I think the flaking is possibly due to the cream. Sometimes cream based stylers and gels don’t mix depending on the brand. One of my favorite base products for moisture that doesn’t flake is the Eden Bodywork’s Marshmallow moisture serum. It’s like a moisture jelly and makes a great base
I have 4a/4b hair. I use the leave-in conditioner and custard combo when it is freshly washed. I'd also recommend applying half of the amount of product to your hair. I use the curl smoothie and custard when I was to refresh an old wash and go.
you should def. try that mielle custard topped with camille rose curl maker. No flaking. Also uncle funky's daughter curly magic + camille rose curl maker is also another bomb combo.
I am a huge fan of the As I Am custard (not sure if that is the actual name, but it is the custard type of product). It is so light and liquidy. I never get issues with flaking.
I love the Mielle pomegranate custard with the leave-in conditioner from the same line. It is recommended that you use an oil after the leave-in conditioner to avoid flaking. The smoothie is meant to be a stand alone styler. I never tried the mousse. I will now. I think your hair looked great.
I've found that Mielle products strangely do not work with each other all the time. This smoothie works well with the Mielle Maximum Hold Gel. I used the Mango & Tulsi line and used the leave in and gel in this line together and got flakes. But using the whipping creme and gel in that line works wonderful together. You would think when brands make products they would make them to work nicely with each other...lol
I really like the transparency in this video! I have the custard and I love it! I use it with the innersense I create hold and it’s chef kiss for my hair! It gives the right amount of softness and hold!
I had the same flaking with this custard. I think with this custard you have to use very little. Once I learned the right amount to use for each section I didn't have any flaking. I guess it's a good thing because it lasts longer.
I’ve been using the Mielle leave in and curl smoothie for twist outs and it flakes. I’m not buying the smoothie again bc It’s the def the curl smoothie making snow😭
Love the custard because it's an easy product to use. I use it by itself and top it with a mousse or bit of gel. I never got the smoothie because i was sure on how to use it. Mielle has a hard hold gel, so that may be à better combo with the smoothie.
I thought about buying the smoothie but I opted for the leave in from the same line. The Mielle leave in and the coiling custard from this line are my favorite. It’s my go to wash n go style. I use just enough leave in to coat my hair (not too much) and apply a lot of the custard in sections and add water. In the directions on the custard it recommends adding it to wet hair so I just add more water after applying it. I’m sorry it flaked on you cause your hair looked good. Girl! The picturesss 😂 I could feel your stress. This happened to me before with different products and like you I didn’t have time to fix it before work lol
Please is it possible to used the curl smoothie as a leave in condition, I ordered for the leave in condition but I got the curl smoothie rather.. I made a complaint and I was told they are the same.. is it true
I remember loving using the mousse and custard as a combo, I never liked the leave in or the smoothie with the custard. That mousse is just phenomenal all around. Watching this has me entertaining the thought of buying the custard again to use by itself, but I’m on the fence
i believe the curl smoothie was responsible for the flaking. Everything I used that product, even by itself, it’d flake so much that my hair looked dirty.
I caught a coworker of mine staring at the back of my head that day. I wanted to melt into the ground. I can only imagine what that feeling is like in Asia.
I've seen in other videos that the smoothie and custard flake real bad so I avoided it. Love the mousse and maximum hold gel combo (it's mild/medium hold) from the Pomegranate & Honey line though. No flakes and good definition.
Your use of custards made me try them when I first went natural. Your hair was always bomb! I really gave it a try, but I was Always in a snowstorm and my hair would feel gummy too. I threw away two half used containers (heated for my wastefulness), but it just never worked for me. I've Been There! Your final WG is beautiful. I'm loving the shape!
I never knew they made a smoothie 😵💫 I need to look for it. I always use the leave-in and custard to style but it’d be interesting to try the smoothie & mousse 🤔
Oh my goodness! So sorry about your experience with Mielle. I have coily twa. I don't get flakes when I use the leave in then the custard. I don't use that much product either. I use Texture ID refresher spray on the morning between wash days.
I haven't had an issue with the curl smoothie flaking. I use it to refresh my hair, too, when it starts drying through the week. The custard, on the other hand, does flake every time; based on some of the comments, I think maybe I am using too much. No matter what custard I try it’s always flake city. Even if I use them by themselves. 😢 I still have a few jars that I most likely will have to give away or throw away cause I’m not wasting any more styles too much work for that. It’s either a mousse or a gel as far as styling for me. But foams are definitely my go to right now. I get the definition, the volume, the shine and softness
As I was watching I was like ooow this about to be flake city. I’ve never used the curl smoothie but have used the leave in and custard and when I used too much I got snowfall and my hair would be tacky to the touch.
