Sootch00, I always enjoy your videos! This new 1911 TRP from SA is a really nice looking gun. What a joy it had to be to get to review this pistol! Thanks so much for the review!
Years ago I was interested in purchasing a TRP but ended up purchasing a Dan Wesson Specialist. I am very glad I went the Specialist.. not that there’s anything wrong with the TRP.
If you don't like the 2 part guide rod, you can replace it with a full length guide rod from Wilson Combat and it works great. You won't have to full with breaking the guide rod down into 2 pieces. The Wilson Combat guide rod is very inexpensive as well.
Or you could get rid of it all together and go with the original John Browning design and put slotted screws back in the grips where you can work on it in the field with your pocket knife, like it was originally designed and never failed.....😮 I have personally never seen so much crap on handguns to make it heavier and useless in my life. I remember back in the 80s we used to have 45 long slides with 4-in laser scopes.... just goes to show you what comes around goes around
@@lynch6642I like the original design also. However I do prefer the commander style hammer over the spur. I can’t stand the beaver tail idk why anyone likes that it’s ugly as sin and makes no sense I’ve never had a gi grip safety fail to engage and not allow me to fire. It looks like a giant fish hook on the rear of the gun and a snag point to me.
@lynch6642 Speaking of the grip screws, Springfield uses hex screws that are quite soft and easily stripped. Another way they cheap it out but sell at a premium. So if that happens, to get it out you will either have to carefully drill it out or destroy the grips. A serious service 1911 will always have slotted screws cause flathead screwdrivers or anything that can be used as one will be more common.
By the way, i can see that in the last years the American citizens had lost faith in the FBI and in other government agencies, i don't blame you, is the thing in Brazil, most of us had lost our faith in our Federal Police. Being very honest, we had lost faith in all the police institutions.
True. FBI is more interested in attacking parents protesting at a school than terrorists coming across the border. USA is on the way out unless things change
Things sure were different in the US in the 90s, like the assault weapons ban of 1994 that lasted 10 years if memory serves. It was after getting into firearms (just pistols initially) and subsequently learning about that ban that caused me to go out and buy an AK a few years ago. @@generallobster
Yes, sadly, it is not just the police institutions that we have lost faith in, but almost all institutions. We can only have faith in God, and maybe that is not such a bad thing.
@@jamesshives5679 sorry man, but for me religion is a waste of time, i think that if God was so powerful he would never allow those bad things that is happening in the entire world right now.
I started questioning Springfield Armory's quality a couple years ago. There was a guy at the gun store that just bought a brand newTRP and the frame was visibly out of spec. It was literally crooked. Springfield basically refused to help him or replace the firearm. Ever since then I've been very wary.
@@mikeyID I had a Loaded A1 model back in 2015. It worked fine, but didn't have a huge round count through it. Replaced it with a Wilson Combat. Even at that price point it still did 1911 shit. Stove pipes and needed extractor tuning. Very accurate pistols though.
@@youvandal411vmI bought a brand new Vickers master class a few months ago and the feed ramp was milled very crooked. It still feeds just fine it just looks like terrible work.
2G’s without an optics cut in 2024 is a tough sale. I heard one of the sales reps from Springfield called this a “working man’s 1911”, at $2000. That’s ridiculous.
I bought a Springfield 1911 2 years ago. It jammed every other round even using different magazines. The magazine that came with it even malfunctioned where the spring got stuck feeding. I sent it back and they corrected it thankfully. Haven't had an issue since.
Tip: When reassembling, clean the guide rod just wipe it down. Use rubbing alcohol to clean and wipe down the threads of the guide rod. Use a Q-tip to wipe the inside threads. It will keep it from backing out from the vibration when shooting. Grease the front part of the guide rod to keep the rod from galling as the spring compresses and expands from shooting.
