"Blue” was written in 15 minutes by Bill Mack. In his autobiography Bill Mack’s Memories from the Trenches of Broadcasting. In it, he maintained that he never had Cline in mind while writing the song. Leeann was only 13 when she recorded it. At 14 she recorded "How Do I Live" It was to be used in the movie "Con Air". Hollywood executives thought LeAnn Rimes was too young to sing the song & got Trisha Yearwood to record the song.
There is also a video of Trisha and LeAnn doing the song together it's worth the watch. In my opinion Leann did the better single but I do like the combo of them together.

Beautiful voice, beautiful song and she was only 13 years old when this record was released. She is blessed with an angelic voice and the 50s sound is correct amny compared her to Patsy Cline. Please "Blue Bayou" by Linda Ronstadt next.
Absolutely, love Linda Ronstadt!!! Blue Bayou is a great one, I also like the one she does with Aaron Neville called I don’t know much (all I need to know
She was only 13 years old when doing this video. Before she got famous, she sang at the Georgia State Fair right after my son sang. She was only 8 years old & man, she made everyone stop in their tracks to watch her. She's amazing! Even at 8 years old singing Unchained Melody!
Classic song, classic style, and yes, the sound is a yodel. Beautiful and a welcome addition to Female Friday. Great choice and thanks for another great reaction.
When She came out with this song it was an INSTANT hit. Reminded everyone of Patsy Cline, who was to record this song but passed away before she could do it. Even as a 13 year old, she was touted as having that old soul feel to her voice.
Yes, although Jay said her voice reminded him of Dolly Parton, it's really much closer to Patsy Cline's--even though Leann was only 13 years old when she recorded "Blue." Amazing!
Mid nineties song here very pure country Young singer LeAnn Rimes displays here very iconic...I think at the time everyone thought she was 30+ yrs old but yeah she was 11yrs old then re recorded the song to sound better . Well Done LeAnn Rimes.
Leanne, was only 13, when she blew the music worlds minds with her God given voice, with this very song!!! No one, no one! Since, the Eternal Patsy Cline, has ever kicked our ass like this!! Thank you Jay and Amber, for sharing, and Loving this Amazing talent!!!❤
Hey guys. This song is old. It was pitched to Patsy Cline via a tape given to her husband. Sadly Patsy died before recording it. Leann does a great job on it. There is another great performance of it worth listening to as well. There is a family bluegrass/gospel band called The Petersens. One of the gals (Ellen) sings this song and is equally amazing. You should check out their band too. That is indeed yodeling. Whenever you hear that break at the high end (even if it's just one note) it's a yodel.
Patsy died before she ever heard the song. It was written in 1958 by Bill Mack. He has continually denied that he wrote it specially for Cline. Before LeAnn, the song was recorded by at least five artists (Mack himself in 1958, Kenny Roberts in 1966, Roy Drusky circa 1960-70s, Polly Stephens Exley in the late 1980s, and Kathryn Pitt in 1993).
I remember the first time I heard this song, I flat-out thought it was an unreleased track from Patsy Cline. LeAnn was so young when she recorded this. She has an incredible voice. Try listening to One Way Ticket and How Do I Live. Both awesome! Great reaction…💕
Leann Rimes had an incredibly mature voice for someone so young. You’ll have to listen to her stellar How Do I Live Without You, one of the biggest hit songs ever. She also did a duet with Elton John that hit #29 in 1999: Written In The Stars.
If you like the yodeling part you may want to listen to mule skinner blues originally aJimmie Roger's tune covered by Lean Rimes and Dollie Parton separate recordings
Despite info to the contrary, patsy cline was never any where near this song. But Leanne won all kinds of awards for her magnificent yodeling and vocal performance! So glad you’re doing this song.
Bill Mack wrote this song in 1958, in a matter of 15-20 minutes. He hoped to successfully pitch it to Patsy Cline. He recorded a demo and sent it to 4 star records, who signed Ms. Cline in 1954. When she moved to Decca Records, he sent a copy of the demo to them. It's not clear if she ever actually heard the demo.
Thank you for playing LeAnn Rimes! I love her voice…she’s amazing. You’ve got to listen to her rendition of Crazy!! She also did a live tribute performance for Patsy Cline a few years back that was incredible! BTW, I think she was 14 when she recorded Blue.
This was her first hit and it killed the record charts going on an impressive run. I was crushing so hard on her when I was 14. 1996 this song came out.
