I really appreciate you helping me out in response to my question. I am pleased there is someone looking out for all us. Thanks for your directness and honesty
Thanks Daniel for your great information and I appreciate your sympathy for people like me who are just trying to learn I’m watching these videos over and over again and enjoying just as much every time thanks a lot God bless you
I watch a few coin channels and this is the best by far. Really no click bait and straight to the point. I will be bringing on all this guys videos today. Lol. Very good commentating.
Thank you. This was very clear. I hope people will hear what you're saying. I can see why you would get frustrated with we, the uninformed and over zealous!! As a new cherry picking roll hunting copper fevered gal, I DO try to learn, really pay attention to how this stuff works. As of yet I haven't gone to a coin shop asking questions that I probably can figure out with a little research. I really do appreciate you folks that have been in this business for long enough to know what's real and what's a lightning strikes chance at finding that great dream penny.. ......(but it COULD happen). Lol. Thanks again. You're appreciated.
I love you videos Daniel! Straight to the point and real. You're the only professional on UA-cam I've found that is actually trying to help the novices out there learn. You are much appreciated here in small town Texas!
The split date is October 2, 1982 when they changed over from full copper planchets to the "zincsters" as I call them! There were exactly 90 mintage days for the 82 zincsters which means of all the zinc pennies, THESE ARE THE RAREST!!!! In comparison to all the years since that they have been punching out zincsters, the 82 zinc penny has the lowest mintage number next to 2008 when they were ending the Memorial back design. and minted the second lowest mintage for zince pennies with the Memorial reverse design. It's only my opinion but I do believe that eventually this low mintage number will play a part in future collector values for these particular 82's as more and more of them are damaged, lost and disappear from circulation. Just a speculative thought!!!
Glad I am not into mistake coins. I have enough problems with the main coins I collect. God bless them folks with good eyes and loupes looking for these treasures.
Good for you! I’m so glad theres people reminding the public only maybe TWO of the rare coins are graded and known. It could be the same coin resubmitted for regrading! I think theres other coin channels on UA-cam that hype the video titles for clicks or membership, but are talking about “rare” coins without emphasizing the word RARE. Honesty is important, its why Daniel is such a great resource.
Lol this guy is awesome u prepare people for the worst especially for those like myself that are new to the coin world every coin that even looks similar or the date is the same they see it how they think it is not how it really is. There's a reason why there's so much being offered for a coin because of its rarities. I hope u continue to keep it real with honest feedback and preparation
Hi, this is Albin Roman I want to thank you for the great video about the 1982/1983 now I have the clear picture of the 1982 mystery l think 😮 you are right 😂 the little circle on the top of the 8 is the difference.
I respect and thank you much for such clear informations I am Jamaican in Jamaica and have been following some of these coins advising programs here and in fact sometimes become excited while at other times stress because i have some US and other coins here in my possession Now you have been so so very clear in which I do understand clearer Therfore I really really appreciate and respect how you deliberate I really truly thank you for clearing my mind set All the best
Thank u for clarifying that sometimes it does get confusing especially when you are looking at pennies ,Nichols, dimes, quarters, etc. It's alot to keep separate thanks again
Goodmorning. A friend had a stamp/coin store. People came in with stamps (yes stamp is a bad word on this video) haha. From the 1940-50's thinking there going to retire. He burst several dozens of peoples bubbles. Great video. Did a graveyard shift time to sleep.👍👍👍
For the facebook groups related to the hobby we are flooded daily with confused folks asking about the 1982 Pennies. I always tell them that what they are looking for has to meet 4 criteria 1) 1982 2) D-Mint 3) Small Date 4) Copper Coin (approximately 3.1 grams). If it doesn't meet all 4 of those criteria they don't have what they are looking for. I also tell them the odds of finding one. Too many folks waste an inordinate amount of time chasing these only to end up with nothing in return (2 confirmed out of over 6 billion 1982 D-Mints). Nothing wrong with casually checking while you are looking for other things, but definitely wouldn't chase these.
I am going to start going through rolls to sort the copper pre 1982 to sell for double price to a copper stacker. Can you point me in direction on any of the coins I should separate. I was born in 1982 so I save those. You said the rare ones have been found?
I really appreciate your help. I'm new to this and I have gobs of pennies that I've put into baggies and labeled for further research. The 1982-83 pennies are really hard to identify. I've done as you suggested, bought a scale and microscope. Not looking to get rich just a hobby. I enjoy doing the research and watching videos. I'll take a look at that red book as well.
The best thing about being a coin collector! You're never broke. I have a beautiful scratch free brown, 1982 D small date. 2.5 grams. It's in my personal collection. I've been into the hobby for 4 years. Research pays off. Remember!! It's supposed to be fun. Happy Hunting..
