Screw all this diagnostic testing. Something so simple took me all day to troubleshoot. Hit like if it worked. I had mine stuck in sensing mode. Try this if just hot works.
Yes you are absolutely correct. However if your valve solenoid is burned out like mine was cleaning the cold water valve screen won't do anything. So testing it is not that bad an idea. But yes, it is advisable to just take a look at the filter first (I actually gave this advice to someone in the comments a few days ago).
@justabri2944 no. It should NOT be plugged in when you are testing for resistance of the valves. Also, a visual inspection of the valve solenoids can be helpful. If you see any cracked solenoids the valve is bad.
I had the issue it would sense then a quick hum then it would quit but stay in sense mode. I replaced actuator and still ddid this. Hi @DuctTapeMechanic I have a Kenmore 110.21392013 and I replaced the water inlet valve on it after it leaking disasterously all over my floor during washing. Now, it is stuck in sensing mode, not unlike this. It does start to fill with water, but it never progresses into the actual "wash" cycle or goes any futher than that. Since you seem to have a lot of experience fixing various issues with washers, I was wondering: any insight on what else is wrong or where I could start? It's confusing to me, because this is a new issue.
use Roma powder detergent which contains dry bleach, it will not damage your clothes, instead will clean them more and will keep your machine smell fresh and will keep mildew away.
Got a minor issue with my washer I can't figure out. Auto sensing and deep water wash are backwards. Set it on auto sense and it deep water washes, set it on deep water wash and it auto senses. The washer isn't that old, going on 3 years since I bought it and it didn't use to do that, only discovered it a few months ago. I've done everything from reset to auto calibration, every little diagnosis it offers and it still has this issue. I've checked wiring, the mainboard, switches, ect ect and can't find one problem. Not like I can't deal with it, there is obviously a work around setting the switch to do the opposite of what it shows, I'd just like to know why the heck it does it.
Just search Amazon for whirlpool washer inlet valves (just make sure it has the sams plug as your old one). Whirlpool, maytag, and kenmore are the same company
Seems like the exact problem I have. Time to get the meter out and test it. Preliminary test is going to do a hot only and a cold only test but I suspect if one is bad the computer will just detect a fault regardless. Time to get my meter involved. I hope this fixes it :) I'm at my with end and was considering kicking it to the curb and incurring a cost I'm not prepared for. Currently it goes to wash from sensing but doesn't do anything after that but display the wash light after it drains my water and detergent. This sucks.
@@dan9809 I fixed it for $28. Got my meter out and started with suspect parts. Turns out it was the intake valves. The solenoids on both sides were cooked. When I put it all back together and hit the start button the sound was magical music to my ears! My wife has bad knees so I don't let her go to the basement so the laundry is all mine to do. I have a new found love of washing clothes now that it has been fixed! (JK I still hate doing laundry :) )
My kenmore washer makes a knocking sound while sensing mode and then it stops. Any suggestions on what the problem with be. Your video doesn't show the 3rd option.
I would say if you can hear the lid lock and have tested the valves like in the video and still its stuck in sensing, I would try replacing the shifter actuator it's only like $30 plus it's easy to change.
What you need to do is tilt the entire washer backward and lie down to access the under portion of the Series 500 - and change the the Synchronous Shift Actuator - $30 part.
Before you test the valve check if the filters are clogged. This happens quit often is and is easy to fix. Just shut the water take off the hoses and check the 2 plastic filters in the hot and cold.
Should I purchase this machine used (said to be in excellent condition) or purchase a new Conservator with a 1 year warranty? Im on a very tight budget.
All depends on how much you are getting the used machine for. Also, when buying used, I recommend getting it from a used washer seller, not just a random person who is selling their unwanted washer (as they often are not aware of hidden issues)
I just bought a new whirlpool washing machine (Lowes). It fills up with water (in sensing mode), then stops and you can hear dripping, then starts filling back up again. It gets stuck doing this for hours (of course I turn it off before hours). This is the 2nd machine as the first was stuck in sensing mode as well. Is this normal? any ideas?
I'm having this issue with the 300 series but the water is going in for a few seconds but remains on sensing. The Drain/spin and Rinse/spin cycle s do work but all others stuck on sensing.
Why did you raise the top instead of sliding tool under the control panel to release those clips? Then you just roll the panel back to get to the valves and controls.