I just tightened the 2 piece guide rod snugly with a hex wrench. I used to believe in guide rods, but Les Baer doesn't use them. Nighthawk doesn't use them. Ed Brown doesn't use them. Wilson uses some full length guide rods but Bill Wilson actually said that they are unnecessary but he sells 1911s with them as people asks for them so he isn't going to turn away business. And finally, the real FBI 1911, the SA Custom Professional doesn't use them. If you really get problem wirh them backing out, Option 1: toss it out and just use a GI guide rod. Option 2: use a 1 piece full length guide rods which is just a bit shorter than a 2 piece guide rods, so you just depress the front-less spring plug to turn the bushing and disassemble.
Boy, that looks almost identical to my $600 SDS duty. Same hammer, same chf barrel, same trigger, 3 slot pic rail, mecgar mag, with g10 grips. I'm not sure I could pick it out of a pile. Super tight and smooth. Those turks sure know how to do it.
Dude I really do think these 1911s are just a scam at some point a 600 dollar one is just as good as a 1200 one maybe not 3k but I’ve seen no difference
Tisas makes a solid 1911, I enjoy the duty model myself, but no, it’s not close to the same. The operator is much better fit and finished and the performance follows. When you actually hold and fire them back to back you realize just how much better the TRP and really all the Springfields are built.
The FBI uses the SA Custom Professional, a fully hand fitted and hand tuned 1911 that comes out of their true Custom Shop. When the Custom Shop fulfills their annual contract to the FBI, the Shop then sends the rest for the civilian market. The Custom Professional costs about $3,700. The TRP is not completely hand tuned and hand fitted. It is not from their Custom Shop. Some parts are hand fitted, or just touched up a bit, or certain pieces just selected for a better fit. It does not cost $3,700 either. It runs about $1,700. It is a Poors Man's Custom Professional. Sorta of like buying a Tudor wrist watch instead of a Rolex. Nothing wrong with a Tudor either.
I have an actual FBI Professional Operator and I will say with 100% certainty that the TRP is the better gun for the money. That said, mine just has the prestige, the nobility, and the cool factor the TRP will never have. One note, the the FBI spec uses the GI guide rod and plug vs the TRP's full length guide rod. One thing I wish SA would do is use Dawson Precision's Tool-less full length guide rod instead of the screw in version.
So I just picked this gun up and ill be honest......it's definitely not on the same level as my Dan Wesson Specialist. The slide to frame fit is phenomenal.....but that's about where the good ends. The full length guide rod comes loose every 20-30 shots, so I have to keep retightening it between reloads. The safety......is fitted worse than my 700 dollar Garrison, it has a ton of play and over travel. This will probably go back to Springfield sadly. I did a 200 round range session today and a lot of my shots hit high. I was able to get a few good groupings when I really focused. My Dan Wesson Specialist is able to tear out a bulls eye with ease. Not to mention, ive owned the Dan Wesson a little over a year and around 1500 rounds and everything is still solid and tight, including the safety. I would definitely buy a Dan Wesson again before I buy another one of these new TRPs....just my two cents.
The TRP has always been a great firearm, but I think Springfield have missed the bus on this go-round by not offering an optics ready version. They did with the 10mm longslide TRP, why not on the new 45 ?
Not much of an redot guy on a pistol. But I understand many people like them. Bet will see this option down the road. These are great offerings but do they beat out the prior TRP models as they are is yet to be seen. The big change to be is the new commander offerings. As I said in a prior post would love to see those with a steel frame.
Take down demo was an unexpected bonus, thanks. My TRP Tactical Stainless internal markings do not match serial number. However, the markings are the same number which is good. I bought used. The shop did not allow pre-purchase take down but I bought anyways.
Years ago I owned two brand new Springfield 1911s and both of them had soft steel in the slides. The case heads were leaving a matching impression into the breach face. I got rid of both of them. I have no faith in their quality control. Maybe they’re better now, but I was burned twice. I won’t make the same mistake a 3rd time.
