      I did both, I afk xp'd and also trained afkers, the reason to train afkers was more so an issue to the fact that sometimes ppl would aggregate and XP on common XP camp spots which is a big hell no to most ppl and is not fair when they have like infinite choices to afk @

    Hey brother, always love these videos. My brother, his wife, and a good friend of ours would always share our account information, we all had 2-3 ps2s.
    I was not a fan of full on afk XP but as long as folks weren't doing it at the popular group spots, eh...to each his own.
    If we had too much xp debt one of us would log us all in, form a group and run out to giants or EoZ and let the group afk as the main guy pulled.
    Otherwise to get rid of debt we would roam the countryside and find some REALLY out of the way cave or tree with maybe a spawn or two and afk there for a few hours, so we did not interfere with popular xp spots.

    • @EQOAnostalgia
      @EQOAnostalgia  24 дні тому

      Yeah, it's best to try and avoid the popular spots for two reasons. Not to conflict with other players, and not to get trolled by said players lol. Even with our population as low as it is now, i STILL see people coming through rather obscure locations. Blows my mind. It's very good, but also double edged sword if they aren't chill about it lol. Most people have been chill.
      Nobody has tried to train me. . . YET.

    Woah! I just thought about EQOA randomly one day and decided to check it out after initially getting hyped for a revival 5 years ago. It's great to see solid progress seemingly being made. I know there's been a lot of background drama with different / conflicting teams working on their own servers instead of working together to bring EQOA back from the dead, so I admittedly lost faith that things would ever have progressed to this point. Hope to see a lot more of this in the very near future.

    • @EQOAnostalgia
      @EQOAnostalgia  12 днів тому

      Oh yeah, that drama is about half a decade old now so it makes sense the time frame you mention. That's definitely old news, which was pretty overblown on reddit honestly lol. There was never this massive fracture, reports of it were highly exaggerated from what i can tell.

    AFK xping is a staple in the game. People do play still, raids, quest, etc. When its downtime and people have to work and have family, afk xping is a way to still be apart of the world while not being. Its a way for people to add value to the game even when not playing. Also gives people a chance to add value to their characters for CMs and stuff

    To speak on people trolling, etc. We will never be back where we came from old MMORPG's. We have changed in our social lives in comparison from where we came from. The only way we can get that back, is meeting like minded people. Being nice is difficult; being edgy, trolling, rude, or mean, it way too easy to do. One thing I've been seeing lately is someone would ask a legit question like "how do I give my pet a weapon", and someone would respond "it's quite simple, you just play the game". I'm not sure if it's a joke, but it's definitely a non-answer.

    Never played the game but I think you were right to be against AFK leveling, so many mechanics in modern day MMO are "Quality of life" changes that sound great in a vacuum, like a group finder, no death penalty, removing long travel times etc. For some of them you will even hear the same arguments in their defense as for AFK leveling (Just don't use it if you dislike it, let people have fun!) but I think they sap the identity and feel of the game. Older MMOs feel not at all like modern ones even though on paper they aren't THAT different and my theory is that it's due to the compounding effect of these changes.
    So from my POV as someone who knows next to nothing about EQOA. I can totally see being against AFK leveling in order to keep the spirit of the game alive. Also, can't forget the quote, "Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game" - AFK leveling sure does look very optimal and not fun.

    • @EQOAnostalgia
      @EQOAnostalgia  23 дні тому

      I wasn't really against the practice of it, just the timing of it on a test server where everything will be wiped, plus after over a decade, we just got the server running. But i hear ya, but it's not like we can control it. It's been a part of EQOA for so long that it's never going away unless the devs try to enforce it, which i really don't think they will.
      If i'm AFK leveling it's because i don't have time, or want to group in that moment, so i'll log into an alt and park them somewhere they can get a small bit of exp over a long period of time.
      It's not really too big of a deal, but some of our community evidently detest it.

    4:15 - You are in a shared world. You are taking space from an active player who is there. Whether or not there is an active player there trying to take the space is irrelevant. The reality is you are there when someone else could be who is actually playing the game. Them training you while you are afk to take your spot is perfectly reasonable imo. You are acting like it's so benign and harmless but, you are having a negative impact whether that impact be large or small, it's still an impact. You take zone space. You take server space. You take server bandwidth. Etc etc. If we allow a single person to do this and say its ok its nit a big deal, now everyone will start doing it. The negative impact grows. No longer is it this small negative impact it becomes a server wide issue. This negatively effects the game, the community, etc.
    Dont be selfish. Dont be unreasonable. Dont take space if you aren't active. Simple. If you aren't going to be there, park in a town like Freeport, Qeynos, etc, and log off, do whatver it is you want to do and come back when you are ready to play. Dont leave your character unattended auto leveling like you are playing a mobile game. Trying to normalize isn't a good thing no matter how benign you feel it might be.