Interesting. This is my first time checking out one of your videos. It was upfront and honest. I recently bought a small coin scale from an eBay seller because I inherited my Mother's modest coin collection. I came across a 1982 large date (apparently) and it weighs 3.1 grams. I checked it against two other 1982 small date pennies that each weigh 2.5 grams. Since I still have my microscope from my high school days, I'll check it out closer than I could with my magnifying glass. among these coins are 6 Morgan dollars from 1879 to 1892 and a 1922 Peace dollar. some walking Lady Liberty half dollars from the 1940's and various silver dimes and quarters from similar years. Also a lot of pennies from the teens, 20's, 30's 40's (no copper 1943, just a steel one), 50's etc. I intend on getting a red book as suggested. So far it's been fun to go through them all, separating by date, etc. I've also posted some videos and some of the coins if anyone has interest to look and comment. Thank you for posting. Best to all.
Man, I found a 1982 D exactly as you identified it , but I placed it on the scale and sad surprise , It weight 2.50 gram, But Im on the hunting , I have a good positive spirit 👍
This is one of the best videos out with some good information I was able to actually find c1982 D small date with a D over D Over D over D.... next send off to NGC THANK FOR THE INFO 👍👍
Great video..!!!...I have both copper and zinc Large and Small date pennies....Except for the Small date COPPER 1982-D Penny....And my search continues for that beast!!!
Also, zinc is a harder metal and they were having problems getting the original dies to strike good clean numbers, even after turning up the die pressures, so they had to retool the dies and make the numbers a little bigger so the serifs and detail features would impress clearly. Not trying to sound like a know-it-all, just trying to help with some details!!!
This video Humbled a lot people😂😂Thank you Thank Thank Thank you Thank Thank Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you
People show me coins they have and think its , (no pun intended ) worth a mint. I too hate bursting bubbles, but i have to tell them bad news all the time ( they show me raw coins every time). On one occasion a friend had a coin that was worth looking at closer and turned out to be worth just a few bucks and that let him down. Heres the thing, when i tell people that they need to send it in to be graded and the basic cost for grading , well they feel like i kicked them in the gut. Also that getting a high grade makes a big difference and they dont grade coins just by the year. i try to give an insight to whats involved and encourage them not to give up that passion that made them start searching because you never know,,,,,, PS i have shared your videos but dont know if they watch them. Its frustrating and i know you know what i mean. Thanks for your time .
I have one of the scales needed that I bought a few years back and I bought an ANACS MS66 example of a 1982-D small date so I can have something in hand what the small date looks like. I cannot really tell the different just by looking at photos. I have 9 Buffalo Nickels, a V nickle, and a hand full of indian head cents I am going to take pictures of and run through Mintstate identifier to help with the AI tonight. Thanks for another video.
I'm searching for the information I read on this saying that Phili had converted on Oct.2, 1982, but my searches are not bringing up what I found before, and that annoys me, which is one reason why I copy/paste most everything I read, including source links, on into my own collective WordDocs for personal archiving, and I am building my own reference doc on this subject now. But on Wikipedia it does say “The last mostly-copper cents (95% copper metal composition) were produced by the Denver Mint on October 22, 1982. … A few pennies were struck by error in brass dated 1983 and are extremely rare.[36]” I'll find the specific info on Phili and so on eventually... I'm a history researcher, for the last 15 years I have been mostly focused on what most would class as the "boring parts of history" concerning economics, gov law and historic correctness. I spend a lot of my independent time reading over my collection of books from the 17 & 1800's into the early 1900's, so for me its about the specific details, I don't like talking in "round-about" terms!!! I sometime drive myself nuts being like this, obsessed with details, but that's just the way I am!! I'll make a science out of tying your shoe! I was like that even doing models and making my own building for my train set as a kid having to have everything done exact to detail, so don't mind me!!! Its just my nature!! I've been a coin collector since I was a kid too and have been getting back into this subject/topic and so this historic research on coins is just the kind of thing I get into!!! Take care! Later
I have a question for you. I think that there are denver minted 82s small date that are missing the mint mark due to mint error but actually came from denver but ppl assume automaticlly that its philly when they dont see the mark right where its supposed to be. Just a theory still working on proof. Do u have any research that would back that up?
@@joshgrider252 I have had my suspicions of that same thing too, because of the RPMs and OPMs that have been done on other coins, because they either missed it, it didn't come out like it should have or something. But yeah, I have wondered about that, but have not seen anything ever on that. One thought I have had on that is if you can get a number of coins of the same year and denomination and from the different mints and do a comparison to maybe establish a specific "characteristic" from one to the other, and then IF the missing mint mark coin you have actually exhibits the Denver strike characteristics over the Phili strike characteristics, THEN you may have a valid and provable claim to that effect. Maybe that idea will help you to determine if you really have what you think you might have! Best to you!
