Of all the dirt bike maintenance videos on Facebook, these are by far the best. Chase, you have a talent most people don't have. Don't stop!
Well done, Chase, I learned something again! Thank you!
Thanks Chase - another great maintenance video! I never thought about checking the condition of the actuator arm.
Great video! Thanks for the tips!
Excellent video, I just fried my clutch (6000 miles), this was very informative!
These videos are better than any training videos I've ever seen. I went to automotive school and even the videos and books were not this well explained
Great Video.
Very good video, keep up the good work!!
Thank you! So helpful :)
Thank you
Thanks, I am really benefitting from these videos.
Glad to hear it. Thanks for checking it out!
Love my hydraulic clutch super easy
My son's XR80R has always had a very difficult to pull clutch for such a small bike, I am going to check rhe Apply lever and pushrod for wear, hopefully that frees it up some. Poor kiddo has such a hard time with it. Feels stiffer than alot of Harley's.
Very good video
Great video
Great video chase!!! Thank you!!!
You bet! Glad you liked it - Chase
My yz250f (07) seems like clutch slips or something in the mid range of the 5th gear. I’ll probably inspect my clutch plates and basket. All the stuff went over in this video
thanks dude
clutch up wheelie , does it burn the plates ?
you are my best
There are what looks like some sort of cut out on the tips of each fiber plate, is there a certain way to orient them? Line them up or stagger them?
How about for #6 - keep fresh oil by changing often.
I like it! Fresh oil is definitely helps. Thanks, Brian.~Chase
What is clutch dog?
Theja Gc I don’t know what’s clutch with you?
Is clutch in gear oil on 2 stroke?
Would this type of wear have any affect on how the bike feels as you're riding, for example the bike might feel sluggish and vibrates hard a lot on throttling? I have a 2014 XR650L and I'm trying to eliminate possible causes like wheel alignment, chain slack, suspension? Any advise would greatly be appreciated
After installing new clutch the add clutch fluids?
If your clutch is grabbing when the lever is almost fully out does that mean I need a new clutch
Mine stalls when I put it I. Gear I have to give it a bit of gas it’s a 85. Is this normal? I don’t think it realy is
On my bike when I release the clutch the lever is almost all the way released before I get traction is that normal
This video is clutch!!!
I just replaced the clutch in my Raptor 350, then changed oil again shortly after. Is it normal to have a little clutch material in the oil filter after clutch replacement??
Did you bathe your new friction plates in oil before installing?
I have a on the fly adjuster too and people keep messing with it lol
I don't really use my clutch only when I'm stopped
I have a KTM exc450 six days. when its warm there is a rumble from the clutch, when I depress the clutch it is quieter. It performs well and is still light. Any suggestionsThanks
The rubber cushions at the back of your clutch basket could need replacing, they become hard over time and are often the cause of the rumbling noise you're experiencing. Don't hold me to that though just taking a shot at it
Awsome
How should I use my clutch when i come into a rut?...do i rely on momentum and pull in the clutch or just balls to the walls and pin it?
If you're on a motocross track, you always want to carry as much speed as possible into the rut and let your momentum get you through long enough until you're ready to accelerate out. If you need to give a little has while in the turn, then use the clutch to modulate the power without unsettling the bike. Unless I absolutely have to, I try no to pull my clutch in while in a rut. But every turn is different so this sin't gospel. Just remember, Dungey wasn't the gnarliest dude on a bike in terms of raw speed, but he was amazing at carrying excellent speed/momentum through corners. - Chase
Hello Chase, putting my bike into first gear from neutral it makes the bike jump. Is this normal
Thanks
Couple things could be causing that. Sometimes when a bike isn't warmed up it can jump a little, you might need to adjust your clutch lever farther out or you may have too much slack in your cable. Try those out and see it that helps.
how to buy in vietnam :'( :'(
Matt,
I have a question on my 2019 KTM SX-F 450. I bought a Hi-Flow water pump for it and while i was going to change the prop, I went a head and changed the seal as well. I also have a "2019 Service Manual". Here is my issue. When i took the clutch cover off (1st time)with the water pump gear, I didn't realize there is balance gear on the water pump shaft. This gear has 2 dots. One of them is on one side and the other is on the other 180 degrees on the back side. The manual which i check several times, does "NOT" mention ANYTHING about these 2 dots,or the dot on the crankshaft gear where it turns the water pump gear. I'm assuming one of these 2 dots from the water-pump balancing gear has to lineup with the dot on the crank gear. Its so strange that service manual does NOT mention ANYTHING about ANY dots on any of these gears.
