I’ll never forget making a post on the Halo subreddit pointing out that 343 lied about battle pass content only being earned through gameplay. You could just pay to unlock the whole thing aka not through gameplay. It was quickly getting tons of upvotes and comments, people agreeing it was shady bullshit. But because this was at the height of Infinite cope and denial, the thread was locked and labeled as “misleading/misinformation”. I’m still salty about it lol
Yup when you don't get censored outright you have to confront the parallel reality they create for themselves. I still use it too as a stand-in for forums...
@@NKWittmann Reddit is good as long as you avoid the stuff where Reddit culture is strongest. It's great as a one-stop shop for all your hobbies' forums, but the Halo subreddit is just awful. Mostly because of one specific mod who is the biggest 343 dicksucker on the planet - he auto-removes any posts that link to videos like this that are negative about 343 Halo.
The fact 343 is named as a references to 343 guilty spark. A Character that acts like a friend, ally, and pretends to care about you. But in the end the twist is he actually doesn't really care about you, just has its own interests in mind and in the end tried to kill you. Ya that doesn't sound ironic with how 343 has been to halo and its fans. Not saying I called it years ago, but I always had a really weird feeling with the naming of the company.
People have been talking about that coincidence since they formed 343. But back then it was questioned why did they name their company after something that kill someone we loved (SGT. Johnson) And now 343 is killing something that we love....Halo. it was always a strange thing back then but when Halo 4 came out, it was damn near prophetic....
This is the first time that I know of where someone else has said that. I thought it was a huge red flag and just out of place away back in their origin when they were announced as "343.." blah blah. It's poetic in a fucky kinda way
Dude, they made 3 games, several books and an entire TV show based on a misinformed game of telephone by Frank O'Connor regarding the entirety of Halo's plot. They do not know who 343 is beyond "cute blue robot ball".
not a Halo fan here but an old gamer, i never understood the "bungie fan boy" thing. from what i gathered over the years, bungie/original developers of Halo. never had a bad game and always aimed to break ground with every new main series instalment. you know what i keep hearing, how every game post bungie is at best mediocre and at worst are broken and worst in terms of lore and story too. it's not about fanboyism it's about how the games are legitimately bad and the new developers not able to meet the previous studio standard.
I feel the same way. I've never understood the term "Bungie fanboy". Tf does that even mean? Me accepting that bungie made some kickass halo games and 343 hasn't makes me a fanboy?
Myth II had a bug that could wipe your entire hard drive if you uninstalled the game, so its not like Bungie hasn't stumbled before. The difference between Bungie and 343 is that Bungie had the integrity to recall all copies of Myth II, and had it not been for Microsoft's acquisition, it would've bankrupted the company.
It was funny when 343 after the layoffs went out and stated that they would still be working on making Halo games, and the reaction from the fans was not cheering, but an "Oh..."
I’m so glad you showed clips of mintblitz, yes he’s one of the best most creative halo players, but he’s an absolute shill of 343. Literally makes a video with exclamation marks trying to revive halo infinite saying “Look! 343 responded!” Or “343 finally listened! We are getting this!” And it’s like one bug that’s fixed or an armour colour unlocked…
He's not a creative Halo player. He purposefully boycotted, with others, to change the "SBMM" of Halo into this non-skill based formula, and requests them to continue to do so. Halo's SBMM in classic days was ungodly strict; If you were a 30, you couldn't match above or below 27 - 33. If you were a 50, you couldn't match outside of 40's - 50's, and that even includes in the unranked playlists. This is why multiple people had numerous accounts. In Halo Infinite, an onyx 2000, aka MintBlitz, can match a Silver 1 who has 13 games played total of Halo. Yet, this guy argues that it's still "too strict". Almost all of his clips are him getting it on nigelthornberry6969 who never played Halo before in their life; And this is directly because the Halo Community has soooo much leverage in in Halo Infinite's development and design. A large problem isn't that he "shills" for 343, it's that 343 shills for him and countless others. Both of which is a net negative; But it's simply that his "criticism" usually is him seeing his insecurity being pushed out and utilizing it as a method of saying "this needs fixed or added". Every video of his is "can't believe 343 broke this and did this" and 4 days later "look 343 finally fixed it!!", where it essentially breaks the video game for 99% of players because "his" community (of 2,000 people) believe that is "really" Halo. FYI: Almost all of his videos regarding "armor" have nothing to do with colors. it's all, 100%, due to "lore based affiliation of per-armor-piece customization across different strategically crafted uniquely designed cores"; all of which shouldn't even be in Halo Infinite's Multiplayer since Halo's multiplayer is not about armor or lore.
I will never understand how someone with that much spatial intelligence and ability to critically analyze and jailbreak game systems is such an uncritical, low IQ NPC in every other respect. Straight up bug brain. I feel like he doesn't have a soul, he's like a human computer.
“You just had to be there.” Hits hard 😢. I was and I cherish it. Feel so bad for the younger generation that only have this hellscape of micro transactions, unfinished buggy messes, awful storytelling, and evil corporate suits ruining franchises.
@@thesamejackalsniperthatkil117 I’m glad, isn’t there beauty in the simplicity of old games? I find it comforting and can spend hours playing old console games like N64, PS1, PS2, 360, etc.
@@thesamejackalsniperthatkil117 This. There would be so much less toxicity/ resentment out of the newer gen Halo fans if they realized this. They could build those memories the older fans had at any time by grabbing a used Xbox or 360 and running some all nighter co op, split screen slayer or even a LAN party with some snacks and beverages. And that is another reason why us "old heads" love the Bungie games bc you can do that at any time, without worrying about the servers shut down or an online player base moving on.

