Fist off, shout out to Neck Face for rocking Mercyful Fate. Andrew Reynolds to me, as a 13 year old in 2002 was my absolute idol. I had the skin tight black jeans, the Reynolds 2 Emerica in Mint Green, the long sleeve button up white dress shirt, the long jet black dyed hair, the whole 9 yards. He embodied what the culture of skateboarding was for me. I met Andrew Reynolds first at Skatelab (RIP) for a demo in 2002, coolest guy ever and nice and just the star of the show. Then I went a few days later to a signing at Pharmacy skate shop and he mentioned something like "hey you were at Skate Lab, how are you?" type thing which meant a lot. He then asked something around the lines of "what are you skating on right now?" and I had mentioned that my board had gotten stolen a few days prior. He said "what? no way?" He called over someone who worked at Pharmacy and then pointed to his signature baker deck on the wall and then handed me the deck and said "this is for you".. This guy was my end all be all hero giving me a skateboard. About an hour later I was behind the shop with some friends just recording on a camera I had gotten for Christmas and he came out just kind of messing around smoking a cigarette and I had asked if I was allowed to just record the interaction and ask some random questions, he graciously allowed and was full blown honest and true. You have to understand how much I was on cloud 9.. this guy was my absolute hero and I has pretty much a personal recording of this guy who to me was larger than life just talking into my camera and being himself. I will never ever forget that as long as I live, I'm 32 now.. and to this day, even though I don't skate or am not as privy to the skate industry anymore, If you told me I had the chance to sit down and get to hang out with Andrew Reynolds?.. I would jump at that in a HEARTBEAT. Thanks for the memories my friend.

I just bought a used board and now am going out with my 2 little kids while they're on bikes. I so badly want to do what I used to do. But it's like I only have a little bit of ability now. I guess I need to get the board to where it's like a part of me again. It's so fun right now though! Im new to skating an i’m trying to find my way in life and skateboarding. I didn’t know much about Andrew other than his relation to Baker, after watching this i have a new person i look up to. The story of his amazing skating, how he overcame his problems, and ultimately turned his life around was truly inspiring.

Epicly Later'd is the best thing Vice has done! Blacking out from alcohol is the worst. Im very happy I was always around trustworthy ppl when I did overindulge in liquor at a younger age. For me, the anxiety Id get at a bar or a house party never helped that issue and the anxiety mixed with lots of drinks never ends well for anyone. Luckily I was never mean. Just an idiot lol

Damn those two kids. She's so into it and sounds sweet and the part where the little guy jokes around with Andrew is just so damn wholesome. Embrace the young minds, you can learn from them too, its fantastic. Also skateboarding really is something you need to get on as young as possible like walking and riding a bike. It makes the world of a difference and whoever is around you at that time sets you up for something good, or being stupid and drugged/boozed up for no reason. Gatekeeping and psychos is something i could never handle and copped out of it young. With these guys it would have been such a privilege to be around in an era of skateparks and smartphones and its awesome to see them wearing some protection. How Andrews knees and body held up defies nature, wtf. Not many people would still be walking from those impacts

Talented people should definitely help cultivate the next generation. I wish Rodney Mullen would do the same thing as far as passing on his knowledge of flatland. So many of the tricks he's done haven't been done in decades because they're too hard to replicate without instruction (i.e his impossible late varial kickflip on flat from questionable). He did have a part to play in helping out the guys on plan B back in the early 90s which most people would agree that that's when modern street skateboarding was born but I think every since his A-team project failed in the early 2000's, he gave up on trying to pass on his knowledge.

One hour of his peers and contemporaries praising Andrew for being a great man. When it comes to being a father, a business owner, a mentor, a friend and doing what it takes to get and stay sober. Stepping up and trying his best to do the right thing and not taking the path of least resistance.
And the video is prefaced with VICE warning about disturbing scenes.
VICE was great. It's such a shame the virus hires unleashed on the company that has rotted them into the antithesis of what they set out to be and into what is most of the rest of today's media. It is a great time for alternative media to step up and fill the void. Just like the same kind of pure minds that started VICE.

I'm almost 35 and over the last few years have fallen out of love with skateboarding(and life, I used to tell people if I quit skating I basically quit life). I just stopped getting enjoyment out of it and went less and less. Recently I was trying to skate more and was getting back into it but winter is basically here and it's cold out and I've been working 60 hour weeks these last few weeks. This video made me want to find the passion for skating again and try to have some fun. Would love a nice local indoor park for when it starts snowing; used to go shovel the park and skate the local park as best I could, not sure I'll have the energy for that this winter or not.

I got to meet Reynolds in Pittsburgh, PA on the Stay Flared tour. This was the man solely responsible for my love of skateboarding from 4 years old when Tony Hawk Pro Skater came out.. the main I modeled my entire life after.. and I always heard the saying, “Don’t meet your heroes.” After the demo, the pros hung out, skated and met some people. But, Reynolds disappeared. I got to meet Jerry Hsu, Leo Romero, Riley Hawk, Figgy, Brian Herman and I even got to meet Heath Kirchart. They all fucking killed it during the demo. I had front row to the whole thing. Jerry Hsu and Leo Romero sat at my feet to take a break for about ten minutes. Reynolds killed the demo as well but he’s the only one that disappeared after the demo. Kirchart even stuck around and met fans. So I was pretty bummed out even though I got to meet some of my other favorite skaters. But I really wanted to meet Reynolds and thank him for being a role model to me not just in skating, but life as well. So as we were leaving the park, I catch a glimpse at this dude sitting under a pavilion by himself about 100 yards away from the park with his back turned towards everyone and it was near the van they pulled up in. My brother jokingly said, “Look. There’s Reynolds.” and laughed. But I stopped immediately and looked and sure enough, there was Reynolds sitting by himself at a table under a pavilion. This was my only chance. I knew he didn’t want to get swarmed by fans so I politely walked up to the side of the table and said, “Hey man. I apologize, I know you are probably trying to avoid the fan interactions by sitting over here but I drove 2 hours away to come here and I’d kick myself in the balls if I didn’t come up here and just tell you how much you changed my life. I got into skating because of you, admired all your parts and tried so hard to emulate you on a board. You are my childhood hero man. Part of the reason I’m sober today is because of you and your openness with addiction and whatnot. So I wanted to thank you. Thank you for coming out and performing here and thank you for taking 30 seconds to tell my story.” he stood up from the table and smiled and thanked me for sharing my story with him. He said he wasn’t actively trying to avoid fans but instead wanted to give everyone else the spotlight because he’s already been there and done it for years. He then asked me a few questions about my sobriety and how long I’ve been skating, etc. He sat and talked with me for about 15 minutes and then offered to sign something, take a photo, etc. He shook my hand and I thanked him for his time and he looked at me and said, “No. Thank you. It was a pleasure.” And that interaction is the exact reason why Reynolds will always be at the top of my list. He didn’t have to be nice. He could’ve shooed me away. He could’ve been like Brian Herman and cussed and swore the fans out. But he didn’t. He took the time out of his day to hear my story and thank me. He’s forever a class act.

He wanted to live like they live in California and once he was there that's exactly what he did. During The End he even looks a lot like Penny when it comes to trick selection, style and the way he would dress. He's comparing his role models to the ones Stella has,and her's are a lot more clean and don't have drinking and drugs in their lives.
