I think it's got something to do with reaction channels getting a lot of strikes recently and Tool absolutely does not seem to care if reactors do their songs. People will play straight through without stopping and never seem to have issues
You have to listen to wings for Marie part one and this back to back - it’s essentially the first part of the song. Love that you guys are going into Tool!
Part of the story is that Judith Marie (his mother) suffered an aneurism, and some parts of her congregation said her aneurism was punishment from God for living with a man who wasn’t her husband. Maynard was understandably pissed at her church for blaming her for her own suffering, but he was also pissed at her for maintaining faith in a god who would let her suffer like she was (this rage is expressed in the song “Judith”, by Maynard’s other band A Perfect Circle). As she reached the end of her life, Maynard’s feelings shifted a bit, and he directed his ire towards the congregation that shunned his mother, rather than the god she believed in. The two parts of 10,000 Days go hand in hand. Part 1 is him looking at his mom in the hospital finally dying and wondering what he is supposed to say to everyone who he feels feigns love and support for her, and Part 2 is him saying goodbye as she actually passes away and his reflection on how much more worthy of heaven she is compared to all the people in her church who act pious and holier than thou
Gripping ode from an atheist son to his devout mother (Judith Mary) who died after having suffered 10000 days of agony, unwavering in her faith. The lyrics are an emotional rollercoaster of empathy and anger. "I've suffered for you long enough, gimme my bloody wings now..."
It's the power behind it. This woman who has spent her life in pious fear of the Lord has stopped asking, she's demanding. I've held up my end. I've done way more than my share. It's time now. MY time now. GIVE me my wings.
The Tool Army here already know this, but Maynard has dealt with his evolving relationship with his mother and HER relationship with God throughout her illness through his music, both with Tool and with A Perfect Circle. He pretty much goes through all the stages - denial, anger acceptance, etc. So open and honest, especially for a guy who is notoriously guarded in interviews. These songs (parts 1 and 2) are the last he has to say about it, and that's a good thing - he's in a good place and feels that she is, too.
Maynard (the singer/songwriter) wrote this about his mother and supposedly regrets it because it’s too personal and painful. I saw them perform it in 2007 and it was unforgettable.
Same. Concert ended and the whole band quietly sat on the edge of the stage and we all lit lighters - one of the most beautiful things I've ever witnessed. ☮️💟
Many songs about his love hate relationship with God over his Mother being a devote Christian how could God let something like an aneurysm leave her helpless for 10,000 days. That musical journey is even more powerful than T00L itself. There is a track list leading up to Wings for Marie pt1 and Wings for Marie pt2 (10,000 Days).
Love that you guys are doing Tool. Their songs have so much depth. This is such an emotional song, maybe the most emotional one Maynard's written for Tool (I can't speak for the entirety of his work with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer). He had a complicated relationship with his mother. Listen to the song Judith by his other band A Perfect Circle. And Tool is a fairly trippy band, especially in their live shows. They explore a lot of metaphysical themes and use a lot of different tones and rhythms.
This album is incredible. Worth a back to back listen. But the two songs in this move me every time. I feel it. Theres a raw emotion behind these two that goes unmatched by almost abything else in my eyes. Right in two is excellent every time too.
that night when Tom & Nova first appeared on your stream I neer dreamed you'd be Adam's co-host on mondays and you'd come to rthe realization thst Tool is the greatest band ever. keep up the great work, you deserve all the success
This song was lyrically written about his mother. Judith Marie Keenan; an extremely Christian woman who passed away after battling terminal medical complications… he figured that she spent 10,000 days in her life. The entire album loosely describes his experience, as well as his work in A Perfect Circle “Judith” which would be a good reaction for you to do next 🤔
Having seeing my mother go through years of suffering in and out of the hospital for years before passing away this song brings out the feelings every time i listen to it! No other song does that to me Tool is a special group of musicians that will never be topped imo.