I have a whirlpool top load washer and non of the leds light up but when I plug up to power it goes straight into drain mode that’s all it does nothing else. Please help me out thanks
Let the drain pump drain for a few minutes if it does not stop then most likely you need a new control board. If it stops draining then try starting a load
I'm desperate for your help sir. I've checked both my old and new inlet valves and both are reading zero continuity. I've checked the voltage on the power line to the washer. It's reading 122. However, I installed the new inlet valves. It still takes too long for the washer to fill up with water. During the sensing monde it fills with water, but does spin the clothing to sense how much water is need for the load size. Once it fills with water it drains it right away. It stays in sensing mode afterwards. I've replaced the shift actuator as well. It performs good during the automatic test mode, but not during a wash cycle. It's still throwing a code for long fill. I've hooked another washer up to the same water supply. It fills with water fine. Therefore I know it's not the water pressure. Can you please point me in the right direction?
@Twerp70 seems like there is an issue with the pressure hose/pressure sensor. Make sure that the hose is connected on both ends. If it is loose, just clip an inch off of the loose end.
Thanks brother. I'll try that. I pulled it off the control board and blew through it, so i know it's not clogged. I could hear the air coming through it. I'll let you know if that works. Also, shall I connect a water supply to the hot side? I have the hot side capped. One time I used a split to connect the hoses to both valve. However, i got the same results. Should connect both valves to two different water sources to create more pressure for the valves to operate correctly?
@@munozgaming3016 you will probably need new suspension rods for it in the next year or so but after that I would keep it as long as possible new machines are expensive right now
What is the best way to fill it, Mine keeps jumping across my garage and I have to jump on it like it's a mechanical bull 🐂. Then hit the pause button to stop it and start over.
Most likely, you have bad suspension rods. Just search from a reputable online appliance part store by model number, and you should find the rods your machine requires. If your machine still bounces around after replacing the rods, then the inner tub is stripped, and the machine is beyond reasonable repair.
Great video! I have the same washer and I need to buy a replacement valve like the one you bought. Can you tell me where you purchased? The ones I am seeing are all $55 or more. Thank you
Unfortunately due to inflation they are all probably around $50 for the part now (still better then a repair guy or a new machine). I recommend just searching the part number on Amazon.
I have a Maytag that's stuck in the Sensing mode. It was working fine when I started to wash clothes on Sunday. I went out to walk my dog when I got back I heard a buzzing sound coming from the washer and it was stuck on the final rinse cycle. I tried the power/reset button to have to washer drain itself but it got stuck in the sensing mode with a buzzing. I unplugged the power and when I plugged it back in, I got the same result. The sound seems to be coming from the water valve area, so I'm thinking that it went bad. I've only had this washer for 4 years and its a shame that this happened so just a few years after getting it and the extended warranty expired.
Well I replaced the water valve and it still senses light still flashes and I still here the buzzing sound so it's not the water valve. I believe it to be the The drainage pump. And that something that I will not try to get or replace.
hey buddy i have a question, is the kenmore control board the same as the whirlpool one? I need to buy one but I can't really find it other than a similar one but it's whirlpool and a different board #.
My MayTag also got stuck in sensing mode due to a frozen inlet pipe. Apparently it is expecting water to come in and somehow uses that to figure out how many clothes are in the drum. It warmed up the next day and then it ran fine.
@@DuctTapeMechanic Glad the pipe didn't burst. Plumbing was in an exterior wall and it was 10F for several days. No way to drip it that I know of like I did on kitchen and bathroom faucets. What cold weather precautions should be taken with a washer ?

use Roma powder detergent which contains dry bleach, it will not damage your clothes, instead will clean them more and will keep your machine smell fresh and will keep mildew away.
What about it not agitating during wash cycle? Is that a belt issue??🤪
Most likely it's an issue with the mode shifter. Does it spin ok?
Can you do a video on how to remove the middle part to remove things that fell inside?
That is a wonderful idea! Actually have a machine sitting right now that would serve as an great example.
That video would also help me!!
Where did u order the new vavle system from
Amazon/eBay would both be good sources just search by the part number on the old valve
Great video. Just ordered my part.
Where can I find the part, I have the same washer. Thanks.
Check the belt and the actuator
@@wylykyotys My problem turned out to be the hot and cold water mixing solenoid unit. Works great now.
