Its so great to see these beautifully trained dogs in their element....and not stuffed into an apartment or back yard left to their own demise. People should engage with their dogs at least 2 hrs of everyday...A tired dog is a happy dog....Mushers already know who is favoured to win the race even before its starts, but there are so many deciding factors along the way that can change the outcome of the race 1000 times...
Jedidiah we agree, it is spectacular to see the dogs in their element. It was really a fun experience. We also strongly believe in well balanced pups, ours are aging but still love getting out outside :)
thank you for this upload , i have seen dog sledes on green land and it was amazing experience , my friends son moved to canada fort nelson to train sleade dogs,
I've been binging your entire catalogue while I work on my website and writing scripts (and waiting for the massive concrete pour for your new shop at the new cabin), and I must say that this is definitely the video that marks the turning point in Eric's editing! The shaky drone shifts are gone, the cam angles and changes are near seamless, and the volume on audio is perfected! Great job, to both of you, you have inspired me to take on my own "side hustle" and I'm learning a lot through watching you both learn, both in your daily lives and in your production. Concrete pour, let's go! ;)
This footage is awesome! I love the clip you got of Aliy Zirkle! Love her and Allen! Mushing was tied with photographing the lights as my ULTIMATE favorite hobbies in Alaska! I’m glad y’all got to see the restart!
Krystle Cox, Thank you! We absolutely loved the experience :) Still trying to see the lights, we get good glimpses of them but only once did we see a very good show, they are always special to see though.
Awesome guys!! This race is something that we’ve always wanted to have the opportunity to attend. Hasn’t happened yet though. Our cat thoroughly enjoyed watching it too!! Pic incoming on FB! LOL! Cheers!
Well that was exciting! Prayers to all the dogs and mushers for a safe journey. I would seriously like to know what kind of boots they use on the dogs.
Each musher must carry boots for their dogs/spares. some will carry up to 3000 pairs....I don't know anyone that doesn't have them made for their dogs...there are a variety of materials used but the most popular is cordura. This breed has whats called tight feet and their feet are very tough....
Jedidiah thank you. I do know that despite being very tough dogs boots are now the normal (which is awesome). Just curious what kind they were as pretty much every boot I have put on my dogs ,do not stay on very well.
The problem with most commercialised dog boots is they just don't fit correctly and the dogs feet slide inside and when they get wet the bottom pad gets heavy...Lightweight 330 cordura material is what you want to look for...one tightner at the top...and really tighten it ,it won't hurt your dog....shape is another issue....there is a company that makes them if I can find it I will let you know...
Bettina H., Jedidiah gave you some great info. Just figured I'd add we bought QUMY dog boots on Amazon for Bandit last year and we totally recommend them. He ran 12 miles the other day in them, we have not had issues with them coming off, they do pack in a little snow around the cuff but it doesn't seem to be a problem for him. When we didn't have these on him he would cut his feet.
Hi couldn't make it because I was sick, your video made me feel like I was there watching. Thank you so much. The way you two produce videos and your unique perspective is next level, great work! Yes bring your snow machine, errr hmmm someone mentioned that earlier ;) :)
KrypticPatriot, we're sorry to hear that! Thank you for the advice, there were less folks near the other end of the lake. Appreciate your kind words as well, wishing you a speedy recovery!
How do the dogs rest? what about their daily food and drink as racing miles? their vet care? their shelter? blankets? what are the rules regarding the dog care as some have died or be injured? Are they your dogs? prize money? checking of dogs by vet before the race, during the race and the end of the race? how do they rest at night? shelter? fire? lots of food? what happens after the race? checks of dog, rest?
Elf Lords Journeys, I believe it is common for dogs to "drop out" or not finish and I did just read they are not allowed to add dogs once the race has started. They do have to finish with the minimum amount which is 5. It's a long journey for sure but to see how much the dogs are loved was heartwarming.
16 -12 dogs are required to race....You will actually see some teams with only 12 dogs as all 12 are faster/stronger than a team that may have 2-3 slower dogs...And it's really a team effort, all the dogs are trained to perform certain functions in the mobility of the team...Many people think the lead dog is the only dog that needs to be smart and the strongest...not true, ex. the strongest dogs/wheel dogs closest to the sled(strongest and largest actually steer the sled...the swing dogs are behind the leader and help turn the sled...the lead dog is simply the leader and knows all the rules of the road so to speak/sets the pace etc..
Wow! That was really great. The videography was outstanding. Did you have to battle for air space with other drones? Didn't look like it. Thanks for sharing that and giving us a taste of the Iditarod. The cabin is about 40 degrees right now so I really felt like I was there with you guys. LOL! Time to fire up the wood stove.
Almost Homestead, Thank you! It really was a fun experience :) We actually did not need to compete with other drones, there was only 3 others in the sky!
Absolutely brilliant. The Iditarod is on my bucket list.
A lot of beautiful dogs.
I’m following and rooting for Jessie Holmes, rookie of the year 2018, who appears on Life Below Zero. I love his dedication to and care for his dogs.
Jessie is a cool guy! I got to know him when I lived in Alaska before life below zero!
We have read about him, we wish them all success!
Brilliant video, looks like those beautiful dogs love racing. Love Alaska. Thank you both. Xxx

Aliy and Allen are awesome people! Met them both in the late 90's and they are as friendly as folks get!
How close do they come to you home during the race?
Come to think of it, how far from the homestead to Willow?
JP Tuscon, AZ we are about 15 to 20 minutes from the lake where the race starts, our new property is just across the highway from there.
Dang! We were there too. Hate we missed y'all! I definitely saw your drone a few times, lol. Our vlog is going to post soon.
BozardsinAlaska, there were a few drones out that day :) Wish we met up, it was crazy fun to be there!
Great job filming!
What kind of dog boots do they where? I've tried several kinds, they come off.
Patricia Williams theirs do fall off occasionally I believe too, our dog wears these: amzn.to/36JOHDm
They are awesome!

Cool video
Super cool! Who do you think will win? Is it going to be one of the Seavey’s?
We are rooting for all of them! :)
Go Aliy!!!
Awesome ! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Do the same dogs start and finish the race?

So it's survival,of the fittest. Wow tough dogs.

@@AlmostHomestead we have the spark, the mavic takes even better...it also costs more :)
Simple Living Alaska Oh that’s right. You did say spark before. 😬😁
This is a great video and The music is kind of sad but it's a great video
Amanda Harris, thanks! I do think the staging area music gets a little sad, just trying to capture how much love there was for the pups :)
