Also the platforms placed by the engineer have a perk that can reduce the fall damage taken when landing on them drastically. In my opinion when it comes to falling from a high place engineer has the second best option to save themself from fall damage first being of course the scout with their grappling hook.
Tip for the cheese canon: on OMEN tower events, the activation platforms detect your character a short distance above the height of the plasma waves the bottom level throws out. If you stack your cheese slightly above the platform, you can effectively ignore the waves entirely.
Another great use for the plats is blocking vertical shafts that can create shortcuts for Molly especially on Low o2 missions as Molly going up a shaft you can't follow can be a death sentence.
Tip with turrets: Use them sparingly. They will run out of ammo quickly otherwise. The ammo upgrade seems like a good way to combat this, but its only viable for escort, sabotage, and possibly elimination missions. For the rest its best to use quick placement. On the missions i listed you have time to prepare for the event beforehand while in others you will be moving around and/or need them in a pinch. Also with turret whip, dont just spam the turrets to fire constantly because it consumes 5 ammo each time. Pick your shots wisely and focus on larger enemies or groups.
Bad advice. 1.) If turrets are consuming ammo it's BECAUSE THEY'RE SHOOTING BUGS. That just means you have more primary ammo to work with, the ammo isn't magically disappearing. 2.) Turret whip does MORE damage than all 5 bullets it consumes put together, and it's an AOE explosion! Turret Whip is MORE ammo efficient not less. You want some real advice? Gemini, quick deploy, armor break, and defender System. Turret whip or not, the turrets keep shooting like normal even when you activate the ability, so make sure you're getting the most out of your turrets.
The turrets are actually somewhat intelligent. They will not shoot if there's a dwarf in front of their target. Ground level turrets therefore may be less effective, since they'll not be shooting as often if there are dwarves in the way. I tend to put them on a platform on the wall at head height so they never stop shooting as i run around the room. With the defender system mod you'll want them at the sides of the room anyway. You can refill them from any direction, even from underneath, so putting them slightly above you is not a big deal.
While I know you can't cover everything - the Plastcrete Catalyst on the shard defractor turns your platforms into explosive traps. The beam will have an AoE damage and radius boost from the point of impact (killing weaker bugs ) and a sustained beam causes the platform to explode for the stronger bugs. This is great for setting up defensive areas in Salvage and Escort missions.
Nice to see some updated info for engineer, but a topic I'd like to see is generalist builds with a minor twist for dealing with hoarders (especially solo) because i have some of the most atrocious luck among the players I know (who are on PC while I'm on PS5) I've had hoarders in an entirely different cavern from me start panicking and burrow long before I even enter the cavern, I've had them start panicking from across a giant cavern despite the fact I never even shot at it, I've even had a hoarder perform witchcraft to phase through a good 10-15 meters of rock to another cavern on magma core to escape me, the worst one was a hoarder I was staying next to and constantly hitting that moved 5 meters and just instantly burrowed despite the fact I was next to it and hitting it. So I wouldn't mind seeing some builds, for every class, from early game (like gunner minigun with the improved stun mod) to some overclock options (say spinning death or return to sender breach cutter with disruptive tuning to try stun-locking the traitorous bugs). I'd say, in my experience, scout has some of the hardest times pinning down a hoarder in solo play
I feel like anything with good burst dmg or slow down is best. Breachcutter, Brt7, Zhukovs and Boomstick help deal with hoarders fast enough. They get alerted when another enemy is damaged I think, that might be what you’re experiencing
@@Whorlando I'm certain its bugs in the hoarder A.I. they've panicked from way to far away to be normal even when I haven't been shooting at anything. I'm just tired of losing them or not even having a chance to get those resources that I'm trying things I wouldn't normally use purely as an anti-hoarder build option.
After playing a lot of od engineer in TF2 and shotguns being my all time favorite video game weapons, I absolutely fell in love with this game. I might give a try to the scout and digger because my other favorite class is pyro. Kill em with fire 🔥
I wish that you could have overclocks on the sentry's. For example there could be a overclock that when you recall it it explodes and damages everything around it but at the cost of some reserve ammo so if your sentry's are out of ammo but there is a metric fuckton glyphids around it then it explodes and does damage but it takes some of your max ammo from the get go
Even when playing with people much higher level and with much more experience in the game than me, i almost always have far more kills as an engineer. Between the lok rifle, the defractor, and turrets, i can kill and do kill pretty much everything. I never come even close to feeling as useful with the other classes.
14:08 another thing i've recent;y doen that worked pretty well is plase a stacked cheese platform towere and place the platform behind it if there isnt natrual rock cover in that spot and also make a bridge going above the caretaker in hight so the shield phase cant hit you :3 took like a full resuply to set everything up tho but i usually heavily overmine nitra in caretaker missions anways ig, though you could probably jsut work on it as you go through the mission and need to resupply natrually to save on ammo but uh yeah :3
I always picked up Turret Whip because i didn't need/like that much dps in my shotgun but never really made use of it. A few days ago i saw this video and watched you use it and i was surprised how awesome it looked. Ever since i've been using it and i've been having a blast, properly used even allows you to save both turret and shotgun ammo.
Actually, question I just had: How does engie's Turret Arc interact with other sources of electricity like Scout's electric bolts or those crystals in the Crystalline Caverns? I've never actually thought to test this out myself so I have no idea...
Any advice for a semi-greenbeard? I just promoted Engi for the second time yesterday and I'm starting to get overclocks. I try to have a class setup for each mission type but idk of thats the way to go. Personally I feel like I need more overclocks but I can't tell if they make a difference or if I just need to get better lol
Whats up Marco. Honestly just find a setup of weapons that you like to use and adjust THOSE weapons for each mission type. Engi's weapons are extremely flexible and if you wanted to say use shotgun and diffractor, there are ways you can set them up to be viable on any mission type. Don't rush yourself too fast and experiment with the different overclocks as you unlock them.
I have a new class idea and i know that it shakes the balance a bit having more than 4 but just hear me out. A jack of all trades he would be able to use EVERYTHING including overclocks but it is a bit worse and you can only have 1 of each type (excluding the traversel tools like the grappling hook and drills and the support? tools like the flare gun and sentry's but has the cost of not being able to use the other one for example if you take the drills and grappling hook you cant take the flare gun or bubble shield). For example you could have the engneers breech cutter as a secondary, the gunners rocket pods, the scouts grappling hook, the gunners halo 3 bubble shield, and the engineers shredder drones but everything has less ammo, slightly less damage, slightly worse overclocks (like the ones that just give you a stat boost or for example the nuke overclock has less radiation and a smaller radius), a shorter radius (for like the bubble shield), or overheats faster. So in summary a class that does everything but slightly shittier.

On industrial sabotage I like to make a cheese halo. A ring high just around the force field. Gives easy access to the weak points
