The only tip i have is just ride faster.
This applies even to beginners. All pros know that, full gas, you fall, get up, full gas, hospital, full gas etc gets you to the top. Modesty is for the weak 😊

I would also add, make sure you don't have a lean air/fuel mixture, because this can greatly increase engine temps.
Many of these bikes/atvs are set up to run on the leaner side from the factory, due to strict emissions standards that must be met.
Hard cold starting, popping from exhaust on deceleration, random stalling, and increased engine temps are all signs of a lean air/fuel mixture.
The way to correct this will be to purchase a tuner module for EFI systems or to re-jet for carbureted fuel systems.
Probably should of provided user error issues as well.. (don't use tap water to replace coolant unless in a pinch or emergency then replace after.) If you get mud in your radiator, it's going to play huge factor in the bike cooling. Oh and when your bike is hot, dont pop off the cap until it's cooled off to check the level! I've seen so many burn injuries from this.
The first one along with full synthetic oil is all you’ll need. Well that’s my thoughts as I’ve only used full synthetic and none of those other things over the last 35 years without any overheating problems
I love your guys stuff, and shop there all the time, BUT, people need to make sure to look at the reviews on that Tusk thermometer radiator cap. When I was looking for a new cap, I ended up skipping that and went with the CV4 you sell. Love it. Then, Engine Ice is a gimmick. Use standard 50/50 coolant from your favorite brand, change it every year or two, and it'll be fine. Lots of people run the Honda pre-mix, but Prestone seems to work just as well. Now, recovery tank might be a good addition. I'll have to think on that one!

You forgot about oil cooler for 4 stroke engine, helps keep engine cooler and also give you a larger oil capacity and give the oil a much easier job when it is less hot.

My yz250x runs about 150. I have a tusk thermometer and check with a infrared gun. It rarely ever goes over no matter how hard I push it. If it does go over I never exceeds 160. I have one of those recovery tanks too.

I would only add a few points 1 correct jetting as lean is hotter. 2Correct gearing as slipping the clutch adds heat. 3 ridding cleanly and keeping momentum will keep the air flowing through the fins.

i have a YZ 450f and the only time it ever overheated and spewed steamy stuff out of the relief tube was when i rode up a long mtn fire road for a few miles with my girlfriend on the back telling me to go slower... next time she walks ! :)

my Husky runs hot too. I am now going to try the Evans system. remove water base fluid, prep and flush, remove thermostat and bypass (Samco hose kit), fill with Evans fluid, relieve pressure cap and allow to free flow and heat and pressure escape. Yes I have a fan.
Same here, riding when it's 40c plus is hard to keep the bike cool
Also another helpful way to keep engine cooler , is to use high octane fuel, motor runs easier, and gives more power which means more efficient less heat

This is bullshit but for the piddling amount of fuel these bikes need, it is a good idea to spend extra on the highest octane possible as these premium fuels have premium additives to help keep injectors clean.
Octane doesn’t give more power. Octane is only a measure to prevent detonation. Using an octane greater than what the mfg requires is a waste. If the engine (compression, etc.) requires 91 than use that octane. If it spec for 87, you’ll get no benefit. Look it up. Learn about octane and why it matters. Calling it premium is just bs.
Sorry you are incorrect, Howard is correct. Using the "correct fuel" is the best. Check owners manual, I found that my Husky requires a certain type of race fuel and octane rating. Runs much better now.
@@catmanflorida8545 There you go bud. Your manual calls for a higher octane fuel so you should use it, just like he said. But using 93 in a bike that only calls 87 provides no tangible benefit besides making money fly out of your wallet faster. The one exception is if you can only get ethanol free gas in 91. Then if you have a carb'd bike the ethanol free stuff will be superior over time.
What’s a good temp to set the 1st accessory at?
I've installed Myler super cool Rads on my 300... makes no noticeable difference.
use nu-clean and it will absolutely clean out all dirt and grime from it. Couldn't believe how much crap was in mine.

Guys how hot is too hot? I have a 2009 CRF450X and I put a Trail Tech Voyager on it and a red flag for me is anything 215F+. Is that too high? I try to avoid the slow speed stuff but it's just too fun!
is good idea to finger-spin the radiator fan on your bike and make sure it freely spins.
Have you tried Even’s coolants?
A cooler spark plug and heat wrap on the headers I’m sure would help too

Can the fan fit on a 1984 uz125
Use Evan’s 100% coolent, it’s not water so it won’t boil, it’s boiling point is 300’ Celeus and it won’t rust anythingthing inside
Why do you not recommend using a flat head screwdriver to straighten your radiator fins. could it damage the fins or is it just harder and takes longer.
It's easier and faster with a knife/screwdriver in my experience. And that tool is designed for a different style of cooling fin and I dont believe it would work at all on a radiator the style of the one in the video..