@@AncientTechnik They probably thought infinite would be like GTA V is for rockstar and be a cashcow for the next decade. Just shows you how out of touch the company was from reality.
1000% agree with your section on the community. They're the prime example of toxic positivity. A solid DECADE of 343 fuckups is not enough in their eyes, taking a GIANT of gaming and turning it into in irrelevant title that barely 3000 people play, is not enough to say that they should have the IP taken away from them. Zero members of 343 deserve to stay. It should be ripped away from every single one of them.
You either missed the part of the discussion where he blames the community for 343's fuckups, or didn't understand that he's claiming the community is in large part to blame for why 343 does the things they do. Nevertheless, I did not agree with his "take away halo from 343 and kill the franchise". As a 40-something year old, I don't want to see Halo die when Halo Infinite is the closest to Halo we've gotten since 2007. The problem is the community influence on the game from 2020 and onward has entirely turned this game into a clone of "other games", trying so hard to be 'something that is not halo" more than it is Halo. And the community continuously does the same tropes. "343 did it guys, they fixed it" "343 really screwed up, fire 343" "343 fixed it guys we did it" "why 343 is so out of touch with the community" It's the same cycle. They pretend that what they want is what "the players" want. When they get it, and people perceive it poorly, they shift the blame onto 343. And 343 has done this since 2010. They keep doing this. They stopped in 2018 with Greenskull being the last community creator they worked with...and then in 2020 - 2021 they started right back up again with the Forerunners. 343's major problem is they take this attributed "community" and they use "their ideas" to "better the game". It's equally like saying "We hire people that hate the game to improve it", as the feedback is to take people that distinctively look to "change the game for their better". And that's the problem with the community -- they're the same as hiring people that hate the game. Now don't just take my word for it. Halo CE, the strongest most versatile weapon is the Pistol. Halo 2 and Halo 3, the strongest and most versatile weapon is the BR. This "is" definitively Halo. This "is" the balance of Halo. The exact same people would and will argue that Halo's original trilogy sandbox is "imbalanced" and "should really favor this rather than that instead". Or claim that the games shouldn't be "one gun games", or my favorite: "But it's so boring to see and only play with one weapon". This "is" the community. And the large part of why 343 fails time, and time again, is this compromise they keep doing "with" the community.
I’m glad you mentioned how scummy the 343 employees were towards fans. I’ve never seen a developer hate it’s own audience more than 343 does with the amount of lying and gaslighting they did
I can't fathom how folks think they can run studios like this. It's one thing to be confident to your product and direction to the point of being a bit cocky, but doing what 343i, DICE and current-year Volition are doing? It just amplifies the backlash to bad decisions to nuclear levels. There is a good reason why big chunk of Saints Row and Battlefield fans are celebrating the latest games in the franchises flopping - and ain't 'toxic fans'.
Well some people did hire people that hate halo to work on halo I don't know why or what were they smoking back then ,witch would answers why they hate the fans.
They completely lie to and alienate their audience, and then wonder where the backlash is coming from. Literally all gamers want out of a game is what was promised on the tin, which appears to be something most Triple A companies are too incompetent to deliver on. In no other industry I can think of, do you pay full price for something, just to get it in parts over the course of years. Give corporate less weight in development, and release the thing when its finished, it isn't rocket science, jesus.

I'm glad this guy called out the shills in the Halotuber community. I remember feeling hopeful when there started to be vocal critics after Halo 5, among them Act Man, LNG, and Hidden Xperia. Act Man struck it huge and mostly branched out from Halo, but LNG and Hidden Xperia were compromised and it was clear as day when they were no longer their harsh Halo 5 selves with the lousy content we got for Infinite. At least Act Man had the decency to take the mask off, stop pulling his punches, and admit he was doing it early on because he was hoping the game would take off and recover Halo's reputation.

I feel like it is a constant problem with nearly every fandom at this point. The example I will always use is the game Outriders, I liked the game, BUT for 3 fucking days after the game came out you just couldn't play it AT ALL because it was online only. I couldn't even play it single player, but then I go on twitter or reddit and people are going "the devs are twing their best, pwease don't me meanies." I think it's religious minded people who have lived all their lives without a proper religion, so their inclination towards faith manifests itself in a fandom. Another thing we see recently popping up is how these companies blame their customers for their own failings. It's a very immature and narcissistic attitude. I think this is partly a result of a generation that grew up with social media and two working (ie. partly absent) parents. Just imagine how bad it's going to get when the TikTok generation enters the work force. Also, you could say that the Halo UA-camrs mistake being nice for being good, but I think it's more a case of them having a symbiotic relationship with 343i.
It has slowly and painfully dawned on me that the "Halo Fandom" now has become what the "Sonic Fandom" became. Just... hoping and coping and surviving off of scraps of nostalgia and rose-tinted goggles, slurping up whatever low-effort slurry is pumped out into their feeding troughs.
@@jaypostromboli-jpgamertv-457 I think one of the other advantages Sonic has is that even when things aren't looking good on the company side of things there is usually at least something fans can point to and say "hey, at least someone in the company is still passionate/has good ideas/truly cares." Just look at all the excitement around Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, or the IDW comics, or even the Sonic Boom cartoon. Sonic also has a thriving fan creation community which Sonic Team has been pretty openly supportive of. Halo doesn't really have anything on the same level right now.
C'mon that's unfair, Sonic fans weren't anywhere near this delusional when Forces released, everyone shat on that fucking game, and at least while Sega's output might be mostly underwhelming there's a whole section of the fandom making interesting fan games rather than crying about the state of the franchise and drown in copium gaslighting people into believing that the next game is the one, Sonic is back.
You are absolutely right. After Adventure 2, and ESPECIALLY after the 06 disaster, every Sonic game existed to chase trends and poorly replicate a surface-level misconception of Sonic's original game design, to the point where no one even knows what Sonic was about when it was conceived. Even if the production value was marginally adequate, it doesn't change the fact that Sonic hasn't really been Sonic for years. It's just a shitty imitation. A skinwalker.
You really don't see how bad the 343 cult is until you take a break from Halo for other, better games. But the nice thing is with Infinite losing so much of us, more people have opened their eyes. I'm just glad you're a rare UA-camr who will say what everyone else is thinking. Sadly the only primary Halotuber to pull off the mask so far was Act Man, and that's probably only because he can afford to burn the bridge having branched out years ago.
Act Man started his channel bashing Halo 4 and 5 brutally. He’s done this since the beginning. He did a livestream where he played through 5’s campaign again for the first time since the game came out, and he confirmed it was still trash.
Bruh what. Like half the UA-camrs involved in halo have bashed it since 4. There’s channels who actually seemed to like the games and that’s their prerogative but pretending no one does this is wild lmao