I'm a little late to the Show but your video came up on my screen and there is no way I would ever pass up an opportunity to miss this song by LeAnn Rimes. I'm going to guess you guys know the song 'Crazy'. It has gone down in history of one of our Countries greatest hits of all time and it is the most played song on the old juke boxes which were in every diner and restaurant. I bring it up because the singer was Patsy Cline, the most famous Country singer of all at that time. The song, 'Blue' was meant for her to sing but tragedy struck and Patsy died in a plane crash. Eventually, the people who owned the rights to the song discovered LeAnn and she recorded it at 13 or 14 years old. Her voice is similar to Patsy's and LeAnn through the years has sung at many tributes to Patsy Cline and the audience always marvels how well LeAnn sings her songs. Yes, you just heard "Greatness" !
How Do I Live Without You is her best in my opinion, she's got an awesome powerful voice! She's the perfect singer to do a song like this, the yodeling and her voice, stunning!
You guys are awesome. She is one of the best singers ever! Totally a modern day Patsy Cline. She won the masked singer a few years ago. Her voice is even richer now…❤️🎶
I’ve had the great pleasure of seeing LeAnn in concert in a small venue. The house was packed and it was a very intimate setting. Let me say, this woman is phenomenal live!!! She is one of the very few artist that I have seen that sound better live than on recording. I would see her an infinite amount of times over most artists, she is that amazing!
If Leanne sounds a bit like the Amazing Patsy Cline it's because this song was written for Patsy prior to her death in a Plane crash. Leanne was only 13 as a Teen Country Phenom who was given this song and won Awards for her mature voice and this song, this recording back in 1996. Leanne has one of those voices where she can sing any genre. She 's performed with many other artists including Jon Bon Jovi.
Leann has a great voice, and is a great technical singer. Some of her bests, are her versions of Righteous Brothers Unchained Melody 1998 AMA Awards or Hank Williams I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry AMC Awards. How Do I Live, Commitment, I Need You, Can't Fight the Moonlight, You Light Up My Life, Nothing Bout' Love Makes Sense, Probably Wouldn't Be This Way, she did an awesome version of Prince's Purple Rain.
The world had the same reaction the first time we saw her perform this song! Everyone was like "WHAT?!" She recorded BLUE, with its obvious Patsy Cline essences, when she was 13. The next year, it made her, at 14, the youngest Grammy winner ever! Did you notice the Hank Williams, Sr. reference "so lonely I could cry"? Listen to I'M SO LONESOME I COULD CRY by Hank Williams.
I remember hearing this in the car on the way home with my wife and young son. I thought it was Patsy Cline and at the end of the song the DJ said it was a young girl by the name of Leanne Rimes. Bought the album the next day! What a voice.
@@williamblessitt9957 Kinda. If you find her "All that" album, the version of Blue is the earlier recording. You can tell she re-recorded it for this release, so she was 13 singing this version. You can get a sense of her growth as a singer in such a short time.
The word you were looking for is “modulation,” when you were talking about the yodeling aspect. You have very good ears. I knew exactly what you meant. It’s a combination of yodeling, modulation, and melisma. ❤️ Great content. She was a teenager here!!!
Brilliant. Went across the pond with some friends 25 years ago and we spent three weeks listening to this and Eric Clapton's 'Change the World' on the radio while driving 4000 miles from L.A. through San Francisco, Death Valley, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Tucson and Mexico before ending-up in San Diego where I bought this CD single before we flew back home.
I remember when this song first came out, everyone thought she would be the next Patsy Cline. Unfortunately she decided to head into more pop/country later on but Blue will always be an amazing debut hit and showcase of her talent. ♥️♥️

I was visiting with the engineer/producer and made an inquiry about something and he said he had just recorded a great artist and played me a track. I was very impressed after listening. He then said,”she is only 12 years old”. I was able to hear her right after the recording session. That recording is how she came to the attention of Curb Records. The recording was made in Clovis,NM at the Norman Petty Studio by Johnny Mulhair.
I love this song. When it came out people can't stop requesting it from the radio stations. She was you and won an award for this song. She does sound a lot like Pasty Cline.
Love this song so much! I sang this in my school's talent show, and I won with it because no one else sang anything like it, and I nailed it. It was a difficult song technically to get, and I planned to enter it that year, and I worked on it, and the hardest part was the yodeling, but finally, I ended up getting it, and I entered it when I was 15, and most of the people in the audience were impressed because I was so young. Love this song it's so nostalgic for me because of the talent show, and I really love this song. LeAnn Rimes is so underrated, and I'm glad you guys reacted to her. I think you should check out her other songs, like How do I live without you, I need you, and Nothin' Better to do.