Never use 100% antifreeze. Water is what does the cooling. Use 50/50, and it's best to go with a prediluted mix if you haven't mixed before.
hi I also have a 2008 klx450 love the bike but on tight single tracks I'm overheating too,going to check the water pump but I am going to try out the engine ice keep hearing good stuff about it I may end up adding a fan but do yourself a favor if you're adding water make sure is not tap water Distilled is what I am using with hyper lubes (which isn't working well for me)but tap is bad stuff will cause major corrosion.
But with Prestone in my other vehicles i dont buy the 50/50 because your buying Water and antifreeze use the distilled again
I had a radiator rust out as well as freeze plugs on Astro van was in a wreck and the repair shop didn't put anything but straight tap water and i had to replace nearly every part of the cooling system free,e plugs yata yata took a big loss when I sold it

Nice bike! Anywhere from 180 to 220 degrees Fahrenheit is usually considered within normal operating range.

Interesting that before liquid cooled engines, I never had any noticeable issues with cooling on my old RM.
Wasn’t the purpose of liquid cooling to alleviate any concerns with potential overheating ? It has definitely been a boom for the aftermarket retailers to sell “ Magic” wonders to the riding community. Thereby separating you from your days wages !
Liquid cooling keeps a more consistent temperature, it's important for the fuel injected bikes. -Charles
My ktm 105 overheated and blew the blow off while I was riding in the snow. I ride a lot during the summer in 98° weather, should I be worried about overheating during the summer
Use quality full synthetic engine oil 10w50 weight. Change the engines coolant too. Fresh antifreeze! Pre mixed 50/50 formula coolant. Follow these 2 tips u WILL NOT OVERHEAT. If you do then you have engine problems an need professional motorcycle mechanic.
@@Davido50 so I figured out what was wrong, the head gasket was in about 8 separate pieces but that doesn’t matter anymore as the engine is now fully blown, spun the connecting rod bearing and it sent pieces of bearing material throughout the egine
The bigger radiators maybe not good idea. Yes they take more cooland, heat slower but it's hard to cool down, because they are bigger than normal radiators

I would say to keep your air cold bike from over heating buy a liquid cold bike works every time

How do they work and should I buy one for my Yamaha WR 180? I have a problem with it right now that all of the coolant liquids are spilling out from the overspilling hose or whatever it is, even when the coolant levels are normal. Any tips for cooling it down?
@@wgns9645 a oil cooler is a radiator for your oil. Does your 180 have a radiator fan if not that would be a good first step for slow offroad riding

It decreases the surface tension so more surface area is in contact with the radiator surface which means more cooling

Never use tap water in your radiators; best to used distilled water I believe.

The w stands for winter...
You're right, but it's not because it's meant to only run in the winter. The w number is it's cold weather viscosity rating. You can run a w-rated oil any time of year, as long as it's warm weather (or single viscosity) rating is appropriate for the engine and conditions. 10W-40 is rated at 10 for cold weather and 40 for warm. It's the rating given by SAE during a test to see how quickly oil flows through a tube at certain temps.
What about air cooled motorcycles
Stay away from excessive idling is probably the best tip for air coolers.

Not really. Less efficient than water based coolants. Yeah it has a higher boiling point, but it makes the engine run hotter overall.

What the hell is a owners manual
High pressure cap ? Really ! If you consider the principle of weakest link in the chain, higher pressure is transferred to any potential weak points in the system such as head gaskets .
Oldest trick in the book. I've never seen any issues caused by it and it seems to work good in sandy or muddy conditions. -Charles
I thought the same, I have the oem 1.1 cap and wanted to go to the 1.8 guage reader as this one in the video on my WR450F am afraid to much pressure and hotter boiling point cant be better than the 1.1..
Buy a two stroke
I change my oil twice a year on average. I change it to 10W-30 in the winter and 10W-40 in the summer. Lol. Then again I usually ride a Honda meaning you can use sex lube to lubricate your engine and never change it and it'll still run for 30 years. Lol. My trike has went more then 10 years without an oil change I think

He said that a higher pressure cap increases the boiling point. That doesn't sound right. I think what he meant was the higher pressure cap increases the point at which coolant escapes through the cap. I think the poi t at which the coolant boils would remain the same.