It's honestly worse than the recent Tarkov drama and how those content creators have gone about it. And that has to do with a vid exposing the extent of cheaters in the game.
As if part 1 wasn't savage enough. This is truly the definitive video on 343 and their vile influence on this franchise (alongside Sabertooth's video on how 343 annihilated the beautiful story of Halo). Fantastic work, my man; you managed to articulate my thoughts and feelings on this subject with great efficiency.
Yeah idk why they retconned that. I learned about the forerunner shit a month or so ago (im a long time halo fan but didn’t/want old enough to fully understand the lore till I was older I.e when 343 was fully steering the ship) so when I found out the forerunners were actually meant to be humans and not some other species I was like :/, that sounds so much more interesting then having them be this completely different species that had it out for humanity but also gave us access to all their shit… and the mantle of responsibility stuff
@drifter402 they didn't have complete animation tools, so all the dropships and some of the banshees are recordings of the developers piloting them around, which they had to redo every time the physics or maps changed. The tools they have now are more capable than ever, yet despite having 750 employees compared to the 110 Bungie had on Halo 3, they fail to get close.
That entire ending chapter, I feel like for us Halo Veterans, felt like, closure, in a way. The music, the old maps, the flashbacks... Yeah, you just had to be there.
Still one of the most broken franchise Reddits for sure. Was on a decent thread of people frustrated that mcc wasn’t being updated anymore… the weird fanboys / company shills came in to blame the fans for that (you guys should’ve supported them wanting to add microtransactions), then they shut it down completely.
All because of Frank O Conner, sure you can say there were other people at Bungie that had the same ideas as frank o Conner but frank was the most vocal and was the one that ended up in charge at the end of the day and ended up ruining the forerunners by making them a separate species and hiring a author to write that awful forerunner trilogy novel.
@@ano_nym YEAH I know about that, that is such a dumb retcon by him, like he ruined the whole canon by making forerunners and humanity separate species but then turns out 343 guilty spark is a caveman
I don't think 343 should be fired. I don't think they're even doing a bad job. The studio was set up for one thing and one thing only; Destroy Halo while making as much money as possible. They're honestly nailing it out of the park. Hell, they're so good that they save on electricity and server rent by making 98% of the people who purchase their game stop playing it. That's the kind of self destructive nonsense that Microsoft paid for when Bungie left.
And before more comments flood in here, don't even think about dragging my boi Acting Male through the mud. I've seen people here saying he is a 343 fanboy but I'm gonna need some sources on that one, bubs. I've been watching his videos for a few years now and I have not seen him blindly praise 343 (and no, feeling excited and hopeful about Infinite maybe learning from 4/5's mistakes for the initial launch is not blind praise, it's called having a heart and feeling joyful about a past favorite media/franchise returning, and being gobsmacked by the possibilities like everyone reading this did at least once did as a child, unless you've been a walking tragedy from the start I guess), and the praise I see him giving to Halo is mostly, if not entirely, directed at Bungie's original entries. Call out hypocrisy for sure though, it's best to shine light on deceit when it benefits us all to see market conditions improve. No matter who's doing it. And if you have good-faith criticism for the acting guy I'm confident he'd take it in good stride as he has in the past.

