 1996 debut album was eerily Patsy-esque.
I just posted the link. Leann won The Masked Singer last season
Because the song was written for Patsy, but she died before she could record it.
Wow. Who does? Why doesn't he?
Have you heard Willie doing "Warmth of the Sun"? It's a Beach Boys tune and they sing backup harmonies for him. It's on YT.
@@bobr4987 will have to give that a listen.
Dino, I remember hearing that story, too. That Willie sold Crazy for $50 when he was a starving artist. 🤷🏻♀️
Willie didn't own the rights for a long time, but he got them back a long time ago though.
Im a black woman n Her, Loretta Lynn n Dolly have been some of my fav singers ever....🥰🥰🥰
Good is good regardless of color. Music is universal and unites us. The world needs more music. :)
Music has No Color it just Soothes the Heart & Soul..
If your good your good dosen't matter who u are or what color u are
Classic Country is soo much better than new country
@@jessicajames1599 New country is just pop with a twang. It’s so bad.
They used to call her "the woman with a teardrop in her voice". She was amazing. She died so tragically and so young. In addition to the other Patsy Cline songs people have suggested here, you should check out her song "She's Got You".
Patsy Cline’s voice is just incredible. Shes truly amazing! ❤❤
This song definitely doesn't sound like a typical country song. I think Wille Nelson wrote, maybe His version sounds more country, I don't remember.
She was a rocker, ahead of her time, and taken too soon!
Song written by Willie Nelson. Great writing, arranging, and vocal interpretation.
👍👍👏👏👏👏👌
Walking after midnight!!! 🙏
Patsy what a voice she had...
Her voice gives me the chills! Absolutely one of the best, ever!!
Mlm
Smooth as molasses. She’s a flat footed singer. All she needs is to just stand there and mesmerize you with her voice.
That's all most singers of that era needed to do. They didn't need visual distractions like today's so called singers.
@@kenchristie9214 Amen
@@kenchristie9214 so true. No dancers, no crazy costumes, no auto tune. No over production.
Add some Connie Francis!!!
Patsy Cline😍😍😁
Patsy Cline is a rabbit hole definitely worth going down! I'm 51 and she's been my favorite female singer since I was 17. Her voice is sheer perfection.
This was recorded before high fidelity audio was even invented, and still her voice is still so clear and pure over the static. She's definitely once the top five female singers of all time. With Etta James, Dolly, Allison Kraus, and Dion Warwick.
*Dionne Warwick
Alison Krauss. We all have our favorites. When I heard Alison for the first time, I was hooked. As a fan of many of an eclectic assortment of genres, that's happened with very few singers and composers I've come across. No disrespect to the other four mentioned here, they are great singers in their own right and I like them. It's just that Alison's gift is so powerful and clean and hits me in the depth of my soul and spirit. Beautiful.
It absolutely was high fidelity stereo.
This is real PURE Country ! If you love Patsy - try my next favorite song - Fall to Pieces.
Quite possibly the greatest female singer of all time. An absolute legend who left us too soon. And one of the greatest songs of all time, written by the iconic Willie Nelson.
PATSY CLINE is AMAZING!!!
"Walking After Midnight" is fantastic but YES, ANYTHING BY PATSY is amazing!
Her VOICE RANGE and how CLEAN it is is beyond!
Her voice is still sexy to this day. It gives me goosebumps and I listen to nothing but heavy metal
If you'v got leaving in your mind...." It will break your heart. What a voice.
I love all her songs especially Crazy & Walking after midnight
@@JSyder-co3xp it's time to add a bit of sexy, don't ya think 😉
Her singing was effortless! She didn't have to work to hit ANY note. Her low register was ridiculous, easily the best ever!
Amazing voice. Just blows you away
When you factor on the short time Patsy was with us, it's really remarkable to see the everlasting legacy she left behind. One can only imagine what the world could have had with just 10 more years of Patsy.
#LegendsNeverDie
Patsy is such a legend! Country and beyond.
Another suggestion for female Friday - Dusty Springfield - Son of a Preacher Man
Her phrasing / timing is amazing , it adds a whole dimension to song
Willie Nelson is one hell of a song writer and Patsy nailed it!
She almost didn't record it. Willie has such weird phrasing when he sings, and she didn't think she could do the song. Listen to Willie"s version--it's much "choppier".
Just goosebumps, unbelievable - she is really the best female country artist
Singing a Patsy Cline song is the yardstick many people use to see how other women vocalists can hang. There are some ladies out there who do Patsy's songs justice, but she will always own them. Give walkin' after midnight a try next.
Patsy Cline ,Karen Carpenter ,Linda Ronstadt and Ella Fitzgerald --the greatest voices
And now you NEED to check out Loretta Lynn, Coal Miner's Daughter!!
She had problems with her husband so this song was personal to her! Miss her very much!
I Fall to Pieces.... she has one of the most beautiful voices ever
The real deal! Greatest female singer of all time. x
Omg, Hearing patsy Cline singing this again after soo many years, had me crying like I did when the News came out that she died in the plane crash. Such a beautifully talented woman who left this world entirely much too soon.
The best female vocalist who died way too young. A small Plane crash 😢
As country icons go for pure vocal talent, there's Patsy and then there's everyone else.
Good music never goes bad. It gets better with time .
She definitely had a phenomenal voice , and left this world before her time at only 30 years old
What a great comment - "That was the ultimate close your eyes song!!" Love Female Fridays!
I'd include Anything by Sam Cooke!!!
Patsy is one of the best vocalist of all time male or female. She's my all time favorite singer. She's got so many great songs you should listen to much more. This song is the ultimate song to slow dance to. I taught my nephews how from this song.
It doesn't get any more amazing than Patsy Cline. Her voice just makes your emotions come to the surface.
The piano that you liked so much was played by a session musician named Floyd Cramer, who had his own hit in 1960 with an instrumental called "Last Date". He played piano in a lot of country/country rock records over the years, and his technique, which he called "double fingering", is instantly recognizable, as it is here.
I believe the Jordanaires were the backup singers.
Floyd has a grandson Jason Coleman who plays just as good as his grandfather!!!
She died in a plane crash in 1963, when I was only 2 years old. And yet she is my favorite singer of all time. The great Patsy Cline.
The range and the POWER in her voice.
Patsy was an amazing talent. So sad that we lost her at such a young age. So glad that she sang this song. Although Willie wrote and performed it as well...NOBODY delivered it like Patsy did.
When you consider how “primitive” sound equipment and recording was back then. Wow! Pure talent!!
You had to have talent back then no manufactured, formula music back then
Another good one by her was sweet dreams. By patsy cline.
''I got a head full of feeling higher and an earful of Patsy Cline
Theres no one who can touch her. i'll hang on every line''............with thanks to Jimmy Buffett. Patsy is simply the base line on who all female vocalists need to better, and i've never heard anyone who can. So pleased that greatness is being realised by younger generations.
She was amazing unfortunately we lost her in a airplane crash she had so much more music that she never got to share.
I will suggest walking after midnight!
love the reaction