I think 2 stylers will always cause the hair to flake and feel gross, you should only have to do a leave-in and 1 styler to prevent that from happening
Nah, I disagree. Many stylists use more than one styler on their client, and many clients do the same at home and don’t experience flaking. It’s all about the products being used and how they’re being combined and applied, and Mielle custard is known to flake depending on what it’s combined with. That’s just a very common complaint you’ll see in reviews for this product.
The curl smoothie doesn’t flake with the pomegranate gel. But I think the custard is usually better with just the leave in and the custard. Also may like JVN air dry cream. 👀 I’ve seen so many nice results from the curly girlys
I feel your pain. I tried a new combo not long ago on a Sunday and unfortunately my hair looked white! So much flaking. Needless to say, i ended up back in the shower a few hours later. There was no way i was going to work the next day with flake city.
I just discovered Mielle added more products to the pomegranate and honey line. They have a Maximum Hold Gel Styler now and it gives good definition. Maybe try that with the smoothie. Weird products in the same line would flake. Are you stretching your hair with heat or cool air?
I think maybe the smoothie and the custard are both stylers so they shouldn’t be used together. Idk 🤷🏾♀️ like the smoothie should be used with the leave in, or if you want more hold to use the leave in with the custard.
Thank you for this video! 🥰💙.. Your hair did look good (definition was on Point) .. I hate that this combo didn’t work! I haven’t tried these two together (thanks for testing it out) 💙
I use this combo, and I do have to be careful not to use too much or else my hair feels sticky and heavy. I probably use 6-7 pumps of the smoothie over my whole head. I’ve also had success with this line using the smoothie then the mousse topped with the gel (using less gel than I would typically use)
The flaking is probably from the xanthan gum. If xanthan gum is high on an ingredient list and doesn't have the right mix of emollients it can flake up bad. Using an oil during application can help avoid flaking.
It flaked on me when I used it too, and I used it with the Mielle leave in. I was very heavy handed with it though, I used it again with the same amount of leave in but a lot less custard and it didn't flake. I found that with the custard you don't need a lot at all.
Hmm I wonder what would happen if you used both styling products separately with their pomegranate mousse you tried before by itself. Those two stylers look like stand alone stylers for certain textures/finishes.
Yeah, I bet separately they work out but I was confused since they are in the same line I thought they would work together. However, I believe the custard works better with the leave in. The custard is still an old favorite of mine but it’ll be a while before I revisit.
Also the curl smoothie is like a styler in itself so the smoothie and custard probably was too much. I had the custard and girlllll let me tell you how that shit flaked 😂😂 I’m seriously really only sticking to the aphogee provitamin leave in and I use that to saturate my hair like it’s water , cause it really is just enhanced water. And then I apply my stylers on top granted it’s getting colder so the need for creams under the styler is needed but idk y after stretching hair flakes appear it’s so annoying
I typically never use the mousse alone. To me, any mousse can be drying. I only used it alone this time because I still had some leftover product in my hair.
I used lotto body setting lotion the mielle smoothing curl . My hair looked amazing. However, it flaked so bad. Im back to testing products that don't flake or feel sticky. Any suggestions?
My mom loves the smoothie, but we've never tried the custard. It's so disappointing when products from the same line don't work well together! Especially since you had to go to work like that nooo
I know how you feel with the flaking..UGHHH! My best haircare products are Bask&Bloom Essentials and Pattern Beauty. Anything else is a hit and or miss!
Ugh the flaking is so embarrassing 😢 I tried a product combo for a work trip and man it was flaking badddd. I used oil sheen to fix it but there were still a lot left. Learned my lesson to use my go to stuff for stuff like that. Before I went to the airport I should have grabbed my other products so I could wash it when I got there but I didn’t 😢😢😢
Idk why but the mielle products made my hair feel really rough and broken when I use it the next week. The mouse made my hair gray for a wash and go but not for a twistout. I only like mielles monogoo conditioner, but only that 😫
"my mouth was agape". 🤣I know how you feel. That Camille rose gel and butter Gel give me the worst flakes, all on the side of my hair. It gives great moisture but the flakes and feeling of ick are not acceptable.
I wonder is it because the flake appeared due to too much products - 5 pumps of the smoothie on each section and the amount of custard to each section. I get flakes when i apply too much products
I love Mielle’s shampoos and conditioners but YES all of their products except for the Tunisia line will flake on you. That’s the only line I will use due to the moisture.
Giirrrlllll when you said flakes I felt your pain. That’s the kinda flaking Innersense I Create Hold give me. Had to gon and cut that out. Definition don’t mean a goddamn thang if it come with flakes!