I was so excited when i found a D small date today. Turning on my scale, i was so amped, i think my head actually sprouted alil hair! Hit the scale, bam, 2.8, 2.9, then rested at 2.7g😭 I have a few small date 82's that weigh 3.0-3.1 but they arent from Denver. Man this game is nerve-wracking. Lol
I've only been doing this a few weeks, helping my uncle sort and sell part of his collection. If it wasn't for your help, I might have looked over the 1982 D small date Lincoln cent. I'm sending it to Heritage Auction to be sold. Thanks again Daniel. Looking forward to your next video.
I have a 1982 D small date penny that weighs 3.0 on my cheap kitchen scale that does weigh grams. What should I do next, just in case it's the real deal?
Part of the problem is all these videos saying "This coin is worth big bucks " but forget to mention they are graded coins. Maybe you should do a video dedicated to coin books that you think that people should have to help their knowledge of coins and have fun learning the history of coins.
I’m sorry but I have laughed about every 3 seconds watching this because I can sense your frustration with this topic . I guess the difference between true collectors and collectors is those who see $$$ and the ones who wouldn’t sell their 3$ nickel for 300$ because of sentimental reasons . I’ve never sold but I like your videos .
Any time I find a 1982, or '83, I set it aside. I never get excited about finding any valuable coin. I don't get excited even if I find something that might be valuable. It just doesn't happen very often, especially to me. I just got some change from my brother to go through. My guesstimate is probably $400+. It may take me awhile. Trying to finish other sets, also.
I have coin one cent Lincoln : 1. 1982 ( 3 coins ), 2. 1982 Large Date ( 13 coins ), 3. 1982 D Small Date ( 3 coin ), 4. 1982 D large Date ( 2 coins ), 5. 1983 ( 7 coins ), 6. 1983 D ( 8 coins ), Thanks
I'm picking up what your laying down , but I'd say close to 4 boxes in last month going thur , ive found very few , like no more than 3-4 1882 small dates zinc or copper , ton of LD & ton of copper / zinc a few SD. Possibly they've been pulled or just my boxes ?
Good video I've been saving on my 82 s + 83 is for a while now.. I've been putting them on the side to search later it's been 3 years now and I have a lot of them like 6 styrofoam cups full of them now is the Time to look at them through my stereoscop and weigh them.

Being new at perusing coins, I found your video to be perfect. That whole 1982/1983 penny thing is exhausting.
Thanks for giving it some clarity!
Like the Lincoln Cent videos you've done lately, thanks!
The best common sense explanation about this topic so far... Thank you!!!

Stamps have really gone in the tank. I have stamps over a hundred years old and I've used some of them for postage.

I have a 1982 D small date penny that weighs 3.0 on my cheap kitchen scale that does weigh grams. What should I do next, just in case it's the real deal?
Yelp I agree with you
Part of the problem is all these videos saying "This coin is worth big bucks " but forget to mention they are graded coins.

I'm picking up what your laying down , but I'd say close to 4 boxes in last month going thur , ive found very few , like no more than 3-4 1882 small dates zinc or copper , ton of LD & ton of copper / zinc a few SD. Possibly they've been pulled or just my boxes ?
Morning Daniel!!🍵 People need to buy one of those cheap 7 penny sets and salvage your last nerve!!😊
May I ask you who should I share my new fine on a coin?
You can always ask for help here coinauctionshelp.com/welcome-to-coinhelpu-community/
@@CoinHELPuHAVE YOU EVER LOOK AT LINCOLN TIE ?
@@ivyly1507 you don’t look at that. You look for what I show in my videos, and you must use my coinhelpu community to get help. Thanks.
What about a 1982 P (no mint mark) weighting @ 2.5g? I think I heard only 1982 D supposed to be on Bronze planchet.
You need to rewatch the video and don’t listen to anyone else.
U can also tell that the large date is closer to the rim. And the initials i think are slightly diff.
Good video I've been saving on my 82 s + 83 is for a while now.. I've been putting them on the side to search later it's been 3 years now and I have a lot of them like 6 styrofoam cups full of them now is the Time to look at them through my stereoscop and weigh them.
You don't need a scope, I never use one.
Don't forget about the double die 83 + 82 pnd
@@CoinHELPu ?what??
@@ronnovak7001 did you even watch my video? I didn't forget anything and you don't need a scope, unless you're eye sight is impaired, to see them.
I'm still confused lol. 1982 Large Date came in both 2.5 and 3.1 grams?
All of them came in both sides, except one, there wasn't supposed to be a 3.1 1982 D small date on a 3.1 but two have been found so far.
