As I was 15, I had appendicitis. I had to throw up several times and stomach ache. My Mom drove me to the ER, but I was sent home because the doctor assumed it to be nothing serious. Long story short, one week after, I had to go to the ER again because, meanwhile, the pain was unbearable. We found out that my appendix ruptured, and I had to undergo surgery immediately. The surgeon said afterwards that I was in a life-threatening situation and that I should have come earlier. I was like: Dude, I came but your colleague sent me home 😭😭
I've heard the extra details of this story, there were other people at the base who had medical training but he was the only one able to perform a surgery like this Good news is, Dr Rogozov didn't have to do this completely alone! They were in the room with him and all played the roles of nurses where they would hand him tools, wipe his sweat and of course hold up a mirror There are even pictures which i find hilarious cuz it means during this extremely intense moment one of those helpers pulled out a god damn camera lmao
I had appendicitis, but they just gave me really strong antibiotics. I didnt need surgery. They gave me the antibiotics in the ER, and then i stayed at hospital for a few days, just like in the video. I was amazed that i didnt need surgery. Im still grateful.
bro this is infurriating to me. I got mine removed 2016 and they told me there was no other way (in Germany).. since then it extremely hurts to hold in stool, but I can still do it. Also the 3 smaller cuts they made, especially the one through my belly button still sometimes hurt 8 years later. When I flinch my finger against an are near my belly button, if I hit the right spot it feels like im cut internally, which I was of course lol.
Antibiotics was the recommended approach when open appendectomy was the more common surgical approach due to high risk of complications from the surgey. Newer studies based on the modern laproscopic appendectomy surgery show it's better to just do the surgery given the low risk of complications and the risk of resurgence for the antibiotic approach
It was bizarre. 6 PM, I feel kinda under the weather with a stomach ache. Midnight, I'm in the operating room. 6 AM, I find out I narrowly avoided death.
Same, except this has always been a fear since childhood. Many of my classmates got appendicitis and had the appendix removed as a result. Scary stuff and apparently the pain is unbelievable.
I had an appendicitis at the age of 10 (during lockdown) and spent a few days there, thankfully I wasn’t misdiagnosed but I had to not eat for days because of the surgery and how it kept getting postponed. Couldn’t walk before and barely walked after. What made it worse was it started 2-3 days after my birthday.
I was 36 weeks pregnant when my appendix ruptured. The medical team thought it was just labour pain, and I gave birth. But I was still in so much pain after delivery, they rushed me for a CT scan and then to the ER for surgery, as I was going septic. Definitely had a guardian angel watching me that day- and so grateful for the medical team for saving my life!
it’s kinda funny that’s this is people’s fears bc I got mine removed in the fourth grade since it was gonna bursts. But yeah the pain was excruciating!
My dad had it. He said that he’s broken his wrist and not treated it for a week (continued doing work in the military/workouts), went through chemotherapy for stomach cancer, ruptured his eardrums countless times, etc (don’t join the army guys 😭), and he said that appendicitis was what made him cry. HE DIDNT CRY WHEN HE WAS ANNOUNCED TO HAVE CANCER AFTER 2-3 MONTHS OF IGNORING THE VERY VERY OBVIOUS SYMPTOMS, BUT HE CRIED AT THE PAIN OF APPENDICITIS 😭😭😭
I had appendicitis, about 6 years ago, and the pain mentioned in the video is literally on point. It hurts so much, whether you move, or you dont, I was just rolling around on the floor from the pain. I had to get surgery immediately, and the one with the 3 holes procedure was what the doctor went with. The doctor, after surgery, told me that the operation took a lot of time, not because the appendix had already burst, but because it BURST OPEN DURING THE OPERATION!!!. He said it was a dangerous situation, even for him, but fortunately they removed it. I dont have any health issues since
I also had appendicitis, about 6 years ago. My memories about the time is hazy but I still remember the pain. My appendix ruptured minutes before surgery and that hurts the most.
The exact same thing happened to me. It’s was supposed to be a simple 45 minute operation, but I ended up going under for 3 1/2 hours. They needed to reopen me twice since my body kept producing so many toxic fluids from the shock lmao
My appendicitis was what we thought to be food poisoning when I got it as a kid. Eventually the pain got so severe that I could not stand up, that lasted about 3 days before it got so intense my family finally took me to hospital. The doctors said the infection was so bad if I hadn't come in in the next 48 hours I could have died. Was in hospital for a week after they rushed me to surgery to get my appendix removed. The reason we didn't go sooner is 2 years before I had food poisoning so assumed it was that again. We theorise that the food poisoning 2 years prior likely made me more susceptible somehow to gut issues, as to this day in my twenties I still suffer a temperamental gut.
I've read from other sources that losing your appendix can lead to gut health issues, which I can attest to as ever since mine was removed I've had constant on and off gut problems.
Woah no way! I've been having very bad gut issues ever since my surgery last year. I just can't seem to figure out whether or not it's appendix related. Never had these issues prior to surgery.