Ever since I learned what these songs were about I cry every time I listen to it/them. It's such a great memorial from a son to a mother. It's amazing what he thought of her. Just wonderfully brutal. Rips my heart out every time.
Maynard is not Atheist, he just questions gods decisions as it pertains to mankind. He is not religious which is why people say he Atheist, as well as listening to the things that Maynard had said in interviews. But a person who is Atheist does not believe in prayer or god or in anything spiritual. But Maynard does believe in his own way, proof of this is littered throughout TOOL songs. Right in Two is one of those songs
Dang yall skipped right to the masters class with this one. I commend you going this deep so early in your tool journey. Look forward to you discovering more.
Maynard had a complicated relationship with religion. If you truly dive into the music he writes, you'll notice the stages he goes through until he finds his own comfort level with spirituality.
My mother passed away in 2020 after having a stroke and spending 18 years paralyzed and mute. We read the lyrics "shake your fist at the gates....give me my wings" at her funeral. Probably not too many 72 year olds have TOOL read at their funeral.
How do you recommend this to them without doing the first two parts of the trilogy not counting Jimmy? You have to get all stages of the story. Anger with “Judith”, disbelief with “Wings for Marie pt 1” then finally 10,000 days.
I'd say Maynard wasn't telling Mom to ask for her wings. Shake your fists at the gates saying: "I have come home now! Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father. Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended. It's time now! My time now! Give me my, give me my wings!"
Great stuff, though I do wish you had started with part 1. Please consider doing Judith by A Perfect Circle which is another of Maynard's bands. It is also about his mother, but prior to her death and from a totally different mindset. When this album came out it did not include lyrics. I assumed his mindset was closer to where he was in Judith when I heard this and it took me a number of listens to understand that was not the case. Now this one hits me and is honestly a bit hard to listen to. Regardless, I really recommend Judith, and thank you both.
The song is like a dirge. The song to is about his mother' unwavering faith in God no mater how much suffering was handed out to her.I guess you could say she was like Job in the bible.
I'm sorry but you only reacted to the second part of this song. It's a 2 track song and in my opinion it's the greatest love song ever written, even if it's love for a mother.
You're my eyes my witness my evidence...Judith Marie....unconditional one. She was his only evidence for God's existence because of her unconditional love and faith....pretty god damn hardcore
Sorry but you cannot discuss atheism under a Christian lens. "Everyone has a place in (your deity)" is a nice idea but atheism is simply a rejection of these very claims. Beliefs aren't facts, hence the requirement of faith. Great reaction though. I feel like reactions are the new radio
The person he's singing about was devout, and he's singing on her behalf, with a kind of anger because he doesn't believe, he feels she wasted her time, but he's saying if there was a god, he'd better hook her up.
Everybody doing tool reactions lately loving it!There is literally no other band that’s even similar to their style.
TOOL IS LIFE 🔥🔥🤘🤘
I think it's got something to do with reaction channels getting a lot of strikes recently and Tool absolutely does not seem to care if reactors do their songs. People will play straight through without stopping and never seem to have issues
@brandonhinrichs4393 not to mention, they're better than Metallica. I said what I said. Lol
Ummm..... puscifer, a perfect circle lol
@@ryderjohnson1293 Apples and Oranges. Metallica is great in their own way.
You have to listen to wings for Marie part one and this back to back - it’s essentially the first part of the song. Love that you guys are going into Tool!
They need to listen to Jimmy and Judith before both. You could even throw H in there. To get a complete metamorphosis of his psyche.
Such a beautiful tribute to his mom, simultaneously respecting her faith while still providing a commentary on the hypocrisy of the faithful.
Diving into Tool's music leaves you forever changed. Truly what a musical group should strive for. Unprecedented artisanship.
songs maynard wrote about his mother, "Jimmy", "Judith", and "Wings for Marie, pt 1&2",
Wings is amazing.

