    This video from Sears PartsDirect shows how to read the error code display on a vertical modular washer (VMW).
    Visit us at:
    www.searsparts...
    The vertical modular washer (VMW) has a self-diagnostic system to help you figure out the cause if something goes wrong with the washer. When a component in the washer fails, the washer stops working and the lid lock light flashes. The washer won’t work until the problem is corrected. If your washing machine isn’t working, you can access the error code display to find the source of the problem.
    1. Put the washer in diagnostic mode
    With the washer shut off and all indicator lights off, turn the control dial 1 complete rotation (360 degrees) counterclockwise.
    Quickly, within about 6 seconds, turn the control dial 3 clicks clockwise, one click back, and one more click clockwise. All the green status lights blink when you successfully activate the diagnostic mode.
    If the status lights don’t blink, turn the control dial one complete rotation counterclockwise to reset the control and then try again, this time turning the knob faster.
    To exit diagnostic mode, turn the washer off.
    2. Display the error code lights
    Turn the control dial 1 click clockwise. Press the Start button.
    Turn the control dial one click clockwise to display the first saved error code. The control displays up to 4 error codes.
    The error code flashes repeatedly until you turn the dial one click clockwise to show the next error code.
    Only the Sensing light flashes if no error code was recorded.
    3. Translate the error code lights
    Error codes for the VMW washers have two parts: The first is the letter “F” followed by a number and the second is the letter “E” followed by a number. Which lights are illuminated indicate the numbers.
    • The sensing light on indicates the letter “F”.
    • The sensing light off indicates “E”.
    • The “Wash” light stands for the number 8, Rinse = 4, Spin = 2 and Cycle Complete = 1.

    Hi Julie. Have you tried unplugging the washer? Try unplugging the washer for 5 minutes to reset the control board. Then plug it back in and see if it will enter test mode now. Hope this helps.

    This worked for a whirlpool! I got the code - and it was F5E2 and F5E2 - the lid lock itself. I took the lid lock apart (again), and put it back together, but this time right.

    Ordered parts for my washer. UPS said they handed off the package to USPS, USPS said the package wasn't in the container. UPS won't refund because they handed off the package, USPS won't refund because they were not the "original shipper". Finally talked to a Sears rep after days of sleuthing for a phone number to speak to an actual person. Person assured me that they would refund my credit card. It is 18 days later and I have neither the parts or the refund. Easily found abundant complaints online about my exact issue. Such poor service. Wish there wan an alternative to my house full of aging Kenmore appliances.

Here's a webpage that has an online copy of the owner's manual for that model: www.searspartsdirect.com/manual/5t5qimmdvx-000582/kenmore-11021102010-washer . It amazes me how they leave out essential info. Like toward the end she says to turn it off. Is there an on off button? All I see is a start pause button. Just checking the video out because I am looking into a used unit that has this diagnostic board installed. By the way does this diagnostic test operate like the Whirlpool units that actually fill,spin and drain during the process?

    • @searspartsdirect
      @searspartsdirect  6 років тому

      Some models have an on/off button. For the model shown in the video, press and hold the Start/Pause button for 3 seconds to turn off the washer. The diagnostic test mode in this washer does have an automatic test that checks major washer functions. After entering the diagnostic test mode as shown in the video, rotate the cycle selector knob until the Spin LED lights up then press Start. The control will cycle through all washer functions check component operations. Press and hold the Start/Pause button to exit the diagnostic test mode at any time. If you need more help, let us know.

    I have 4 codes. Not sure which one is the actual problem. F2-E1= interface control, F5-E1= lid switch fault, F1-E2= Drive Motor/Main Control Board and F7-E5=Actualtor. Any thoughts? I would imagine the main control board would indicate multiple issues.

    Washing sheets I have an "OE" error code. I adjusted the sheets thinking it was an out-of-balance code but quickly stopped and gave the code again. tried resetting 2 more times and with the same result. I removed the sheets and tried to run the machine while it was empty to remove the water that was in the bottom of the machine and once again it did not spin and the water was not removed. It also displayed the OE again. This is the model without an agitator

      Check the suspension rods for damage or for a disconnected rod. Here's a link for an illustrated repair guide/video that shows how to lift the top panel of the washer: www.searspartsdirect.com/diy/repair-guide/how-to-replace-the-spin-basket-in-a-top-load-washer . Reconnect or replace any damaged or disconnected suspension rods. If the suspension rods are okay, then the spin bearing in the washer may be bad. You'll need a service technician to repair that type of failure. We hope this information helps. If you need further assistance, let us know.

      Your washer has a plastic bezel that covers the opening for the lid lock on the top washer panel. Here’s a link that has a photo of that plastic bezel: www.searspartsdirect.com/part-number/WPW10392041/0026/110.html Make sure that plastic bezel is centered over the opening to the door lock on the top washer panel. If that plastic bezel isn’t centered over the opening, then the washer may not lock properly and the cycle won’t start. If the bezel is centered over the opening and the washer still won’t start, then running the diagnostic test will likely point you in the direction of the failure that is preventing the washer from starting. If you need more help, let us know (include details about any error codes that you find while running the diagnostic test).

      Unplug the washer for 5 minutes to reset the electronic control board. If the drain pump runs as soon as you plug the washer back in, leave the washer plugged in and let the drain pump run for 5 to 7 minutes until it stops. You should then be able to enter the diagnostic test mode. If not, then you may need to replace the electronic control board. I recommend that you have a service technician examine and repair the washer if you can’t enter the diagnostic test mode.