Nice review, nicer gun. Anyway, you go at it, in my opinion, a 1911 45acp is the top of the line. Got my first 1911 back when i was about 14 years old, just turned 70 and still have a 1911. FBI dropped 45acp, just shows they've been losing their minds for a long time. Thanks for showing this beautifully done firearm. Dont know that I would go for that color. 👍👍
My beef with Springfield are the firearms made in Croatia. When I hear Springfield I think of WW2 and all the great rifles that are so iconic today. It’s a love/hate relationship 😂😂 nice gun by the way love me a good 1911 is it made in Illinois? Take care brother keep up the great work
I’ve had the TRP and it’s a phenomenal pistol, but it is not the same as the Professional. I sold my TRP and it made me heart sick and a friend that works at Buds gun shop was able to get a Professional for me. I can tell you there is a noticeable difference. The Pro is more accurate and the fit is amazing. The Pro has the Birdsong Black T finish. Slicker than snot on a doorknob. 😂
The TRP looks like a fine 1911 all right. The only thing that really bugs me about it though is that you have to have an Allen wrench in order to field strip it. My current EDC weapon of choice is my Springfield Armory 1911 Ronin chambered in .45ACP. It's a great shooter I can tell you. Anyone wondering about the 1911 then I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to try one out. And any doubts then you can always get one of the rental weapons at most gun shops that have a firing range.
@@markl762I hear that ok. You could always swap out the trigger though for a metal one. It's funny as I never realized that the trigger on my Ronin was a polymer trigger. It's been a great shooter since I bought it though
Started out pretty excited about the TRP until I saw the guide rod. What’s up with that? Makes it impossible for a quick field strop without carrying a wrench. Unless someone makes an aftermarket “typical” guide rod, it’s off my list.
I would jump on the shorter carry model. The shorter carry gun being an TRP is a great idea. But…I won’t buy one because it has an aluminum frame! I just don’t know why there are not more choices when it comes to shorter 1911 guns with steel frames.
Thanks for an excellent review. Ordered my TRP yesterday (coyote brown) and looking forward to putting it through its paces. Your input was very valuable to me and was a deciding factor in choosing it. Thanks again for your video. Marcos in Miami, Florida
I'm glad they offer front checkering and rail on the new TRP, however I wish offer adjustable rear sights like their Operator model, but I understand they are trying to save some money for the consumer.
I have the original version in all black. My only complaint was the two piece guide rod. It kept loosening up so I swapped for a Wilson Combat GI guide rod.
That’s what I’m worrying about! I just ordered this gun today and my heart kinda sank when I saw him pull the hex wrench out to unscrew the guide rod. I thought this came with a GI guide rod. Hopefully it stays snug when I shoot it.
Those front and rear serrations are beastly. Sold mine because my hands bled every time I shot it. Slide felt like it was on roller bearings - amazing smooth. Just wish I had more manly hands to handle the aggressive grip. 😂
Is that full length guide rod going to come loose when shooting?? It’s just screwed in. What’s the point of a full length guide rod where the standard gi does just fine?
Still running my Springfield GI 1911. Bought it used and the previous owner abused it including putting an idiot mark on it from reassembling it. After a little TLC from me, I haven't had any problems. Love the TRP but I don't think I'd spend that much. To each his/her own.
I have obtained all of the original TRPs over the last 20 years. The only one I did not manage to obtain was the long slide 10mm. Those 10mm TRPs disappeared pretty quick . I welcome the return of the TRP. However not sure a big upgrade over the 2021 and before models other than a new FDE finish and new sights. Perhaps we will get the 10mm versions again. To me I never factored the TRP collection as the so called HRT pistol since there are some models sold as those still at a significant higher price . To me the TRP was just a nicely fit production pistol with some more factory TLC. The commander TRP appears interesting but wished it was not a alloy framed offering. Hope they bring out a forged steal framed commander. No problem with a alloy frame from springfield but again the loaded and prior offerings they had were pretty cool. Seeing the Dan Wesson commander out there and a bit cheaper that could feel the niche too.
all the PAID reviewers here are pushing the trp hard...... comical part is these are run of the mill operators with color and front strap checkering . no bull barrels or even the adjustable rear sight. love the clicky title that includes the fbi 1911. ill pass on these. dan wesson for the money is by far better
No matter what, the effectiveness and it''s long life, the 1911A1, marches on, in the polymer generation. Highly skilled operatives, understand the genius of John Moses Browning. This is a great pistol. The only thing I would change, is use the shorter GI guide rod, as JAB intended.