Well put.
Beautifully written and summarized 🙏

Quick correction, it is Judith Marie, not Judith Mary.
Being anti-religion is not necessarily to be an atheist. I don't think Maynard has ever called himself an atheist.
🤓
“Its time now, my time now, give me my, give me my wings” always makes me tear up.
It's the power behind it. This woman who has spent her life in pious fear of the Lord has stopped asking, she's demanding. I've held up my end. I've done way more than my share. It's time now. MY time now. GIVE me my wings.

TOOL ARMY checking in. Appreciate the reaction ✌️
Maynard is the GOAT. He’s reached ghost Jedi status at age 2.

@@lauriewilliamson1106 I miss lighters at concerts. It was such a cooler vibe than cell phones lighting the place up.
Same. I remember so many people around me just copious crying with one another. It was the closest show to his hometown too.
Tool is one of those Goats that has to be experienced live. GREAT SONG. Great reaction❤😊
Just got back from 2 shows in Toronto!! First time I've actually been star struck
One of my fav. Tool songs. ❤
25 second scream in the song called "The Grudge" is worth a listen.
The TOOL rabbit hole is deep!🤘

"Right in Two" "The Pot" "Pneuma" are all great Tool songs. Just to get started!
this song really appeals, but yeesh, the pride in it...
Having seeing my mother go through years of suffering in and out of the hospital for years before passing away this song brings out the feelings every time i listen to it! No other song does that to me Tool is a special group of musicians that will never be topped imo.
Same here. Ironically, my mother's name was Marie. This song gets me every single time
Ever since I learned what these songs were about I cry every time I listen to it/them. It's such a great memorial from a son to a mother. It's amazing what he thought of her. Just wonderfully brutal. Rips my heart out every time.
I grew up listening to tool and man they are above any other bands if u listen smoking weed or tripin the sounds omg they amazing
If you've never been to a concert...do yourself a spiritual favor..go.
Similar story with my mother and your mother flawd song definitely hit different
Love me some mother fuckin Tool! 🤘🔥

Damn this song needs context. And is part of a four song series
They discuss the context at the end

I believe Maynard wrote this about his mom.
Please if you haven’t already, react to Tool Third eye live. It’s literally my favourite live performance EVER
He is not an atheist, he is just not a Christian

Shame yous didn’t do part 1/2 b2b but appreciate the reaction
Since you are into dope lyrics I recommend Eulogy from tool. Lyrics are killer
Gotta go listen to part 1….
The song is like a dirge. The song to is about his mother' unwavering faith in God no mater how much suffering was handed out to her.I guess you could say she was like Job in the bible.
Man that woddling and bobbing around really threw me off
😑

tool really knows how to hit hard....ouch!
🔥🔥
Heavy for sure.
I don't know this as fact, but I get the feeling Maynard is spiritual but not religious if that makes sense.
Nice
🤙
You really missed something by not playing Wings For Marie first.
His mother had a brain aneurysm and she was in a wheelchair for 27 years
You're my eyes my witness my evidence...Judith Marie....unconditional one. She was his only evidence for God's existence because of her unconditional love and faith....pretty god damn hardcore
Give me wings.
Maynard.
He's nonsecular maybe but not an atheist
After Puscifer and the latest Tool tracks we know he’s not atheist. Pnuema is all about dual Gnosticism
A perfect example why watching the entire thing before commenting is smart.
Crawl Away and Invincible will make you feel a certain way.
For me it is pro rock , similar to King Crimson , Genesis with Peter Gabriel , Marillion with Fish..

So James Maynard Keenan is not a atheist he just doesn't believe in religion he believes in God in the scriptures
No
The person he's singing about was devout, and he's singing on her behalf, with a kind of anger because he doesn't believe, he feels she wasted her time, but he's saying if there was a god, he'd better hook her up.
@@edbartek6550Bitch, yes.
Who says? That's quite the disingenuous claim. He definitely considers the possibility but doesn't "believe" in scriptures.
After hearing this song so many times it will still bring me to tears, such power.
I think it's time to do Rammstein - Du Hast live at Paris
Religious folks just don't get it. They should listen to Judith and maybe they'll open their eyes a bit.
I find it odd that anyone can listen to this with a camera watching them to be broadcast to the public.
A lot do. Not everyone can get viewers though. The internet is a weird place 🤣
