- After all the issues we had in our last review (see link below) we were excited to finally get this gun back from Springfield to do an update video. Unfortunately Springfield decided to make some bold claims, first being that there is nothing wrong with our gun and that it was the ammo we were using that was causing the problems, with that said, they decided to keep our 20 rd mags(which is what we thought was causing the problem) and replace them with x2 17rd mags. The gun runs fine now, even with the Pistol-Pete ammo that they claimed would not work in their gun, but sadly we could not test if the 20rd mags worked or not.
We will provide more info if Springfield updates us.

As a rookie in the gun buying market this is the best purchase I made runs flawless and I followed the directions to properly add the extension to my magazine

I have two echelons and if you install the extension correctly you’ll have zero issues also I’ve never had a jam.
I agree. I abuse the hell out my Echelon and have 3x17 rd. and 3x20 rd. mags. Not one problem ..... EVER !!!!!! Topped with a 508T, an Olight Baldr Pro R and heavy recoil rod from Apex. It's a damn BEAST !!!!! 🙂

Did they install the baseplates the wrong way or was it the factory ? These guys know guns a little bit bout firearms , and you would think they would’ve noticed how loose those baseplates were , and that was not right .
@@kcMan7938 they were installed wrong by the users, the firearm doesn’t really come with instructions to install the mag extension. Theres a metal plate that goes on the base of the mag spring and if not properly attached it will cause the extension not to seat properly. If installed correctly, it functions flawlessly.

With ammo being as cheap as it is from reputable manufacturers why are we testing with no name, shit ammo? Mag Tech, Blazer, Fiocchi, Federal.. stick with them.

The plate popping off is the rapid unload function.
all that for a 2 second fix of the 20rd mag baseplate lol. Yea it should have came correct from the factory, all it was is that the metal locking tab on the extension wasnt fully seated

Yes, many of these left the factory with the magazine floor plate installed incorrectly. They are now being shipped with the plate installed in the correct orientation. I own two of the 20 round mags with the plates installed correctly and have not had a single issue with them after close to 2,000 rounds. This gun is the culmination of many years of research and testing. It is about as perfect a "go to war" gun as there is if you properly use it and train with it. I think you will see many agencies using this gun soon for two reasons. First, it's not a P320 that many departments are now afraid to issue. Second, the modularity of this gun makes an armorers job easy and ultimately saves money over buying different size pistols. As soon as Springfield releases a compact version frame and slide it will be selling like hotcakes and I will be first in line to buy them.
I can't lie it did happen to me. I had to go on youtube to fix it. I have run rounds and it's been working fine.

I have 10 extra 20rd mags for mine, so 12 total, not a single problem with any of them, including the base plates I installed, properly of course.

@@RallyTacticalits kinda embarrassing that a youtuber with “gun experience” cant figure the solution out. My friend got an echelon the first week it was available. His had the base plate installed wrong. Did some googling and found out it was wrongfully installed.
Made the corrections and never had any issues since.
This is how you lose subscribers or you never get them in the first place. Requested youtube to not recommend vids from you.

How about a full disassembly of the firearm. Let's see how long it takes to completely break down this pistol. Including the COG.

No problems here. Over a thousand rounds and still looks like new also no problems with the Springfield saint as well, if you take care of them they'll take care of you 😉
I’ve watched a few times and it appears from the recap that you -only- had trouble using the 20 rounder, is that correct? I have had zero magazine issues in about 2800 rounds, however, I did have 2x double feed condition; a failure to extract, and subsequent chambering. One of them was a 115 grain, another was a 147, both were within 1500 rounds and only one of them was in the 20 rounder. Sent to S/A they ran 100 rounds through it, no malfunctions. That 20 round mag has had 2x failure to lock back the slide as well.
I believe they are using the same 17 round spring in the 20 round extended mag, which is not ideal.
BTW, I also had the optics plate come loose and more than once.
Honestly, I think it very well could be ammunition related. It doesn’t take a lot in for the tolerances to be bad on a round and create a malfunction and I’ve definitely had defective rounds both from major new ammunition makers and reloads. With reloads, the case is always a variable. It may be a minor variable or major. It could be once fired brass, or it could be fired and reloaded more than a dozen times. The case mouth could be out of spec, the primer not seated fully, powder charge variance could have gone out of spec - all of these things and much more can happen during ammunition production.
Same as yours, I’ve gone through as many rounds after getting the Echelon back and it’s not malfunctioned. At least they cleaned your Echelon !
Thanks for the feedback. We actually decided to move forward with reviews with pistol Pete AND new ammo as well. Think it will add value and show people if they have options or not. In addition like you said issues were really all fixed one Springfield took a look at it.
And just like that, after 4,780 rounds, I reloaded the 20 rounder and it spontaneously disassembled, spitting all 20 rounds out the bottom
I got new replacements, which look improved. No other malfunctions.
Josh. Just out of curiosity. Are you located in Florida? If you look at my name, did I buy 2 holsters from you guys the last time I was there?
Mine is still going just fine, even with the 20 rounders. So I trust this over something that has been known to go off in a holster.

