I don’t think so; but being determined is another thing - prize is just an icing on a cake! It's such thing that you just can’t quit until the end. It’s rather disturbing however, it really ruins your mind and you can't stop thinking untill you solve it 😔
What happens after you complete that long challenging task? Yes, you feel happiness but that doesn't last very long unfortunately - then you feel emptiness inside of you, just like you lost a friend. That continues until you find another challenge of your life.
Thank to those scientists that make our lives easier - but I wish they also cared about themselves better all together... Salute! 🌷

      @girl1213 2 роки тому +32

11 to 17 is pretty young to be having multiple ulcers. I can't blame them *too* much since you weren't in the usual target demographic for such a condition.
It's similar to what happened to me when I was teenager: I had gallstones. Doctors were convinced I was having appendicitis, but one nurse suggested gallstones due to the fact I kept pointing to a certain area on my abdomen on where my pain was. It turned out she was right, so I avoided an unnecessary surgery. The Doctors explained the reason they were hesitant to even suggest it was because of my age. Most cases happen in your middle ages, not your teenage years.

Your gastritis could be caused by something else. Gastritis = inflammation or infection in the stomach/G.I. tract. Other causes of gastritis include adverse effects of certain medications, drinking alcohol, smoking weed (especially synthetic marijuana), also other health ailments/diseases. Diabetes is a big culprit. How is your blood sugar?

I think the fact that you blindly trust a TED talk video over your doctor probably says a lot more about you (and likely most of our country) than it does about your doctor's education. While some stomach ulcers are caused by H. pylori (the bacteria), most are in fact caused by our diet (food, coffee, alcohol) and worsened with obesity, eating large meals late at night etc. There is certainly some benefit to getting tested for H. pylori, but its not cheap and its not like a strep throat swab. Additionally the treatment is for multiple weeks and is not 100% effective. While you may not want to hear it, just having heartburn is not an indication to be tested for H. pylori, for all the reasons I have mentioned. But by all means, rant on the interwebz about how you're smarter than youre doctor after watching a 5 minute video.

The moment I read the title of this video I was hoping that it would talk about H. Pylori, and I felt vindicated when it did. I was diagnosed with H. Pylori in high school. For years before that I have chronic stomach pain and nausea, but every time I went to my doctor she said it was because of stress and anxiety. I was surprised when a new doctor told me my symptoms may be caused by a bacteria that eats away at your stomach lining, allowing acid to hurt your stomach. I took antibiotics that killed the bacteria, and my stomach slowly healed. I still have stomach issues, but they’re much less frequent.
I do wish this video described *how* H. Pylori causes stomach ulcers. And that it didn’t dismiss that stress and anxiety do cause stomach pain and nausea. Stomach issues are a stress response, and prolonged toxic stress weakens your immune system and allows bacteria to hurt your body. But it is a huge problem that many symptoms are dismissed by doctors as being due to stress, when they could be caused by a number of physical problems.

I had gastritis a few years ago--actually, about the same time as this video was made. That was the worst month of my life. Not because I was in pain, since the pain went away rather quickly after I started taking antibiotics, but because when you have an ulcer, there is so much food that you can't eat. Until one day I meet a new doctor, she suggested it might be a bacterial infection and wanted me to do a test, sure enough, the test showed positive for bacterial infection, then I got the antibiotics, after a week I was fully cured, haven't had the ulcers ever since.
Thanks to this video, I now know who I should thank the most 🙏

  • @05clarkn
    @05clarkn 7 років тому +10

Tbh it is the HCl that damages the mucosa of the stomach, leading to the ulcer. H pylori just messes with the stomach's pH detection so gastric juice secretions aren't turned off. That's why you prescribe triple therapy: two antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor to inhibit gastric juice secretion.
Also, H pylori is a common cause of *duodenal* ulcers (firstmost section of the small intestine). Gastric ulcers are less likely to be caused by H pylori alone; it is usually a combination of H pylori infection AND overuse of a class of painkiller called non-steroidal antiflammatories, such as aspirin and ibuprofen. With gastric ulcers, the infection needs to be all over the stomach but for duodenal ulcers only in the bottom-most region, closest to the duodenum (called the pylorus). The stomach-wide infection combined with inflammation (exacerbated by NSAID overuse, which inhibits prostaglandin as mentioned as a protective mechanism in the video) leads to gastric ulcers. Interestingly, if you have a duodenal ulcer, you are protected from gastric cancer, but more likely to get oesophageal cancer after treatment. Gastric ulcers can lead to gastric cancer and need to be closely monitored.

They basically said that. 50% of people have H.Pylori in their stomach but only some of them get ulcers. It seems like smoking, severe stress and many other things can weaken the body's defences, allowing the infection to overrun the protections in the stomach and create an ulcer. However, without the bacteria in the first place, this wouldn't happen.
The treatment is very simple - a week or so treatment with acid reducers and antibiotics. Way better than surgery (which was the final state treatment option before the bacteria was identified as the cause).