My scar throbbing while watching this. I get an appendicitis when I was 5 or 6 yo (2001ish). I still remember the agony of that day like it just yesterday as it was so severe I couldn't stand straight. I still can remember everything: the clinic I was first diagnosed, that time when the nurse tried to put an IV in me, the post operation rehab. But most of all was the fact that my parents were being told by my doctor that if I was a little too late, I won't be here typing this comment.
I feel like everyone was told that apparently lol. Was in a family trip, it was an AWFUL night of just vomiting and vomiting and vomiting all night. We thought it was food poisoning, went to the hospital. Told us it was boutta blow. I got surgery that very day. Oddly enough it didnt' actually hurt much, it was mostly the vomiting that got me.
Well the symptoms of appendicitis can be distinguish easily. I had stomach ache one time that is so severe and I couldn't poop nor fart and even throw up when eating my fav food. The doctor speculated it could be appendicitis, which it is btw.
Nothing scary about it. I fought through the pain for 2 years. Had mine removed this year February. Still recovering. You are only limited physically.. I have added some weight since I can't exercise like I used to. The only weird thing about the experience was the dream I had during surgery that my soul left my body and went to somewhere else to be fixed. It was like life was a simulation and we like multiple complex organisms living on a giant chaotic body floating through space.
Consider how our ancestors in ancient times endured the agony of a burst appendix, suffering immensely without the benefit of surgical advancements.......
i was around 16 when my appendix decided to fail on me, i fell sick and family thought it was some kind of flu. I laid in bed all day just trying my best to get better but got only got worse as the days went on, I just kept on throwing up over and over, i couldnt eat a bite of food it got so bad that i actually litterally had to get up and tell my family i love them cause i felt like i was dying. They then called my cousin who is a doctor and he asked me if i was also feeling an internal pain when i touch my lower right abdomen i said no then checked and then said yeah kinda, to this day I thank God for him because he instanly knew what is was. I was able to get help before it ruptured and now im 19 and living happliy and peacfuly. I thank God for the fortunate situation i was in because i have friends that werent able to survive appendicitis. (Moral of the story, dont eat Nigerian Jollof rice from a Ghanaian wedding)
One time I pretended to be sick so I didn’t have to go to school , few hours later I was at the Hospital, getting ready to get surgery to get my appendix removed. Safe to say I never pretended to be sick again.
Had this happen to me two years ago, almost to the day (sept 16.). Tuesday evening I had a meal. Felt very full. But what was odd was that the feeling of fullness did not go away - not even hours later. Thought perhaps I over ate or was constipated. No pain - just felt bloated and distended. Day after (Wednesday) - same feeling. Tried to eat a little but very quickly lost appetite. Also quickly felt full when trying to drink. Like if one overeats on xmas dinner. Thursday - again same feeling. Had not been "to the toilet" since Tuesday morning. Still feeling full. Started to realize this was not normal. Friday morning - called my doc and asked him to see me. Luckily he said he was available within 30 mins of me calling. Showed up - took blood sample - blood sample showed high infection values. Doc squeezed my belly a little. Some pain - but not terrible. Then he listened to the belly and said "you have no gut sounds...none whatsoever - you are going to the hospital now!". Ambulance picked me up and rushed me to hospital ER. CT was done of abdomen and ....yep, burst appendix. Later that day was operated (by keyhole surgery). Surgeon said it was a "a real battle" and took 2 hours (normal appendectomy is 30 mins or so). Entire abdominal cavity had to be flushed and cleaned (one "highlight" form the surgery report was "tool not long enough to flush above liver"). Then 5 days recovery at hospital - with a lot of intravenous antibiotics, nasogastric drain (turns out that when bile cannot "go down" - it "comes up"), abdominal drain, urin drain, etc. Took a long time before my gut started to work as normal again - almost a week after returning from the hospital. The odd thing is - I was never in much pain!
@@theyeening Yea kindo. Worst part - I was considering not calling my doc that friday morning and wait over the weekend. That could have cost my life if I went into septic shock (which would almost certainly have happened as the appendix was blown to bits - the surgeon said they "found" my appendix just above my navel). The docs office took my temp when they tested my blood - showed I had a good fever going as well. This too I did not notice. I just felt off - bloated and "down".
just had my appendix out a few weeks ago. i had UNBELIEVABLE pain… on my LEFT side. it was so crazy 2 doctors didn’t know what was wrong, and I had to go to the ER and get scans to figure it out. So grateful I did because I NEVER assumed appendicitis since it was on my left side!
Was the appendix also on the left side? Some people have organs on the opposite side than people generally have, such as the heart on the right side. It is rare but it exists.
This is something that's always terrified me, especially since I've had a few instances of pain in my lower left (yes left) abdomen, but the end of this video has given me a sense of comfort knowing that - outside of extreme situations - there shouldn't be anything to worry about
I was hospitalized for an obstructed bowel and a perforated ilium, right side. The mild pain comes every now and then, even with the bimonthly infusion treatment, but I'm very sensitive to pain at times an a hypochondriac. So I feel ya, mate.