"Highly skilled operatives, understand the genius of John Moses Browning." I also understand the genius of Alexander Graham Bell but I don't still carry around an old 2-piece handset and base telephone in my pocket.
@@papimaximus95 The basic design of the 1911A1, has not changed, but the telephone has. The 1911 pistol was invented at at a time when cars and airplanes had just started. Now we have space vehicles that can land and operate on Mars. Today, in 2024, the 1911 pistol, a one hundred and thirteen year old invention, continues with high sales and use. Last I checked at least twenty-five gun manufacturers, still produce 1911A1 pistols, in the USA, and countries oversees. FACTS always tell the truth.
I kinda think that was @papimaximus95 point @@LoneStarLawman. The 1911 is a relic of the past that's been supplanted by more evolved pistols. True, it's quite functional, but it's an un-evolved relic nonetheless.

Go with the FACTS ..The un-evolved relic obviously still has a place today, among 1911A1 pistol owners, some military and specialized law enforcement. Gee, those pesky FACTS again.
The firing pin spring was also so weak it let the stop drift down and prevented the gun from going into battery. I sold it to a local gun store after explaining the problems. Got most of my money back. Love the 1911 but that gun was pure 💩
@unclegene5372 that's unfortunate, sorry to hear that, mine has over 1100rds through her without fail, been a workhorse for me, which is why I was thinking about getting the TRP... better start save up for a dan wesson I guess
I find it interesting that the trigger is around 3lb since many custom shops wont set a trigger below 3.5 without signing a waver. These TRPs must have had additional work before being sent to reviewers.
From what I’ve read on some forums, the 80% of the parts for the SA-35 (slide, frame, barrel, etc.) are made in Turkey by Tisas. Those parts are then shipped to USA where they are assembled. Allowing Springfield Armory to say “‘Made in the USA”. I would think the same story applies to their 1911’s. While it’s a tad misleading, I don’t have a problem with it whatsoever. It’s how they’re able to offer at reasonable prices.
Collecting these guys you probably remeber the loaded and Mil Specs having Brazil markings on the frames in the 1990s and early 2000s I have no problems with that but you are correct that I bet they were forged somewhere else. The Brazilian markings disappeared when people complained.
So SA copied the Tisas RAIDER which is a copy of the Colt M45 service pistol. The Tisas RAIDER is a sub $1k pistol with numerous enhancements compared to standard 1911 pistols. If you haven't yet, you should compare the Raider to this SA version.
@@northernninety7 My brother is a huge Kimber guy. There's a lot of nice 1911 brands out there but I've just always liked the Springfield for some reason.
Looks can be deceiving. I don't own this pistol, but in general 1911's in 45 acp are notorious for being unreliable with hollow point ammunition. They have thin feed ramps and that can catch certain hollow point bullets as they feed causing a jam. The 2011 variants with 9mm are much better and hold twice the capacity. Beautiful pistol regardless!
@@Uberragen21OLD 1911s have been notorious for not feeding hollowpoints. Newer made 1911s have corrected the feed ramp angle and we have a lot better magazines. Things are different now. My Springfield loaded series .45 has been completely reliable with hollowpoints and lswc ammunition. I edc the 1911 I build, and same thing, reliable. Properly built, they will run no problem. Cheap out on a 1911 or get a Kimber, you ask for problems.