(((((((FYI, my main concern is that the water pump gear has a " piece of metal wight" on it, I'm assuming its for engine vibration to keep the engine vibration down, not 100% sure. Not really sure why water pump gear is shaped like that with weight balance on it,))))))
Anyway, would you happen to know the proper installation of this water pump gear and the lining up the dots?
I appreciate any help or advice. Thank you
Poop On-iJUNKs ask somewhere else. Copy and paste this comment and ask it on ThumperTalk or something
What is cultch dog?
Hello chase my bike is creeping in 1st while the clutch is engaged and at a stop what’s up with that thanks
There are a couple things that could be causing creep in your clutch. Some things to try are the following: 1. make sure you have your lever adjusted far enough out. 2. have the right amount of free play in your cable 3. If you have aftermarket levers, try using the stock lever again and see if it gets better, sometimes after market levers change where you clutch engages. This literally just happened the other day. Try those out and let me know if they help.-Chase
Hey, I got a bit of a problem. On my ktm 85 sx when I have the clutch pulled in and I put it in gear the bike jumps and dies. It's a hydraulic clutch and I have just bled the line and it is full of oil. I also just replaced my clutch pack and springs. Kinda stumped. If you have any idea what it might be that would be awesome! Thanks and great videos
Nolan, is your clutch stock or have you put an aftermarket one in?
@@rmatvmc the new one I just put in is after market but it had a stock clutch in before I replaced it and it was doing the same thing
Hey chase!!! If I upgrade to a Hinson clutch basket , will it work with the recluse torque drivemanual clutch , or should I stick with oem
The two will not work together. You would need to stick with OEM. - Chase
@@rmatvmc thanks
Full Hinson is 1100 for my ltr
Hey man, i just ordered the full hinson kit for my ltr as well but was just wondering how its held up for you. Is it worth the money?
Great clear video but I get 100hrs out a clutch set easy
Just looked 138 on the last one
Hi I have a yzf250 04 I’ve just got it back from the shop after having a new gearbox fitted as the 5th gear was not working now the clutch is not working at all I’ve tried adjusting it and it won’t work what could be the problem
It won't engage or disengage? Did it ever work after you got it back from the shop? Maybe something got overlooked. There's a little metal ball that goes between the push rod and throw out bearing. I'd go back through and check if something is missing if you've already tried to adjust the cable. -Charles
Would a fried clutch cause my yfzr to not start
Not really.
Oops, I haven’t checked mine in 230 hours, my clutch is not 100% right now. I have a brand new clutch ready to go in
4-6 hours? jesus christ my crf250 has 250+ hours on it and i havent put a new clutch basket in yet. I went through a clutch cable though!
I have a rpe Hawk do you sell clutches for the Chine bike
Great video! I've adjusted my free play and so on , my problem is pulling in the clutch won't disengage the clutch, bike doesn't creep forward but you can feel it's still engaged cos it's hard to push (when not running) lever pulled in . Just started into trail riding with kids problem bike is drz125L. Is the clutch needing replacement, hrs on bike unknown.
roadrunner_oo9 common causes are wrong/bad oil quality, warped discs, wrong clutch assembly, or something broken
Okipouros thanks I'll check it out!
roadrunner_oo9 notches in the clutch basket, take it off and file the edges that have notches and it will work just fine
Mike C took it apart and changed oil, seems all good and put back together , now fine. !?!
roadrunner_oo9 might’ve had some crap in the clutch and changing the oil helped
New friction and drive plates, bikes on stand in gear with clutch lever in, but rear wheel spins. Normal?
Yep. With the clutch lever pulled in, your clutch is disengaged, allowing your wheel to spin.
It's more like it's not fully disengaged for some reason. Like it's spinning under the engine power, but not as fast as when the clutch lever is all the way out in gear. Is it because the new plates build up more friction?