I had many instances of pain in my left abdomen for years until my appendix ruptured and nearly killed me in 2022. Keep an eye on it... and doctors are very likely to miss it if you have left side pain (i was seen by 3 doctors and 2 surgeons before a consultant surgeon asked me to go for surgery on a hunch)
Left side pain can be diverticulosis or (if female) maybe endometriosis. Still good to get checked out! My doctor told me my left side pain is probably endometriosis (it follows a pattern synced with my cycle). Oddly, I’ve had a lot less trouble with it since I’ve started taking a multivitamin and eating healthier. Maybe my hormones are getting better
I had appendicitis when I was a little kid! The doctors told my parents that it was good that they got me in, on time! I still have the scar of the operation! I was really lucky that my mother used to work in a hospital and the doctors really took care of me like their own!
An decade ago my younger brother got appendicitis, back then I never understood what was an appendix (We were 10 and 9) and my selfishness refused to see him, to this day I'm glad that he's still here
I had appendicitis when I was 17 years old. 3 days of pain. Initially I thought it was muscle aches but on the 3rd day it was so bad. My Dad took me to the the doctor and I was referred to a pediatric specialist and they confirmed I had appendicitis. I had a laparoscopic appendectomy and was released 2 days later just in time for the opening ceremony of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
This is also a very important video to raise awareness about antibiotic resistance. Conditions like this can be treated with antibiotics now, but the growth of AR can lead to the antibiotics we use now become useless in the near future. So it's important that we preserve antibiotics to only use for important conditions like this!
My Dad’s appendix burst while he was in the Australian Navy. At first they thought he was lying about the pain and sent him away. They eventually let him see a doctor after his appendix burst and he collapsed. Unfortunately the only doctor they had available at the time was drunk. He still performed the surgery. When the doctor cut him open, the man holding the light vomited, directly into the fresh cut. My Dad was dead on the table for 4 minutes.
Happy to say am one of the few that have survived a burst appendix and lived to tell the tale, its the worst pain ever!!!!! the build up to it started off like normal everyday stomach pains until it gradually got worst as the days went by. I couldn't use the toilet for 4 days, I'd seat there and nothing would could out no matter how hard I pushed and when I burped it tasted like rotten eggs boiled eggs. Just like the video the pain starts from the middle of your stomach and then shifts to the right side of your belly. My lower abdomen was in so much pain I couldn't move my right leg, it was it was so painful I was in a fetus position the whole night. I cant count how many time I vomited. It was a mix of feeling nauseated, wanting to poop and shivering. Its the worst type of pain I wouldn't wish on anyone. If it wasn't for my mother rushing me to the hospital I would have died in bed thinking it was diarrhea that would eventually pass. Dont be as stubborn as I was (still am), when something feels off about your body go to the hospital.
@@juditsomi4287False. Studies show that people without an appendix have more difficulty fighting off infections and they stay sick for longer. The appendix is essential as a repository of healthy bacteria, that can repopulate the gut after illness. Nice try though 🤦 You get a participation trophy 🏆
I’m someone who underwent open appendectomy when i was 9 and i am so envious of people who now get to be treated with simply strong antibiotics although with surgery there’s no chance of reoccurrence.
This happened to me when I was 8. Pain was so bad I have blacked out most of the trip to the hospital. When they cut me open, it took them over an hour to locate my appendix, which had ruptured, detached from my intestine, then somehow found it's way into my rib cage. I still have a massive scar from them searching.
Bruh this is the wildest comment in here lmfao 😂 the organ was like BRB gonna take a trip up to say hi to the heart and lungs don't miss me too much ✌️
For a male, appendicitis is the closest pain to labor. Had to drive myself to ER at 3AM while dry heaving. Mine was so infammed the surgeon said it would have burst in a couple of hours tops. This video made me squeamish 😬
I was in a similar situation back in December 16th of 2023. Woke up early one morning in excruciating pain I had never felt prior and was throwing up. Was taken to the hospital and found out my appendix was very inflamed and that it was good I came when I did or it could of had the chance to burst. Had to transfer hospitals for the surgery
I had appendicitis when I was a child which was surgically removed, and the pain of it before the surgery was indescribable. Then again, if you ever had a cavity, it's a bit worse than that and unforgettable.
Try dealing with an obstructed bowel or a pulmonary embolism. Feeling any mild discomforts in those two areas, where the literal scars are no doubt present, gives me severe anxiety spikes.
I like the medicine idea but if I had to have surgery, I'm ok with that too. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Thanks for the video Ted-Ed, your definitely helping save a lot of lives. I hope that this video can get to poorer countries.
