  • Hi all,
This video tool me a while to make (2 days) I went through all the pain of various methods as how to get the rear shock off, so that you don't have to!!!Some folks take the wheel off, some don't!
It's a bit long, but like me, you may be bit nervous at doing it, so i thought i would cram as much information as possible. Due to where i live the bike doesn't go off road and stays on the black stuff. Good luck and i hope it helps.
As always check torques etc before riding the machine !
My Africa Twin loaded is a bit bouncy , especially with a pillion, hence the upgrade of the rear shock. Initial ride, subject to review video, shows that the bike doesn't squat down on acceleration and is definitely firmer and appears a worth while £75 upgrade. Oh i can still touch the floor , both feet, with the new spring fitted(5'9")

Good informative video, great bike! Recently bought the same year with the DCT gearbox and was nervous at first but what an amazing machine. I've not ridden a road bike for nearly 10 years now and so glad to be back on the road and definitely made the right decision with the Africa Twin. Keep up the good videos!!

Just been for a ride on it having set the suspension up, rebound , compression and all that rocket science stuff! Rides extremely well and a definite thumbs up and £75 well spent !

@@gsd32i good effort. I'm waiting for a PC-8 with Relay Kit to arrive so i can start to add stuff to the bike safely and not drain the battery, exciting times.

Very good instruction/ thank you mate. Cheers, Gary from Idaho. I have your exact bike & will be doing this job soon. Can’t wait to get the full range of the Suspension instead of having a pre-load wound up all the time to carry load.

I'm from New Jersey and I have the same bike too. Have you already updated the rear spring? Where did you get it? thanks

I sent EPM Performance an email asking what weight writer a particular spring was designed for. They replied "They work best for riders 160-240 lbs". Sorry but if I'm paying $139 for one spring it better specific for the weight of rider!

You don't have to remove the wheel or the computer to get the shock out at all I swapped it also with hyper pro complete shock but did not have to remove the wheel.

Thanks mate! Getting ready to do a new spring on a 2021 ATAS and this was good prep. Have used ratchet straps in the past, but sprung for a spring compressor this go round. What spring rate did you go with? Factory was either 95 N/mm or 105 N/mm optional. I have a hack rig attached, so am going with a 120 N/mm spring that should work for the total weight on the rear wheel with rider+ gear+ hack rig.

I went for the..... SP-HO10-SSB032-B. Raised ride height by 20mm and made a ton of difference . Bike now sold as have a BMW GS, only wish I could have kept both bikes!

Nice job, thanks for all information. What do you think after upgrading springs? Does it worth? How is the stability after that and what do you feel about it? I am in the middle of doing that investment.

Hi . Definitely worth doing it , especially if you have a pillion and/or luggage . It will raise the ride height… but a worthwhile upgrade 👍

@@gsd32i thank you, tricky question: do I need to upgrade side stand at the same time? Or it is just because of less initial compression on spring?

    • @gsd32i
      @gsd32i  3 роки тому

@@oguzaliekinci hi . Not sure I understand the question , but I have put the Honda OEM centre stand on , which I did before I put the new suspension spring on . There are no problems with the new spring and the centre stand .

@@gsd32i this means it doesn’t effect ground clearance but it effects seat height (only riding position is lifted 20 mm), long in short bike does not squat as much as before with the same load (main reason for upgrading). Thanks for your help, I learned from you a lot. Have a great day 🙏