I am completely open to a "it was all a dream" retcon where a new studio restarts from where Halo 3 left off and Master Chief gets woken up by the banished and has to contact the UNSC. Now you have the banished freshly created from the disbanded covenant and can build them up properly, cortona still around, and cool stories centered around the swords of sanghelios, the banished, and the UNSC.
I'd just redo Halo 4, honestly. The Banished (who are extremely nerfed and not the Covenant 2.0) are trying to get into Requiem, Chief awakens the Didact, the Didact is a human and not Voldermort, so they team up against the Banished. Didact learns about the war with the Covenant and becomes a radicalized space racist and Chief has to stop him from waging a war that's already over. Oh, and cut out all the nonsense with Cortana, fucking dreadful.
@@nagger8216Personally, I am largely against keeping Sierra 117 on life support forever. Yeah, he is a fun character, but he doesn't need to fight every war for the rest of time. The end of Halo 3 leaves the UNSC on its last legs with a ravaged Earth (and maybe a couple scattered Human colonies that slipped under the Covenant radar) roughly allied with the Elite faction in the Covenant Civil War and Master Chief permanently MIA on a floating hulk in the middle of nowhere. If we must have a sequel, the core conflict is already right there on Earth's doorstep. The humans are fighting on the likely much weaker side of a Covvie civil war. This is all that VERY interesting stuff that 343 just said "Yeah let's just skip all this and go right to Humanity being the chads with total dominance of the galaxy a half-decade later" when they came out with Halo 4. The next trilogy in the chronology of Halo's story should have been the campaign of the UNSC to coup the Prophets and install the Elites as strong, honorable allies of Humanity, and maybe an investigation of Forerunner artifacts to make sure The Flood are not an active issue on some other ancient human installation. This could eventually lead into a new confrontation with either The Flood being released from another failing forerunner installation, Covenant separatists taking advantage of the situation to surge into the forefront as the Banished, or maybe an insane runaway Forerunner AI like Guilty Spark with twice the megalomania and thrice the insanity. There are so many interesting ideas that could be explored in that war and so many excuses to have conflicts with The Flood, Forerunner constructs, and any Covenant species (with brand new creations or old classics for each).
Your statement about letting games go on hiatus so people can appreciate it more is so true. It’s like the new DBZ tenkaichi that was just announced. Last game came 16 years ago and people are still playing it modding the old one.
For me it's ODST Firefight. Disclaimer but I was a kid during Halo's golden years and only got to play the games just as the golden years were ending. But I started with the trilogy instead of Reach because all I knew was "I should play them in order to understand what happens." And while I had a blast with all the Halo games until 4, I tended to like ODST the least because it just felt so hard for a kid who wanted to mindlessly shoot aliens. Only now as an adult who regularly plays firefight online and beat all the maps on legendary did I realize just how deep and well thought out its sandbox and the set structure are. Strictly talking PVE, I'd argue ODST is a refinement of Halo 3's combat loop, not just a mod pack.
Exactly why I don't think it's "gatekeeping" to rip on the loud opinions of 343 fanatics who just binged the entire Halo catalogue in the last three years. Back in the day we had to appreciate and reflect on every aspect of each title for years until a new one came out. There wasn't any of this "play through MCC once with the intent to argue Halo 4 is the best" garbage.
@@junioraltamontent.7582 I binged the entire series a few years ago as well but I instantly saw the massive drop in quality of Halo 4, and the way Infinite was way better than 5 and still significantly inferior to the Bungie games
Lol I've been saying this shit in the Halo forums even before launch. But Noooooooo. Everyone was putting me down as a nut and to "trust 343" lmfao jokes on y'all
I wouldn't really call Guilty Spark a villain. He is an antagonizing force at the end of CE and 3 but he's just doing his job, that being to maintain and protect installation 07 and keep the Flood contained. He's just doing his job. Thats like saying the cops in GTA are villains. And at least Guilty Spark is competent and even likable to a degree.
Every point you made I agree with, but the UA-camr/new Halo community bit had to be the best part. It's absolutely shocking how people can pardon this company. As an old Halo fan who bought an xbox just for the CE multiplayer experience way back, I love your work man. Thanks for vocalizing our frustrations so well. I wish these videos and your channel the best
Never forget the abomination that was MCC. 343i advertised it as the greatest thing ever to happen to Halo, only to utterly lie about the game not working AT ALL at launch (even lied to MLG pros during the summer tournament that they would fix all of its problems before it launched), knowingly release it completely broken and unplayable, lied about fixing it, put out a few updates, then swept it under the rug immediately after to save face for Halo 5. 343i took their proud legacy of one of the most beloved game franchises of all time and absolutely destroyed it completely.
Seeing the in game armors side to side is a shockingly stark comparison. I think it truly highlights how important aesthetic and artistic intentionality are. Better tech and graphical "upper limit" are NOT a crutch that will get you to the top. They are tools, not the art. Then again... games are just entertainment aren't they? It's older and looks better... the artists used mood, setting, and style to add cohesion to the overall work... God, just a little visor glow would work wonders for infinite
finally someone calls out 343 and isn't afraid to call out the community. especially with other communities who drag the companies for the same shit or even less. great video.
It's fucking crazy how much of a Stockholm syndrome this community specifically has developed, I really can't think of any other fandom with such a loud delusional minority on constant copium and why it happened to be Halo, not even fans of shit like Ubisoft games have such low standards.
Offline custom games have been COMPLETELY BROKEN since the winter update. I used to be able to play against bots offline. Now trying to launch custom games offline crashes it every time
Those closing shots at the end were haunting. Imagining the hundreds if not thousands of interactions I’ve had in those sections of the maps while also knowing that those same interactions can never happen again - gives me chills and makes the eyes all watery.
"This Garbage Community" is imo the best part of this video. This is atually the biggest issue with Halo and it is actually deep psychology, they are subconsciously aware of how bad things are HOWEVER they are also equally aware to how bad they feel about themselves. This combined with the denial and cope from Halo actually being dead results in a emotional kneejerk reaction. So when you attack ANY mediocrity you also attack EVERY mediocrity. Mediocre people will feel attacked even if they have nothing to do with the subject. It is such a bizarre and pathetic behavior once you see it and it is everywhere today.
5:15 yes they do! For some bizarre reason people still demand sprint to be part of Halo despite it making the gameplay worse, Bungie even tested it with 2 and 3 if I remember correctly but never kept it because it broke the gameplay loop. No idea why this is the one thing people defend to the death.
Sprint has always been the Litmus Test for me when it comes to Halo games; if it has sprint, it's gonna be a bad Halo game. The first thing I thought when watching the E3 gameplay reveal of Infinite was 'oh, a clean artstyle, that's good', only to be immediately turned off when he started sprinting towards that warthog. @TheCrazeturk is spot on when it comes to the sprint debate in the Halo community, there's literally no reason for sprint to be in a Halo game. People have argued against this feature for years and there's never been a good argument from the pro-sprint crowd. I genuinely believe they're just young people who have never played an FPS without a sprint mechanic.