@@4mrholsterco981 I use Chip Mccormic 8 rounders, But occasionally a high end 1911, with tight tolerances, will have FTF and or FTE problems, as some of you know, tolerances can be stacked to cause a problem if they are not in the gun, that they were adjusted for, where as the sloppy GI guns, were sloppy enough that any part would work in any gun, Like Glocks. If I were stuck with one gun, I would take a Glock over a TRP, if I could have as many as I chose, I would have one of each.
Not giving them $2k for MIM internals, no optics cut, that stupid 2 piece guide rod, and ceracoat. I would like to see the U notch sights. The TRP is the cheaper version of the Professional model which was the FBI gun.

Wow! That 1911 looks nice.
Another solid review by Sootch00!
Oh yea so solid bro😂
They sent him the gun that shit don’t count
I really like the serrations on the top of the slide. That looks great.
Sweet looking Springfield armory trp 1911 thanks for sharing sootch00
You got a lovely singing voice, too!!👍🏻
I’ve had the TRP and it’s a phenomenal pistol, but it is not the same as the Professional. 😂
I've had it both ways, I see alot of outstanding officers out there. I feel for them, there getting from both like we are.
I want to get the Ronin, but I don’t like the idea that it’s a polymer trigger.
@@markl762I hear that ok. You could always swap out the trigger though for a metal one. It's funny as I never realized that the trigger on my Ronin was a polymer trigger. It's been a great shooter since I bought it though
@@brianfalls5038 well, if you were to swap it out would the 3 pound trigger pull remain or would it be a different trigger weight?
@markl762 good question. Honestly, I would think the pull weight would be the same but I don't know for sure
What do you think about Cabot Guns commander with full cycle slide feature? Why doesn't Springfield put that feature into new commanders.
I have owned a TRP since they came out. I have fired many pistols in my life and have never fired a more accurate pistol. My favorite pistol ever!
Man those grips are stellar
Nice review, Sootch! Good looking pistol!
Great review. I purchased the black version of the TRP 2 yrs ago. Difficult to find. Heavy and solid. Fun to shoot and simpler to field strip
Me too, I am not sure the new classic beats out the old classic you mention.
Thank you, a very good presentation, easy to follow
Looks really well fit. No gap in the beavertail to frame fit.
Replaced the FLGR with a Wilson Combat GI guide rod and a 10-8 reverse spring plug. No more wrenches or paper clips to field strip!
I enjoy all my 1911's an that TRP is a beautiful piece of work to bad I'm now on a limited budget
"If it's effective for the FBI it would be effective for home defense" is an interesting grouping of words
Not unlike a certain fictional gun store owner told a certain fictional cybernetic organism; "any of these would be suitable for home defense."
Love the new video style, background is great!
Do you like GI guide rods are full length or does it matter I don't like two peace full length guide rods
Gorgeous pistol, great review!
@@MarcoFromTropoja just swap it out for a GI guide rod. Cheap and not permanent
@@mozzberg590 Yea I will probably order a nighthawk or wilson GI plug and guide rod.
@@MarcoFromTropoja I went with Wilson Combat, but any one from a legit company will suffice.
I have a TRP five years or so now, maybe the updated it a little ? I swapped to a gi guidrod
Sorry I’m old school,l prefer black cerakote or blue, other than that it’s a beautiful weapon.
"Highly skilled operatives, understand the genius of John Moses Browning."
I also understand the genius of Alexander Graham Bell but I don't still carry around an old 2-piece handset and base telephone in my pocket.
@@zanelittlegray Obviously, many 1911A1 owners, and those specialists that use, and trust to save people's lives everyday with the 1911A1 disagree. Go with the FACTS ..The un-evolved relic obviously still has a place today, among 1911A1 pistol owners, some military and specialized law enforcement. Gee, those pesky FACTS again.
Great 1911. Congrats from Brazil.
Nobody else forges their own frame either. Most top tier gunsmiths will work on a Springfield, so the base is great.
That literally shoots like a 9mm...
Springfield is at it again!