This is literally the first "bad" review ive seen of this firearm, hes got great grip and recoil management, but the magazines have been an issue for some... havent seen it in mine. If youve installed the extension wrong, you will have mag issues.
Not true. You just seen five videos of different youtubers having the same issue and you still don’t believe Springfield or HS Product is at fault? Like any fault??
@@HighStimuli I've seen almost 9 bad reviews on it. 3 of them were after the so called correct installation.
They corrected the design and sent us some new 20rd mags. So far so good 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the research - So echelon with the 17 round mags per se.... only. And 124 grain ammo only.
I like the Cap lol, but I didn't have any issues with any ammo it eats all 115 and 124 reload factory. Maybe some of them are just bad due to QC. shot out Thank you for the video.

That’s messed up they should’ve sent you another 20 round magazine. I love mine zero malfunctions after 500-600 rounds , but noticed that their 20 round magazines have been out of stock since they got released and I’m wondering if there’s a fix that they’re doing and that is why 20 round magazines can’t be found.
They finally reached out. Magazine design had to be upgraded and they’re sending us two 20rd mags 🤙 glad they got it fixed
It’s bad on Springfield for letting their mags go out improperly installed. That being said it’s been covered pretty thoroughly how to install the 20rd base properly. Again , we shouldn’t have to. But once installed correctly it’s runs flawlessly. Took a two day course had zero issues , mag or gun related. ✌🏻

Point is our mags were installed correctly, everyone wants to quickly assume we just dont know what we are talking about, but the reality is, we've built plenty of guns from the ground up and have dealt with all kinds of different mags, it was clear what the issue was right from the beginning, and Springfield just verified it but updating the design on their 20rd base plates.

I haven’t bought a Springfield since I had nothing but issues with my prodigy. They also had more magazine issues with those pistols. That gun would not run any ammo. 2 warranty repairs later I still had issues so I sold it.
I’m got lucky then,as I have over 2500 rounds and zero malfunctions. No issues with the magazine as of yet.
If the 20 round mag has the baseplate installed wrong, it will perform just like the issues you experienced. I can replicate it every time by putting it on incorrectly. No fault of the gun. I shoot mine in IDPA competition since new and right out of the box with my 147g reloads making 133000 PF. I have yet to experience a single issue. Between practice sessions and matches Ive put 2000+ rounds through it.
If it was just improper installation, why did Springfield change the design of the magazines without telling anyone?
@@bertgardner6570 You will have to ask SA that... All I can vouch for is mine runs like a precision sewing machine. Zero issues with close to 4000 rounds through it now. Zero mag issues as well.

There's definitely something up with the 20 round magazines. Just yesterday i had a 20 round magazine fall apart in my pocket and after reassembling the exact same thing happened again today.

@@watchyoutube9553 I was putting it together right. I contacted Springfield and they told me there was an issue with some of the metal baseplates that shipped out. I should be receiving the updated plate today. Hoping this fixes my issue

@@30Cal-Cam Nope. I contacted Springfield and they confirmed the original baseplates were incorrectly designed. They've sent me two replacements and they've both been functioning perfectly. And yes, I compared them to the originals and they are in fact different.

I don't see CZ 20 rounders dumping shit all over the ground. I also don't see Glock 33rd fun sticks dumping rounds.

Use standard 17-round mags. I don't like a pistol that looks like it has a harmonica sticking out the bottom of it. I don't trust those 20-rounders at all.

You shouldn't buy a gun right out of the gate. I'm convinced most manufacturers are doing a large part of their testing on their customers.

I suspect they upgraded the design so that even unskilled kitchen gunsmiths can not assembly them incorrectly.😉
It appears that anyone can get on UA-cam and test firearms without being knowledgeable with the product they are using. Nothing wrong with the 20 round magazines. Just operator error on assembling the magazine. Sorry guys.

Nope, we put around 350 rounds through the gun in our last video, kept swapping back and fourth and the rounds would work fine in our other guns, just not the springfield. The point of the video isnt bad ammo, its bad mags. Get a disingenuous feel from you not saying you're a bad guy but why not mention it's only been issues with the 20rnd mags and not the 17. Also adding in clips from other creators after all had mention the fix. I mean then again that is what got you the most views is this gun alone so maybe trying to push for more views.
The magazine issue is just plain poor QC, and for tools that are literally intended to be used in life and death scenarios, I can't give them a pass on that. Also, in 2023 ammo sensitivity at that level where I have to rely on specific ammo, that's a no-go for me. Any CCW or home defense gun for me needs to be able to run crappy ammo of all common bullet weights in both FMJ and defensive ammo. If it can't do that, it's a range toy for me.

The gun comes with a heavy spring rated for 9mm nato eventually after shooting or leaving the slide locked back for a few days it will begin to run lighter loads with more regular reliability. This is true for other eruo milspec gun such as the apx a1. Click bait or ignorance?
Would you consider a Glock a Euro milspec gun? What about CZ or HK? How come they don't have issues?

Find the video to be somewhat disingenuous. I picked up mine assembled the 20 round mag and it didn’t look right. Did a quick search on the old internet and found that I was installing it wrong. Corrected my mistake and mag doesn’t have any issues. To assume that you are infoulable and that they are hiding something because they kept your mag for further review. I dunno. Just seems like no other firearm has ever had mag issues