@@gaiusmarius7562 it's either 'why would a Spartan not be able to sprint' or 'the games have to evolve somehow', both of which are ridiculous arguments every time they're brought up
@@lesbianduck7862 Yes, but they're not ridiculous arguments, because they can't even be called arguments. They're just empty remarks that don't argue the subject matter; how does the sprint mechanic impact the gameplay of Halo. They just want it there because it's the industry standard, the norm. You don't need this mechanic for your game to be successful, just look at all the other successful FPS franchises out there that don't have sprint; Counter-Strike, DOOM, Left 4 Dead, Wolfenstein. And on the whole 'the games have to evolve somehow' remarks they keep making; Counter-Strike is a 23 year old franchise that has barely changed, at all, and it's among the most popular FPS games out there. 343i and these new fans killed the Halo franchise and Microsoft let it happen.
@@gaiusmarius7562 couldn't agree more, all the proof you need to prove sprint and other 'modern innovations' have been a detriment to Halo is to just look at how the series has plummeted in popularity ever since Halo 4 basically became call of duty
I still find the funniest thing about 343 fans that they still debate that Forruners weren't humans in Bungie lore because of just a few terminals which are horribly written and contradict other terminals.
There not real fans, People are still playing the old halo campaigns after 10 years of there original launch. Do you think that in 10 years these 343 fans will still be playing halo 4, 5 or infinite?
Surprised you didn’t talk about how the cult started a trend that halo 3 was never good (and it was a massive trend) and said it died as fast as halo 4 in the community part. And the dude who started it showed cropped charts and fake some stuff, and when he got caught he straight up went in full attack mode and double down, until he got a lot of push back he said “I was only trolling guys!” But still is salty and defend infinite like crazy and saying it’s better than original trilogy
@@BlkPhoenix1111 it is lmao Just didn’t wanna name drop him because I want him to stay as irrelevant as possible but he kinda has a foot hold in the 343 halo community. Surprised a few big halo UA-camrs even made a video to knowledge him at all
@Dman how is act man a shill when his entire channel was built on shitting on 343, and he's even said he's completely done with infinite because of its poor state
I discovered your channel when your videos critiquing Halo 4 popped up in my recommended. Prior to that video I already didn’t really like Halo 4 (and 343 as a whole) for a lot of reasons but since then, you’ve gone above and beyond proving to everyone just how much better we deserve than them. Even more so, how much better Halo deserves than them. Thank you for being so thorough, honest, thoughtful, and loving with how you talk about Halo. People seem to mistake videos like these for hate, when in reality it couldn’t be more different. Stay safe and can’t wait to see what else you do
This channel is a breath of fresh air. You have been utterly ruthless towards 343, and their apologists/shills in both this part, and the previous one, and I thank you for it. I feel like there has been a level of "toxic positivity" in the community directed towards 343 in the past decade. Not enough people are willing to be blunt, direct, or even honest about the company. I can't say I enjoyed the machinima style headbobbing of your spartan model, but that's obviously a very minor nitpick. Liked, and subbed Look forward to seeing more from you
Praise to the man who calls out little pathetic groups of fans who just consume and move on to next product. Shits everywhere not just games. Shows and movies too.
"You just had to be there." A sad, but true reality of the situation. I, and many others may never experience that kind of amazing community and gameplay at its peak, but at the same time, I had my own experiences, so I can't be too sad about it. Sometimes it's just better to let the past go, both the good and the bad of it. Watched both this and your Halo 4 videos. All of them were really well thought out and amazing to listen to! I really hope you make more content like it in the future 💚
Your bluntness feels like a breath of fresh air in a sewer, the light at the end of long dark tunnel. I stopped supporting Halo as a franchise after the horror that was Halo 4. But the nostalgia of the heydays of before 343 still held me. Each time a "major" information was released in public by 343, I held my breath and hoped things would start to shift, that maybe I could get back with my online friends and enjoy things at least half as well as we did back in 2009. Each game release, each teaser, each announcement, I was there to watch with a fever, some form of deluded hope. Each lie, each deception, each failure, felt like a betrayal of the child that was still in me, the child who enjoyed that game. Even though I wasn't deluded enough to buy anything after Halo 4, even though I did not even touch Infinite once although it was free... I still couldn't bear that slow, excruciating humiliation. I watched so much content about Halo, so many critics, so many reviews, attended and participated in so many debates about the changes it underwent under 343. I couldn't count the hours I sank in those coping mechanisms. That was until I saw these two rants of yours, and when I saw Staten, French and O'Connor leave for good. Staten even left Microsoft altogether. You made me accept it, I now have accepted the final loss of this toy I cherished as a kid and teenager. It took me long enough, made me shed a tear or two, but now I can move on. Thank you.
The compilation of you calling out the Halo UA-camr community defending 343 was the realest thing I have seen in so long. You were spot on. People are just getting their dose of Hopium whilst getting beaten battered, money ripped out of their wallets but still giving it a pass. It was about time someone called them out.
I don’t think it’s gotten any better either, I feel like most of those UA-camrs now are just pretty fake with their opinion on any other topic they talk about. Chasing trends and trying to be non-divisive person so they can retain an audience (act man and chris ray gun). They used to be a pilers now they feel oddly corporate.
I watched this as a patron and good timing on the public release with season 3 dropping and the copeium is in full swing. It's interesting the in game store works flawlessly but the rest of game is a buggy broken mess. It pisses me off that these try hard MLG clans get their own fucking colours but us plebs just have to pick out with what we got in the storefront. I still don't get how the MP is now considered canon and it's super serious with its story all the while they have fractured armour cores that are non canon. So we can't goofy gamemodes without it being "lore accurate". So no infection type game mode for another 6 months and who the fuck knows when grifball will come back since we still don't have assault game mode. I'm so glad you call out the so called halo community as well as 343i as an incompetent company and should be handed to ID Software. I mention your video to halo content creators like Xperia, mintblits, etc and flat out ignore it. I guess they don't want to bad mouth 343i but are fine when 343i get to shit talk on fans when they bring up legit bugs and broken features. I really resonated with your closing statement. I remember endless hours I would play in halo 3 and reach, I was there and as I much want to yarn for those days to come back. I just want halo to be laid to rest.
@@nonsonomoltobravoconinomi1531 People got too focused on the business part that they forgot that business only exists to sell what matters: the product. Haven't watched the video but I want to remind everyone who defended 343 on the multiplayer release. While you jumped up and down claiming we should not complain and let 343 have a break they spent the weekend DELETING ANY POST ON REDDIT OR FORUMS THAT COUNTERED WHAT WAS RELEASED. Trying to claim "poor me" while covering it up! Trash company fire them!
343 is one of the worst game developers the industry has to offer. They took a cash cow, industry defining franchise with an untarnishable foundation and turned it into an irrelevant mess, with each iteration damaging the IP more and more.