When i was 14 i was entering my freshmen year and like a few days before my first day and i had a sharp pain in my side for some reason and me n my mom kinda thought it was constipation since i have had it before and it felt similar and it went away with time and i pooped it all out and felt better but this time i couldnt walk and i was in the fetal position and that was the only time i didnt feel pain but anyways we went to the hospital to get it checked and they did their thing and told me straight up” if u didnt come in today and went to bed u wouldnt have woken up so its a good thing u came in today” and they did their surgery and i was stuck in the hospital for a few weeks but man am i grateful for being alive now today
I had appendicitis which kept me up for a whole night before I decided to go see a doctor in the morning. Once I was at the hospital though, the pain had died down and I was convinced that I was fine and had just had a bout of terrible trapped wind... Thankfully though for the sake of my gut I did not stick with my gut and did decide to actually stay in hospital and have it removed. (appendix I will forever hate you for making me miss a party I wanted to attend)
The same thing happened to me. When I went to the ER I could barely walk or stand up straight. Right after the CT scan my fever broke and I told the nurse that I felt so good that I could do cartwheels down the hall. The pain never returned. The nurse said, "you feel better because your appendix just burst." Fortunately, it hadn't. Even the next morning right before surgery I felt totally fine.
Had appendicitis during middle school (half day) and I felt pain all over me but whenever I like sat, it didn’t increase. I was supposed to go on a play date with my best friends and sister but I never made it. Mom took me to the doctors office where she then drove me to the hospital and like a nurse used an ultrasound to find out what’s going on and then I ended up staying for the whole Labor Day weekend. My grandma had to help me shower the night I was staying and then I had surgery the next morning and somehow I saw a picture of my inflamed appendix. I’ve got the small incision too and I got discharged on Sunday and since that day I was going to a Khalid concert, I was told to use a wheelchair for the day. I think it changed the way my hip looks like cause I compare both with my shadow and I feel like my right hip has more space for movement than the other
I had appendicitis 7 years ago. The symptoms were bloating after meals and frequent belly aches. When the excruciating lower right side abdomen pain kicked in I went to the hospital and was diagnosed. The doctor adviced I go on a cocktail of strong antibiotics for a weak and I also got injections. Thankfully, the symptoms all but subsided within that time frame and I didn't need surgery.
I got appendicitis when I was 19. Somehow I found the correct diagnosis right away when googling the pain, and it's location on Google. Convinced myself that it couldn't be that, and I'm only making a big deal out of nothing. After a couple of painful months later It burst, was taken to the ER for surgery, and was told that the burst appendix had solidified to some inner walls in my guts and due to that poop wasn't all over my organs. Lucky me!
Thank UA-cam for recomending this to me, my cousin, nine years old, got her appendix removed because of this a few weeks ago, thank you UA-cam for recommending this to me so I understand better
My sister had an appendix burst once and I remember how much pain she was in she was crying and scared she went to the er and afterwards she felt much better thank you for this video now I know what it’s like and how to fix it
Had this. My parents thought it wasn't a big deal and it took several days to go to the ER. They literally had to wheel me in with a wheelchair, that's how bad the pain was.
I had sudden severe right abdomen pain last year, on checkup doctor told me it's appendix and gave me antibiotics. I was okay after 4-5 days. I was very happy but... after 1 month same severe pain started. I was very scared, I thought I have to undergo surgery now. But than the doctor gave me a strong antibiotics for 14 days and here I am, still fine..I really pray I don't have to face that extremely bad pain again, its terrible.
I've had nerve damage in my neck from a lifting injury, chronic crippling back pain including an L5-S1 fusion, broken my femur, crushed L ring finger. None of those compare to the pain I experienced w/ appendicitis. My whole body tensed, my hands were white and tingling, I could barely breathe. It was easily the worst pain I've ever had.
Thank you guys for spreading the news about this! My appendix burst over the summer and i thought it was just food poisoning or extreme bloating before i couldn’t walk straight and had to go to the ER.
Not being salty but it can't be termed as coincidence, if you had subscribed it lately and then you had surgery and then this video pop up, then it could be termed as coincidence. Me rn 🤓👆
I got appendicitis shortly after I started my first job and a few days before my 17th birthday. I woke up one morning with a sharp cramp like feeling in the middle of my abdomen and it got worse throughout the day. At one point I was hunched over balling my eyes out in severe pain. My dad took me to an Urgant care where I had to wait an hour to get checked up in and by that time the pain had moved to the lower right portion of my abdomen. After blood tests came back I went to the er and was told I infact had appendicitis and I was taken into surgery immediately. Apparently my surgeon was surprised at how well I was handling the pain considering my condition was very extreme. So far I think having appendicitis has been the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. I’ve broke. Plenty of bones, but that topped it for sure.
I had appendicitis 2 months ago. When it first started i thought it was a normal stomach ache and the next day i got a mild fever at 3:30 in the morning and my mom and dad take me to the hospital. While i was in the car the pain was so bad that i couldn't walk properly without my mom's help. When the doctors found out that my appendix burst they did a open surgery on me and after that i have to stay in the hospital for a week.
