      If you go by what parts stores and owners manuals say you should, you're rebuilding engines, suspensions, and everything else every ride (at least checking) or every 20 hours. 99% of us don't have mechanics working 5 hours on our bikes everytime the bike goes out for a 30 min ride ....
      I do what I can when I can and prioritize brakes, filters and fluids ....

      @Arnaud Pretto whats wrong with linkage. Jumps is more precise when hitting the top... And u have a better feel of the bike in the air allso more easy to stay on the foot pegs....
      My bike before had Front Suspension:
      ASO7RC USD Telescopic adjustable pre-load a
      compression, 490mm long, 48mm forks, 60mm
      Fork tubes, 290mm travel
      Rear Suspension:
      BS88RC Remote reservoir, adjustable pre-load & compression, 80mm travel.

    Good video and great reminder on those odd service items. Just my opinion, but I wouldn't ever use a pressure washer on a bike. You increase the chance push water into every point & electrical part that shouldn't have water, but you also push your grease & lube out of you bushings and chain. If a garden hose can't get it, use a soft brush.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  6 років тому +2

      Lawman, you must be the most patient man ever haha. I do use a pressure but I try to avoid those areas and keep more distance when i'm hitting bearing and pivot points, and electrical items. But that is the ideal way to do it, not doubt. Thanks for sharing!

    These new factory manuals are garbage though, the information in them are so vague its ridiculous. Thanks for the input, I'm guilty of not doing several of these. The rear linkage bearings are a must at least once a year. On my ktm 450sxf factory edition the bearings literally crumbled, rusted, and I had to buy a whole new linkage system. Can you make a maintenance video for people who don’t have pockets full of money. Pretty sure the average person doesn’t have all of this shit sitting around their house, so they’re really not jobs “any rider can do”. It’s more along the lines of “jobs riders with money to burn can do”.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  5 років тому +3

      Bearing grease- $7
      Fork oil- $10-20
      Cable luber- $18 cable lube - $15
      Silencer packing - $16.99
      Tusk Spoke torque wrench - $85
      Tusk Truing Stand - $69.99
      I understand that nothing is free and there are riders who can't buy everything all at once, but when compared to the price to replace or repair damaged parts, these items really aren't bad. Start with the jobs you know you need first and gradually work from there. We have how-to videos for each one of these items so you can do them from home and save money.

      There are a lot of variables to take into consideration but the Honda service manual recommends replacing the piston and rings every 3 races or about 7.5 hours. These are under race conditions and if you are doing easier riding this can definitely be extended. But remember, it's a lot cheaper to replace piston/rings than the whole bottom end or cylinder itself. You can also do a compression test and see where you're at. Nice CR by the way!

    Everything functions properly ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of UA-cam. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!

    Swingarm and linkage bearing maintainence is #1 most overlooked!! Don't wait till the bearings are rusted in place, clean and grease!! Also no pressure washer on motorycles!!

    How often should you repack your muffler?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  5 років тому +1

      It depends on the kind of riding you do and how your specific bike is running. But around 20 hours of riding is a good average time to check out your packing and it'll never hurt anything to re-pack it! There may be a service interval listed in your manual that you can go off of also.

    I did a rebuild of my gsx 750 es front shocks. The oil was 50% metal. Different oil levels. It came out in wrong order. Spacer rings were stuck, and new ones were too big cause of corrosion made clearance wrong. Absolutely no teflon on the rings. I still think I am supposed to be dead from that bike. The seller told me it was ready to ride. I learned that I don't trust anything until I see it with my own eyes on the bikes I ride. And neither should you.

    Do u always change the bearings or just take it out of the linkage clean and grease it again?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  6 років тому +8

      *Armin Sollfrank* That's a good question. If you're keeping up with your bike maintenance and greasing you can usually get by with a regreasing of the bearings. You shouldn't need to replace your linkage bearings unless they are showing signs of grooving in the needle bearing race, broken needle bearings or showing signs of rust and starting to seize up. Then you would want to replace them. You would just want to inspect them really close and see what kind of condition they're in. Hope this helps.

    selling a few parts are you why don't you show them how to do their cables correctly you have no contact cleaner you don't have any compressed air no gloves rubber gloves big hunk and rag because the crap goes everywhere once you apply a little bit of compressed air to flush them out multiple times with oil and the contact cleaner brings them back to new condition is good as they can be good effort I give you a name for trying to show a guy how to keep his bike in good condition but maybe you should go the extra mile and show him how to do it correctly but I realize this is a super short just touching base video without giving him any of the good secrets

    Actually a dirty air filter is filtering out more than a clean filter. Where the problem lies, is that it is affecting carburation(air to fuel ratio), whether carbed or fuel injected engine.