I was 13 when the first Halo came out, and 1-3 was such a massive part of my life, so I really wanted Infinite to be good. I remember me and my cousin hyping ourselves up, thinking we were going to be able to relive some of our moments growing up. Even after the open beta we had high hopes. And when it did finally come out I put SO many hours into it. And that was when the game was bare bones. I burnt myself out so quickly, that I was done well before season 2. The lack of customization and how it was implemented was legitimately the nail in the coffin for me personally. This truly was the potential to bring in a new audience along with the old, and bring halo back to the top of pop culture and gaming in general. And I am one of the weird ones because I actually really had fun the time I did play until every match seemed like a copy and paste of the last one. I still check the subreddit and UA-cam videos hoping to see something that sparks my interest to download the updates and let it consume more of my life. And even though they have added forge, among other things, it just seems like nothing is exciting enough to justify it. I refuse to spend more money just to get certain colors or designs, the battle pass for season 1 had a lot to be desired, and the xp system was abysmal and head-scratching. I really thought I was just getting old, and sure that's probably some of it, but it's not just that. All the titles I used to play growing up are now passionless shells of themselves. They lack any charm or unique identity. That goes for Madden, 2K, COD, and Battlefield, and I could easily go on. The state of gaming, microtransactions, and drip-feeding so much content is such a letdown. When I was playing the og MW2 on my xbox 360 as a teenager, I remember thinking I can't wait to see how these games would be 10+ from then, thinking it would be beyond amazing at levels my brain couldn't comprehend. And in reality, the graphics have gotten amazingly better while everything else has gotten stale and predictable. It just sucks that with all the talent out there, and the capabilities of these consoles and PCs and we are getting the most lackluster, low effort, made to squeeze any last penny from the player base titles. It really is frustrating. Enough of my rambling novel. Now I will start the video. I randomly came across pt 1 a week or so ago and ended up binging a lot of your videos. So I am excited and expect nothing less from this one. I hope anyone who happens to read this rambling mess has a wonderful and positive day/night!
I am just the same, after seeing Infinite's gameplay trailers it really sparked my interest and willing to give 343 a chance since it looked familiar to Bungie's Halo. For the first 6 months, I had genuine fun with it, it at least scratched my itch for a new Halo that wasn't 4 or 5's gameplay and artstyle. 6 months later of the same contents, I realize I've dosed myself with so much copium, I really wanted to believe this game will get better and all the problems will be fixed, but it only melted away all my hopes and enjoyment for this game.
Modern gaming is shocking. I jumped ship when I was in college in 2012 ish when Halo 4 came out. Halo was my life, and one of the few video games I played outside of things like FIFA or NHL, but you are so right about games being completely soulless. Capitalism has squeezed the identity and soul out of gaming. It’s purely to dupe and rip off us gamers and cash in on our nostalgia, and for the younger people, they want their money via micro transactions. I am 30, and was 9 when CE came out. Man those were the days for gaming!
You said it, the industry moved on and there are no games I've been eager to play for ages now. You're right, at the time gaming was all about the future and everything was new, exciting, pushing boundaries. Now we obly look backwards and even the best games out there evoke nostalgia... of a time when games were good, fun and didn't milk you.
@@OfficeVigilante Exactly. I have slowly but surely come to the conclusion that the same thing that goes for games, also goes for movies and TV shows. If you replace the writers, and producers then you are getting a totally different game. It may be the same charectors, the same environments, and same abilities. But the nuance in what makes a good game from a dull one is the charm. And that charm is very individual, so its almost impossible for anyone else, no matter intent to talent, to mimick that charm. I personally had no issue with the game play in this Halo. I put more hours into the first season then I do most other games that I play. But sort of like what you were saying, it started to feel empty. Devoid of all passion. And the fact that they made they way you custom your character the way they did just shows either a lack of care, or extreme levels of being oblivious. lol If it had far more customization options, making the XP more relevant to unlock cool armor items, didn't take so long for Forge, and had more maps/game modes and launch, there is a high chance I would still be playing it today. Madden and 2K were disappointing copy and paste nonsense, COD is terrible, and the newest Battlefield may be any worse. So other than Rimworld and some random indie games, I don't really have one consuming a lot of my time or attention. So this Halo is just another example of why the gaming industry as a whole is terrible. And I get much more enjoyment playing indie games than any of these big franchises. But as long as people willingly choose to spend money on games and "bundles", there is no reason for them to change. A happy fanbase isn't their motive, profits are.
Stop. Paying. 343. Haven't done anything of value since Reach, and that was basically just pre made minus engine, concept, world, characters, etc were already set up. Everything original they have offered isn't worth what they're charging. You just like John Halo, but sometimes dead is better. Leave it alone, don't bury it in the Pet Semetary. Edit: that feeling when spineless shills sound like pre pubescent dweebs. Feels good to be post pubescent and also not a mindless consumer.
THANK you for that section on the community. Modern Halo isn't the only one that suffers from fake positivity fans who can't accept any strong negativity. It's definitely the most toxic type of fan; hate is just as much a part of life as love, so handle it well
As a life long Trekkie, that part was painfully relatable. I've been part of the Trek fandom that's been critical of every Trek series since Enterprise for betraying Roddenberry's original vision for Trek and abandoning fans who have supported Trek for literally over half a century only to chase a "broader audience" that never existed, or if it does, will never, ever love the franchise with nearly as much passion, dedication or investment as the older fans that are being tossed aside like yesterday's garbage. So yea, seeing the exact same thing happen to the Halo community with 343 at the helm is just as distressing and depressing. And I wholeheartedly agree with you and Andy that being a fan of a franchise or IP often means having to be critical and saying "This isn't good, please do better," but it's not hate or "toxicity" that makes superfans say that, it's their love of the franchise and deep desire to help it be the absolute best it can be. For those of us who have to make such criticisms, it hurts us deeply to have to say them, especially to people we respect and about franchises we adore.
@@bldontmatter5319 lots of franchises are doing this, and are absolutely puzzled that the merchandise fail. Battlefield, for example, lost a LOT of players when DICE went COD-angled. Star Wars is probably the best example - no one wants Rey Palpatine, no one wants Snoke or Kylo Ren or Jake Skywalker, and yet, everything Disney is doing is pushing the franchise towards the Sequels.
@@bldontmatter5319 It's not art, it's a vehicle for political messaging to these people. most common occurrence is any variation on white man bad, black lady strong. You're 100% right that these things are not made for us. They're made to flip us off.
I’m not at all the first person to say this but when you commented that Halo 4 & 5 maps felt “made by committee” I think that is essentially what happened. They consulted esports jabronies to help bury the franchise some more.