Did you have to reset or recalibrate the washer after installing the new part? If so please explain the procedure. Thanks
No recalibration needed!
How to reset?
I assume this applies to the Cabrio to?
Yes most likely, Kenmore is manufactured by whirlpool.
My kenmore washer makes a knocking sound while sensing mode and then it stops. Any suggestions on what the problem with be. Your video doesn't show the 3rd option.
How would you be able to know if it's the actuator that's bad?
I would say if you can hear the lid lock and have tested the valves like in the video and still its stuck in sensing, I would try replacing the shifter actuator it's only like $30 plus it's easy to change.
How much for valve replacement?
What size are those three srews?
What you need to do is tilt the entire washer backward and lie down to access the under portion of the Series 500 - and change the the Synchronous Shift Actuator - $30 part.
Yes the actuators on these fail often
hi, where did you get your Shift Actuator for $30? Thanks!
@@cindylin4509 The Repair guy - listed it on the bill for that amount.
Changed mine today..still have the same problem, no wash, no spin.
Before you test the valve check if the filters are clogged. This happens quit often is and is easy to fix. Just shut the water take off the hoses and check the 2 plastic filters in the hot and cold.
Absolutely a good thing to do first!
Same here, my valves both read open but since the cold water intake screen was totally clogged i cleaned it and it's been working since
Howd you clean the filters
Is this normal? any ideas?
Follow up. Whirlpool is having a person cone by and fix
@@lofficer11Did they fix it and if so what what was it please
I'm having this issue with the 300 series but the water is going in for a few seconds but remains on sensing. The Drain/spin and Rinse/spin cycle s do work but all others stuck on sensing.
Why did you raise the top instead of sliding tool under the control panel to release those clips? Then you just roll the panel back to get to the valves and controls.
True but if you have to replace it you have to open the top anyway
If you close the hot and cold water first, bumping the pressure hose will cause you less of a water problem.
I have the same washer. just over a year old and it wont agitate. I just hear a buz buz buz during the agitation cycle. any ideas what may be wrong?
Does it proceed to the spin cycle ok?
@@DuctTapeMechanic yes the spin cycle is great.
My washer has the lid locked light on and won't let me open it. Is there anything I can do
Trying pulling the plug and reseting it after a couple minutes.
@@DuctTapeMechanic it worked thank you. It's about 7 years old do you think I should start getting a new one soon.
@@munozgaming3016 you will probably need new suspension rods for it in the next year or so but after that I would keep it as long as possible new machines are expensive right now
@@DuctTapeMechanic alrighty boss
What screw driver sizes are you using to remove the back panel and inside the washer?
They are 1/4 inch hex screws in the back and I believe T-15 ( aka star head screws) on the water valve
I have that same model, how do you reset the system ?
Unplugging it for 10 minutes should do the trick. There is also a way to reset all the codes in diagnostics mode
I set up My multimeter in 20k and my screen show me 1.04. It’s ok this resistance. ??
i have the same washer and mine is stuck on rinse and keeps filling up with water. could this part be the same issue? tia
Sometimes the valves can get clogged as well. Perhaps unhook the water lines and see if the inlets are clogged
@@DuctTapeMechanic I'll check tomorrow. Thanks for the info also I have the new valve part coming Saturday so if anything I'll replace it.
A lot of parts are interchangeable but the control board do have to be the same part number
Damm , oh ok thank you buddy, yeah it’s a kenmore serie 100 , and I couldn’t find the board
I had that issue. I did the open and close the lid 6 times. That worked 2x before. Now, it's stuck in rinse cycle. Any idea what it could be?
Most likely the shifter is bad
@DuctTape Mechanic Thanks for quick response
@DuctTape Mechanic what is a shifter?
My MayTag also got stuck in sensing mode due to a frozen inlet pipe. Apparently it is expecting water to come in and somehow uses that to figure out how many clothes are in the drum. It warmed up the next day and then it ran fine.
Wow thats new. Glad it worked itself out
@@DuctTapeMechanic Glad the pipe didn't burst. Plumbing was in an exterior wall and it was 10F for several days. No way to drip it that I know of like I did on kitchen and bathroom faucets. What cold weather precautions should be taken with a washer ?