I had the same thing happen with curl mix line and the doux. I’ve found though that I can use AdWoa leave in with curl mix mousse and the doux mousse without any flaking. I don’t wash in go. I twist out or braid out. The curl mix mousse is the best looking but no longevity because it’s light to medium hold product. I wish these companies would work a little harder at a product so that all items work together without flaking or drying out the hair. To offer a mousse and say you can’t use a leave in with it because it has moisturizing properties is a lie because we all know that those moisturizing properties are negated by the chemicals that make mousse a mousse. I anyway. I said all that to say I feel your pain. Dusty white hair ain’t it after the time it takes to achieve your style.
I used this custard alone and literally my hair dried white and a day later it created hair boogers which I hate! I love how lightweight it is but hate everything else about this product!
Please is it possible to used the curl smoothie as a leave in condition, I ordered for the leave in condition but I got the curl smoothie rather.. I made a complaint and I was told they are the same.. is it true
Wait, the brand told you they were the same? Because according to their directions, they are absolutely not. The curl smoothie is apparently supposed to be used as a styler and not necessarily a leave in conditioner so they cannot be interchangeable. I thought they could be in this video but they cannot. You can use it as a leave in conditioner, but just be careful what you pair with is all. I thought these two products were the same since they were both styling products from the same line but they were absolutely not.
@@BrittanyMia not the brand but the seller, the thing is I lived in Russia and because of the sanctions, most of the online stores like Amazon and stuff are not available here anymore but I ordered the product from china and after a month and some days I got curl smoothie instead of leave in conditioner, i made a complaint and the seller keeping saying they are the same, i was so disappointed and angry at the same time because i knew i couldn’t send it back 😢
@@yusuphbashir8769 it’s okay, you can still use it. If you wanted to combine it with something else, test it out on your hand and see if they mix well as opposed to balling and pilling up.
I used this product as the packaging instructed, with their leave in and with an oil. It still was the worst hair day of my life. Even my shoulders were flaking. I threw it right out
I thought the curl smoothie and the leave in were interchangeable but I was wroooong. I didn’t think it’d be a problem. Ngl, I took it back to Sally’s so quick. Good to know the leave-in reacted the same.
Sorry!! 😭 it really feels like the universe is against you when your wash and go wakes up flaky on a going out day 😂 yeah same girl no matter how good a product is, if it flakes on me, it is not good. I tested the mielle custard in sachets long time ago and I dont remember why but it was a no. Thank God it was just a sachet.
You are way too heavy-handed with products. 5 pumps per section ( You probably could have used 1-3 per section) was way too much, and the amounts of gel per section was excessive too ( you probably could have used 3-5 Tablespoons of custard for your entire head) .You may want to try the smoothie with the foam on top or the custard with the leave-in in as well.
You used way too many product. It felt cringe watching you pile it on 🥲 and the stretching made it worse. Try 1-2 pumps per section not 5 if you ever decide to use it again
Yeah, I probably did use too much. I also wasn’t aware that these were supposed to be two separate stylers that shouldn’t be used together so in the future if I circle back, I may try it with the leave in.
Used it and got the same result. 🫠 I used to looove the twisting cream that was from the same line, but somewhere down the line, the formula changed and I started to notice flaking even with the twisting cream. 🙃

Giirrrlllll when you said flakes I felt your pain. That’s the kinda flaking Innersense I Create Hold give me. Had to gon and cut that out. Definition don’t mean a goddamn thang if it come with flakes!
My hair and custards just don’t mix I had the same problem with this product and and kinky custard. I don’t have this problem with gels
It’s crazy I don’t think her hair looked bad in the pictures
Very good
I used this products and my hair was very flaky and sticky. Gummy..
did you put leave in before applying the smoothie?
Nope, just the smoothie.
If you wanted to combine it with something else, test it out on your hand and see if they mix well as opposed to balling and pilling up.
i have this exact hair type, what is it
The stylers don't mix unfortunately. Sometimes hopping in the shower and letting the steam get it wet and a shake will help.
Hey guys. My Glow by Daye code was changed to code BRITTANYMIA. Sorry to those that were having issues last video 😬.
The smoothie did it. That doesnt pair well with other products in the line. The leave in, custard, and gel go together. I dont mess with the smoothie.
How do you dry your hair
I sat under a hooded dryer
Someday can you show us how you part your hair 🥹 I’m a guy and that’s the hardest part for me is sectioning correctly
Noted!
7:46 I thought you said you had to go to twerk 🤣
😂
You are way too heavy-handed with products. 5 pumps per section ( You probably could have used 1-3 per section) was way too much, and the amounts of gel per section was excessive too ( you probably could have used 3-5 Tablespoons of custard for your entire head) .You may want to try the smoothie with the foam on top or the custard with the leave-in in as well.
The application technique is different.
I don’t use Mielles products! Stick with Camille Rose. Adowa. Etc
Their products are no good at all 😩
You used way too many product.