This is one of the most cathartic videos for a long time Halo fan. I gave up after Halo 4. I knew 343 weren't going to revive the franchise, it was headed for a cliff and I decided to jump off early. My Halo games will always be the classics that Bungie crafted. Even the MCC is just a hollow imitation to me.
I'm an old Halo fan but never really engaged much with the community. I wanted to see for myself just how bad it is after watching your videos, and man, the Halo subreddits are nothing but an echo chamber for 343 fanboys. I guess it makes sense, nobody else participates because nobody else cares about Halo with the state that it's in. Your Halo 4 and Infinite videos were posted there, and the reception was pretty negative, to say the least - and it was pretty obvious that none of them watched it. I also looked at threads on 343 itself, and it was mind boggling seeing them all defend a money grubbing corporation with religious fervor. There really is nothing to go back to except the old games.
I don't know why 343 has such an aversion to putting the plasma rifle in any of their games. And ya the bulldog is just a weak, boring shotgun without any personality.
The "you're not a true fan unless you eat their shit" type of fan is a weird tribal thing that is part of all long lived fandoms right now. Star wars started it.
I'd argue it was going on with Sonic the Hedgehog for WAY longer. That "fandom" is SUPREMELY fcked. It's weirdly fitting, though. Sonic is kinda similar to Halo. Both were a console mascot series with a Castle in the Sky treasure island type story, in a funny way. Sonic with its literal floating islands, and Halo with its deep space ringworlds. It's a loose connection, but it's there. Then both got their identities scrambled beyond recognition by scummy corporate meddling, and normie communities started blindly consuming their paste.
I think "fandoms" in general are a bit of a fucked concept now, as they have become seen as marks by corporate suits looking to make a low effort buck. Perfect targets for destructive short term business models.
343 in reality is what the Flood was in Halo. They took the living breathing soul of Halo and turned it into a disheveled, rotten husk of it's former self with a rocket launcher. Truly an ironic tragedy.
You've been spot on. I personally never ever thought that simply lack of content, or forge, or coop campaign, or the expensive shop were what was killing the player base. Infinite suffers from the same core issues that 4 and 5 suffered from - enhanced mobility, a boring illogical or try-hard story, a Chief who didn't act like the Chief, shitty explosive effects, an overall uninspiring soundtrack, dull maps, minimal social features like lobby chat. Basically almost all the features which make a Halo game great, Infinite does not have. What's funny is, the good features in Infinite are just features 343 removed from the Bungie Halos - equipment, Chief's armour design, removing some enhanced mobility, a Halo ring focused story, etc. And I enjoyed playing Infinite when it first came out. I wasn't simply a hater. I got heavily into it, gave it and it's changes and issues a chance, completed the first Battle Pass.
100% agree. You've put to words basically everything I've felt and why I've felt so disappointed and unfulfilled. 343i needs to be fired. That last bit was an emotional gut punch. I was a kid growing up with Halo as my first video games and I don't think the glasses can be tinted any rosier. On a side note: can you imagine ID's take on the flood?
I used to be, like many others, an obsessed superfan. Halo was my first love. 4 had some things I liked, but 5 was so bad I returned my Xbone. Despite allowing a glimmer of hope after the Infinite trailers, I let Infinite pass from my mind. "I'll play it eventually", I thought - the first Halo since CE I hadn't gotten on release. 5 burned me that badly, but the news coming out of Infinite wasn't looking positive; no co-op especially. Since then, everything I learned about Infinite made me want to play it less, and after having the story spoiled I can firmly say I never want to play it. I let it pass from my mind, then. But I saw this video on my feed and thought "Hey, why not? Might be funny to learn what went wrong in detail". I didn't expect an ending that'd make me CRY.
Can never trust the goodwill of a game company that is literally named after an in-game antagonist that backstabs you so frequently you'll only expect it again. That's all I'll say about this company. When I heard 343 is still gonna be there making content for Halo, even after all these massive layoffs that should be crippling for anyone else, I was honestly depressed.
Halo tubers use that H3 ending song all the time and it gets me every time. I think truly for the generations of Halo fans who didn't experience what you'd consider the glory days, me partially included since I didn't really get into the franchise until about 2016, seeing all the experiences of Halo's heyday that have been relayed to me by those who were there just created a feeling of having missed out, but also there was a unique pleasure in that, in turning the ending pages of a Halo novel and seeing all the advertisements for bigger and better things just upcoming, for watching UA-cam videos or talking to friends who would tell me about all the good times of 2009, when I'd known nothing about Halo at all and only played Vsmile and leapfrog games. Having been very immersed in the series though, it's clear the very specific feelings it evokes, that no other game or world does. That's very valuable to me, but to the outsider who just doesn't "get" Halo, there's probably many other great experiences he has that I never will. "You just had to be there" indeed. There's more fish in the sea than Halo, and that is all too clear now that it's essentially a Legacy franchise. Not one where people are actively hyped for it, but a finished piece of art and history that we can look back at to evaluate and enjoy, like Firefly, or Jericho, or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or (ignoring Amazon) Lord of the Rings. Love it or hate it, wish it's untapped potential could have been realized or just wished it ended at 3, that's what it is, and Halo fans until recently probably had a hard time picturing that. It's not hard though when you hate everything being put out for the last 11 years. I for one, didn't. There was actually a lot I appreciated in 343's time, which I won't get into here. Even though going back and playing through the MCC it was clear to me how much worse Halo 4 was than the classics, and me being a much bigger fan of those, there's still something there, an artistic direction in 4 and other elements of the 343 era that I understand, I latched onto and is now nostalgic for me as much as Bungie's era, but in a very different way. 343 however forgot everything they ever did right and kept repeating everything they ever did wrong. I realized I am a bit of a disenfranchised 343 fan. I am the Classical Liberal Republican of Halo. And I have no idea if Halo will ever get a new game, nor do I care. At this point, the only Halo I'm invested in is my own interpretation. That said, when a video like this stirs up my nostalgia, old cares and frustrations, I must thank you. Life gets confusing with age and the feeling Halo gave me is easily forgotten with time. I think for most people it's even more forgotten than for me.. When I listened to the first part of this video, while at work with my brother, I told him "ah, it feels like old times again, listening to people complain about Halo." Good videos 👍
I love halo infinite. Not because of the gameplay but because it was a huge eye opener for tons of people who got indoctrinated by those 343 reapers. Also, your speech at the end..... man I wish I was there then. I never played the halo games during their heyday, but I'm glad I've played this franchise regardless. I cherish all the memories I've made playing the bungie campaigns, both solo or co op with my younger brother, during an age of lame open worlds and mtx... Those that are on the same boat as I am, welcome aboard.