Thanks for educating about this, it's important for people to recognize if this is the kind of symptom they're dealing with! If my parents hadn't brought me to the hospital when I was tiny and had appendicitis, I probably wouldn't have survived it.
I remember my 4th grade science teacher telling the class the horror story about him going to the hospital for a pain in his side so bad he was throwing up, he had made it to the counter and thrown up and passed out right on the spot. His Appendix had burst right as he got to the counter and he would have died if he wasn't there already.
Was in 8th grade when my appendix ruptured. symptoms were vomit, nausea, and a weird pain on my right iliac and it spread around my stomach. The worst part of it all was I was misdiagnosed and got hospitalized for 1 and half week before they came to the conclusion that i had appendicitis. Once they knew its appendicitis, i underwent a major emergency operation. The surgeon said i was lucky that i survived ruptured appendicitis because i tell you, it took them a long time to realize that it’s not gastritis.
Thankfully I got rid of my useless appendix after it got inflamed and caused severe pain in university! My parents came rushing from out of town to check on me. I'm no longer worried about it anymore as it can't happen again!
Hate to break it to you but when removing the appendix surgeons usually tie the base of the appendix and cut a bit down from the base which may accidentally leave the remaining tip of it too long which may get infected again. There is also an extreme rarity that some people have 2 appendixes.
Your gallbladder can go bad also. The pain from the gallbladder is very much like the appendix. My appendix went bad and had to come out. About a year later my gallbladder had to come out.😢
i had it and did the surgery ; it s pain is different ; its consistent and painful not to a big extent but still painful ; doesn't diminish with time ;pain is on the side and finally you will throw up anything you eat
I was in 10th grade when this happened with me , but luckily my appendix burst in the hospital only and i was quickly taken for the surgery and after 2 weeks i recovered completely , thanx to modern science ❤❤
This is how it was for me… started off with belly button pain and a fever. Fever got worse within an hour and my pain travelled down to my right pretty fast. Started becoming more uncomfortable to the point I could no longer lie down on my right side, that was enough for me to go to hospital. 4 days later (gotta love British healthcare /s), surgery and I felt better within a week. My dad had it when he was 12, my cousin had it in her early 20s, and I had mine just before my 21st birthday.
I had appendicitis back in 2007. I woke up with extreme pain in my stomach that went down to my right side. I went to a clinic with my mom around 10am. By the afternoon I was in the hospital. They started operating midnight. To give you an idea of the pain, imagine someone like WWE's Big Show standing on one foot on your stomach. All that weight concentrated on one point.
Earlier last year I had a horrible scare. Ate a slice of pizza at work and then about an hour later started feeling weird cramps..brushed it off. as days went by the pain got worse, to the point where I couldn’t even lay down for a long period of time and even walking was painful with every step. I call my family to get some opinions, my aunt tells me how she had to get her appendix removed a few years ago bc of extreme abdominal pain and the doctors said if she came in any later, it may have been fatal. Hearing that as a 22yr old mortified me, I rushed to the ER. Spent 5 hrs there, they ran all kinds of tests and everything came back clean. I believe I did an open CT scan (scared of closed spaces) and even got Xrays, nothing. The pain would then come in and out for a few weeks then it just stopped. Now have a $3k hospital bill and still don’t have any answers to what that even was. Now..not sure if this is related at all or not but my menstrual came on about 2 weeks later….that wouldve been some extremeee pms that i never experienced before though. Give me some of your thoughts 🤞🏾
I had appendicitis when I was 8. Rapid onset. I was at school that day, I remember around lunch time I started to feel heavy and and got stomach pains similar to bad food poisoning. It got worse and I tried telling a teacher about it and they said I just had to wait for home time, toughen up etc etc. After school we went to my local GP who then told my mother to take me to hospital immediately. The hospital we went to said they didnt operate on children, so we had to drive another 30 minutes to get to the childrens hospital. As soon as we got there I was admitted and put through surgery. Apparently my surgeon said I was a few hours away from rupturing. I'm 20 now and still vividly remember that day and the days that followed.
I had my appendix removed this summer via laparoscopy, after going through intense pain 2 times over the course of 2 months. The pain I felt was exactly described in this video, first time being in the center of the stomach then at the bottom right. The pain before surgery and right after waking up from it was probably the most I've ever experienced. I recovered quickly though. The pun at 5:13 was noticed, by the way :)
I had an appendectomy last year, thankfully my wife made me go (took me) to the hospital and they rushed me in for surgery. I felt that pain on the right side of my belly button but just thought it was really bad gas, I was out of the hospital same day of the surgery, thank you lapriscopic surgery.