She also did a great song called "The Story," but I HIGHLY recommend that you do the original by Brandi Carlile. Brandi's voice will blow you away. And I think the wavering part of Leann's voice that you asked about is called a "trill". You can also call it "warbling".
Omg yes! I’ve been requesting Brandi Carlile, she’s one of my favorite artist! And her voice is just amazing, and her new album is just *muah*. Definitely should do Brandi’s original version of “The Story”
She also yodels extremely well in 'Cowboy's Sweetheart'! Edit- Almost forgot- her mama used to bring her up to the Waffle House in Garland when she was about 10 and she'd sing for the patrons. My neighbor was one of those lucky folks.

LeAnn is a great talent, but I prefer Trisha Yearwood's version of "How Do I Live" over hers.
@@meredithchandler73 agree
There is also a video of Trisha and LeAnn doing the song together it's worth the watch. In my opinion Leann did the better single but I do like the combo of them together.
13? really? she looks about 30 in the video. wow.
Another Female Friday is Skeeter Davis, End of the World. And that sound of LeAnn's is a short yodel. Check out some of the videos of her way younger than this. She is a very good yodeler.
Beautiful voice, beautiful song and she was only 13 years old when this record was released. She is blessed with an angelic voice and the 50s sound is correct amny compared her to Patsy Cline. Please "Blue Bayou" by Linda Ronstadt next.
Cattle call by her you guys would love
Absolutely, love Linda Ronstadt!!! Blue Bayou is a great one, I also like the one she does with Aaron Neville called I don’t know much (all I need to know
Nobody will ever touch Linda Ronstadt's Blue Bayou
Written by Willie Nelson
@@rogerhigham3973 What did Willie write?
You really need to try K D Lang's version of Hallelujah or her duet with Roy Orbison on his song Crying
excellent suggestion! KD Lang is great - Constant Craving would be a good one to react too as well.
Yes, k.d. lang "Crying"...hell yeah!
YES!!100%
@@jessicabelle2011 yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Her break-out song at 13 years old!!!
Lots of great songs by LeAnn over the years.
She has a great version of "Crazy".
Pure talent!! Nothing fake!!!
She does a duet with Eddie Arnold on her first album--"Cattle Call". Yodeling all over the place! :D
They’ll dig that! 😁
YES! Please yes!
YES they'd love it
Another great song
Mid nineties song here very pure country Young singer LeAnn Rimes displays here very iconic...I think at the time everyone thought she was 30+ yrs old but yeah she was 11yrs old then re recorded the song to sound better . Well Done LeAnn Rimes.
Leanne, was only 13, when she blew the music worlds minds with her God given voice, with this very song!!!
No one, no one! Since, the Eternal Patsy Cline, has ever kicked our ass like this!!
Thank you Jay and Amber, for sharing, and Loving this Amazing talent!!!❤
I close my eyes and hear Patsy Cline. One of my favorites
She was 13 when she recorded this song. She won 2 Grammy awards for this song but was totally snubbed by the Country Music Awards the same year.
I was ready to post that it sounds like a patsy cline song, then I read your post👍
I always feel like I've heard Patsy's version too but I guess it's just her voice is so distinct combined with Leann's take, you can imagine Patsy's
Love this song, one of those that gets repeated on my stereo!!!
@@belindakennedy5828 But you ignored the comment above yours.. Funny how people have selective reading.
This'll blow your mind even more. She was T-H-I-R-T-E-E-N‼️ when she sang this. The song was originally released in 1958 by Bill Mack.
Her timing is also perfect.
There's a lot of amazing vocalists and LeAnn Rimes is one of them.
awww Amber you always look so pretty and exude happiness. Love the hoodie color.
Thanks!
You've made me so very happy. BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS. Do that one please!!!!
This reminded me of Tanya Tucker, who was 13 when she had her first hit Delta Dawn.
YES!!!! Begging for them to react to Young Tanya Tucker
Delta Dawn
What's Your Momma's Name
No Man's Land
Also, Marie Osmond when she had the hit "Paper Roses" at age 13!
I love that song
"Strong enough to bend" is my favorite T.T. song
I keep saying I'm not into country music and then I listen to stuff like this and realize there's a looooooooooooot of exceptions. Man, so wonderful.
Patsy DID record it:
ua-cam.com/video/nqZHdjoxPP8/v-deo.html
@@mjrbuffettfan That's her picture. But, it's LeAnne Rimes voice.
@@darrinlindsey apparently, Patsy’s husband pitched the idea to her in 1962. Whether she intended to is not known.
I still like Patsy better.