Hilariously or indirectly they were trying to tell us something from the beginning?
🤔
People have been talking about that coincidence since they formed 343. But back then it was questioned why did they name their company after something that kill someone we loved (SGT. Johnson)
And now 343 is killing something that we love....Halo. it was always a strange thing back then but when Halo 4 came out, it was damn near prophetic....
Imagine if Activision and Treyarch abandoned Call of Duty, but then Microsoft creates the 'Shadow Company' game studio to take over.
Toxic positivity is a term I discovered thanks to the so-called Halo influencers.
not a Halo fan here but an old gamer, i never understood the "bungie fan boy" thing. from what i gathered over the years, bungie/original developers of Halo. never had a bad game and always aimed to break ground with every new main series instalment. you know what i keep hearing, how every game post bungie is at best mediocre and at worst are broken and worst in terms of lore and story too. it's not about fanboyism it's about how the games are legitimately bad and the new developers not able to meet the previous studio standard.
Its just cope projection from the 343 shills.

I feel like he doesn't have a soul, he's like a human computer.

its called infinite because thats how disappointing it is
1000% agree with your section on the community.
"343 did it guys, they fixed it"
"343 really screwed up, fire 343"
"343 fixed it guys we did it"
"why 343 is so out of touch with the community"
It's the same cycle.
I’ve never seen a developer hate it’s own audience more than 343 does with the amount of lying and gaslighting they did
Never forget "Moochers of Reach"

You should have noted that 343 managed to do a modern day crucification of a bungie era dev by making him do the apology tour instead of the main heads who were responsible in the first place. No wonder Joe left as soon as the window opened by a inch.
@@thedivide9559 I mean I was never really a big Halo player even tho I played my Xbox all the time I played some of them, but it shouldn't be a surprise that Halo is not good anymore since bungie is not making it any more.
Now you could say well call of duty is still made by the same developers and battlefield is still made by the same developers and they been trash for years now
That segment on the community had to be said. This game is a fucking joke, 343 are stupid and/or malicious, and the people still propagating apologia for either deserve ridicule. As much as I like some of them.
Loved how critical you were. Someone needed to say everything you brought up. The halo UA-cam community is just as sad the state of the franchise.
The mostly rage bait halo youtube community is somehow positive towards videos?
@lShadow426l I won't sit here and pretend rage bait doesn't happen, but the fact that Halo fans flock toward negative and critical content from non-Halo youtubers is emblematic of the quality of the franchise and it's community.
Basically, lots of Halo fans are finding community having discussions about the things they dislike about the newer titles, meanwhile dedicated Halo youtubers, people like MintBlitz, are stuck making content for a game he literally can't play half the time (Look up his matchmaking issues, if you're unaware. The game is actually unplayable in Australia at times).
Will never forget the days of coming home from school and playing halo reach customs. Man those were the days
I still remember having a 343 shill say that the coating system was fine because, and I quote, “They gave you blue for free a few months after launch, what’s the big deal?” I think that about sums up the mindset of 343 fans, they did one small thing that doesn’t actually solve any problems, yet get praise for it as if they’re the shining bastions of game design.
Grinding for the color blue is not free. Those that can't handle the grind end up buying the shit anyway.
How old are you 3? Quit your crying ! Stop playing !
I had 343 shill try and tell me that humanity and forerunners being the same species was a bad idea and then they said "what does same species even mean" and I called him an average 343 fan.
Sounds like they just wanted Angry Joe off their back by giving blue out for free. lol
The armor system is fantastic? What are you mad about? You really don't like the current game because you couldn't play dress up with your avatar at launch? At this point Infinite has the best armor system out of all the Halo's and they are only going to keep expanding it. But yeah, stay mad about it... 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤡

@D R The problem with H2+ is that hitreg completely falls apart the higher your ping is. A working netcode should not do that, it higher ping should only mean more delay.
The Gravemind could hold 343 fans with it's tentacles , pull out a copy of Halo Infinite and say "now this is a monument to all of your sins!"...
funniest part: 343 fans likely wouldn't know what a Gravemind is, they have never seen the Flood.

LOL the cutscene with Vadum and Vadam on Halo 3.
the bit about the halo youtuber community is fucking spot on.
You are the ONLY one who see’s that the issue isn’t the games 343 made, it’s them in general, they were always made with bad and greedy intentions, halo needed to end.
Anyone else remember the whole thing where they had to shut down the subreddit because they literally cultivated their own dumpster fire and would rather ignore it than address it?
I 'member.
those people that ran damage control for halo could not care less they damaged halo, and probably still think they were the good guys, thats why i stopped engaging with the halo community.
Tenkaichi 4 was the game on my mind during that part of the video too.
@@perrytran9504 Halo 3: ODST as whole is the perfect example, not only firefight.

Being a Halo fan today is more about defending 343 than actually enjoying the games.
I still find it ironic that 343 was named after a villain from the Halo series. Thank you for this video.
Not ironic, fitting
When it comes to Halo, it's impossible not to feel bitter, betrayed, angry, defeated & disappointed all at once.
As a (former) Saints Row, Star Wars, Terminator and Tom Clancy's -series fan, all I can say is: "welcome to the Club".

It’s a facts vs feeling debate. Fact is that sprint doesn’t work in Halo, but people want to feel “like a super soldier”

True, had the same but iam 25 now and I feel you. Can't even bring myself to play it again... So sad
Edit: that feeling when spineless shills sound like pre pubescent dweebs. Feels good to be post pubescent and also not a mindless consumer.
343 actually stands for: 3 steps forward, 43 steps back
THANK you for that section on the community.
@@OKMBVideos battlefield didnt go cod bruh it went overwatch/apex legends
Would explain the lack of flood in their games.
Id + Flood = Complete, hellish, mind-shattering HORROR
I'd LOVE that.
@D R wonder how they would be when they play half life 2, which looks far better than most modern games.
The end of the video really gets those feels going. It hurts because it is the truth. "You just had to be there."