Had appendicitis when I was 17, thought it was a stomach ache/ had to poop really bad. Pain just got worse and I was stuck to the couch, grabbing my sides for about 10 hours before my mom drove me to the hospital. Whats funny is, on the 5 minute drive there, she managed to say 3 separate times a variation of "if you're just constipated, I'm gonna be really mad," which was awesome considering she was already mad. Anyway, after a quick (very painful) wait in the ER, they got me in a room (same one I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 3 years prior, haha) and it takes them all of 10 minutes to deduce I have appendicitis; cue my mom's shock and sudden flip in tone from "you're being dramatic" to "oh God you're in pain!". Got an ultrasound and everything before I went into surgery at 5 am the next day (don't trust them when they shove a mask in your face and say "it's just oxygen!" they are LIARS!). Recovery was about a week of laying in bed, though I honestly don't remember much pain post surgery. Listen to your body!
I had similar symptoms. I felt horrible pain in that area for years until it suddenly stopped and I felt a burning sensation that lasted for months followed by random fevers and daily headaches. After all these events... It all just disappeared and never came back.
Fun fact: In America about 10 years ago, they didn't have a diagnosis for re-occurring appendicitis. I had all of the symptoms that my two brothers had when they got their appendixes taken out, but then it slowly got better. The doctors were confused and diagnosed it as "interesting". Had a couple of flare ups over the years, but still have an appendix. When one of these flare ups happens, I just have to make sure the pain doesn't go away instantly.. that would be a clear indicator that it ruptured.
I had mine taken out 20 years ago after a handful of bouts. Doctor diagnosed it as GERD originally because the pain was mid abdominal between sternum and navel. It would pass after several hours. Never had that pain again after appendectomy.
The worst pain ever. I was 15 and it was the day before my BIRTHDAY, as well. It came out of nowhere. Could barely walk, chills, throwing up, felt like literal death. I had moments before it burst. Thank God.
I was 6 years old when my appendix ripped, it had infected my entire body and the doctors had told my parents that I could die at any minute but thankfully they did 2 surgery’s and thanks to god and the doctors I was able to live. Now I’m 18 and going to graduate this year!
I still remember I went to write a Chartered Accountancy exam. It was the first exam and my stomach started hurting during the exam. I somehow finished it, knowing fully well it went horribly and rushed home. The next exam was the next day and I had no time to prepare for this. The pain kept increasing and I had to be rushed to the hospital. The doctor immediately assessed it was appendicitis but asked to do a test the next morning to confirm. My dad said "If it's not appendicitis, you have to give the exam". It was appendicitis and I skipped that exam and all exams after that. Super glad that happened as I realised later how much I hated that course and how miserable I would have been had I given those exams well and passed
Felt to me like a cramp in a muscle I couldn't place, Was constantly crunching forward while sitting to try and ease the pain. Grimacing and unable to lay down, water did nothing, food did nothing. uncontrollable pain vocalisations. Had to beg my family to see a doctor while I was having this in India, while they kept trying alternative remedies. Side note: Don't drink water from the Ganges, don't give in to religious pressure from parents.
I've had severe abdominal pain plenty of times throughout my life, sometimes even where my appendix is supposed to be, but it's always passed. How am I supposed to know when it's dangerous if it's never been dangerous so far, and a doctor visit would have been a waste of money?
Am I the only one that can’t watch those videos without cringing when it comes to internal stuff? These are such childish animations, but the swelling of bursting and the inflammation, felt it
I had appendicitis 2 or 3 years ago, but I didn't feel any pain, just a weird feeling in my stomach, so seeing all these stories makes me fortunate that I didn't experience any pain
Mine ruptured on my 7th birthday. And I went on for a couple days without knowing what was wrong with me. The care team sang me happy birthday and gave me a teddy bear though forever grateful 🥺❤️
Wednesday: In the morning, I started feeling mild pain in my abdomen. I thought it was normal and would go away on its own. Thursday: The pain got much worse and became unbearable. I couldn’t walk properly and had to lie in bed all day. I started vomiting and had diarrhea and nausea. It was so bad that I couldn’t eat or drink anything. If I tried to eat or drink, I would vomit. That evening, I went to the hospital, and the doctor ordered X-rays, blood tests, and an ultrasound. After reviewing the results, the doctor said I had acute appendicitis and needed surgery right away. Friday: Around 9 p.m., I went into the operating room, and I woke up from anesthesia around 10 p.m. After the surgery, I still felt pain where they operated. Saturday: In the morning, the pain was strong, and I couldn’t walk properly. By evening, the pain had eased a bit. Sunday-Monday: I stayed in the hospital until Monday morning. Now, I have a little pain, but I can walk normally.
Hello, I wanted to share my personal experience with appendix pain in case it helps someone else. For years, I suffered from intense abdominal pain and spasms every couple of weeks. Doctors initially misdiagnosed me with Mediterranean Sea Fever, as the symptoms can be quite similar to those of appendicitis. I was prescribed medication for Mediterranean Sea Fever, but the pain persisted. It wasn’t until one day the pain became unbearable and persistent that I had a sonar, which revealed fluid around my appendix. I was rushed into surgery, and it turned out that the issue was with my appendix all along.