Thank you for playing LeAnn Rimes! I love her voice…she’s amazing. You’ve got to listen to her rendition of Crazy!! She also did a live tribute performance for Patsy Cline a few years back that was incredible! BTW, I think she was 14 when she recorded Blue.
She absolutely nails this song. I so enjoyed her
❤🎵 Great Tune !! So glad you guys are doing this one ! She was only 13 ! What a voice !!
She's done some amazing covers: "Crazy" by Patsy Cline, "Unchained Melody" (her high notes are off the charts in this one!)
How Do I Live Without You is her best in my opinion, she's got an awesome powerful voice! She's the perfect singer to do a song like this, the yodeling and her voice, stunning!
I don't listen to much county at all, but there's a couple of country tunes that do that feeling for me, and this has always been one of them.
And that isn't even one of her best songs. She is amazing.
You enjoyed the heavenly voice of Leann Rimes singing “Blue.”
Her rendition of “Amazing Grace” will blow you away.
She was 14 when this song was released
You guys are awesome. She is one of the best singers ever! Totally a modern day Patsy Cline. She won the masked singer a few years ago. Her voice is even richer now…❤️🎶
I’ve had the great pleasure of seeing LeAnn in concert in a small venue. The house was packed and it was a very intimate setting. Let me say, this woman is phenomenal live!!! She is one of the very few artist that I have seen that sound better live than on recording. I would see her an infinite amount of times over most artists, she is that amazing!
This song is 🔥🔥🔥
She has a purity to her voice. She doesn’t need to do runs. Most artist today over use the runs. Can’t believe she was 14 yrs old here!
13
If Leanne sounds a bit like the Amazing Patsy Cline it's because this song was written for Patsy prior to her death in a Plane crash. Leanne was only 13 as a Teen Country Phenom who was given this song and won Awards for her mature voice and this song, this recording back in 1996. Leanne has one of those voices where she can sing any genre. She 's performed with many other artists including Jon Bon Jovi.
Amber, the expression on your face is priceless. You can tell this song touches your soul
Her duet with Eddy Arnold on Cattle Call
I love her voice and her songs. Her cd Family really gave me chills.
She was 13 when she recorded Blue! Which is amazing at how talented she really is!!!
LeAnn was only 14 when she recorded this song. Amazing angelic voice.
She was 12 when recorded....13 when released...14 when she received the award ...agree amazing voice...
Wow....loveeee this song!!!
Since I'm new to your channel, I scrolled through your videos to see what all you've listened to/reacted to. You have such an amazing list of reallllly great songs in so many different genres! LOVE IT!! Looking forward to listening to so awesome music and watching your reactions....😊🤩
Thanks guys! So glad you found this one. Congratulations again on the new edition.😁
May I suggest you listen to Linda Ronstadt - Blue Bayou
Hearing this song year's later to this day brought tears to my eyes, this is what you call a true Country Singer, Keep on keeping on LeAnn.
“Nothing Better to Do” is a great song by her and a great video. You both would love it.
From the moment I heard her voice and then saw LeAnn Rimes I fell in love. 25 years later I still love her voice
If you want to hear more of that yodeling from Leann Rimes you should check out Cowboys sweetheart. She was about 14 when she recorded it.
I just LOVE the variety of music you guys react to. 50s, 60s, 70s...all genres. You children will grow up with such a respect and appreciation for all kinds of music. It's a beautiful thing to see. Keep it up! ❤
Great choice-she is an amazing singer!!
She first sang this song on her studio album, all that, at the age of 11. It became a hit when she signed with curb records in 1996 at the age of 13.
This was a while ago. She was literally a teenager when she made this song. Her voice is amazing. Also check out How do I live
I'm so happy you reacted to her. I get goosebumps when she belts out those notes
Love Brandi Carlile!
Omg yes! I’ve been requesting Brandi Carlile, she’s one of my favorite artist! And her voice is just amazing, and her new album is just *muah*. Definitely should do Brandi’s original version of “The Story”
@@pattyestrada6 I just listened to the new album. The woman is incapable of making a bad record.

LeAnn Rimes such a talented young woman with such a beautiful voice and I loved the way she sang Blue
Do another LeAnn Rimes song, called "How Do I Live" its so beautiful. One of my absolute favorites!
She also yodels extremely well in 'Cowboy's Sweetheart'! Edit- Almost forgot- her mama used to bring her up to the Waffle House in Garland when she was about 10 and she'd sing for the patrons. My neighbor was one of those lucky folks.
Great one, her duets are to die for!! She's sang with everyone in every genre!!
Another great song Leann sung was "How do I Live" originally from the Jesus 2000 soundtrack. Such a beautiful song.