      Unplug the washer and check the wiring connections on the control board inside the console. Loose wiring connections could be preventing the washer from starting. If all wiring connections are okay, then a bad lid lock could be preventing the washer from starting on some models. Plug the washer in and leave it plugged in for 7 minutes. If the washer didn’t drain properly, then the control will run the drain pump continuously for 7 minutes to drain water out of the washer. After 7 minutes, the control may allow you to enter the diagnostic test mode and recall error codes. If not, then you may need to replace the electronic control board. Here’s a video that shows you how: www.searspartsdirect.com/repair-guide/washer/how-to-replace-the-electronic-control-board-on-a-top-load-washer.html.

    • @searspartsdirect
      @searspartsdirect  7 років тому

      The flashing sensing light indicates that no error codes were recorded. The lid switch or lock switch on the lid lock/switch assembly may have failed even though the lid locks. The control won’t start the cycle if it detects that the lid is open or unlocked on many models.
      We recommend that you have a service technician examine and repair the washer. You can schedule service here: www.searshomeservices.com/.

      Thanks for posting that video with the error codes. The F2 E1 code indicates a stuck key and was probably caused by holding a button down too long. The F0 E2 indicates excessive suds, which probably got resolved already. We’ll ignore those two codes because they probably don’t indicate the cause of your spin failure. The F7 E1 and F7 E7 indicate that the control isn’t detecting proper drive motor rotation (likely because the motor isn’t running). Unplug the washer and check the wire harness connection on the drive motor and the motor capacitor. Here’s a video that shows how to access and remove the drive motor: ua-cam.com/video/sgRsPQJQt7g/v-deo.html. Reconnect any loose wires. This may fix your problem. If not, you may need to replace the shifter assembly that detects motor spin. The drive motor or electronic control board could also be broken.

      BluesLicks101 I actually got it to work. I just started with spinning it to the left, preferably at least one full counter-clockwise turn. Then right, right, right, left, right. But the speed required isn’t extremely fast. It’s actually quite slow and casual. If anyone else has trouble with it, try slowing it down a tad. Give a half second paused on each click of the dial. Right, pause, right, pause, right, pause, left, pause, right.

    I'm getting a code that does not exist in the diagnostics code booklet.
    F5F7
    1st flashing code: Sensing On=F, Rinse=4, Done=1, ads up to F5
    2nd flashing code: Sensing On=F, Rinse=4, Spin=2, Done=1 adds up to F7
    That combo does not exist, I really hate the faulty and inferior technology of today.
    If you bought a washer in 1978 it would last decades. Your lucky if you get 7 years on an appliance today. I've' seen major failures in 3 years, and 1% are defective right off the assembly line. You can't trust any one popular brand over another, they all use the same imported inferior technology. I wouldn't mind so much if the manufacturers would bring the prices down to the quality that goes into them, Like $50 for a new washer is about right, then I wouldn't mind so much if I had to buy a new one every year... Lol, Jokers.

      +K Zpodindustries Blame the government.. If you voted for the current administration, you're part of the problem... If it wasn't for the Government in the public sector, we would still have old designs that worked flawlessly and toilets that flushed everything down.. We have supposed "green" technology that was mandated by Obama and his minions but nothing that the Government does in the public sector works..

      Chad Schloss
      During the 1930s depression people were pleading with Roosevelt, "Please help us, we are losing our farms". The government was never supposed to be involved in such affairs, but Roosevelt used government money to create a massive road and bridge building projects that got Americans working again, he began to regulate businesses and incorporate workers rights, Roosevelt was called a communist for regulating how businesses treated employees.
      Roosevelt successfully pulled the US out of the depression, so Roosevelt then slowly began to pull back on the government created jobs, but the economy began to slip back into a depression, so ever since the government has always been there to tweak the economy to keep people working, we cannot sustain ourselves without assistance, without such assistance and social programs then you have the African model, the extreme wealthy, the extreme poor, and with no social programs then you have orphaned children living wherever they can sleep and constantly begging for food and money.
      The government works side by side with the corporations to the point that the corporations actually manipulate and control all governmental operations. If people are working then they are generally calm and generates the flow of tax dollars, when people are not working in mass they are angered will riot and destroy everything to the point of implosion if allowed to do so. It's within everybodies interest to keep people employed at all costs. I could also go into detail explaining that who you vote for does not matter, it's all manipulated and controlled internally to the point that you have the illusion that your vote matters... but very few are interested in knowing any of that, simply because the truth of it all is far more difficult to handle than believing the lie that you and I actually have control over our government, we lost that control over 100 years ago. The information is there if you actually care to know... most don't want to know.

    I got a F7 E1

    • @searspartsdirect
      @searspartsdirect  4 роки тому

      The F7 E1 code indicates the control board isn't getting proper tachometer signals from the speed sensor on the shifter assembly. See if the spin basket rotates freely. If not, then examine and replace any defective drive components. If the basket spins properly, unplug the washer and check the wiring connections on the shifter assembly. That component has the optical tachometer. If the wiring connections are okay, then that shifter will usually need to be replaced. Here's a video that shows how to replace the shifter assembly: www.searspartsdirect.com/diy/repair-guide/how-to-replace-the-shifter-assembly-in-a-top-load-washer . We hope this information helps. If you need further assistance, let us know the model number of your washer and give us additional details about the problems you're seeing.

      You’re likely hearing the drain pump running as soon as you plug in the washer. An item may be stuck in the drain pump if the noise is loud. Here’s a video that shows how to remove and replace the drain pump:
      ua-cam.com/video/XnR42xJSY-0/v-deo.html
      Remove the drain pump and check for an item stuck inside. Replace the drain pump if it’s damaged. If the noise isn’t loud, plug in the washer and allow the drain pump to run. It will run for about 5 minutes and then stop without damaging the drain pump or other components. The control detected a long drain or overflow condition so it runs the drain pump for about 5 minutes to drain water out of the washer. After the drain pump stops, you can read the error codes as shown in this video to determine the cause of the problem and fix it.
