This and One way or Another By Blondie are songs that are Equivilent to female Stalkers and remind me of my Exs that were both blonde and blue eyed! Love these songs and those girls still even they want to kill me! LOL
@@MissMiddleEarthling Amazing song and video, one of my favorite. That is my Ex Girl Friend that Blondie is talking about LOL She was Crazy, had one of her attractive girl friends I did not know"Flirt" with me to see how I would act, I did nothing LOL She loved me after that but really she was Crazy. Ashley LOL "Whos that girl Running around with you" is another that captivates me, the video is great by Eurythmics also in this emotional song spectrum I would say. Great music all around from that synth era
"My four walls follow me through my past" indeed! This must be the best '80s music video ever. The sets, clothes, hair and makeup are so much of that era.
Southern California in the 80's Spring Break Palm Springs. So Rad! 😂 Cruising down Palm canyon strip, with friends in a convertible, drinking Wine Coolers and smoking cloves (not really smoking them just puffing on them. Haha).
Song takes me back to riding in a eurotrain to Krakow alone as a teen from Calais, asleep with soldiers all around and waking up and opening my eyes to the icy Berlin Wall at 6 in the morning. Winter of 1983.
Try driving into east Berlin in 1986. I had the pleasure of doing so. I was working for a US based tractor parts manufacturer. I routinely went through the checkpoints. My employer always cleared it beforehand. Yeah I did very well, though the East Germans did seem to take a liking to my green Porsche 928. Was never allowed to stay overnight. My business meetings were limited to 5 or 6 hours. And yeah for some reason the Stasi would regularly follow me. I usually picked up the tail coming out of the boarder checkpoint, and when I left to return back to the west. When I was transferred to another city past the main German border, I was tailed again until I crossed over into the west. The Stasi were pretty obvious about it cause they always had the best and fastest cars they could get in a single party system. The transfer out might have been KGB following me. You always had your car checked out before you took trips to ensure it was in good condition. The communists didn’t take too kindly to breakdowns. My employer offered me a chance to bring my 928 home when I came back to America. I took it and I’ve still got that car today, I got a 930 turbo since then but I still drive my 928 once or twice a week. I’ve still got my DDR papers in the glovebox and the pictures I took. When the border came down I made it a point to go back and see things. Was drinking one night when some of the old DDR guards recognized me. We had a fun night and we took some awesome photos the next morning. I still talk to some of them, I find the German people have a “ unique” sense of humor regarding the whole unfortunate situation. Their attitude on it is refreshing
One of my favorites from the Eighties. With her voice and that chilly electronic beat, it just doesn't get anymore "Europe during the Cold War" than this.
@@OniNoodleStudio To my North American ear at least, everything about this song screams Europe in the 1980's, and I was there. "Metro" itself is a European term, we call it a subway here. The references to London and Paris, very European police siren, electronic music, and the style of the video itself are also very specific to that place and time. I really don't understand your "Halloween" reference at all.
@@stephenmark6781 Well, i'm not from Europe since i'm from the united statesm...so i don't get your Europe vibes either. Besides, if i explained my "Halloween" vibes to YOU...it would just defeat the purpose.
Berlin is from LA. So much for Europe in the Cold War... but a tribute to the creative atmosphere this band could produce. Even the greatest Euro-disco song of that era was by NYC's Blondie, Heart of Glass. #blessings #GenXer #80s4ever
I've seen videos of this with bad/weak audio, so I appreciate you figuring out how to make it sound much better! Thanks for posting this and putting in the work!
I remember seeing this video for the first time on a local television show here in Los Angeles called MP3 with British transplant DJ Richard Blade back in the 80s
this is random and only really applies to me, but my grandfather who notoriously both hated and couldn't understand "rock music" told me he liked this one because the words he could pick up made him think it was a world war 2 song. ok. fair. that actually works.
My grandpa appreciated an instrumental passage of Pink Floyd I happened to have on one day. Said it reminded him of some music from his youth in Europe. Was a little triumph.

Sorry, but I disagree, as white chicks usually are boring in bed, most kind of just sorta lay there. Try a darker toned lady, at least twice. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This song trips me out because the synthesizers make it sound like a Halloween song or something out of Goosebumps but the song and lyrics are entirely irrelevant to spooky season lol
You got to ❤💘❤ a person like Terri Nunn. She was the about 15 years old girl that guest starred in TV shows "Barnaby Jones", "Vegas", and "Lou Grant",only to be on TV again, but only to be in her pop bands music videos and perform only with David Diamond and company.
The song is cold, artificial and brutal, just like the 1980s ... but somehow Terri Nunn didn't pull any emotional punches in her performance. Berlin wasn't cheerfully robotic in the way Kraftwerk was. They saw among all that plastic and neon a humanity struggling to exist and they helped it find a voice for its genuine expression.
“I remember hating you for loving me.” Very chilling.

Huge song in my day, when I was a college radio DJ in 1984.
I miss the 80’s
@suburbia8831 I miss my 20s.
Whew, what a looker that Terri Nunn
Still is. She has aged VERY well 😍
Listening to this in the mid 80's while heading down to watch the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona CA with Jack and Libby. Good times were had by all!

Another great reason why the 80s were so important in music history.
This song didn't get a lot of air time on the radio but MTV played it quite a bit. Still love it. It has a haunting sound to it.
Back then MTV was the real deal
With that happening you'd think radio stations would end up playing it. I could care less about their other 2 songs.

Terri Nunn definitely kicked ass in this video amazing voice
I only know the system of a down cover but this is brilliant ❤
That “sorry” takes me back and gets me every time.
Watched this tonight for the first time since the Eighties. Miss that era something fierce.
Same here - except for the AIDS epidemic.
I remember riding the subway in
New York City thinking about this song. It just seemed appropriate lol!
This is still in my playlist today.
The New Wave sound gets most of the run on here -- as it should -- but this is very good songwriting. The writing deserves more love.
What a great video. It deserves at least 1 million views.
Everyone should watch this in order to get payed
I own the Berlin vinyl with Sex (I Am) which is extended as the A side and this as a B side. Absolute masterful synth pop.
One of my favorite bands from the 80s. I was a teenager back then, and I loved Terri Nunn! Awesome voice!

Alkaline trio and System of a down, 2 great covers but the original is outstanding for sure.
Trio is an awesome version I never never system did one also. 👍
I'm only here because soad covered it and I wanted to hear this version haha
So glad System Of A Down covered this.
What a knockout big hair from the 80's brings back so many memories
seen them along with culture club in phoenix one hell of A concert 🕺🕺🕺
I used to ride the Metro in Indianapolis back in the early 80's. Now it's called IndyGo because everything is stupid these days.
Love Terri Nun!

The show was MV3 with Richard Blade. And he dated Terri Nunn for a while.

The song was used in a lot of sk8 videos
People are now riding the Metro again as Paris begins gradually to reopen. Hurrah!
Not tonight 😂😂😂

Who is the Soldier sleeping?
Why is this like a mirror image of original video?
Or is this the original?
This is not the same lead singer for Berlin. They are covering Susie Rausch who replicated me, then replicated her
Why is this video flipped horizontally?? Everyone's left-handed and the EXIT sign is backwards. The aesthetics are kinda awkward. Weird.
This is definitely Cold War. The band may be American, but the imagery is definitely European.
