I’m glad Tommy checked Roman on babbling without knowing what he’s talking about. Volvo is premium. They build exquisite luxury products.
Compare this to Tesla model Y is the biggest insult to Volvo
Is it though? Its in that small 2 row 50kish cuv class, same with rav4/highlander, tucson, etc that all are pushing electrified ev/hybrid powertrains catering to the small suv market.
8:56Sensei tommy. Love it thanks bro. You have grown up tremendously I have seen the change in you and Roman is blessed
I've had this vehicle on my radar for a while! Definitely worth the price point considering you don't have to worry about running out of battery!! Just don't quite want to get rid of my current Volvo
I agree with Tommy. It's way better built than anything made in the US and has an expensive and damn good power train. It might be a bit compact for chunky Americans, but it's still a decent sized vehicle.
Would love to hear Roman's opinion on the value comparison of this XC 60 vs the Crown Signia. And yes, we are empty nesters.
Roman is being a bit ridiculous again. Tesla is known for poor interior materials/quality and Volvo is known for excellent interior materials/quality. $76k is way too much for that car, but please don't compare this to a Tesla and certainly not to a Ford.
If tesla was so bad why are they the the #1 selling ev? And the Y was the best selling car in the world 2023
@@javiercastro4561because they were intensely first to market on a mass scale and were heavily subsidized by the US gov at the beginning.
It’s VERY clear that they have one of the worst quality scores in the entire industry. Look it up. There is a lot to love on the front Tesla front but we also can recognize they have really bad quality issues and to fix the problems ……. Thousands
Volvos are really terrible quality wise. Literally nearly the bottom of the list (with Tesla) lol. The perfect comparison. They are made for eachother. Both Look pretty but the guys are terrible
Roger has never stepped
Foot in a Tesla. He has no idea what he’s talking about. Move along…
@@javiercastro4561if you’ve ever driven a new EV that wasn’t a Tesla you’d see why Tesla is quickly losing market share to older manufacturers. Hyundai, Chevy, and even BMW already have far superior EV models to anything Tesla offers.
@etteyafed no bmw since I still have ptsd from working on my 335. But I have driven most of the rest when getting ready to buy my new car. tesla was just a much better in most regards and was a better priced car. It did take a week or 2 to get used to the minimalist interior.
But with my Y performance I can safely take my family of 4 and all our luggage easly, it's a blast to drive in the NC mountains. And it tows our boat no problem. Not many cars are so versatile. Lastly the supercharging network works so easily and it's reliable
I'm waiting for mine, I'm anxious... Expensive? With the Volvo discount and the tax discount for PHEV cars that my country gives, I will pay €51,000... Is it expensive?? I don't think so... The X3 and the GLC would cost me, with the same characteristics and power, €90,000...yes, you heard me right, €90,000... Almost double... because in addition to not offering discounts, they exceed the limit and do not qualify for my country's discount for PHEV cars...
It's well over €100k in my country 😢
Volvo, they’re boxy, but they’re good.
The first time i watched your video. I love the contrasting point of view. Yhe father and son conversation like this is quite refreshing. I think Volvo is a luxury car view on a Swedish perspective. I am sold with their minimalistic approach, but still find it a bit on the expensive side. Great review!!
Roman, once again you're wrong. It's a premium vehicle which calls for a premium price. Plug-in hybrids like the Volvo Recharge lineup, the Jeep 4xe lineup and the Toyota Prime lineup are the way to go. Especially over full electric vehicles.
Love the format and the debate.
I've not driven one of these, but they seem very nice. I'd like to purchase one.. but I just can't justify the price. Same exact reason I've not purchased a fully electric vehicle either..
For that price I would want more BEV range, 80 km should be the magic number for PHEV/EREV since it will give plenty of winter range also. Anything less than that shouldn't be able to get a rebate or tax break. I mean if a ten year old Chevy EREV can still do it (gen 2 Volts still have some of the least degradation per battery usage), why can't a modern Volvo.
Excellent review
Cross shopping a Volvo with a Ford Explorer, come on Roman !!!
I don’t think he is saying they are similar, his point was what can you get for way less money or as he eluded to the same money as a nice Tahoe/expedition.
You probably don’t know that the Volvo SUVs came about because they were owned by Ford for a while. People in our age still associate the two.
@@adofoi30no they do not, stop it. Volvo was part of Fords Premium auto group. Volvo, Jaguar Aston Martin, Land Rover. Ford used Volvos technology to build better vehicles. Volvo is premium.
Teslas are not premium/luxury cars. Can't compare Teslas with premium european brands.
