    So many people have observed that Barbra has never looked lovelier than she is looking right now. She herself has said she felt she had grown into her face. I think the world also has grown into her face. Her singing on this tour is absolutely thrilling, full of wisdom and tenderness. I do question writers who describe her as a "queenly" presence. I think she as firmly planted in the earth as a human can be.

      Barbra has had Nose Surgery, which is obvious. She's had Fillers in her Face. Her face is now Swollen. And she's had "neck work" done..... Stop with the Barbra "fantasies"

    I love your comment. i was 25 rows back and so grateful that through my camera I was able to see her human-ness. If that is a word. I was so struck by the fact that she was just a beautiful human being with an incredible gift. I felt like she was right in front of me just singing from her heart and soul. It was an amazing experience.

    Piero is amazing. Even when he sings baratone you can hear his deep voice among the others. I don't think he truly understands how amazing his vocal range is. And for those news reporters who had negative things to say about Barbara, are they kidding me???# 70 years old... She is freakin AWESOME!!!

    I take nothing away from Piero or Ignazio but even though the video does not show it clearly at first it was, indeed, Gianluca that started this song (after Barbra) in the second verse. Once again, he was incredible ! Just watch after Barbra's verse where she eventually looks. Also, listen to the Gianluca sound. Again, Piero and Ignazio are very fine indeed.

    Sunny - curious about your music background. the comment "just to be clear" makes me think a music teacher. If that is so welcome to the club - 42 years here. I made no comment about range terms. I was just calling attention to which one of the boys was the first to sing after Barbra. I hope we are on the same team: Il Volo is the right kind of singing we need today to counter the lower quality singing that seems to dominate. We need to really support it and these young men.

  • @christinesforza8600
    @christinesforza8600 5 років тому

    Her style is great. She sings with understanding and appreciation for the spirit of the song, its sincerity, but I prefer a simpler rendition of this particular song from L. Bernstein's Candide. Is that Chris Boti on trumpet? Mesmerizing tone and richness.

    It is human nature for everyone to have their favorite, however, experienced vocal coaches would no doubt have a difficult time rating them anything but dead even talent. Neither of their voices is better than the other, and yes, I too have a favorite. Spaghettigirl got it right when she wrote baritone, GianLuca, spinto tenor, Piero, and lyric tenor, Ignazio. Just to be clear, a spinto tenor is a voice with a tenor range and a baritone's tone color, e.g. Piero sings baritone.

    I hope she releases one of the tracks that she did of this song when she was recording Back To Broadway. She sings more of the song there and she's not dragged down by the dreadful constricted singing of Il Volo .

  • @salumbre365

    She is great, she was one of the greatest belters, she could drown a whole orchestra. Her instrument is not what it used to be, yet she refuses to see it, and thus here she is outshone and outsung by everyone around her. I wish she sang stuff that better fit the beautiful voice she still has.

    • @blanchefan
      @blanchefan 2 роки тому +1

      Well I wouldn't exactly say she was outsung--ha. She may not be 22 anymore, but that magical instrument is still there--in spades. :)

    This woman is such a hypocrite She talks about her concern for the planet, how we have to watch our footprint and that we should "learn to go back to what is simple." This from a someone whose Malibu estate is comprised of several estates put together, someone who has her own private mall with shops in the basement of her home, someone who takes private jets instead of commercial planes which would cut down on carbon emmissions, etc. What a joke!

    Agree on the speech ... she really puts the audience through purgatory before the singing starts. The men outshine her too which is something Babs never allowed when she was younger. And that awful witch outfit ... of course there are some great notes but the greatest actually belonged to the tenor who sang the same note as her which means he's singing an octave higher than he should be expected to.

      cka2nd, if you know the original, you would see what I'm saying.

    • @cka2nd
      @cka2nd 5 років тому

      Oh, I am very familiar with Robert Rounseville's original, I've listened to it dozens if not hundreds of times. I think Babs adapted the song for herself without trying to directly replicate it, and certainly without trying to directly match Rounseville's voice. By the way, if you love the song as much as I do, search UA-cam for the three versions of it sung by Alfred Mendez, a recent graduate of New York's LaGuardia School of the Arts. He's a baritone, not a tenor, but really does a lovely job with the song, every time, although I think his best duet partner is the one from his high school graduation.

    • @gregghanson6095
      @gregghanson6095 5 років тому

      ckaa2nd, thanks for the response! I'm a huge Streisand fan, but I do think she has been known to over reach. Remember the Classical Barbra album?! I'm a classical musician and retired music prof, so....

    • @cka2nd
      @cka2nd 5 років тому

      @@gregghanson6095, she's got a few more versions of this on UA-cam which I want to check out, some just excerpts with long notes, at least one other live performance, and an unreleased take, I assume from one of her Broadway albums. Have you listened to any of them? Also - and I apologize for the missionary complex that I sometimes exude - I'd love to hear your take on young Mr. Mendez's work, if you can stomach listening to another student in your retirement.
