“You feel it move across your skin” it gives everyone chills listening to that song. Everyone gets them and they knew it would and wrote it right in the lyrics. Crazy genius
I'm so glad you guys checked out that breakdown video after. Imagine all that context you wouldn't have had. Tool is so good. Their latest album is a masterpiece.
Unpopular opinion: I like some of the oldest stuff better. Regardless newest is amazing as always. Also best live show I’ve ever been to hands down. Not even close. Edited because using phone at work and I suck at typing on phone lol.
@@alaniasdruid8616 Honestly I don't even know if that's unpopular. I think it all comes down to personal preference, really. Their whole catalogue was made by masters. I'll admit there's some of the older *tracks* that I think might be better, but if I'm going to sit down and put on a Tool album, it'll be Fear Inoculum.
Wow you two didn’t get anything right. Try the fucking lyrics, the concept, do homework. And repelled by the video. Shut your eyes and listen.”the melody is fire.” Whoa. Deep.
@@TheSyncos Fear Inoculum is a ridiculously awesome album, but Lateralus is still the masterpiece in my opinion. And yes, best live show hands down. I've never been to one that didn't blow me away.
Here for Tool, suprised and impressed you checked out the explanation video. Alot of reactors 'use' Tool to get people to their channel, and do not really show any 'true' interest in the band. Lateralus is a difficult one for any first time listener 👏👏👏 Subscibed!
The bones of your finger (including the bone from your knuckle to your wrist) follow the Fibonacci sequence. We have 8 fingers in total, 5 digits on each hand, 3 bones in each finger, 2 bones in 1 thumb, and 1 thumb on each hand. Many flowers also exhibit the Fibonacci sequence.
The truly amazing thing is that despite all the heavy use of mathematical concepts and structure of the song, if you weren't aware of any of it, you'd have no idea because the song itself sounds so good. Its the perfect balance between holistic intuition and extreme craft.
Tool's "Lateralus" is a progressive rock song known for its distinct time signatures and corresponding lyrical patterns.3 The song was originally titled "9-8-7" for its time signatures, but it turned out that 987 was the 16th number of the Fibonacci sequence.03 The first verse of the song begins at 97 seconds, which is approximately 1.618 minutes, and each verse is 55 seconds long, which is the 11th number in the sequence.012 The syllables in those verses match the sequence too, peaking at 13 (coincidentally, the same number of total album tracks) and then again in a descending order thereafter.12 The syllables Maynard sings in the first verse follow the first six numbers in the pattern, ascending and descending in the sequence 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3.
Interestingly this album used to give me anxiety. Listening to mantra, parabola, ticks and leeches, lateralus, reflection (one of my favorites) ,triad, and of course that last bullshit track lololol
I was fortunate to have seen TOOL in 2013 for the Lateralus tour, they were amazing. Now I just bought my ticket for Feb. 5th 2024 in Denver Colorado. These guys absolutely Shred it. 🎵
They have evolved over the years. That’s why there are late gaps in album releases. The band sends Menard the music, then He writes and arranges the songs. Danny Carey is one of the best drummers of all time. The ever changing time signatures, adds to the unique sound. And I believe the drummer and the bass player make all of their video’s.
😍 Thank you for this reaction, love this song from Tool! These are some possibilities (visually) of a DMT trip gone right. Been a Tool fan since the 90's.
Fribbinocci sequence is found everywhere, whether it be a leaf on a plant, branches on trees, flowers, even in the process of cell duplication that forms man in the womb. Deep stuff.

I interpret this as him singing about the importance of human curiosity. We always want an answer to things unknown(ie. New experiences). Instead of going in blind with curiosity(the innate urge to push the envelope, cross the line) and use our intuition to understand a new experience, we tend to overthink and overanalyze things with logic beforehand. If we only thought and analyzed everything new to us, we wouldn't have curiosity. Without curiosity, we would miss out on new and random experiences. Without experiencing new and random things, we won't have a developed intuition to help us make sense of new things. If we don't have the ability to make sense of new things, we would always fear the unknown. With fear blocking us from approaching the unknown, humanity would no longer advance. Embrace the random. Ride the spiral of your curiosity into the unknown, and keep riding it to the end. Maintain a healthy balance between curiosity and logic. Too much curiosity is a danger to the body. Too much logic is a danger to the soul. What's great is that there is no wrong interpretation to this song. However this song is taken, it is open for all of us to interpret through our own lenses...
I'm sorry that the lyric DMT video freaked your eyeballs out..lol But I'm super glad you stayed around and checked out the accompanying video. Now you can listen to the song a few times or a few hundred if you are like us .. without the video and just love it more and more and more.
Awesome choice of tracks. I knew Tool from the early days of Opiate, but this song made me fall in love with them. Just a small side note, I saw you bust out a back scratcher at the end of the video. As a dialysis patient how knows that pain very well. I will suggest looking into the "Back Rake" By far the best back scratcher fi found. Big wooden amazing piece of design. Also seconds as a weapon.
Watching someone try to "bop" to TOOL's time signatures is always amusing. "The time signature of the main riff is 9/8 8/8 7/8, 987 is the 17th term in the sequence".
Love this reaction. Someone mentioned it on today's Rumble live and I had to come back and watch it again. Great stuff. Hoping for another Tool request day soon. :)
This song is written in the Fibonacci sequence aka Golden Ratio. The mathematical sequence of the universe. Represented by a spiral while telling you not to think about it too much.
Dany Carey is the greatest drummer to ever live. His signatures are mind warping. I can't keep up is the right response. This is masterful work. Keep going.
THANK YOU! I have “tried” to explain to friends why this song sounds the way it does and why I love it because of the math. Music lovers that never played anything always look at me funny when I say “I like this song (any song) because the math is good”. Now that I know that breakdown video exists I can just be like “shut up and listen, then listen to this”
3,5,8 beat. Fibonacci sequence. Aka the golden ratio. One of my favorites of all time. I didn't need to make this comment, it is explained in the video.
Are you seriously just NOW listening to Lateralus?!?! Awesome for you! It’s an awesome song from an awesome album from an awesome band. I’d suggest “Parabol” into “Parabola” next if you haven’t heard it yet :)