Tesla is in FACT classified as a premium brand and the model 3s most common conquest trade in for multiple year's is a BMW 3 series! 😀👍🏻
They are really more of a fast sports car as opposed to a luxury brand,
I think a lot depends on your definition of premium / luxury. Tesla's minimalist interiors are never going to be considered 'luxury' by someone who wants real leather and lots of buttons. If you compare functionality, performance, and ride experience, particularly in the S and updated M3, I think they compare well. I am 'old', and my 2018 M3 was the best car that I have ever had in 50+ years of driving and the only one I kept for over 3 years, even with its introductory issues. My 2024 M3 is significantly more refined and even better that my 2018. To each their own......
Want to go broke? Buy a used large BMW
It’s all choices. With this you get to drive electric most of the time and you have a lot of horsepower when your want it. Efficiency is just so so. My Rav4 prime has more EV range, much better efficiency and it costs a lot less. It has good horsepower but this Volvo has a lot more in hybrid mode. You aren’t going to buy this Volvo to save money. I think MPGe is okay for comparing one plug in to another, but 63 MPGe doesn’t really mean you are getting 63 mpg. With my PHEV I look at the MPG when I’m in hybrid mode and I look at the the miles/kWh when I’m in pure EV mode. You drag around an extra drive train, but if you want range with a BEV you drag around a big battery. There’s more complexity, more to go wrong. Not sure about this Volvo but my Prime ranks very high for reliability in consumer reports. My engine doesn’t deal with stop start, it mostly just runs on the highway. I imagine that reduces wear and tear. No matter what it has a lot less miles on the engine than an ICE car with the same miles.
I have one, it was indeed too expensive. But if you care about sound quality AND want an EV or PHEV, there really isn’t a better option until you’re north of $100k in a German to get Burmester
I have seen so many reviews about Volvos where the reviewer is 6’2 and says they have plenty of room, so I was surprised they said h to opposite.
Roman has a long torso 😂
Wow that's quick. I like it. Thanks guys for the excellent video as always 👍
Our pleasure!
I’m with the kid….. no comparison between this and Tesla whatsoever
Americans think luxury is size. Luxury is quality and attention to details. Great leather and craftsmanship.
Tesla isn't a premium brand. Quality is lacking, no personalization. It has tech, but technology isn't luxury.
In 2022 I ordered a V60 T6 hybrid in ultimate trim. That was €76500.
I agree that this car is too expensive, but PHEV is the best solution for most people if they want to step up from a hybrid or ICE. Comparing a Tesla to this is not apples to apples! Tesla is more like 90s Ford Escort build quality
"I wish prices were the same as the 90s, but not brake hold"
If it was a V90 I’d be more excited
I agree. I like this but too expensive.
It’s Tommy!!!
Roman is perpetuating the American obsession with giant vehicles
You don't need a freaking explorer to haul ur kids around. My family used to do road trips in an economy sedan just fine. And probably used 1/3 the gas doing it
100%!!!
I 100% agree, but you have to admit the guy is tall, .6'2 ==> almost 1.9m tall ! A 2h drive in the backseat is not pleasant, so he's got a point there.
Your family was also poor and probably didn’t work. When you grow up and work hard , you get to drive what you want. Stay homeless
@@cdbuiles yeah but families generally don't have 6ft2 kids for very long
@@9663mu lol what an aggressive assumption
Also a very incorrect one, we simply spent money on more useful things like education (thanks guys), vacations (also Ty), etc. vs giant cars we didn't need
Although I'm disappointed to say after me and my sibling grew up and moved out my parents got larger vehicles for some stupid reason. They never use the extra space... I chide them constantly about it
Test drove one it was ok but for what you pay you would think it would drive better.
It's not an m3 or a glc😂😂😂 the xc60 T8 blows both of them away and leaves them standing
Totally agree. The only thing this video car hasn’t got is air suspension. Then that juddery ride would be pure silk. I’ve got T8 recharge Polestar engineered with air suspension and it’s better than my previous BMW 530 and Range Rover Sport - quicker and more luxurious. Yes, expensive, but boy is that a dream power train! 😮
thought it was a Mercedes at first
I am sorry but it doesn’t make any sense to say the plug-in hybrid is the future. This is the most expensive, most complicated and least reliable vehicle type known to man. And this one is smallish for the US consumer.
I think to really be successful, plugin hybrids need to use a system where the drivetrain is all electric and the motor drives a generator to charge the battery. That would simplify a lot of the complexity of current hybrids.
$76k? I am with Dad. Too expensive. I'll buy a BEV premium vehicle for $15-$20k less and save thousands in fuel price
These are coming off rental duty one model year newer for almost half price.
We had the S60 rental car a couple months ago, so many "It's ok I guess" from me. The android automotive OS, meh, it's ok, not too impressive. I like the native waze, but everything else was laggy and not super intuitive for vehicle and adas functions. Shifter and switch? Very odd, but I guess you get used to it, wasn't impressed. ADAS? Felt like a crappy copycat of autopilot that was terrible at following lanes and couldn't trust at all. I had to turn off all the lane warnings they were WAY too overactive too. Ours was hybrid, not phev, and the shifting and transmission was awful. Never in the power band and it would unexpected shift at the wrong times, I hated it, poor tuning.
