The way Nyjah has been reflecting back on his days of learning to skate with his dad and just speaking like someone who grew up skating instead of sounding like a rich celebrity is a nice change of pace.

Nyjah is the GOAT of our generation, always throwing gnarly tricks. I remember being a teenager skating in the mid/late 2000’s and This is My Element was released; IMO that part goes down as one of the best.

Glad people get to see what he really had to overcome. They make it seem like he ain’t put the work in when he ABSOLUTELY did. Since a kid he’s been going hard and pushing the progression of skateboarding. A lot of people might not like him for whatever reason but you DEFINITELY GOTTA RESPECT HIM. GOAT

@@harryhome86 his dad has that crazy little league parent energy but people give him a pass because it was for skating and Nyjah has such a great career. But his dad definitely seemed to be trying to live through him and that aint cool
I've watched Fade to Black more times than any other skate parts ever, i still keep finding myself going abck to it and its just so sick. I dont skate anymore due to the fact that i can't take the risk of having another sprain or injury since i need to train and compete in other sports but i love skateboarding so much and nyjah will forever be one of my fav skaters
Had Fade to Black downloaded on my ipod back in middle school, would watch it constantly in pure awe of just how good he was. Also had to quit skating since I was a dual sport athlete, but always stayed in tune with the skate world. Strait BS he hasn't won SOTY, him and Joslin are the two biggest robberies imo

@@AChristian316 there’s a whole wealth of names giving praise to the creator. Ny (meaning my) Jah (meaning Jehovah) all summed up means my God is Jehovah. It’s a beautiful thing. It’s of African decent. Children are a blessing from Jehovah our creator and what better way to honor him than giving our children a name that holds real valuable meaning ❤️🙏🏽

Look up Kyle Walker, Evan Smith, Milton Martinez....many more to name.. Dudes that don't just skate street league and you will see some of the craziest skating you can find.
I've never been a big fan of helmets, but the only 'respect' that matters is whether you respect someone's else choice to wear/do what they want.
Totally, I think if you want to wear a helmet its fully your choice as a person, at the same time you just have to accept that if you’re trying to pursue a career in street skating that you’re making it hard on yourself. its the industry’s choice on who they sponsor and that they’re running a business and “helmet skater kid” rarely (and I mean rarely) falls into their plans. If you’re skating for fun though only, then there’s no issue.

Anyone with such a high consistency in not just minor tricks, but really difficult tricks deserves respect. Nyjah is one of the greatest to ever skateboard and pave the way for other skaters to follow. I love watching him skate!

Skateboarding entering the olympics was mandatory at this point where these guys and kids have taken it is levels above what I thought it would ever be back in the 99/00

He tick tacked a lot more when he was younger... actually that's the one thing I noticed from watching this...there is a certain point where he stopped doing it, and it's more recent. He loosened his trucks a little bit but it made a difference on landings, I can tell he still rides fairly tight...as do I, so I can tell...but not as tight as he used to and that's why he tick tacked a lot. But also the reason he built so much precision.

damn yo wtf is wrong with people like his dad. He trains his son like an abused circus animal to fulfill his own failed sports ambitions to perform incredibly dangerous potentially fatal stunts as a 6 year old, then when his son literally becomes the best in the world at it he basically does everything he can to sabotage his potential career and keep him isolated and alone and doesn't let him pursue it. Like hoooooooooooooooooooooooly fak so many levels of cognitive dissonance must be going on
I got a copy of This Is My Element for Christmas as a 9 year old, and seeing his opening part got me hooked on skateboarding immediately. Still one of my favourite parts and videos of all time.

Nyjah during the dread era was a serious inspiration for me growing up, first deck happened to be an element (later stolen at school sadly) we were rocking E’s accels and dunk mids, it’s cool to hear that cutting his hair was a pivotal point in him taking control over his look and skate style just a shame that he lost all his swag when he did chop them lmao