JT that could be possible. I’ve had my wheel spin slowly when my bike is in neutral. Have you checked your cable tension to make sure you slack is good?
Does it still do it after the bike has warmed up for a bit?
Rocky Mountain ATV MC thanks for replying! After a day of good riding it isn't doing it anymore. I did mess with the cable tension again to be sure. One way or the other looks like it's good to go! Thanks again!
We just changed the clutch plates in our 2018 crf250r and after we installed it the old clutch cable had to much play in it we adjusted all the way out and still to loose. So we got a new cable and still got the same issue way to much play In the clutch lever. We adjusted the new cable and still to much play. So what else could it be . We only instal both cluches plates and new cable. Its a 2018 crf250r any help would be appreciated 🙏
You would need to look at your service manual, but make sure you've got the clutch plates and steels installed in the correct order. Does your bike have a judder spring? If yes, did you remove and not put it back? I'd go back through it and double check everything is in correctly. - Chase
@@rmatvmc don't know what that is. But I installed the same as I took out each plate. Do u think it can be the clutch springs since I reuse the ones that was in the bike. I order some springs Friday from yal guys hoping that will help. Just got our tusk lift work stand from rocky mountain and loving that stand
I don't think it is your springs. Your Honda actually has three different part numbers for the friction plates and you need to make sure they're installed in the correct order. Look at the OEM diagram and make sure you've got it in the same order. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/oem-schematic/14
When I put my bike into 1st gear with the clutch in the bike just dies on me could this be the problem?
Check your nuetral safety switch on the clutch lever
My clutch started giving me problems, wouldn't disengage, replaced the springs, plates, needle bearing, bush, cleaned up the basket tabs, new cable, new oil, new clutch lever, new clutch release and still won't disengage spent nearly a grand, been like this for nine weeks now, pulling my hair out, and giving the lever some free play just makes the clutch drag even more
Your lifter may be worn
@@331moto Does that mean an engine/gear box strip down?
👍
Ohhhhhh! Nickel trick!
I thought you said something else.
Jeeze every 4 to 6 hours, holy crap.
4HOURS!!! Viagra last THAT long.🙄
filing your clutch is fine if you only do it once
mine was bad i filed it flat and after 10 hours it has barely made any marks on the basket my bike is a kx 125 though
@Egbert Wadman , doesn't effect power to the ground.
4-6 hours? Should I change my oil every 20 minutes and put a new battery in every week too?
Talk about some bs..
This is just a recommendation of how often you can/should INSPECT your clutch, NOT replace. Every rider is hard or easier of clutches.
4-6 hours, whoops
If only I could afford a basket. Then my bike would work.
You can always file down any notches on your basket if you're stuck, it's not ideal but your clutch will function as normal
4-6 hours?!
wtf 4-6hrs. christ
That is what I was wondering as well.... is that for a racing off road motorcycle? I have a DR650 with 3,000 miles....bet I'm more than 6 hours...
They are just trying to get you to buy a 800 clutch system. The first tip was great! After that tip it all went down hill.
He's just talking about inspecting them at that point. If they're still in good shape then throw them back in. Some riders are harder on clutches than others. I've seen riders burn up a clutch pretty quick.
Paul Jerse yea if your tomac of something
haha
4-6 hrs is a totally bullshit recommendation. Throw your bike off a cliff if it eats a set in 4-6 hrs. 250 hrs on my 500 exc 2012 and still working great! My 300 2017 lasts 100+ hrs. Otherwise a good vid.
Totally agreed. Had a 200 exc from early 2000's. Put over 100 hours on it on the original clutch and it was still fine.
Abuse that clutch. Show it no mercy.
Don't JUST replace your friction plates - replace your drive plates too. Oh, btw, we sell them!
🤦♂️
take apart your whole bike after 6 hours for maintenance reasons
I feel better about riding a dual sport now
Or get a KTM that doesnt have a clutch basket that is made of cheese
way I look at it is of it ain't broke don't fix it lol might be a bad way to look at it but oh well I guess I'm a dumbass lol
Let me just save you 13 minutes of your life. If you have ever used the clutch on your bike, then he basically recommends buying an entire new clutch system (from Rocky Mountain ATV) because yours is now worthless.