I got aware of this because of a manga based on a isekai'd doctor where he had to perform this surgery. Thanks for the video. I now know more about the appendix
what?? no need for surgery?? my dad always scared me about appendicitis when i was a kid, that i should stay seated while eating lunch or dinner or else i would get appendicitis and need painful and expensive surgery
I don’t know what caused my appendicitis but I first felt the pain when I was eating dinner at 11 years old. I told my mom and dad but didn’t immediately go to the hospital and instead went to school the next morning. It was hard to walk and I was literally limping around. My parents took me out of school early because I still complained about the pain. I actually wasn’t even going to go to the hospital until my dad urged my mom to take me. I hopped around two hospitals because the first one we went to was packed and couldn’t assess me until hours from when we came. That whole hospital hopping situation took a whole day. Anyway, they ended up telling me I needed immediate surgery because my appendix ruptured. It took me a week to get discharged from the hospital and I’m now living fine 5 years later. The doctor did tell my mom that if I would’ve waited another day, I could’ve died. That still scares me to think about til this day.
I had an Appendicitis and had surgery when I was 14 on April 28 2011. I remember that day because I just finished in-school suspension for April 26 and 27th. I wrote 12 page memoir for fun on what happened to me be between Tuesday April 26 2011-Friday May 6 2011. I was out of school for a week for recovery.
Did your mom sue?
Doctors be like:- Everything is alright. Now pay us 10000$.
@AX5Terminator my parents told me that I could do that on my own 🤡 but I didn't. I don't remember why I didn't do it, tho...

My dad got appendicitis this year luckily he is still alive
Wow, Dr. Rogozov is an absolute BEAST of a human being. Just, wow
Yes, I imagine it must've been quite the challenge not only physically, but also mentally
Mark Watney followed in his footsteps I suppose. 😅
yes, i can still imagine doctor operating on you or you operating on a patient, but you operating on yourself is a big leap of imagination
I've heard the extra details of this story, there were other people at the base who had medical training but he was the only one able to perform a surgery like this
Good news is, Dr Rogozov didn't have to do this completely alone! They were in the room with him and all played the roles of nurses where they would hand him tools, wipe his sweat and of course hold up a mirror
There are even pictures which i find hilarious cuz it means during this extremely intense moment one of those helpers pulled out a god damn camera lmao
The story is the most Soviet you'll ever hear.

Dear god the explanation of it all gave me intense anxiety, condolences to anyone that has suffered from it
It was bizarre.
Condolences are only given when someone has died, not if they survived

OMG this sounds extreme. Thanks humanity we have treatment options and bless the people who cured you.
OMMGG THAT LIKE INSANELY PAINFUL glad that you were able to endure and recover now😨😨
That sounds very hectic.
Thank God for your life and the incredible medical team ❤

when people ask me what my worst fear is, ITS THIS. Every time I even feel pain where my appendix is, trust, I will burst into tears😭
I feel you sis...😢 I also feel terrified of this...everytime I feel a small pain or uncomfort I am scared...the horror of still having the appendix 😢
it’s kinda funny that’s this is people’s fears bc I got mine removed in the fourth grade since it was gonna bursts. But yeah the pain was excruciating!
The pain is so bad you won’t even be able to stand up straight, so don’t worry
@@Minty..ffreshmen will survive the most gruesome events but will surrender at tummy pain (very relatable)
I dont have any health issues since
Me when 8yr old😢
I also had appendicitis, about 6 years ago.
The last time I was this early, I still had my appendix
😂😂 I hope the surgery went well
My appendicitis was what we thought to be food poisoning when I got it as a kid.
WOWWWWW...THAT COULD HAVE TOOK A DRASTIC CHANGE, ANYWAYS! VERY GRATEFUL THAT YOU ARE STILL ALIVE :))
I've read from other sources that losing your appendix can lead to gut health issues, which I can attest to as ever since mine was removed I've had constant on and off gut problems.
Hope your well now ❤❤❤
Question : Did it start with random bursts of unbearable pain from your left side?
Woah no way! I've been having very bad gut issues ever since my surgery last year. I just can't seem to figure out whether or not it's appendix related. Never had these issues prior to surgery.
That's exactly how mine went. How crazy. Who would think that something so small could hurt so bad, and be so dangerous.
This has unlocked a new fear for me
I've had this fear for a long while (especially with my anxiety!)
This one always scares me. I try to eat fruit and fiber in hopes that it may help the odds against it but who knows.
Well the symptoms of appendicitis can be distinguish easily. I had stomach ache one time that is so severe and I couldn't poop nor fart and even throw up when eating my fav food. The doctor speculated it could be appendicitis, which it is btw.
Really?
Nothing scary about it. I fought through the pain for 2 years. Had mine removed this year February. Still recovering. You are only limited physically.. I have added some weight since I can't exercise like I used to. The only weird thing about the experience was the dream I had during surgery that my soul left my body and went to somewhere else to be fixed. It was like life was a simulation and we like multiple complex organisms living on a giant chaotic body floating through space.