Volvo still using their ICE vehicles for their EVs, I look forward to the ones that's from the ground up with a different designs like Polestar.
I am sorry to hear you perpetuating the myth of range anxiety with BEVs. While BEVs may not satisfy all use cases today, they can satisfy well over 50%. Anyone who can install a home charger (60% of Americans own a home) and only takes a 500 mile road trip once or twice a year, would be well served by a BEV. With Tesla's charging network open to all BEVs and non-Tesla networks being improved with more chargers and better maintenance, finding a charger on trips isn't really an issue. The only issue on trips is the added charging time over that of pumping gas. But, you also have to factor in spouse bladder cycle time to that equation so it might work out to be the same! 😀
I have never taken an ICE or EV cross country trip, with my wife, kids and dogs, which didn’t involve a stop every 2 hours and didn’t take less than 30 minutes.
I work at a Volvo dealer. Although safe vehicles, they have a long way to go when it comes to reliability. When you get them with the huge rims, the ride quality is highly diminished. And having the climate controls in the screen? Just wait till you get into the thing when it's blazing hot and the climate is turned off. Waiting for that stupid screen to boot up seems like eternity as you sit there and bake. There's a lot more better choices out there for way less money.
Which better choices are you thinking of?
@@MarmiteTheDog I'll let JD Powers reports answer that for you. But the first that comes to mind is any Buick or Cadillac.
The main purpose to got electric in vehicles is to get rid of burning oil/gas. PHEV do not accomplish this. How many people own a PHEV and don't ever plug them in? I betcha its a majority of owners..
Rav4 Prime is highly rated with its range and reliability.
Volvo screens are too small
Way too expensive for it's reliability
I hate blacked out vehicles it reminds of a rattle can paint job!
Solid reviews gentleman, but ever since geely bought. Volvo , their reliability has been poor , still have Swedish design but not Swedish reliability!
Is that so? Feel free ti share all your non-existent Volvo experiences.
Look at consumer reports to see how great their cars are! The whole industry knows geely takeover , the cars are shit now . Very safe but not reliable!
Owned a 2002 Volvo CrossCountry for 15 years. Paid a premium for quality and did not get it. For 15 years I was in denial. Kept spending lots of money on repairs, and upkeep while convincing myself this will be the last big repair then clear sailing to 500K miles. At 165K miles dumped it for next to nothing after spending the equivalent on repairs to the original purchase price. Now my goal is to buy relatively cheap Chevys and dump them in four years or 35K, whichever comes first.
What’s sharp is the Volvo, what’s not Roman’s shoes.
Not ever considering a hybrid. All the maintenance of gas plus the electric system. Also, where I live, don’t need the range.
Excited to get this for $20k in 4 years!
This isn’t a Mercedes
The base XC40 Recharge is barely kissing $25k for 2021 models.
@@normt430 50% in 3 years. Big ups *air horn*
@@Oaky minus $7,500 fed tax credit to first owner and $4,000 to the second owner. See how BEV'S have value compared to ICE?!
@@normt430 Doesn't qualify for the full credit :) Hope that helps, google is free
28 mpg after all that tech? lmao
I hope this is just Tommy playing bad cop in their good cop-bad cop routine. Trying to justify the $77K price tag for this is plain ridiculous.
B O R I N G …. Rather have a Tesla model 3 performance Highland for $49,130!
❤Apple Car Play!
Wait until the crystal shifter is in the sunlight! It looks like it will blind you
Buy the extended warranty, it’s going to be expensive to repair
Volvo’s parent company is a Chinese company. Volvo cars are not the same as before. Sorry, I am not impressed. Full of copied technologies. Trying to have luxury interior but still lacking the ability to create something luxurious. The bottom line is that Volvo cars are made in China and not in Sweden.
"Full of copied technologies." 😂 Yeah, those dastardly Chinese even give their cars 4 wheels +1, am I right? 🤣
I don't get the 'black edition' fad. It's like the least styled edition.
That is stupid expensive for features that can be had down market. I am with Roman on this one. Also the AAOS system in Volvo/Polestar is just not good. It seems ok for a 15 minute review, but it's plagued by very bad performance and software quality. Each update makes it WORSE, not better. I am shocked they are sticking with a fairly small screen and a processor from 2016 on a $76k vehicle...
Meh😂
Black on black cars are horrible! Should be illegal to sell such dark cars/vehicles.
😑
76g for a car bought by the Chinese, PASS! in some countries you can buy a house with that.
Your racism is showing.
@@stgeorgee your lack of spine and intelligence is showing. you must've went to college to think that.