I have a previous model TRP in 10mm. I love it.
I had a “loaded” 1911 from Springfield. It had that screw in guide rod. Sadly it would unscrew during firing and fly downrange.
I switched mine to GIGR
The firing pin spring was also so weak it let the stop drift down and prevented the gun from going into battery. I sold it to a local gun store after explaining the problems. Got most of my money back. Love the 1911 but that gun was pure 💩
@unclegene5372 that's unfortunate, sorry to hear that, mine has over 1100rds through her without fail, been a workhorse for me, which is why I was thinking about getting the TRP... better start save up for a dan wesson I guess
@@milesmanges well I broke even on the sale so it’s ok just kinda shocked at the lack of attention to detail.
Do you think there is a big difference between the springfeild Emissary. 45 and the trp .45?
Honestly is a beautiful piece and just for collection, nice color ,amazing and like always Springfield company ,that's great 👍👍👍👌
I bet any amount of money sootch pulled a futuresight and one day the hostage rescue team will in fact be called HOSCUE officially.
i could be wrong but were those rounds key holing (tumbling) on paper ??
1911's are like old muscle cars. cool AF.
Well there goes my bonus check.
It's just a standard 1911 man haha.. there's nothing unique about it
Looks like a near-perfect melding of classic and modern gun design. 1911s are so distinct from all other pistols.
20:45 so when's the album coming out?
Nice job, beautiful long slide you have there..
Thanks for posting.
I'm amazed, I am on the Springfield mailing list and I am finding out about this wonder firearm from you first!
Disassemble left to right soldier!!!
Just kidding., you did a splendid job! So much so I’m already signing up for the overtime! Great video!!!
Nice, but it will not supplant my Sig Scorpion nor my Tisas Raider 😊
Um can we get more singing? lol I have the Long Beach Operator and it looks exactly the same except black.... be interesting to compare the triggers.
Springfield certainly has a stable of guntubers at their beck and call. Iv'e watched you since the early days, this is below you.
So SA copied the Tisas RAIDER which is a copy of the Colt M45 service pistol.
The Tisas RAIDER is a sub $1k pistol with numerous enhancements compared to standard 1911 pistols.
If you haven't yet, you should compare the Raider to this SA version.
Nice 1911, would like to see durability testing! MSRP $1,999
10-8 performance just done a reliability test.
10-8 had a great video for that
Nice pistol. I have always thought Springfield makes the best 1911.
As long as you ignore Dan Wesson, Wilson Combat, Les Baer, Ed Brown etc.
@@northernninety7 My brother is a huge Kimber guy. There's a lot of nice 1911 brands out there but I've just always liked the Springfield for some reason.
I heard that 1991 made by Kimber are better.
@@northernninety7and ignore the $4000 and up price tags 😂
@@northernninety7what do you mean Dan Wesson? SA and Dan Wesson are around the 2G or under 1911s al those others start at 3Gs
I'd love to see a series on junk guns such as the Jennings J-22
Optics ready and High Capacity from the Prodigy would be great upgrades to the TRP
My Remington Rand 1911a1 works fine for my carry without all the Fancies this pistol has.
I want one of these SO BAD!!!! I was looking at the Loaded model but I like this one better :)
If you get a chance for a contour carry review that would be a great compliment to this. Great review.
Beautiful gun!
Looks like a reliable pistol ❤❤❤
Great pistol! I have a professional with the light rail and it’s my baby wouldn’t mind getting one of these but who knows if we can get on in CA!
In Ca you modify a Loaded or TRP.
Beautiful gun.
That sure is a beauty 👍
$2k from Springfield! Might as well get a Dan Wesson DWX. Same price.
Not giving them $2k for MIM internals, no optics cut, that stupid 2 piece guide rod, and ceracoat. I would like to see the U notch sights. The TRP is the cheaper version of the Professional model which was the FBI gun.
if it was the atf 1911 it would be a machine screw and a legal brief of why that constitutes a firearm.