As a sufferer for a couple of decades, the course of three different antibiotics for ten days gave me an utterly new lease of life.
Nowadays I can eat hot food, greasy food, spicy food, get stressed, take booze and I'm fine, whereas before these contributing factors only worsened my condition.
I take my hat off to this doctor for changing my life for the better.
    The source of the bacteria?
People not washing their hands, after using the toiiet.
    It's that simple
It doesn't have to originate with you.
Others, preparing food or drink, even passing you a glass, plate, cutllery, etc, can be the start of the nightmare.
I've advised many folk, since being cured about three decades ago, to consider the antibiotic treatment, before giving any serious thought to surgery, which still appears to be a standard option for many.
If you aren't one of the 1% suffering from excessive hydrochloric acid why put yourself through decades of misery?

All I took away from it was that he was a hero and stress does NOT cause ulcers. When I would tell people the stress cause was a myth, they'd be like "Then what does?!" I wasn't able to fully explain it because the way i learned about it was always too complex....until now! I'm glad I can honor Marshall's work and can help dispel this rumor in my everyday life. :)

It's so crazy to think so many folks out there have gone through the same thing! I've suffered from peptic ulcers due to (what doctors believe is) ulcerative colitis since I was about eleven or twelve. It took them nearly five years (and four endoscopies/biopsies) to pinpoint that it was a massive bloody ulcer in my duodenum that was causing me so much pain -- of course, after having had my (perfectly healthy) gallbladder and appendix removed because there was "no reason someone this young should be in this much pain". Nearly a decade later, even though several rounds of PPI's, antacids, antibiotics and strict dieting, I still continue to suffer from chronic pain that ranges from manageable to needing hospitalisation for days on end, but that won't stop me from finding a cure! Kudos to this incredible pair of doctors, their work should be published worldwide!

"Fun fact": Stress may be related to ulcers because it usually affects our immunologic system and a inflamatory response. With a weaker immune defense, bacterias (and other organisms) that are usually "harmless" or easily defeated can turn out as a big problem. Of course, it doesn't mean that if you arent stressed you will not get ulcers, or if you are stressed you will get ulcers, but stress may be related to that problem.

In November of 2020 I was admitted into the Hospital, a few days later the doctors came into the room and said I'm diagnosed with ulcerative colItis. A long-term disease that's never going away, it goes away for a few years and later on in the future comes back. It causes severe stomach pain and diarrhea loose stools and internal bleeding. I stopped consuming dairy products and I feel a lot better, my stomach doesn't hurt and I don't have to keep going to the washroom. I've been Vegan since December 8th 2020 I never looked back, it's the best decision I've made.

@@rajaveln9355 I was on several different medications pills all at once in the hospital. I lost so much blood, I had to get a blood transfusion. I have someone else blood inside of me that's basically the same type of blood. Before I signed the paperwork I asked them more then once, has it been tested they said yes. My iron level was dangerously low I couldn't keep my balance if I tried to walk.

I had a scope done in early June. The doctor said I didn't have any signs of h. pylori in my biopsy, but after months of taking PPI's and Zyrtec (I was prescribed those before my scope) nothing has changed. I'm so careful, but if I accidentally get an ingredient my stomach doesn't like I feel like I've gone backwards. This all started after food poisoning in early November last year. I feel like it can't just be excessive acid. There has to be more to it.

Y’all hear about that one guy who only had a few weeks to live because of all the stomach ulcers he had, (he was a businessman, so he was always stressed). He asked the doctors to have him take a trip to the sea even though he was so sick because he was gonna die anyway. He has never been happier in his life, he smoked cigars, drank alcohol, and ate foods that were impossible for him to eat before. Stress is a big factor guys.

Stress make stomach week then bacteria takes over.

The second time I took antacids at first but then I noticed every time I ate a large salad I had respite from the burning pain. So I ate a lot of salad and within a week my ulcer was gone. Haven't gotten any ulcers since.

I also have h pylori freakin up my pipes and throwing massive raves in my tum. Also had antibiotics nearly kill me. Our best bet is large amounts of garlic, cut them into pill sized shapes. Probiotics like kefir are good, though I believe it would be best to grow these cultures ourselves at home rather than their usually sugary marketed version. Either way be careful when self prescribing even the garlic because it's powerful and do your own research too. also maybe we should keep in touch. Maybe there's a reddit group already...

When I was 15 the doctor prescribe me a liquid antacid "tagamet" when I was 24 due to lack of money to buy an expansive medicine someone told me to boil guava leaves and drink which I did and a day after the pain is gone. Now I know where to go or what to take.

I had it for 3 years. Had every procedure done twice (went to 2 GI specialists) and the first one told me to remove my gallbladder and "see" if it works.. and the second one just threw me on the strongest proton pump inhibitors with highest dosage and said good luck basically.
After awhile I decided to change everything I could within my lifestyle and apparently diet fixed me entirely. It's been almost 10 months since I started my strict diet where I don't eat any wheat, dairy, added sugar (non-natural sugar), soy and some fruit and vegetables that bother me for whatever reason.
Mess with your diet and listen to your body. Start with a very strict diet like the one I mentioned then every 2 weeks try adding a food (make sure the food doesn't have more than one new ingredient or else you won't know what bothered you) and your body will let you know if it's "bad" or not. Very tedious and not the best tasting diet, but if you're enduring the pain I was then you'll be more than happy to have it fixed even if it means eating dirt everyday. Best of luck