Rogozov is such a king for operating on himself and saving his own life. Big respect
Consider how our ancestors in ancient times endured the agony of a burst appendix, suffering immensely without the benefit of surgical advancements.......
The worst part for me is that you feel okay one minute and the next you are in severe pain...
They didn’t live, they died much earlier. For many reasons, medical science is just one reason.
They used theirs to build all the megalithic stuff so, they didn't encounter the same problems we see today
Cavemen had to do surgery with stone tools and a rock to the head as anesthetic
Our ancestors didn't suffer from all these as they were nothing but inventions for commercial purposes.
i was around 16 when my appendix decided to fail on me, i fell sick and family thought it was some kind of flu.

Wait, did you have appendicitis???? Or did they just. Not do CT scans or something??????
They did a scan lol
This is actually terrifying to read - especially considering the pain from appendicitis tends to be intense...

Was the appendix also on the left side? Some people have organs on the opposite side than people generally have, such as the heart on the right side. It is rare but it exists.
@@sahelichowdhury nope! it was still on my right side!
Man, that doctor is brave. Glad he made it.

No amount of explaining can truly explain how a pain will feel!

Lucky me!

@@hungnguyen3957 I'm hoping my surgeons did a good job and I was not informed of having 2 appendicies
Your gallbladder can go bad also. The pain from the gallbladder is very much like the appendix. My appendix went bad and had to come out. About a year later my gallbladder had to come out.😢
its crazy how i watch this video after a week i had an appendicitis.. now recovering from appendectomy surgery ❤
i had it and did the surgery ; it s pain is different ; its consistent and painful not to a big extent but still painful ; doesn't diminish with time ;pain is on the side and finally you will throw up anything you eat
I was in 10th grade when this happened with me , but luckily my appendix burst in the hospital only and i was quickly taken for the surgery and after 2 weeks i recovered completely , thanx to modern science ❤❤
I have a friend who was told to go home with bad belly pain, it burst while she was at home, safe to say she got a healthy payout

Dr rogosov seems like the greatest companion to bring with you in the apocalypse
I remember the pain. It wasn't fun...but got to skip work for two weeks!
I had an appendectomy last year, thankfully my wife made me go (took me) to the hospital and they rushed me in for surgery. I felt that pain on the right side of my belly button but just thought it was really bad gas, I was out of the hospital same day of the surgery, thank you lapriscopic surgery.
I was 11 when I had appendicitis and the pain was unexplainable. I can't even walk and stand.
I was 11 too when mine Burst, I hope you are doing well now, sending you lots of love ♡
Every Ted Ed videos are always feel so good to watch, love it!❤
Fun fact: In America about 10 years ago, they didn't have a diagnosis for re-occurring appendicitis.
Thank God.
fun fact: your intestines don't have nerve endings, but when they stretch out due to gas or infection is when you start feeling pain.
I was 6 years old when my appendix ripped, it had infected my entire body and the doctors had told my parents that I could die at any minute but thankfully they did 2 surgery’s and thanks to god and the doctors I was able to live. Now I’m 18 and going to graduate this year!
Am I the only one who literally can’t finish this make my stomach hurt
had it when i was 16, and i wouldn't wish this kind of pain to my worst enemies

Ted ed's animation never ceases to amaze me!!!
Don't drink water from the Ganges River might be the MOST IMPORTANT advice EVER! 😅
Excellent explanation ❤
I've had severe abdominal pain plenty of times throughout my life, sometimes even where my appendix is supposed to be, but it's always passed. How am I supposed to know when it's dangerous if it's never been dangerous so far, and a doctor visit would have been a waste of money?
Same boat brother
Am I the only one that can’t watch those videos without cringing when it comes to internal stuff? These are such childish animations, but the swelling of bursting and the inflammation, felt it
It's like the Gallbladder, if it's removed, there's other organs that will do the same function.
Just had appendicitis surgery last month, best decision ever. No more random stomach ache, and the surgery wound is small too you barely notice it
I’m a merchant sailor….. while I’m out it’s my worst fear
I love your videos TED-Ed keep it up!!⭐
Houdini died from appendicitis!
Mine didn’t rupture but it was removed.. the pain was excruciating 😔
I had appendicitis 2 or 3 years ago, but I didn't feel any pain, just a weird feeling in my stomach, so seeing all these stories makes me fortunate that I didn't experience any pain
A small, dried piece of stool? There's a name for THAT??! 😆😆😜
Mine ruptured on my 7th birthday. And I went on for a couple days without knowing what was wrong with me. The care team sang me happy birthday and gave me a teddy bear though forever grateful 🥺❤️
For every like I get, I will do a push up 😅.
Will you film it and upload it?

17 years ago my appendicitis burst and I 5050 in the hospital. Good thing I underwent surgery and thanks for the appendicitis.
watching this video makes me feel like i have appendicitis even though i know i dont 🙂↔️