I have the same washer I replaced the valves and getting no codes. Hot side works. When cold is starting it hums but if I turn off and back on cold water supply it will work but I have to keep doing that throughout the wash. Any ideas? Thanks
I think perhaps your valves are getting stuck. It might be a good idea to replace them. They are not that expensive on Amazon
Thanks for the reply I will try that next.
Probably stupid question but I dont know what Im doing so I will ask. When testing with the meter does the washing machine have to be plugged in?
Do not plug in the machine when testing it! Safely first
Brilliant video!
Thank you!
My valves go 1.07 and 1.06. Is that a good reading?
That should be ok!
Hi! Mine isn’t rinsing well anymore. What should I try at this point ????? Please! Thank you
Is it not filling with water? It could be the valves are clogged
@@DuctTapeMechanic it fills with water but it wasn’t spinning it out of the clothes. Sooo I did some trouble shooting and video searching and found the issue! my kenmore series 100 is stuck on the spin cycle and will not come out of spin the lid locks and it will spin and can not go into diagnose mode at all and checked valve assembly , and thats fine help!!!!!

Ebay. Just put the old part number in the search

Is it making make loud noises? Also check for clogs in the drain pump/hoses
@@DuctTapeMechanic No loud noises. I will check for clogs in th drain pump. Thanks for your help.
Could that be the cause of the control center knob to become confused, thinking its in a different mode than it set on???
Wow just bought this exact washer on craigslist. Will not leave sensing mode....
Also make sure you have the water valves turned on
How can i find the piece? Whats the name? I have that problem

Does you machine begin to agitate? It sounds like it's not agitating, it could be the mode shifter. Check out my video on how to replace that (it's my latest video)
I've already done this and it's still not working. Can you please show the other 2 things you said it could be.
I would say the mode shifter is the second most likely reason for this issue but hard to tell without actually seeing the washer
I have a Kenmore HE washer, model 110.28002011. I've looked and looked and can't seem to find how to put this specific model into diagnostic mode. Can you help with that info? Thanks.
There's a manual taped to the inside the front of the washer. Complete instruction and diagnostic interpretation.
These new model washing machines sucks
These new models sure do suck. Damn government EPA low-life slime that makes all the rules through the "Federal Register."
I’m just hand washing my clothes after my piece of shit washer only lasted a year.. feel like my clothes come out cleaner anyways
Just like cars, electronics and plastics have been taken WAY to far!!! They have been turned into junk.
Wish I could find a old school washer in good shape
True!
I run the test and at the end only shows a sensing light on, what that means
Did you have to calibrate it?
No calibration needed. Just plug and play!
My question as well.
Thxs for sharing
You welcome
Pleas help me! My washer has coins stuck between the agitator plate !!
Can you see the coins? If so I like to use a slim screwdriver to get them out or even a razor blade. If you can see them you will have to remove the agitator plate to get them out.
I have the exact washer and it is stuck on sensing mode but when I switch it to drain and spin, I can smell burning. Any ideas? I’m going to swap out the water valves like you did but any idea on the burning smell?
Burning is strange for sure...if it's not filling with water I would definitely test the valves first
@@DuctTapeMechanic I will update once I replace the valves. Thanks.
The water valve inlet was replaced along with the actuator under the washer. I recalibrated the washer and the washer worked for one deep wash cycle but now it’s stuck on sensing mode again.
I have. A ge washer gtw540asp1ws. It sprays water twice when put in cycle and then stops. Suggestion
I wish you could have given a part number pleaser because this is really a pain . There’s so many of these valve with different plugs
They may have different plugs but the plugs can be taken off your old one and put on the new one. Also your old one should have a part number on it

Yeah I will never buy an energy efficient washer machine again !!! My washer keeps blinking lid close
Unfortunately they are all HE machines now. The best way to go is get a used older style whirlpool/kenmore washer (look for what's called a direct driver washer)

@@ashajeremiahqw8775 Facebook marketplace has a lot of them. I often pick them up for free and repair them. The more popular ones are the Kenmore 90 series washers. Should cost around $150 to $250 for a good working one that will last a long time.
Yep I bought a Whirlpool during COVID i had no choice in buying it to replace my old Whirlpool that was 15 years old and gave me trouble free service. these new High efficiency machines with the recalibration modes are in my opinion a POS you spend more time replacing flimsy parts and recalibrating it then washing clothes thanks to the engineers at Whirlpool washing your clothes went from a simple process to complicated unreliable one my next machine is going to be an LG
